Former Trump White House aide Peter Navarro was sent to federal prison for obstructing Congress in its investigation of the violent Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. But once Navarro is out of prison, there are a couple things the former Trump White House aide should expect if his former boss wins the election: a pardon, and a new job.
Over the past several months, Donald Trump has told some of his advisers and friends that federal clemency for Navarro, if Trump is back in office, is a “very good idea,...

Former President Donald Trump‘s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., visited former Trump adviser Peter Navarro in federal prison. Navarro faces a sentence of four months after he was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress related to the January 6 investigations.
Navarro failed to provide the necessary information, including documents and testimony, to the former January 6 House committee by evading a congressional subpoena. Navarro claimed that former President Trump had asserted executive privilege to maintain confidentiality. However, no evidence of Trump invoking the privilege was ever presented.
Navarro attempted to appeal his prison sentence twice to the U.S. Supreme Court, once to Chief Justice John Roberts and again to Justice Neil Gorsuch. Both Justices denied his requests. Later, District Judge Amit Mehta sentenced Navarro to six months in prison and a fine of $600,000.
Trump Jr. claimed he visited Navarro to show support for “a good man” who was “wrongfully convicted.

A federal appeals court has upheld the criminal contempt of Congress conviction of Steve Bannon, a former senior aide in the Trump White House.
Bannon was charged with refusing to testify and provide documents to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The appeals court rejected Bannon’s argument that he was innocent because his attorney had advised him not to comply with the House committee’s subpoena. The ruling, delivered by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, increases the likelihood that Bannon will soon have to serve a four-month jail sentence for his two counts of contempt.
Bannon may request a rehearing of his appeal by the full judicial lineup of the D.C. Circuit, which could temporarily postpone his jail term. Alternatively, he could seek permission from the U.S. Supreme Court...

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected former Trump adviser Peter Navarro‘s bid to stay out of prison while he appeals his conviction for evading a congressional subpoena.
Navarro, 74, was charged with two counts of contempt of Congress after he refused to cooperate with the House January 6 committee investigating the Capitol Riot. Navarro failed to provide documents to the committee and refused to testify. Navarro cited former President Donald Trump‘s executive privilege to maintain confidentiality. However, there is no evidence that Trump ever asserted the privilege or that it would apply in this case.
This is Navarro’s second attempt to stay out of prison. In March, Chief Justice John Roberts denied Navarro’s first request. Navarro was ordered to report to a federal prison in Miami on March 19. Navarro renewed his request to Justice Neil Gorsuch. The motion was brought to a full court for a vote. Previously,...

On Tuesday morning, Donald Trump ally and former White House aide Peter Navarro reported to prison in Miami to serve a four-month prison sentence.
The move came just hours after Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts denied his appeal of the sentence.
Navarro is the first senior aide to Trump to serve time in association with the plot to overturn the 2020 election.
“I’m pissed. That’s what I’m feeling right now,” Navarro told reporters before entering prison. “But I’m also afraid of only one thing: I’m afraid for this country because this, what they’re doing, should have a chilling effect on every American regardless of their party. They come for me, they can come for you.”

Former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro reported to prison Tuesday afternoon to serve a four-month federal sentence after being convicted on charges of contempt of Congress in January.

Peter Navarro, the former White House adviser to Donald Trump, was ordered to report to a federal prison in Miami by March 19.
Back in September 2023, Navarro was found guilty by a jury on two counts of contempt of Congress.
In January, the Justice Department sought a sentence of six months in prison for him after he was convicted of criminal contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from the congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. He was scheduled to be sentenced on January 25.
Prosecutors also wanted a $200,000 fine. In a 20-page sentencing memo, Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Aloi stated that prosecutors sought to punish the former White House aide for his bad-faith strategy.
Navarro complained that the legal costs of the case left him bankrupt.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta dismissed former Trump White House aide Peter Navarro‘s plea to avoid incarceration while he appeals his criminal conviction for defying a subpoena from the January 6 select committee.
Mehta stated that Navarro’s claim of potential success on appeal was insufficient grounds to postpone the four-month prison sentence handed down last month.
The judge rejected multiple arguments put forth by Navarro and underscored that his claims of testimonial immunity, executive privilege and other defenses lacked merit. While Navarro asserted political bias, Mehta ruled that Navarro’s claims of political bias were unfounded and lacked substance. If the ruling stands, Navarro may become the first member of Trump’s inner circle to face imprisonment for crimes connected to attempts to undermine the 2020 election.

On Thursday morning, former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for two charges of contempt of Congress following his refusal to cooperate with the congressional investigation into the January 6 Capitol riot.
The prosecution has asked U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta to deliver the sentence of six months with a fine of $600,000. Navarro’s counsel asked to have the sentence not exceed six months with a fine of $100,000.
Navarro argued that he did not have to cooperate due to former President Donald Trump‘s executive privilege rights, although Navarro never established that Trump had asserted the privilege in his case.
“The words executive privilege are not magical incantations,” Mehta said. “It’s just not, it’s not a get-out-of-jail-free card. I have a great deal of respect for your client and what he’s achieved professionally, I do. Which makes it all the more disappointing,...

Meet the Press host Chuck Todd got feisty with Republican Sen. Ron Johnson when the lawmaker accused him and the rest of the media of bias.
The confrontation began when the two were discussing classified documents recently found in President Joe Biden’s home and former office and Todd asked why Johnson was not proposing Congress wait until the Department of Justice concluded its investigation into the documents before doing congressional oversight. This prompted Johnson to go on a rambling diatribe accusing the FBI of “political wrongdoing” regarding its investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Texas Republican Louie Gohmert has been in the news a lot this week — for instance, on Thursday he fumed because Democrats criticized the Republican party’s refusal to consider gun control, and then lied about the crime rates in blue states relative to red states.

Gohmert was on Newsmax to talk about the arrest of ex-Donald Trump adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of congress. Navarro had refused to comply with a congressional subpoena to testify in front of the Jan. 6 commission and well, refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena is actually a crime.

“We urge our colleagues to comply with the law, do their patriotic duty, and cooperate with our investigation as hundreds of other witnesses have done,” he said. The letter to McCarthy is here.
McCarthy was in communication with then-President Donald Trump before, during and after the siege, the committee noted. McCarthy also “claimed to have had a discussion with the President in the immediate aftermath of the attack during which President Trump admitted some culpability for the attack.”
The committee is planning to start a series of public hearings on...

The House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to hold Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with subpoenas issued by the Jan. 6 committee.
The resolution passed 220-203, with two Republicans joining Democrats in voting to refer the two Trump aides to the Justice Department for contempt charges.
The Jan. 6 committee voted unanimously last week to refer the matter to the House. “They’re not fooling anybody,” Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said at the time. “They are obligated to comply with our investigation. They have refused to do so.

We learned last month that the Jan. 6 committee found gaps in the White House call logs on the day of the Capitol riot, as well as that those gaps include times the committee knows former President Trump was on the phone. We learned on Tuesday that those “gaps” were more like one huge gap that spans … just about the entire day.
The Washington Post and CBS News have reported that the logs turned over to the committee show a gap in Trump’s phone logs that spans seven hours and thirty-seven minutes,...

The Jan. 6 committee recently got its hands on a draft executive order instructing the National Guard to seize voting machines following the 2020 election, but it hasn’t been clear who wrote the order or to what extent former President Trump was involved in the scheme. The New York Times reported Monday night that Trump was very much involved, and that he personally pushed to see if the voting machines in swing states could be seized on multiple occasions.

When the 2020 election didn’t go Trump’s way, Peter Navarro did something dangerous. He began to do his own research.
Navarro, an economist whom Donald Trump tapped to lead his trade war against China, didn’t stay in his lane at the White House. He’d already inserted himself in the administration’s botched pandemic response, pushing the unproven hypothesis that Covid-19 escaped from a Wuhan lab. And after the 2020 vote, Navarro began compiling a series of inflammatory dossiers on the outcome — with names like “The Immaculate Deception,” “The Art of the Steal,...

For most patriotic Americans, Jan. 6 represents a day of national shame and terror at what could have been the end of our democracy. But when former Trump economic adviser Peter Navarro reflects on that day, what he dwells on is that he doesn’t get nearly enough credit.
Navarro recently published a memoir, and is now pushing out interviews to reporters, bragging of a scheme he dreamed up with former Trump adviser Steve Bannon to overturn the results of the 2020 election. They even had a cringey name for it: the Green Bay Sweep.

A number of Jewish groups condemned Fox Nation host Lara Logan for comments she made comparing Dr. Anthony Fauci to Dr. Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor who performed cruel medical experiments on Jewish prisoners.
“This is what people say to me, that he doesn’t represent science to them,” Logan said during an appearance on Monday on Fox News Primetime. “He represents Josef Mengele. the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the Second World War and in the concentration camps. And I am talking about people all across the world are saying this because the response from Covid, what it has done to countries everywhere, what it has done to civil liberties, the suicide rates, the poverty. It has obliterated economies. The level of suffering that has been created because of this disease is now being seen in the cold light of day, i.e. the truth.”

Tucker parroted the debunked conspiracy theory that Fauci started the coronavirus pandemic
Conspiracy theories are now a regular fixture on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” it seems.
During Monday’s episode, he talked at length about a debunked, fringe conspiracy theory that Dr. Anthony Fauci funded a Chinese lab that created the coronavirus and then purposefully released it to the public. And citing this false information, he basically demanded that federal law enforcement officials investigate Fauci.
Before we get into what Tucker said — and as much as it pains us to state something this obvious, it seems we have to — let’s be clear that there is absolutely no evidence that Fauci — director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical advisor to President Biden — had any involvement in the “creation” of the pandemic. These theories that the U.S. government had a hand in engineering the coronavirus have actually been repeatedly debunked.

Dr. Fauci defended himself against the relentless attacks he has received from those on the right, calling one of the claims flat out “bizarre.”
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was asked by Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, about the recent wild and untrue remarks from Trump’s former economic adviser Peter Navarro, who claims the doctor is a “sociopath,” a “liar” and the “father of the actual virus.”
“I call it the Fauci virus,” the seemingly always unhinged Trump sycophant said earlier this week.

Washington, Dec 8 (Ians) The US Office of Special Counsel (Osc) has accused White House trade adviser Peter Navarro of having violating the Hatch Act and urged President Donald Trump to take "appropriate disciplinary action", such as a fine or removal from office, the media reported.
The Hatch Act, a US federal law enacted in 1939, prohibits federal executive branch employees from using their official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election, Xinhua news agency reported.
Under the relevant statute, the punishments for a Hatch Act violation can include removal from office, a reduction in grade, debarment from federal employment for up to five years, suspension or reprimand.
In a report to Trump on Monday, the Osc said: "From May 26 through October 19, 2020, during at least six media interviews where he appeared in his official capacity as Assistant to the President and Director of...

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has continuously violated the Hatch Act, and on Monday the Office of Special Counsel called on President Trump to take “appropriate disciplinary action.”
In the filing, the government watchdog said Navarro broke the law that forbids government employees from engaging in political activities. The report cited several broadcast interviews and social media posts in which Trump’s trade advisor flaunted the legal restriction.

A seemingly already triggered Peter Navarro approached a gaggle of media reporters on Friday morning and proceeded to rant for over 10 uninterrupted minutes. Following his opening filibuster, Navarro took a couple of questions and then whined about the media’s coverage of President Trump before storming off in a huff.
Things got heated when reporters dared to ask the White House trade adviser about why only a few convention-goers wore masks and did not practice social distancing during Trump’s acceptance speech on Thursday night.

Donald Trump again held a press briefing focused on the coronavirus crisis, and he again went solo: No Vice President Mike Pence, who is leading the White House task force on the pandemic, and no medical experts.
Asked by CNN’s Kaitlin Collins on Wednesday why they were not present, Trump said, “They are briefing me. I am meeting them. I just spoke to Dr. [Anthony] Fauci. Dr. [Deborah] Birx is right outside. And they are giving me everything they know as of this point in time and I am giving the information to you, and it seems to be a very concise way of doing it. It seems to be working out very well.”

This week a photographer captured an image in the White House briefing room that quickly got the attention of the press corps: Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s file folder, in which she had neatly arranged possible topics as she faced reporters from the lectern.
Along with “golf,” “Barack Obama,” “BLM” and a number entries related to the coronavirus, there was “Karl.” That apparently was a reference to Jonathan Karl, ABC News’ chief White House correspondent who is completing a year-long term as president of the White House Correspondents’ Association.
That he was singled out is not altogether surprising: In a Washington Post op-ed last week, Karl wrote that McEnany’s briefings, the most visible part of her job, have turned into something resembling a campaign infomercial.
“Denying reality and using the White House podium for purely political purposes is a violation of public trust,” he wrote, adding that they “routinely...

Anthony Fauci may have been sidelined from TV interviews but he’s still doing online conversations along with print pieces, such as an online cover story for InStyle.
On Thursday, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who has become the star expert during the coronavirus pandemic, spoke to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for a livestream interview that lasted nearly an hour.
It was Zuckerberg, though, who criticized the government’s response to the coronavirus crisis, as he referred to efforts by some in the Trump administration to undermine scientific guidance and Fauci himself.
“You might be quite generous in your description of the government’s response here. I was certainly sympathetic early on when it was clear that there would be some outbreaks, no matter how well we handle this,” Zuckerberg told Fauci. “Now that we are here in July, I just think that it...

Donald Trump defended his retweet this week of Chuck Woolery’s claim that Centers for Disease Control officials and others are “lying” about the coronavirus.
CBS News Catherine Herridge asked Trump, “You reposted a tweet yesterday saying that CDC and health officials are lying. You understand this is confusing for the public. So who do they believe? You, or the medical professionals like Dr. Fauci?”
“I didn’t make a comment,” Trump told Herridge. “I did. I reposted a tweet that a lot of people feel. But all I am doing is making a comment. I’m just putting somebody’s voice out there. There are many voices. There are many people that think we shouldn’t do this kind of testing, because all we do, it’s a trap.”
Portions of the interview aired on CBS This Morning on Wednesday and CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell on Tuesday.

In an obvious attempt to deflect blame from President Trump’s dismal handling of the coronavirus pandemic in America, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro went on an extended rant on Friday, tossing out unproven conspiracy theories as if he were holding court in a QAnon forum.
Navarro, a now-infamous, bomb-throwing advocate of Trump’s more than suggested that China was somehow able to “weaponize” the virus to kill Americans, while at the same time allowing many other countries to contain the spread.
China “spawned the virus,” Navarro said. “They hid the virus.
