The Ad Council and Covid Collaborative today announced new PSAs as part of their Covid-19 Vaccine Education Initiative’s “It’s Up To You” campaign featuring former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and former First Ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton and Rosalynn Carter.
The videos are designed to encourage all Americans to get answers to the top questions about the Covid-19 vaccines at GetVaccineAnswers.org and to get a vaccination when it’s available to them.
“Over the past year, the pandemic has taken an immeasurable toll on families all across the country and upended everyone’s lives,” said President Barack Obama. “Michelle and I got vaccinated against Covid-19 because we know it’s the best way to get the country back up and running again—and get us back to the moments we miss. It shouldn’t be difficult to determine who is winning this. Bernie Sanders is the only candidate who has shown the ability thus far to form any kind of firm base within the Democratic electorate — younger voters who may find him personally popular even more so than a platform that Republicans are counting on to scare a more moderate American electorate. That last part may be why political intelligentsia seems to be having a devil of a time with this race. The way that CNN and MSNBC covered Sanders’s narrow New Hampshire primary win,...

Democrats’ Iowa caucus produced endless bitterness but no uncontested winner. Here are 10 ways the caucus process went wrong.
Misapportioned “State Delegate Equivalents”
The formula for determining the number of delegates a candidate receives in Iowa is based upon the number of “state delegate equivalents” received in each precinct. That math is already complicated — quick, calculate the number of people in a voter preference group times the number of delegates to elect, divided by the total number of caucus attendees! — but there were countless obvious examples of errors on caucus night.

The first actual votes of the 2020 Presidential campaign will be cast on February 3, and tonight saw the six leading Democrats for the White House take the stage for the CNN cameras for their final debate before the Iowa caucuses.

Former New York mayor and media mogul Michael Bloomberg has announced that he is running for president, a decision that make shake up the race for the Democratic nomination.
“I believe my unique set of experiences in business, government, and philanthropy will enable me to win and lead,” Bloomberg wrote on Twitter in his announcement video.
He’ll be a centrist in a race where candidates have been under pressure to prove their progressive bonafides. In his video, a narrator says that Bloomberg will make sure that “the wealthy will pay more in taxes, and the struggling middle class will get their fair share.”

The Democratic National Committee has raised the threshold for qualification, with a deadline of Dec. 12 to show that they have reached at least 4% in four polls, or 6% in two polls in early nominating states. Ten candidates officially have qualified for next week’s Democratic debate, with Julian Castro shut out of the event for failing to meet a higher threshold.
Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Yang made the cut for Wednesday’s faceoff at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, the DNC announced Thursday.
Although the field has thinned, it is only two fewer than the 12 candidates who qualified for the October debate, a record number of contenders taking the stage at such an event.
Also not on the stage next week: Deval Patrick, who announced on Thursday his entry into the race, too late to qualify. Another potential candidate, Michael Bloomberg, is considering joining the field.
To qualify for next week’s debate, candidates had to have 3% support in at least four national or early-state polls, or 5% in at least two early-state polls.

Donald Trump marched out his same cast of sycophants last week to make the case that black voters — particularly the men — have a friend in the president with the white-nationalist policies. It’s a tired routine, but it remains fascinating that Trump and his party expend so much energy not merely insulting the intelligence of black voters but also by blocking their access to the ballot. Through their fear and sinister behavior, it appears Republicans understand the value of black and Hispanic electorates better than do the Democrats.

Former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick announced Wednesday that he will not run for president in 2020, citing the “cruelty of our elections process.” This was understandable, given that the Bain Capital managing director has a record of helping subprime lenders swindle middle class African Americans. It was odd, though, to see the Boston Globe celebrate Patrick’s decision by telling Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-ma) to join him on the sidelines.
In an editorial published Friday morning , the Globe argued that Warren “has become a divisive figure,” a quality that I thought was inherent to politics.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Unfocused like a 1970s cast-of-thousands disaster flick, and with little point beyond engaging in bland and easy propagandistic cheering. Boston deserves better. I’m “biast” (pro): have enjoyed Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg’s previous collaborations

There are likely hundreds of amazing, moving stories to be told about the 2013 bombing at the finish line of Boston’s annual marathon… and dang if Patriots Day — named after the local holiday on which the bombing occurred — doesn’t seem to want to tell all of them all at once.

Chicago – In the context of history, and the way information is consumed these days, the Boston Marathon Bombing in 2013 seems both like yesterday and a long time ago. Director Peter Berg’s “Patriots Day” is the first film account of that horrid week, and features Mark Wahlberg.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Wahlberg, along with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, are the unofficial show biz mayors of Boston, and inspired a wicked parody by Seth Meyers called “Boston Accents.” The subject matter of “Patriot Days” creates an immunity towards commentary on the Boston accents in the movie, but there are still a few moments that are reminders (seriously, download that sketch on YouTube). Michael Beach, who plays former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick in “Patriots Day,” about the Boston Marathon Bombing, sat down with TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell discuss whether the film dramatizing the 2013 terrorist attack was made too soon. “Because the world is being deluged by these terrorist acts all over, not just here in America but everywhere, I think a film like ‘Patriots Day’ helps us,” Beach said. “I really do. I know that most people I speak to when they come out of the film — there is a sense of hope, there is a sense of community and how important that is.

Go figure. Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg seem to bring out the very best in each other. Between Lone Survivor and now Patriots Day (Deepwater Horizon as well, to a lesser extent), the pair have found a niche in true life drama and heroism. This new film is their best yet, and actually one of 2016’s better works. It’s threatening to score a spot on my year end top ten list, which is something. Emotional, thrilling, and a seamless blend of history/action, this is a special movie. It deserves to find a large audience this week when it starts to hit theaters. The film is a dramatized look at the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. In short, the events leading up to the terrorist attack and its aftermath are depicted, including the city-wide manhunt to find the people behind it. The protagonist is a composite character...

After bringing us Deepwater Horizon earlier this year, director Peter Berg has teamed up once again with Mark Wahlberg for Patriots Day, which tells the riveting story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and its aftermath.
Wahlberg stars in the film as Sgt. Tommy Saunders, just one of the many Boston police and first responders on the scene. Patriots Day follows the events of the horrific tragedy and how Saunders, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (Michael Beach) and Special FBI investigator Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon) piece together the evidence and put together a city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind it: brothers Tamerlin (Themo Melikidze) and Dzhokhar (Alex Wolff) Tsarnaev.
During the recent press day for the film, we sat down with Beach and Michelle Monaghan, who plays Saunders’ wife, to talk about their riveting new project. They discussed why the timing was right to make Patriots Day,...

Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg join forces again for a film set in the aftermath of the Boston bombing, Patriots Day. Here's the trailer.
The upcoming drama Patriots Day reunites the Deepwater Horizon team of Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg, to tell a story centred around the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. It seems very close to the actual event to make a film about it, but the debut teaser trailer's solemn tone seems respectful of that.
The focus of Patriots Day? Well, Mark Wahlberg plays an everyman embarking on a seemingly mundane day at work that fatefully yields tragedy. He plays Boston police sergeant Tommy Saunders who, lamenting the indignity of some flat-footed, reflective-vest-wearing duty watching over the Boston Marathon, will find himself on the scene of an unforgettable act of terrorism.
Joining Wahlberg in the cast are Michelle Monaghan as Carol Saunders, John Goodman as Police Commissioner Ed Davis,...

Now entering the final stages of pre-production, The Wrap is reporting that Peter Berg’s Boston marathon drama Patriots’ Day has carried out what is surely the last casting spree before filming gets underway, this time adding Michael Beach, Alex Wolff and Themo Melikidze to its jam-packed ensemble.
According to the outlet, it is the latter two actors that will be playing the role of the radicalized terrorists (Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev) who brought the city of Boston to a standstill in April of 2013. Beach, on the other hand – best known for his recurring role of Pike in The 100 – is on board to portray Deval Patrick, the “governor of Massachusetts when terrorists struck the annual event in 2013.”
Since Berg and his Lone Survivor cohort Mark Wahlberg hatched Patriots’ Day, there’s been a flurry of activity surrounding the project, which quickly found a home at CBS Films and Lionsgate.

Thomas Menino, whose folksy manner and verbal gaffes belied his shrewd political tactics to govern as Boston's longest-serving mayor and one of its most beloved, died Thursday. He was 71. Spokeswoman Dot Joyce said in a statement that Menino died in the company of his family and friends. He was diagnosed with advanced cancer in February 2014, shortly after leaving office, and announced Oct. 23 he was suspending treatment and a book tour so he could spend more time with family and friends. Eric Holder will announce his intention to retire from his post as the United State’s Attorney General Thursday.
Eric Holder Stepping Down As Attorney General
Holder, who has held the post since President Barack Obama took office in 2008, will announce his decision late Thursday afternoon, a Justice Department official told Politico. Holder reportedly plans on staying on board until the president can find a suitable replacement, as one has not yet been determined.
The primary front-runner to succeed Holder is supposedly Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Patrick is scheduled to leave office at the end of this year. On Thursday, after a meeting with his cabinet, the politician is due to travel to Washington for Congressional Black Caucus events, but could also be meeting with White House officials. If not Patrick, Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, California Attorney General Kamala Harris and U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New...

Nine-year old Sean Lesniak is quite confident in his love of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. When asked if he is the No. 1 Shark Week fan, Lesniak says, without hesitation, “Yes,” and all things considered, there’s little room for doubt.
“No one loves Shark Week more than I do,” Lesniak says. “People in school call me Sharkboy because I love sharks so much.”
Lesniak is unfazed by sharks’ reputation for being scary. To him, sharks are striking creatures to be admired. “They keep our coral reefs healthy and they keep our fish population in balance,” Lesniak says. “They’re magnificent.

Tyson Beckford to strip in Chocolate City, Jonah Hill owes Channing Tatum a penis lick, Chris Colfer takes Cooper for a walk
Because we can never have enough movies about male strippers, I applaud Michael Jai White and Tyson Beckford teaming up for Chocolate City. A CNN politics panel on Monday noted that Democrats, typified by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, are concerned that the air “inevitability” surrounding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s prospective presidential campaign might work against her as it did in 2008. One panelist observed that they “do not want to see a coronation,” but there have been few Democrats willing to commit to openly challenging her.

Washington, March 9: A few days after the Supreme Judicial Court in Massachusetts issued a letter-of-the-law ruling which allowed a man accused of taking "upskirt" photos to avoid prosecution, the legislature changed the letter of the law.
Governor Deval Patrick signed the bill Friday, and made it illegal to secretly take photographs or videos under someone's clothing, Techhive reported.
The old law prohibited people living in Massachusetts from "photographing, videotaping, or electronically surveilling a nude or partially nude person."
And the "nude or partially nude" part of the description in the law was what convinced the court that the man accused of clicking an upskirt photo couldn't be penalized for the image.

After Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was arrested as a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, Massachusets Governor Deval Patrick admits he went to his rural home that day and celebrated in peace, with some drinks.
After a swim at the vacation home, he decided to go to dinner alone to read a book, the Boston Herald reports. The co-owner of the restaurant he visited, Maggie Merelle, seated him separate from other diners, allowing for a quiet meal.
"[Maggie] starts bringing me things to drink as a celebration," Patrick says, "and by the end of the meal, I was actually quite drunk, by myself."
You wouldn't have been able to tell it by looking at him, though. At least, Merelle couldn't. "He wasn't tipsy. I never would have known," she recalls. As for the dinner he had with those drinks, it sounds like a true feast. Merelle says Governor Patrick enjoyed duck confit, french fries,...
