The holiday season is supposed to be the “hap, happiest season of all.” But it isn’t that way for everyone. In spite of the mountains of glitter, endless amounts of Christmas cookies and ample amounts of cheer to go around, there can still be some pouting throughout the holidays. But what’s this season about if not finding a change of heart? And there’s no better way to get into the spirit of the season than by watching these family-friendly movies on Netflix. They’ll make your heart grow three sizes.
If you’ve ever had to spend the holiday season with a Scrooge or Grinch, then you understand how hard it can be. They never want to sing Christmas carols, deck the halls or participate in any fun traditions. Sometimes, somehow, these people can change, whether it’s through the power of song or after meeting Santa Claus himself.

Two weeks ago, we learned that production had wrapped on writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, which started filming back in February and was, at the time, aiming for an October 25th release date. Now Deadline reports that fans will have the chance to see this supernatural slasher sequel two weeks earlier than expected, as the North American theatrical release date has moved forward to October 11th! Along with the new release date announcement comes the unveiling of an image from the film, and you can check that out at the bottom of this article.
Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on his breakout horror film Terrifier, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2, which was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, Terrifier 3 has a substantially higher budget.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the biggest names in Hollywood and an actor and entertainer who has a big fanbase and a lot of influence. Starting out as a WWE star, he soon transitioned to television and movies, becoming one of the most popular action stars in the world. Known, more or less, as a laid-back guy with an open mind, The Rock is quite popular, but it seems that he is not the most pleasant guy to work with and that his work ethic isn’t that commendable.
This new report comes from the set of the upcoming Red One movie, which is set to come out on November 15, 2024 and will be a Christmas action movie with Johnson in the main role. Alongside him, the movie will star Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, as well as Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons in the role of Santa Claus.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently made his grand return to wrestling with the WWE, but the star might be taking his "heel" persona a little too far these days.
There's absolutely nothing unusual in Hollywood when it comes to the delicate art of managing high-profile egos -- just ask Vin Diesel, who knows all too well from his days bumping heads with his famous co-star during the "Fast and Furious" saga -- but things seem to have escalated to a whole new level on the set of Amazon Studios' upcoming Christmas film "Red One." That's the latest scuttlebutt according to extensive reporting by Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap, who paints an alarming picture of habitual lateness, deeply unprofessional behavior, and producing inexperience in several crucial roles. All of these factors seem to have come together to turn what was initially envisioned as a straight-to-streaming original and a potential franchise starter...

Is there any actor who casually oozes coolness like Kurt Russell?
As with anyone in Hollywood, the young Russell had to earn his stripes. Upon signing a contract with the Mouse House, he started out anchoring a collection of zany Disney comedies in the '60s and '70s, including "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes," "The Strongest Man in the World," and "The Barefoot Executive," a movie that paired him opposite a chimpanzee. Beginning with their 1979 made-for-tv "Elvis" biopic, however, Russell and director John Carpenter collaborated on a series of highly efficient yet firmly modest genre films, many of which became cult hits and cemented their too-cool-for-school reputation.
Russell has only continued to evolve his legacy in the 21st century, starring in everything from cult favorites as worlds apart as "Sky High" and "Bone Tomahawk" to Quentin Tarantino joints and blockbuster franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Fast...

Film Adaptation of J.K. Rowling Children’s Book ‘The Christmas Pig’ in Early Development (Exclusive)
J.K. Rowling’s bestselling children’s book “The Christmas Pig” is set to get a film adaptation.
Variety understands the project is in a very early stage of development in-house and a production company has not yet been attached.
Rowling’s production company Bronte already produces the BBC/HBO adaptation of her adult detective series “Cormoran Strike.”
“The Christmas Pig” was first published in 2021 with illustrations by Jim Field. At the time of publication, Swift Films made a series of promotional videos for the project.
The book tells the story of a boy named Jack, who loses his childhood toy Dur Pig — nicknamed Dp — on Christmas Eve after his stepsister throws it out of the family car. Although Jack is offered a replacement called Christmas Pig as consolation, he misses his old faithful friend and casts Christmas Pig (abbreviated to Cp) aside.
To cheer Jack up, Cp proposes a plan to rescue his best toy.

Just a few days ago, we learned that Rob Zombie regular / prolific character actor Daniel Roebuck had joined the cast of Terrifier 3, taking on the role of Santa Claus – and now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have confirmed that production on the film, which started filming back in February, has officially wrapped! After their report, writer/director Damien Leone took to social media to share his thoughts on the production now that it’s all over.
Leone wrote, “And that’s a wrap on Terrifier 3! This was easily the most challenging film of my career and an emotional rollercoaster to say the least! Daniel Roebuck has racked up over 250 credits over the course of a career that has lasted nearly 40 years so far, and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have just broken the news that one of his next credits will be on writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3, which is set to receive a theatrical release on October 25th. According to the site, Roebuck will be appearing in the film as Santa Claus. It seems fitting, because Roebuck was already in Santa mode for a family-friendly movie called Saint Nick of Bethlehem, which he co-wrote and co-directed. That movie will be released later this year as well.
Roebuck provided the following statement: “I’ve been holding this secret for a long time! I’ve been really excited about it. I’m actually entering into the movies that I watch. It’s extraordinary. This is Terrifier bigger, badder, best.“

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. “Sleeping Dogs,” starring Russell Crowe as a retired cop with Alzheimer’s disease, is a half-rusted scrap heap of a detective mystery. It’s patchy, it’s badly lit, it’s glum, it’s overloaded with suspects, and it’s almost proud of its contrivances. Yet in its logy, booby-trapped way, it keeps you watching.
Crowe, with a white beard and shaved head that make him look like Santa Claus as a melancholy biker, plays Roy Freeman, who was forced to turn in his badge after he caused a drunk-driving accident. Now, he’s in the thick of serious midstage dementia; he has written labels on masking tape and plastered them around his apartment, so that he’ll be reminded of everything from his own name to where the hot water is. That Christmas, the upcoming Netflix animation co-written and produced by Richard Curtis has revealed its stacked voice cast. More on that below.
March is coming to an end soon, so it feels only appropriate to start talking about Christmas, right? Or, at least, Christmas films.
One of this year’s buzziest titles has to be That Christmas, which we reported was in the works back in 2022. The project has since found a home at Netflix and is expected to land during the festive season this year.
The film will be directed by Simon Otto and the script is penned by Peter Souter and Richard Curtis. That seems logical, considering the film is based on Curtis’ trilogy of children’s books. Curtis is also on board as an executive producer.
As announced today by Netflix, the voice cast for the film includes Brian Cox as Santa Claus himself and he will be joined by Fiona Shaw,...

Tommy Wirkola‘s action-thriller Violent Night is getting a sequel, we learned last year, but what’s the latest on that project? Is it still happening or has it fallen by the wayside?
Chatting with Collider at SXSW last week, Violent Night producer Kelly McCormick promised that Violent Night 2 is definitely still happening, and might be filming next year.
“We are planning on returns to those universes,” McCormick responded when the outlet asked for updates on sequels to both Nobody and the Christmas movie Violent Night.
McCormick teased, “Hopefully, honestly, even potentially end of this year for Nobody 2 and, beginning of next year for Violent Night 2, if we can find time in everybody’s busy schedules.
“But the development’s going super well and everybody’s really, really excited about moving those worlds forward.”
Last we heard, Pat Casey and Josh Miller will be back to write Violent Night...

Bradley Cooper’s talent both as an actor and as a director is definitely nothing to sneeze at. After all, he has been a major force in films such as Silver Linings Playbook, The Hangover, A Star is Born and many more.
The Hangover
Bradley Cooper had a lot of things to look forward to at the Oscars, as he was one of the favorites to win the Best Actor award for his role in Maestro. However, that wasn’t the case as Cillian Murphy won in the end. In light of his crushing loss, it appears Bradley Cooper revived his iconic role as Rocket Racoon in Guardians of The Galaxy.

The details of American politics do not concern Alex Garland in Civil War.
Despite the controversy it’s already courted about its supposed prescience, the unsettling feature from the British filmmaker doesn’t predict a future based on the country’s current two-party system. Garland is far more interested in the United States’ self-regarding exceptionalism, its belief in its own safety from executive instability. He is fascinated by how factionalism instigates conflict and how no nation is immune to the results of its violence.
Premiering at SXSW, Civil War explores these preoccupations from the perspective of a group of journalists as they chronicle life in their war-torn country while traveling to Washington, D.C. We meet the crew in New York, where they are covering a tense confrontation between civilians and police. Lee Smith (Kirsten Dunst) — a conflict photographer whose success and abrasiveness are modeled on that of celebrated World...

Over the last ten years, former stuntman David Leitch has directed such films as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and the upcoming The Fall Guy. While he keeps busy directing action films, he also produces them, with two Leitch productions being Nobody and Violent Night, both of which were released by Universal Pictures. Talking to Collider, Leitch and fellow producer Kelly McCormick confirmed that Universal is really invested in building Nobody and Violent Night franchises – so Nobody 2 and Violent Night 2 are both heading toward production!
Directed by Ilya Naishuller from a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, Nobody starred Bob Odenkirk as as Hutch Mansell, an unassuming family man who cowers and folds during a home invasion. His post-traumatic shame disorder reignites a long-cooled fire within, and he summons a secret lethal skill set for a revenge mission, only to see it backfire spectacularly and put his family in greater jeopardy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jack Reacher’s Alan Ritchson are to co-star in a Christmas movie for Amazon/MGM called The Man With The Bag.
Of all the films Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in across his long career, 1996’s Jingle All The Way was undoubtedly one of them. And, almost 30 years on from that festive comedy, it’s announced that the Austrian Oak is making another Christmas film, this time for Amazon MGM Studios.
It’s called The Man With The Bag, and according to The Hollywood Reporter’s plot summary, sees Santa Claus on the hunt from his stolen, enchanted bag. This leads Santa to “team up with Vance, a reformed thief and denizen of the naughty list” to find it, with Vance’s daughter and a “team of misfit elves” also taken along for the adventure.
We’re pretty sure that the container Santa used to shuttle his gifts around...

According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, the logline for The Man With the Bag reads: “When Santa’s magic bag is stolen, he turns to his naughty list to find Vance, a former thief, to help him get it back. Pro-Trump Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene had some choice words for British journalist Emily Maitlis yesterday when questioned over her support for certain fringe conspiracy theories.
Maitlis was in the U.S. reporting for her daily podcast The News Agents and queried Greene over her promotion of a conspiracy that “state-of-the-art Jewish space lasers” were being used to shoot down Santa Claus. “If you want to win the war on Christmas, first you take out the person who makes Christmas possible,” Greene is reported to have said in 2021.
Following Trump’s rollicking Super Tuesday victory over Nikki Haley, Maitlis asked Greene: “Can you tell me why so many people that support Donald Trump love conspiracy theories including yourself?”
Greene responded by accusing Maitlis, the left and the mainstream media of themselves being “conspiracy theorists.”

Apparently, there is a Santa Claus. At least for Katharina Stark. For the German actress, picked as one of this year’s European Shooting Stars set to be honored at the 2024 Berlinale as among the continent’s 10 best up-and-coming actors, being in the movies was her Christmas wish.
“I always, always wanted to act, to be in the movies. From as far back as I can remember, I would watch movies, and I wanted to be in them, to live inside them,” says Stark. “So when I was eight years old, that’s what I wished for: to be an actress. My parents gave me a gift certificate, where they wrote they would do everything they could to support my dream and that they would always support me.”
Stark’s folks came through, chauffeuring little Katharina from their town of Illertissen (population 16,000) in rural Bavaria, 90 minutes into Munich, the nearest media hub,...

Only Santa Claus on Christmas Eve has a flight that’s been more eagerly watched.
Taylor Swift has reportedly been rushed to a plane in Japan following her concert there. She now faces a flight that crosses several time zones and the international date line. If all goes as planned, she will arrive in Las Vegas tonight.
According to the Associated Press, an hour after the “Bad Blood” singer’s show ended, minivans arrive at Haneda Airport. A reported “four to five people carrying large black umbrellas obstructed the view of the person” entering the rides.
Swift is expected to land in Las Vegas by 5:30 p.m. local time Saturday and have nearly 24 hours to rest before Kelce and his team take on the San Francisco 49ers in Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
Kelce appears to have fronted the cost of a private suite for Swift and Kelce’s family.

In the case of most animated movies and TV shows, the voice actors are recorded separately and at different times. An actor can come to the studio based on their own schedule, record their own lines without any of their co-stars in the building, and "bank" an episode before the animation begins. Typically, behind-the-scenes footage of voice actors plying their craft tends to feature them alone in a soundproof booth.
There are, of course, plenty of exceptions to the rule. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill famously acted out their scenes together for "Batman: The Animated Series," and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" saw the four titular turtle teens all recording together. One can see the advantages and disadvantages of both individual and group recordings right away. The former can make for a streamlined animation process that can bend to the schedule of an actor, while the latter can produce...

David Lee Roth is in full vendetta mode these days. After hitting back at Sammy Hagar last week, he’s now turned his attention to Wolfgang Van Halen.
The longtime Van Halen singer posted a YouTube video on Wednesday (January 24th) deriding the son of the late Eddie Van Halen. The clip starts out with a conversation between Diamond Dave and “Jesus Christ” that metaphorically suggests that Wolfgang benefitted from nepotism when he was tapped to play bass in Van Halen as a teenager back in 2007.
The immature Jesus voice says, “Bro, I just want people to know … I got this job because of my talent. I woulda had this job anyway even if my dad wasn’t God.”
Then, Dlr goes into a long story about how Wolfgang complained about not getting enough attention from the singer, and that the young Van Halen supposedly mistook the band’s accountants...

Roll out the red carpet because Ethan Coen’s upcoming feature, Honey Don’t, is ready to add some of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters to the cast. Coen will reteam with Margaret Qualley for the new project, with Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Evans leading the cast. Details about the plot remain a mystery, but whispers around the watercooler suggest it’s a comedy in the vein of Focus Features‘ Drive-Away Dolls.

The duo paired off for Drive-Away Dolls, starring Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan. Its intro is made of nightmare fuel as the camera treks through its main gate, which ascends to a broken-down, deteriorated mansion as lightning cackles through the night sky. We enter this amusement park of horrors, cobwebs draped alongside the walls, creeks and strange noises echoing about, eerie atmosphere soaking up the screen, and we enter a false trap door. Now when I was younger, I think I was close to shitting my pants because here or there as we descend down these stairs into this abyss, and we go through a room here and there. And then right then and there,...

By the estimation of "Futurama," Christmas will be celebrated very differently in the early 30th century. For one, festive, decorated fir trees will be replaced with palm trees. Also, the spelling of "Christmas" will officially evolve into "Xmas." Most importantly, Xmas will see the release of a real-life robot Santa Claus, built many years ago to gauge the niceness and naughtiness of the world's children and distribute worldwide gifts accordingly. Sadly, Robot Santa's programming had a glitch, and he now gauges everyone to be naughty, a sin punishable by death. Jolly Old St. Nick now takes to the skies on Xmas armed with missiles and bombs, merrily murdering anyone he sees on the streets. Fearful citizens huddle inside shielded beneath anti-Santa armor, a standard feature of most 30th-century buildings.
This is a wonderfully irreverent concept that blends Christmas imagery with science fiction in a blithe and silly fashion. In his...

There is one scene from "Gremlins" that has always stood out to me and I think about it every Christmas. Phoebe Cates' character Kate has a monologue about how much she hates Christmas because, as a child, her father went missing and the police discovered him with a broken neck inside her chimney while dressed as Santa Claus with an armful of presents. "And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus," she grimly declares at the end in a flat voice.
Kate's speech about this tragic holiday death paints a visceral image in your mind. It captures the essence of "Gremlins" which, on the surface, is a family-friendly, yuletide comedy with a dark and freaky center. This duality mirrors the Gremlins themselves: the cute, cuddly Gizmo on the outside and the mischievous monster within.

Ice Cube is responding to comments made by comedian, writer and actor Katt Williams about the pay, casting and an alleged rape scene in the Friday franchise.
The rapper and producer took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Friday to address several statements made during Williams’ recent interview on former NFL star Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. In a nine-minute video, Ice Cube said he had “a lot of love for Katt,” who “spoke up for me a lot,” but he “wanted to be clear to clarify some things.”
That includes denying he would film a rape scene after Williams told Sharpe that he had pushed for the removal of a sexual assault sequence from Friday After Next. “I would never shoot a rape scene in a movie, especially Friday, where you actually see this happening on camera. That ain’t my style,” Ice Cube said.

During the spring of 2023, comedian and actor Rickey Smiley appeared on Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe's show "Club Shay Shay" to talk about his career, and shocked comedy film fans everywhere when he claimed that he was originally cast as the pimp Money Mike in the final film of the "Friday" trilogy, "Friday After Next." The film was his feature acting debut, but Smiley would eventually play the role of the robber Santa Claus with Katt Williams portraying Money Mike. Williams had been an established comic since the 1990s, but "Friday After Next" was his breakthrough acting role that helped put him on the map before "Wild 'n Out" made him a household name.
A wholly original comedic voice with an untouchable ability to bring honesty to even the most flamboyant characters, when Katt Williams is cast in a role ... it feels like it was written for him.
