Bourne director Paul Greengrass is to tackle the story of the untouchable Eliot Ness...
The reputedly incorruptible FBI Agent Eliot Ness couldn’t be bribed. That’s why they called him an untouchable. That didn’t mean his crack squad of law enforcement agents didn’t bend every other criminal ethic to bag a collar, and now his story is coming to the screen. Again. For Paramount Pictures is producing Ness, an updated version of the lawman’s life. Paul Greengrass, who helmed the best three entries in the Jason Bourne movie franchise, is in talks to direct the film.
Like the classic Untouchables TV series, Ness is looking good as a possible motion picture franchise. Paramount is looking at a fall production start.

In 1987, five young men, using brutally honest rhymes and hardcore beats, put their frustration and anger about life in the most dangerous place in America into the most powerful weapon they had: their music.
Taking us back to where it all began, Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of how these cultural rebels—armed only with their lyrics, swagger, bravado and raw talent—stood up to the authorities that meant to keep them down and formed the world’s most dangerous group, N.W.A.
And as they spoke the truth that no one had before and exposed life in the hood, their voice ignited a social revolution that is still reverberating Today.
Straight Outta Compton stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-e, and is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job).

More casting news has arrived for the Sony PlayStation Network adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming-created comic series Powers as Sharlto Copley and Michelle Forbes have signed on for active duty!
Variety reports that Copley (pictured) will play Christian Walker, described as a dapper and charismatic character with a darkness and violence right at the surface but with a sense of buried integrity. Walker has the dissolute air of a faded rock star and the body of a battered heavyweight.
Once possessed of super-powers, Walker lost those abilities in a battle with a super-human mass killer. A faded hero, he’s now a detective who works with law enforcement, using his singular expertise to investigate crimes in the Powers community.
Forbes ("True Blood," "The Killing") will play Retro Girl, the undisputed superstar of the Powers community. An icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen, she has a cool,...

Remember when Powers was going to be the next great drama series on FX? It was a few years ago that the pilot for Powers, based on Brian Michael Bendis’ Image/Icon comic, was being developed and I was super excited about it, but then it sort of disappeared. The project had been in development hell beforehand, with a movie being the original format it would’ve taken, leading to FX’s John Landgraf saying it was “as difficult an adaptation as I’ve ever worked on.” But things at FX are over and Sony Pictures Television will be moving the project elsewhere. In fact, Sony managed to keep it right at home by getting a series pick up for the PlayStation gaming console.

Matthew Arnold, creator-showrunner of NBC‘s upcoming summer drama series Siberia, has signed with ICM Partners. He didn’t have an agent. Siberia, which premieres July 1, is about a group of contestants who think they are competing in a reality show until the things go horribly wrong and they are left abandoned by the crew in a mysterious, supernatural wilderness. Arnold conceived of the series and wrote the bible before teaming with Michael Ohoven of Infinity Films to finance the first season independently. Ohoven and Sierra/Engine, which came in as a distributor, took the series to Mipcom in April and then sold it to NBC. Arnold wrote and directed the pilot and the season finale. He also co-wrote three additional episodes and directed a total of 7 episodes of the 13-epispde first season. A "Locke & Key" movie trilogy? An "Avengers" sized film starring DC Comics' supernatural all-stars and directed by Guillermo del Toro? A swing and a miss on the "Powers" TV show? Depending on what you believe, these are all things that are currently in the mix.
Latino Review published a massive report this week detailing several once and future (and possibly defunct) comic book movie and TV properties. Read on for the rundown.
» Up first is "Heaven Sent," a potential Guillermo del Toro director vehicle that would feature an all-star lineup of DC's most prominent supernatural characters including Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Etrigan the Demon, the Spectre and more. Considering their line that "Heaven Sent is certain to Rule ComicCon in 2020," we're not holding our breath for any confirmation on this project for quite some time.
» In news sure to make "Locke & Key" fans happy, Lr also reports that the...

Hola Readers!
Off the bat, one of my favorite and controversial sources was Pinche Taco. He was missing in action for quite a bit and many of you have asked me what happened to him. Taco is like a popular character who either died or went away for a while in a comic book storyline. If you know your comics, popular characters don’t ever die or go away. Sometimes they even evolve. Pinche Taco not only returns to the Latino Review fold, but he has evolved as well!
Enjoy the Five scoops he got for us! Five! Talk about evolution!
There was a great fanzine once called Afta. The title stood for Ascension From The Ashes. It only came out three times. The guy who wrote it loved movies and comics. He died several years ago in a fire- his boxes of movies and comics made it impossible for him to escape the fire.

We have been reporting quite a bit of very recent casting news about the comic-to-tv-pilot adaptation of Powers, a police procedural set in a world with superpowers. It now looks like the final piece of the puzzle has fallen into place, as they have awarded the role of Christian to the very excellent Jason Patric. Here is the FX press release, which includes a nice bit of info about the show as well as about Mr. Patric:
Film and stage star Jason Patric has signed on to star as “Christian Walker” in the FX drama series pilot Powers, based on the award-winning comic and graphic novel series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.
“We’ve been asked repeatedly why it has taken so long to bring our series adaptation of Powers to fruition. It is for the same reason we cast Jason Patric in this role; we are aiming for something extraordinary,...

Jason Patric has been tapped as the male lead in the FX drama pilot Powers. Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker (Patric) and Deena Pilgrim (Lucy Punch), in a Homicide department that deals with cases involving "powers" (people with superpowers). Eglee, Dinner, David Engel and Bendis are executive producing for Sony Pictures TV and FX Prods. Filming is slated for mid-summer in Chicago. If Powers goes to series, it will mark Patric's first regular series gig. Last year, he co-starred in the HBO comedy pilot Tilda. In features, Patric, repped by ICM and Untitled, was most recently seen in The Losers.

FX's comic book-inspired pilot "Powers" has cast its female lead.
Lucy Punch ("Hot Fuzz," "The Class") will play Deena Pilgrim, a homicide detective who works on cases involving people with superpowers, Deadline reports. In the opening of the comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, Deena is a new transfer to the Powers division, where she's partnered with Christian Walker, a former hero who lost his powers.
Katee Sackhoff had campaigned for the part of Deena, but to no avail. British actress Punch is mostly known for comedy -- her credits also include "Bad Teacher" and "Dinner for Schmucks" -- but that background could serve her pretty well as Deena, who in the comics doesn't have much of a filter.
The Walker role hasn't been cast yet. Reports earlier this year said FX was courting "Friday Night Lights" star Kyle Chandler for the part, but we haven't heard much since then.

Exclusive: Showtime has bought a script for Chew, a quirky half-hour cop show based on John Layman and Rob Guillory’s bestselling comic book of the same name. Stephen Hopkins is attached to direct and executive produce the project, which hails from Circle of Confusion, the company behind AMC’s hit series adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead. Chew tells the darkly comic story of federal agent Tony Chu, a “cibopath” able to get psychic impression from the things he eats who is assigned to the most usual and bizarre crimes. “There are a lot of superhero comic books, but there are not many food comic books," Layman told me back in July when the TV project was still in the nascent stages. We've been hearing about a "Powers" television series based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's popular comic book series for more than two years now, with the most recent report indicating that a former member of "The Walking Dead" team had joined the project. There's been little in the way of news since then, but now we have another big update.
Bendis recently confirmed on Twitter that the series was picked up and greenlit for a pilot by FX. The Hollywood Reporter further confirms that "The Walking Dead" castoff Charles Eglee will serve as executive producer alongside Bendis, Oeming, Michael Dinner, David Engel, and "The Walking Dead" production company Circle of Confusion.
The report also seems to indicate that Kevin Falls, who was attached to adapt the comic "at one point," is no longer involved.
