The Three Stooges
Stars: Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Hudson, Craig Bierko, Stephen Collins, Larry David | Written by Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly, Mike Cerrone | Directed by Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly
As if bringing us Stooge-like comedy with Stuck on You and Dumb and Dumber wasn’t enough, The Farrelly Brothers take on the sacred-cow of comedy with a modern-day reinterpretation of the classic slapstick of Larry, Curly and Moe in The Three Stooges…
Abandoned on a nun’s doorstep, Larry, Curly and Moe grow up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuking and woo-woo-wooing their way to uncharted levels of knuckleheaded calamity. But when the orphanage that took them in is at risk of shutting down the brothers make it their miracle mission to save their childhood home. The hapless trio are always landing themselves in trouble and now they are at risk of becoming entangled in an oddball murder plot.

The promo is all breasts, bums and reality TV stars. It's no wonder Penn, Del Toro and Carrey ran a mile
When it was announced that the Farrelly brothers were attempting to bring the Three Stooges to modern audiences via a big screen outing, we were told Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey were in line to play Larry, Moe and Curly. Flash forward to 2011, and the first trailer for the film has arrived with TV stars Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes and Will Sasso in the lead roles. In Hollywood terms, this is a bit like being offered prime fillet steak for tea and ending up with a dollop of Princes' canned meat.
The best Farrelly brothers movies, such as There's Something About Mary and Stuck on You, carefully combined low-rent laughs with plenty of heart and a fair amount of puerile charm. Perhaps The Three Stooges will do the same,...

After that first teaser poster only showed us the silhouettes of Will Sasso, Sean Hayes and Chris Diamantopoulos as Curly, Larry and Moe respectively in the long-gestating big screen version of The Three Stooges from the Farrelly Brothers, we finally have the first official photo of the whole gang with some light shed on them, and it's not too bad. Sasso's iteration of Curly will have to be heard rather than seen to get the full effect, but clearly Diamantopoulos is almost channeling Jim Carrey as he transforms into Moe and Hayes has essentially disappeared into Larry and his scraggly hair. See the first look photo below! Here's the first official photo of The Three Stooges (via USA Today): The Three Stooges is written & directed by filmmaking brothers Bobby & Peter Farrelly, of the comedies including Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, Shallow Hal, The Heartbreak Kid and Hall...

The first poster for the new Three Stooges movie has shown up on the film's official Facebook page. Based on the classic TV show, the new movie is being directed by the Farrelly brothers. Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos and Will Sasso are set to play the titular trio with a host of other top comedians set to cameo. The film is set to be split into three half hour shorts following the Stooges as they try to save their childhood orphanage. With Moe, Larry, and Curly accidentally stumbling into a murder plot and winding up in a reality TV show. The Farrelly's have been on a poor streak recently, and while they certainly have their moments, for every Dumb And Dumber they have a Stuck On You. The Three Stooges is due for release in 2012. Still doesn’t make any more excited. Jane Lynch of Glee fame for people with poor taste in television, has joined the cast of Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s upcoming take on The Three Stooges [Deadline].
She will be playing the role of Mother Superior, a nun who runs the orphanage that Moe, Larry and Curly grow up in. Originally, the Farrellys wanted Cher for the role, who they had previously worked with in their 2003 con-joined twins comedy Stuck on You. However, I guess someone involved with the production decided they should probably get someone with the ability to move their face in a natural way. It works better in comedy if you aren’t Botox-ed out, Joan Rivers notwithstanding.
For those of you sticking your head in the sand avoiding any news on this, the main roles have already been cast; Will Sasso will be playing Curly, Sean Hayes will...

Sofia Vergara is said to be up for a part in the Farrelly brothers' upcoming The Three Stooges , according to Variety . Vergara, best known for her breakout role on "Modern Family," would play the female lead in the tribute to the original comedy legends. She would join Will Sasso as Curly, Sean Hayes as Larry and a yet-to-be-cast Moe. The plot, inspired by original "Three Stooges" shorts, will have the trio left as newborns outside an orphanage and will follow them into adulthood, the full film being divided into three half-hour shorts. Sean Hayes, Will & Grace actor, joins the cast for the upcoming Three Stooges movie.
Hayes claim to fame is his role in the T.V. series Will & Grace. He will be playing Larry in 20 Century Fox’s new comedy. He now stands side by side with actor, Will Sasso who will be playing Curly. Comedy filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who have been behind films such as Dumb and Dumber and Shallow Hal, will direct the Three Stooges. Together the filmmakers are working with writer Mike Cerrone to create an epic and memorable film in origination with the comic genius of The Three Stooges (which I’m assuming will be an epic fail).
Originally when the project was set up, the Farrellys envisioned Sean Penn as Larry, Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio del Toro as Moe. Now, this is a movie I could get behind. Jim Carrey’s ridiculous...

Jenna Fischer, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis and Christina Applegate in Hall Pass
This weekend sees the release of Hall Pass, the latest movie from the Farrelly brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber, Stuck On You). We’ll have our review of the film up soon, but in the meantime director/writer Bobby Farrelly and co-writer Kevin Barnett sat down for a roundtable interview here in Toronto, and Dork Shelf’s own Ian MacIntyre was invited to join in. Bobby and Kevin discussed Hall Pass, how comedy has changed, marriage, and crazy Three Stooges casting rumors.
Questions marked with “Q” are from other journalists who were present at the roundtable.
Bobby Farrelly: Well guys, what have I got to say? (Motions To Hotel Board Room)
Q: This is all looking rather more corporate than I would have thought for the guys that did “Something About Mary”…
Farrelly: Uh yeah.

Bobby and Peter Farrelly are talking their new film The Three Stooges with the L.A Times!
While they have denied they have even starting casting for their upcoming big screen adaptation of The Three Stooges, they did reveal to the La Times, they have one actor in mind for the flick.
Cher!
Apparently, Cher is number one pick to play the Mother Superior nun in the new flick.
The brothers admit to the newspaper, they think Cher is the "coolest chick ever" and have been waiting to work with her again ever since they worked with her on Stuck on You.
Cher last appeared in the film Burlesque and won Best Original Song at The Golden Globes for 'You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me.'

Farrelly Brothers Want Cher For Stooges
Quirky moviemakers the Farrelly Brothers want Cher to play a scary nun in their Three Stooges movie.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly insist the Burlesque star, who played herself in their film Stuck on You, would be the perfect fit for the Mother Superior role in the comedy - and they have a few other dream castmates for the project, which at one point was to include Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn.
Peter Farrelly tells CinemaBlend.com, "We always thought Andy Samberg looks a little like he could play Larry and Johnny Knoxville is a real-life stooge. He's a real-life Moe."...

We heard a small bit from the Farrelly Brothers earlier this week on their next project The Three Stooges. In our previous article, the brothers said they had begun pre-production on and plan to start shooting this summer. The only problem was the film still doesn’t have a cast.
“You know what, I’ll just tell you this; we’re reading everyone for the role. We’re considering everybody. We’re looking at Oscar-winners to unknowns. We’re very excited and we really feel that we’re going to get a fantastic cast. But a lot of it has to do with the fact that all three have to be the same age, around the same height. So we’re really waiting until we cast that first guy until we figure out the rest. It’s a little tricky.”

While the Farrelly brothers (Dumb and Dumber) continue searching for the three actors to play Larry, Curly, and Moe in the big screen version of "The Three Stooges," the directors revealed that they already know who they want to play one of the lead female roles. "Cher is just the coolest chick ever," Peter Farrelly told La Times. "It's hard to describe. You meet a lot of celebrities in our business. We're not cowed by many of them. But Cher is bawdy, she's fun, she's cool, she's lived a life, she's got experience, she's humble. It's the humility that struck me the most. She's not really a diva." The singer/actress had a cameo in the Farrellys' "Stuck on You" back in 2003. At the time, the helmers spoke to her about a part in the "Stooges" film, which they were hoping to shoot next. At the time, she agreed. If cast,...

With a mid-April start date scheduled, the pressure is on for Peter and Bobby Farrelly to find their three leads for The Three Stooges. Once said to have Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn attached, the cast list is currently empty, though the search continues. But while they continue to look for their new Larry Moe and Curly, that doesn't mean they aren't thinking about people to play supporting roles as well. The Farrelly brothers, who are currently promoting their newest film, Hall Pass, recently told the La Times that they want Cher, who recently made her acting comeback in the musical Burlesque last year, to play the role of Mother Superior, a nun that the stooges terrorize, in their next film. Cher previously starred as herself in the Farrelly's 2003 comedy Stuck on You, in which she played herself. The brothers also commented on the rumor that they...

As we’ve already reported, Sean Penn and Hollywood are breaking up. Or at least going through a trial separation. One of the consequences of this newly announced hiatus is Penn’s departure from the Farrelly Brothers’ “The Three Stooges,” a film that’s now in jeopardy thanks to the actor’s sudden exit.
With the role of Larry now open, it’ll be up to a last-minute replacement to save the film. So who in the movie business could possibly jump in at the eleventh hour to knock noses and poke eyeballs with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro? It remains to be seen — but I’ve certainly got my picks.
Matt Damon: Casting Sean Penn as Larry was certainly unexpected given the actor’s Oscar cred. If the Farrelly Brothers wanted to pursue a similar avenue with the new Stooge, I’d recommend they consider Matt Damon.

Moe, Larry and Curly are almost complete. MGM and the Farrelly brothers are negotiating with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro to join Sean Penn for the slapstick trio.
The studio has already set Penn to play Larry. They are also zeroing in on Carrey to play Curly and Del Toro to play Moe to complete the set.
Variety also reports that Carrey is already making plans to gain 40 pounds to be at par with Curly's rotund physique.
The slapstick comedy will center around the antics of the trio - Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard - in the Columbia Pictures shorts during the 1930s and '40s. Comedy team, Peter and Bobby Farrelly ("My, Myself and Irene," "Shallow Hal," and "There's Something About Mary"), wrote the script and are producing with their Conundrum partner Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler.
