The Cold Light Of Day
Stars: Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis, Verónica Echegui, Sigourney Weaver, Joseph Mawle, Caroline Goodall| Written by Scott Wiper, John Petro | Directed by Mabrouk El Mechri
With action films it seems that sometimes the story writers feel they don’t have to really try. They seem to think that if they can get some recognisable stars that can put in a charismatic performance then it’s a safe bet that they will have a hit. Sometimes this can pay off, if the action scenes are big enough and the viewers are mesmerised into enjoying the big explosions and gun battles taking place in front of them, they won’t notice that they’ve seen the story many times before. This is the problem with The Cold Light of Day.
Will is on holiday with his family in Spain, but his thoughts are back home where he is being threatened with bankruptcy.

After getting eight new images and a new clip from action-thriller The Cold Light of Day yesterday, Entertainment One UK have sent over two fast-paced action-fuelled clips for us to share with you showcasing Henry Cavill’s brute strength and resourcefulness in the lead.
We last saw Cavill in Tarsem Singh’s Immortals, which took more than $200m. at the international box office, and with The Cold Light of Day and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel as the actor’s next two leading roles, he’s clearly cementing himself as a rising action star/hero.
Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver star alongside Cavill, with Mabrouk El Mechri taking the helm, directing from a script co-written by Scott Wiper and John Petro.
“In 24hrs Will Shaw’s family will be dead.

Apparently the new way to make your old screenplay idea seem fresh is to rewrite one of the major roles for a woman to play it. It worked for Salt, it's the idea behind Helen Mirren's lead role in The Tempest, and now Sigourney Weaver-- the queen of playing women who act like men-- will be giving the gender-bending another go. According to Deadline she and Bruce Willis are in talks to star in The Cold Light of Day, a thriller already starring Henry Cavill as a young American teenager forced to track down his family while they are vacationing in Spain. Willis would be playing the father, while Weaver's role is the villain, presumably a kidnapper with some role in the government conspiracy at the heart of things. Jcvd director Mabrouk El Mekchri is directing the screenplay by Scott Wiper and John Petro, which recently got a...

Jcvd was one of the more interesting project of the last decade, a pseudo-documentary about Jean-Claude Van Damme himself. The actor gave one of his best performances in a long time and the film had a slick, gritty style. Now director Mabrouk El Mechri has lined up his next project and found an actor to lead, Heat Vision reports.

But the company hasn't ruled out making fantasy films for adults -- Summit has just picked up a script called The Cold Light of Day, by writers Scott Wiper and John Petro, which the company will co-finance and distribute. Variety reports that the film follows "a young American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain. He's left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets." That's a lot to do in just a few hours; hopefully there's a guidebook to government conspiracies laying around. Like I said: a fantasy film for adults. No swords and orcs required.
