Pharmaceutical giant Gsk is going to dramatic lengths to get consumers thinking about the challenges of Meningitis B.
Rather than pepper Lifetime’s TV schedule with traditional ads about the disease, Gsk has commissioned a short film on the subject, in which actor Soleil Moon Frye talks to parents and experts. Her efforts will show up in a three-minute vignette that appears during certain Lifetime movies; a 17-minute film made available via a bespoke digital site; and in “snackable” lengths via social and other venues. Melissa Joan Hart, who was, like Frye, a popular child actor and is a regular in Lifetime’s movies, will also appear in the vignettes, which will appear on digital outlets first and then on the cable network starting June 25.
“This isn’t a manufactured moment,” says Maura O’Donovan, vice president of ad sales partnerships at A+E Networks, in an interview. “It really is something that is authentic.

For those who were not cognizant throughout the 1980s, it's probably difficult to believe there was a time when Robin Williams was considered a risky box office bet. Though his first time out as a leading man, in Robert Altman's "Popeye," was a hit, that film's success was largely ascribed to the popularity of the cartoon character. He enjoyed two moderate successes after the cancellation of "Mork & Mindy" ("The World According to Garp" and "Moscow on the Hudson"), but neither film fully showcased his head-spinning comedic stream-of-consciousness. In 1986, he was strangely miscast in the Ron Shelton-scripted underdog yarn "The Best of Times," and undermined by a relentlessly unfunny screenplay in Harold Ramis' "Club Paradise."
The back-to-back failure of those two films left studios weary of Williams' big-screen appeal. The industry's conventional wisdom held that his genius was limited to the stand-up stage and guest appearances on late-night talk shows.

Running traditional ads on streaming services like Disney+, Netflix and Amazon can be difficult. Some advertisers may choose a different route by creating some of the programming those broadband services use to get people to subscribe in the first place.
A new study from Interpublic Group’s Magna media-research unit and Amazon Ads found that consumers don’t seem overly concerned whether a TV show they watch is created by an advertiser or a more traditional production studio, so long as the content is entertaining. When asked why they chose to watch brand-funded entertainment, 59 of respondents said they found the show “fun to watch” while 45 “enjoyed the content” and 34 “‘earned something new.”
“It’s just like any other content,” says Kara Manatt, executive vice president of intelligence solutions at Magna, in an interview. “People watch it when it’s entertaining, and if it’s not entertaining, they won’t watch it.

While A+E’s History Channel sets out to tell the story of Abraham Lincoln in a documentary over three nights it will also tell the stories of formerly enslaved people who were also an important part of that era in a mini-series backed by one of its advertisers.
Ancestry is sponsoring a three-part miniseries that will accompany the Lincoln work, which debuts February 20, the latest in A+E’s efforts to craft bespoke programming segments that burnish ad messages while at the same time keeping viewers tuned to the programing for which they originally came.
“To me, this is not a commercial break, this is not a ‘brought to you by,’” says David DeSocio, executive vice president of ad sales marketing and partnerships at A+E Networks, in a recent interview. “It’s a continuation of the story, but on a very personal level.”

Lifetime is trying to turn a commercial break into a holiday tradition.
Last year, the A+E Networks-backed cable outlet showcased a 15 minute “mini-movie” that starred actor Mario Lopez as KFC scion Col. Harland Sanders. The steamy short poked fun at the network’s famous soapy dramas. At 8 p.m. Friday, Lifetime will bring out a new short film, one that is devoted to showcasing Procter & Gamble’s Olay. “A Merry & Bright Makeover” features Monique Coleman, who has starred in Disney’s “High School Musical” and is slated to appear during the premiere of Lifetime’s “A Christmas Dance Reunion.”
“You won’t find a more engaged audience than Lifetime viewers hunkering down for ‘It’s A Wonderful Lifetime’ holiday movies, and we leverage that passion to the advantage of our partners,” said David DeSocio, executive vice president of ad sales and partnership marketing for A+E Networks, in a prepared statement.

Television commercials have long been one of the media industry’s surest bets — so much so that advertisers around the world dumped a whopping $149 billion on them in 2020, according to estimates from Magna, the large media-buying firm. But Pepsi recently decided to take a gamble on something else.
On Valentine’s Day, the soda giant unveiled a three-story replica of a Las Vegas jackpot machine, the centerpiece of a new game show it’s running with the Fox broadcast network. “Cherries Wild” features Jason Biggs as host, lots of trivia and a Pepsi Wild Moment that lets people at home play along for prizes. The whole show is done in Pepsi colors, says Todd Kaplan, vice president of marketing, and aims to play up Pepsi Wild Cherry, a line extension the company believes has room to grow. No other soda will be allowed to advertise during the show.

Pepsi won’t sit out the Super Bowl, but some of its commercials will.
The beverage giant, one of the biggest and most reliable sponsors of the annual football extravaganza, is benching traditional Super Bowl ads for its flagship soda. Instead, says Todd Kaplan, Pepsi’s vice president of marketing, “we are going to double down on our existing 12 minutes in the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show in the middle of the Super Bowl, and we are going to build it out like we have never built it out before.”
The halftime show will star The Weeknd, and Pepsi on Saturday will launch a new campaign to call attention to the performance – the first time the musician at the center of the event has taken part in a Pepsi ad campaign in advance of the effort. Why did the chicken cross the road? To see Mario Lopez act as Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Colonel Sanders on Lifetime, of course.
On Monday, Lifetime turned heads when it announced an unusual casting for an even odder title. The network shared a poster on Twitter promoting its new “original mini-movie,” A Recipe For Seduction. The attached image sees the the Saved by The Bell star as a ripped version of the iconic fast food personality.
“Mark your calendars because Lifetime and @KFC have partnered for a Lifetime Original Mini-Movie you don’t want to miss,” the tweet read.
Set to premiere on Lifetime on Sunday at 12 p.m., A Recipe For Seduction takes the television commercial to a new level. The Lifetime original mini-movie follows a young heiress as she struggles to pick between a rich suitor selected by her mother and the new house chef, Harland Sanders who...

Colonel Harland Sanders has for decades captured the fancy of the American public, usually over the course of dozens of 30-second commercials for KFC that break into TV programs. On Sunday, he won’t have to interrupt any longer.
He’s getting his own show.
Mario Lopez will star as the nation’s best-known fried-chicken spokesman in a steamy Lifetime “mini-movie” that hinges less on the chain’s “secret recipe” of 11 herbs and spices and more on dysfunctional family dynamics and forbidden love. And while the Lifetime program, “A Recipe for Seduction,” has all the hallmarks of one of the A+E-owned cable outlet’s high-drama potboilers, it is in essence a 15-minute commercial for the Yum Brands restaurant.
Most advertisers hope their commercials will spur consumers to buy their products after they see the spots. But KFC will use promotions for “Seduction,” which airs at noon on December 13, to order lunch.

In his classic role as George Costanza on Seinfeld, actor Jason Alexander had to portray a man who was a bit chicken. Now, he’s taken that to heart in his new role as a spokesman for KFC.
Alexander has become the latest celebrity to don the white suit and appear as KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders in the chain’s advertisements.
The Louisville-based fried chicken chain enlisted Alexander to tout its $20 Fill Ups. This is the second go-round with KFC for Alexander, who also did an ad series in 2002 for the company.
KFC’s advertising with Alexander started running on Monday. “As the son of two working parents, there were plenty of dinner times when a bucket of chicken and all the fixins saved the day,” Alexander said in a KFC release. “It’s been fun to combine my personal love for KFC with my sitcom experience into a...

It seems super random for a collaboration like this to happen, but those who have been following wrestling for the past year and a half are almost completely unsurprised by this news. Those who haven't been following wrestling...just watch this:
One would think wrestling fans would get furious at this bit of tomfoolery in their sports entertainment, but the ads seem to be universally loved by the WWE universe. It is rapidly approaching a century since Colonel Harland Sanders founded Kentucky Fried Chicken way back in 1930, and the brand has definitely evolved since its inception. One thing that has remained constant with the KFC brand is the image of Col. Sanders. After the death of the Col. To this point, that strategy has worked out extremely well. There have been some notable actors

DC has done a bunch of weird stuff in the past. I mean, I don't blame them. Marvel has done weird stuff too. I remember a comic from my youth where Spider-Man, PowerMan and Storm fought an Allergy Monster. Yeah. So, let me tell you how exciting it is to know now that Colonel Sanders has a place in the DC Universe.
At Comic Con, a new comic of the Colonel and his battles was released. Sanders teams up with the Green Lantern Corp this time to send the chicken zinger everywhere in the universe. This of course is slowed down by a longtime enemy of the Green Lantern Corp, Larfleeze, sole member of the Orange Lantern Corp. He wants all the chicken zingers to himself. It's up to Green Lantern and Colonel Sanders to stop him.
This is just one of many weird things KFC has done as of late.

Rob Riggle I can see as Colonel Sanders. In fact I think Riggle was doing a great job. But Rob Lowe? It just seems really foreign to me. I understand that Lowe’s taken a much more comedic approach to his acting over the past 5 years but something doesn’t feel right about this photo. And don’t get me wrong. I couldn’t care less about PETA and their reactions to this ad, even though I’ll share them anyway. “Rob Lowe just sold his soul to hawk the rotting carcasses of small, tortured birds. He’s lost all his animal-friendly fans, who are

Rob Lowe dressed up like Colonel Sanders today, and that just makes us miss “The Grinder” even more.
The Emmy-nominated actor is the latest star to appear as the KFC founder in a series of ads, this time donning a space suit with a trompe l’oiel design to mimic the Sanders’ signature white suit and string tie. It’s a bizarre but not entirely un-funny ad that embraces the over-the-top aspect of the announcement that Colonel Harland Sanders (Lowe) want to blast KFC’s newest Zinger sandwich into space.

“The time has come to explore beyond our known horizons, to push KFC’s spicy crispy chicken to new heights,” he says in a mock press conference in the ad seen below. The short video also concludes with the somewhat disturbing and grammatically incorrect line, “We lick our fingers good!

Apparently Rob Lowe’s plate hasn’t been quite full enough lately, because he’s just plopped a piping-hot load of KFC onto it. “West Wing” alum Lowe made his debut as KFC’s latest Colonel Sanders on Friday, donning the white wig and mustache to plug the fast-food chain’s Zinger sandwich. In the ad, Lowe gets in a few zingers himself, striking a very presidential pose at a podium and promising to “push KFC’s spicy chicken to new heights” — literally, by launching it into space. Say hello to your new Colonel Sanders, Rob Lowe! The West Wing and Parks and Recreation alum, who famously spoofed himself in a series of DirecTV ad in 2015, continues his commercial acting career by being the new face of KFC. Lowe plays Sanders, known for his white hair, mustache and goatee and wire-rimmed glasses, in a new campaign promoting the fast food giant's new Zinger spicy chicken sandwich—a "100 percent chicken breast filet, double hand-breaded and fried to a golden brown by trained cooks in every KFC kitchen, and served with lettuce and Colonel's mayonnaise on a toasted sesame seed bun." In an ad released Friday, Lowe's Sanders presents the new...

In 2015, Paul Feig released “Other Space,” his sci-fi comedy that ran for one season on Yahoo! Screen. Now, in an attempt to build a larger fan base and seek a new broadcaster for a potential Season 2, the “Ghostbusters” helmer has shared all eight episodes of the series online at www.ShareOtherSpace.com.
The comedy stars Karan Soni, Milana Vayntrub and Neil Casey, as well as “Mystery Science Theater 3000” legends Joel Hodgson and Trace Beaulieu. “Other Space” is set in the early 22nd century and follows the misadventures of a bickering space exploration crew whose star cruiser ends up lost in an unknown universe.
Upon its release the series received critical acclaim, yet it toiled in anonymity on Yahoo’s fledgling streaming service, which has since shut down.

It’s Colonel vs. Colonel in the new Super Bowl commercial for KFC. For the first time ever, two Col. Sanders will appear on screen together during Sunday’s showdown.
Ahead of its television debut, KFC released a new promo in which Georgia Gold Colonel, portrayed by Billy Zane, promotes the company’s new Georgia Gold Chicken and gets interrupted – and almost tackled – by Kentucky Buckets Colonel, played by Rob Riggle.
The 15-second Super Bowl ad, set to debut in the fourth quarter, is the first time the company has aired a spot during the game itself. It previously unveiled a promo before the game and during a CBS live stream.

17 years ago, Aaron Paul “suffered the heartbreak of his life.” The year was 2000, and a pre-famed Paul was chosen as a contestant on “The Price is Right.” Unfortunately, the 20-year-old’s heartbreak came when he lost his Showcase Showdown after overbidding on a sports car.
Now years later, the “Breaking Bad” star is seeking redemption by returning to “The Price is Right” and getting a second chance at winning. During “The Late Late Show,” Paul and James Corden broke onto the set and went through the show’s entire process, recreating the experience for the Emmy Award-winning actor.

Here's to the Golden Globes – what other award show would bring Meryl Streep onstage for a lifetime-achievement tribute and then have the orchestra salute her with Abba's "Mamma Mia"? George Michael touched the world with much more than his music. His style was iconic, particularly in the areas of statement earrings, ripped jeans and leather jackets. But before he reached the peak of his career, the singer styled himself for his music videos, even sporting his own, non-designer, worn-in jeans throughout his “Faith” music video.
“My dad’s got them stashed away at his house,” the late singer told People in a 2010 interview of the now-famous Levis jeans. “They were my own jeans. The rips were genuine, because I wore them so much. I used to ask my mum to sew up new rips.
