Kaitlin Olson is back on double duty as producer and star of ABC‘s High Potential, which might prove to be her most relatable role yet.
As the 3x Emmy nominee celebrated the premiere of her new crime procedural with her co-stars and creator Drew Goddard on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Olson told Deadline how the show’s bigger mystery of her character Morgan’s missing ex spoke to her as a mother.
“One of the reasons that Morgan is compelled to work for the police department is because the father of her first-born child has been missing for 14 years, and she does no believe that he would have abandoned her or her daughter. The police didn’t believe her, so she mistrusts authority, and this is a new opportunity to have this current police help her figure that out,” said Olson. “I think it’s for her, but I...

After making a name for herself as one of the four ne’er-do-wells of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, Kaitlin Olson is entering the world of network procedurals in ABC’s “High Potential” in a move that even surprised herself.
“My agent brought this idea to me and gave me a summary, and I was like, ‘Wow, that sounds like not at all what I was thinking that I would do next,'” Olson told TheWrap, adding that her mind was quickly changed after reading series creator Drew Goddard’s script. “It’s so hard to balance a character and heart and soul with a dramatic procedural — it just needs a certain intelligence, talent and creativity to be able to do that, and I just thought he did it so seamlessly.”

ABC’s new police procedural High Potential takes viewers into the bustling world of the Los Angeles Police Department. Created by Drew Goddard and starring comedian Kaitlin Olson as civilian consultant Morgan Gillory, the show has an entertaining premise but remains a work in progress.
Morgan is a brilliant but unwieldy single mother who happens upon a mistake in one of the LAPD’s investigations. Impressed by her unique mind, Lieutenant Selena Soto recruits Morgan to assist the department’s Major Crimes unit. Despite initial resistance from Detective Adam Karadec, Morgan uses her high Iq and encyclopedic knowledge to help solve cases.
Olson brings zany energy to the role of Morgan. Yet three episodes in, High Potential still focuses too much on its eclectic lead. More needs to be done to flesh out supporting characters like Karadec and create multi-layered stories beyond each case of the week. Goddard’s creative talent ensures moments of flair,...

Updated: Sept. 16, 2024 - If you're looking for something to scratch your detective itch with The Rookie and Will Trent being held by the network until next year, High Potential is the program that's slated to catch your attention.
The procedural stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mom with a genius Iq who winds up helping law enforcement solve cases. She's unconventional in her approach which makes her partnership with seasoned detective, and by-the-book crime solver, Det. Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) so unstoppable. However, it's an unusual one as well. Something tells us, fans of Elsbeth will find this series right up their alley. Here's more on the show!

Another fall TV season is upon us, which means a fresh batch of network procedurals that can roughly be described as The ____ Who Solves Crimes. (Lucifer, The Devil Who Solves Crimes! Sleepy Hollow, The Ichabod Crane Who Solves Crimes!) ABC’s latest entry in the genre, High Potential — premiering Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 10/9c; I’ve seen the first three episodes — is basically The Genius Single Mom Who Solves Crimes, and it honestly doesn’t do much to reinvent the procedural wheel. But it’s still a satisfying underdog tale with a sly sense of humor, thanks to a fantastic lead performance from Kaitlin Olson.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that Spider-Man 4 has finally found a director in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton.
It's a decision which has been met with widespread approval from fans, especially after rumoured names like Drew Goddard and Adam Wingard did little to inspire confidence in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' plans for a movie that may or may not be another Multiversal epic.
However, good news for Spider-Man 4 is bad news for the Shang-Chi sequel.
According to Variety, "Cretton has also been developing a sequel to 'Shang-Chi,' but a source close to the production says that 'Spider-Man 4' is currently the priority for the studio." As a result, that movie has now been put on the back burner and will no longer be released before the next Avengers movies.

Ever since we learned that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts would not return to helm the next film in the franchise, reports have been swirling online about who might be in line to take over, with the likes of Justin Lin (Fast & Furious), Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah emerging as (rumored) contenders.
Now, we have confirmation that Spider-Man 4 (not its official title) has found its director in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton!
While Cretton's name had also popped up, he was thought to be the least likely to take the job considering prior commitments to several other projects, including a Shang-Chi sequel (which he is still attached to). Tom Holland has gained a bit of a reputation for revealing a little too much about his upcoming Spider-Man/MCU movies during interviews, to the point that it's now become a running joke. Even so, when the actor mentions a "secret" project, his fans are going to pay attention.
Holland shared a new behind-the-scenes photo to social media with the caption "secret shoot day."
This is highly unlikely to be Spider-Man 4 (the movie isn't scheduled to enter production until next year and doesn't even have a director attached), but there's some speculation that it could be for something else Spidey-related.
Venom: The Last Dance is also a long shot (the threequel comes out next month), but what about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse? Holland was rumored to make an appearance in the previous film, Across the Spider-Verse, and reports indicate that there were early plans for his take on Peter...

It’s fitting that one of the most anticipated fall TV shows has a title like High Potential. A fish-out-of-water tale with shades of The Rookie and Castle that stars the deft Kaitlin Olson, ABC’s newest dramedy procedural, written by Alias and Good Place vet Drew Goddard, is poised to be a breakout series. And Olson is ready. “It’s so different than anything I’ve done before,” she tells TV Guide Magazine, even though her protagonist Morgan Gillory — a single mom of three with a genius Iq — bears some resemblance to Sunny’s wise-cracking barfly “Sweet Dee” Reynolds. “I still love a scrappy character. Morgan’s incredibly intelligent, but it tortures her. She also is a wonderful mom who cares so much about her kids. It’s a fun departure from the degenerate characters I’ve played.” ABC/Disney Based on the French hit Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, this...

Sam Raimi directed the original Spider-Man trilogy and Marc Webb later stepped in to helm The Amazing Spider-Man movies. When it came time for Marvel Studios to reboot the character, Jon Watts was entrusted with taking charge of the character's MCU adventures.
He did a spectacular job across Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but ultimately decided to move on from Peter Parker after completing the trilogy. Now, Spider-Man 4 needs a new director and rumours continue to swirl about who will take the helm.
Depending on who you believe, the movie - which is expected to be released in 2026 between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars - is either going to be a street-level story featuring Daredevil and The Kingpin or another Multiversal team-up.
In this feature, we're singling out the filmmakers who would be a good fit for either approach to Spider-Man 4.

It's a little hard to believe that Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios still haven't officially confirmed that a fourth Spider-Man movie is on the way when you consider the amount of rumors that have been doing the rounds over the past year or so. Fans were hoping for some updates at Sdcc, but it can be easy to forget that any Spidey news would come from the Sony camp first, so a big Hall H announcement was always unlikely.

Killam will play Ludo Radovic, the salt-of-the-earth, kind-hearted, and disarmingly funny ex of Morgan (Olson) and the father of Elliott (Matthew Lamb) and Chloe. As she consults for the LAPD, Morgan heavily leans on Ludo as the primary caregiver for Ava (Amira J), Elliott, and Chloe.

Earlier this week, you might have noticed some chatter on social media about Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney suiting up as the McU's Black Cat in Spider-Man 4.
Unfortunately, it was simply a recycled rumour from earlier this year; however, the chatter surrounding it reiterated just how excited many fans are at the prospect of the Euphoria and Anyone But You actress playing Felicia Hardy.
Black Cat's introduction in the Spider-Man: No Way Home follow-up makes perfect sense. Nobody remembers who Peter Parker is and the comics have established that, early on at least, Felicia has zero interest in the man beneath the mask. Reeling from the loss of Mj, the wall-crawler heading down a dark path seems like a logical next step and Black Cat would surely facilitate that after getting her claws into him.

You're likely to find yourself admiring the choreography more than more after the event - once you've got your breath back.

There are pop culture references aplenty in the cult favorite TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but the franchise that gets the biggest nod of all is "Star Wars." Sure, the heroes call themselves the Scooby gang in reference to the old "Scooby Doo" cartoons, but you're more likely to hear a character quote Yoda than Velma or Shaggy. The vast majority of the references come from either Xander (Nicholas Brendon) — who was clearly a sort of self-insert for series creator Joss Whedon — or the Trio, a triple threat of turbo-nerds who challenge the Scooby gang in their efforts to become real-life supervillains. However, there are still a lot of "Star Wars" Easter eggs for a show about a high school student who fights the undead.
In an interview with "Star Wars Insider," the series' writers all revealed the reasons behind those numerous bits of "Star Wars" littered about "Buffy the Vampire Slayer,...

Disney updated its slate of Marvel movies yesterday evening, removing a previously scheduled July 24, 2026 movie so that year will see the release of only three MCU titles.
We know Avengers: Doomsday is coming on May 1, 2026, while it seems highly likely that Blade will be pushed to February 13, 2026. As for that November 6, 2026 slot, it remains a mystery to us.
As you might expect, there are a lot of questions about what all this means for Spider-Man 4. It's already been close to three years since Spider-Man: No Way Home swung to a record-breaking $1.9 billion and, based on past reports, Sony Pictures needs to start production on that fourth instalment by next September to retain the franchise's rights.
As Spider-Man 4 isn't technically a Marvel Studios movie, then it could quite easily still be released next year. In fact, Disney may have gifted that July 24 slot to Sony Pictures because it's typically...

Keanu Reeves is pausing — if not quite pausing time in bullet-time style — to reflect on the legacy of “The Matrix.”
The iconic sci-fi film celebrates its 25th anniversary, and Reeves appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in part to revisit how much “The Matrix” means to audiences.
“‘The Matrix’ changed my life, and then over these years, it’s changed so many other people’s lives in really positive and great ways,” Reeves said. “As an artist, you hope for that when you get to do a film or tell a story.”
He explained, “So when you say these years, the amount of people that I have met who have said to me and been touched by ‘The Matrix’ in such a positive way…It’s the best.”

Spider-man 4: Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Reveals Whether Jon Watts Will Return As Director
Jon Watts was only really known for directing Clown and Cop Car when Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures hired him to helm Spider-Man: Homecoming. Understandably, many fans had reservations about another "indie" director working on the franchise, particularly after Marc Webb had struggled with The Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
Fortunately, the filmmaker exceeded expectations and delivered three huge critical and commercial hits. After successfully getting Spider-Man: No Way Home across the finish line in 2021 (no easy feat given its scale and the pandemic), Watts was expected to begin work on Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot. Instead, he chose to leave the movie after devoting a good half a decade of his career to the MCU.
The fact Watts agreed to take charge of that movie seemed to suggest he never planned to return for Spider-Man 4, and several names have since been rumoured to be in the running for the coveted job.

Matt Damon has a very diverse filmography in his career so far. From Good Will Hunting to Oppenheimer and everything in between, he has given one spectacular performance after the other. But it was Ridley Scott directed The Martian, that became a turning point in the latter half of his ongoing career trajectory.
Matt Damon in Oppenheimer | Universal Pictures
The Martian is an Oscar-nominated movie that came out in 2015. Adapted by Drew Goddard from Andy Weir’s book by the same name, this fictional story depicted the life of an astronaut stranded on Mars. The movie, as well as the performance by the ensemble, was praised by critics and audiences alike, especially Damon, who showed the struggles of existing on a foreign planet, all on his own.
Ridley Scott’s Trick Made Matt Damon Cry in The Martian
Being a character stranded on a foreign planet meant the character of Matt Damon was all alone.

As far as we're aware, Marvel Studios still hasn't found a director for Spider-Man 4. It's looking increasingly unlikely that the movie will be released next year and, even with Kevin Feige heading to Hall H, an update in San Diego is doubtful because Sony Pictures controls the franchise.
There continue to be conflicting rumours about what we'll see in the movie, with Black Cat, Scorpion, Venom, and even The Kingpin all mentioned in recent months.
The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez has chimed in with an update on the web-spinner's future, promising that "Spider-Man will be a very important character for these next few stories," including the upcoming Avengers movies.
The scooper later claimed that Tthe McU's Kingpin "hates [Spider-Man and Daredevil] equally" and confirmed Mayor Wilson Fisk has a physical presence in the movie. Remember, it's previously been reported that Spidey and the Man Without Fear will team up to battle the...

When The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider broke the news of the package earlier his month, he reported that Gosling is also attached to star. We’re told that there’s no truth to the assertion, and that no casting attachments have been made. The Coopers will script the feature adaptation.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene promised us a clash between Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and Tom Holland's Peter Parker, only for that to come to nothing when Spider-Man: No Way Home rolled around.
In that movie's stinger, Eddie and Venom - who never left Mexico - were sent back to their reality, but only after leaving a piece of the Symbiote behind.
Venom: The Last Dance's trailer seemed to suggest the moment is being retconned, though we know many of you argued that the scene in question likely takes place back on Eddie's Earth (with that piece of the Symbiote playing a key role elsewhere in the threequel).
As for what all this may mean for Spider-Man 4, scooper Daniel Richtman believes the Venom: The Last Dance trailer was likely a misdirect and, as of now, the plan is for the Venom Symbiote to appear in the movie.

The new "Daredevil" live-action TV series "Daredevil: Born Again" is not a continuation of the Netflix “Daredevil” TV series , but a fresh 'reboot' according to actor Charlie Cox, who reprises his role as blind vigilante crime-fighter 'Matt Murdock', streaming March 2025 on Disney+:

"And so I feel like I'm getting a second chance at the dream job I refer to as...'the gift that keeps on giving.

Keanu Reeves owes a lot to The Matrix, a film series that is one of the few Hollywood classics that are still referenced in world media. While the latest addition to the film franchise was not very well received, Reeves has made his intentions clear about coming back for a fifth film, and there is just one condition the Youngblood-alum has when it comes to his return to the franchise.
Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix || Warner Bros.
Keanu Reeves is integral to The Matrix franchise, and while a fifth film has been announced, with Drew Goddard, who wrote the screenplay for The Martian, who is set to direct, no cast for the film has been announced yet. Reeves, however, has made it clear that if the film franchise wishes him to return for a third film, there is one person who needs to be part of the creative process for the franchise.

One of ABC’s two new scripted series for fall has hired a new showrunner.
Todd Harthan, a veteran of Fox’s medical drama The Resident, has joined the network’s High Potential as showrunner. He takes over the post from Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars), who exited the show earlier in June. The series is currently on a planned production hiatus and is scheduled to resume filming in July.
Created by Drew Goddard and based on a French series, High Potential stars Kaitlin Olson as a single mother who works as an office cleaner and helps crack a seemingly unsolvable case when she rearranges evidence during her shift at a police precinct. Thanks to her exceptional mind, she’s partnered with a detective (Daniel Sunjata) to work on other cases. Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb and Judy Reyes also star.

There’s been a changing of the guard at High Potential. The upcoming ABC drama has set Todd Harthan (The Resident) as its new showrunner, our sister site Deadline reports, following the departure of original showrunner Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Party Down).
Production on the Kaitlin Olson-led series has been paused during the search for a new showrunner, but it will reportedly resume next month. Thomas and High Potential‘s parting of ways, which was first announced earlier this month, was said to be “amicable.”
