Drew Barrymore is an American sweetheart. The actress has been working in front of the camera since she was a child, having made her debut with Altered States in 1980. And two years later, Barrymore found her breakthrough in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Then in the ’90s and 2000s, she became the rom-com queen with hit after hits, especially because of her chemistry with Adam Sandler.
Drew Barrymore | The Drew Barrymore Show
But did you know that there was a time when Drew Barrymore was considered to be ugly? Her production company, Flower Films’ first movie started Barrymore in the lead in a movie titled Never Been Kissed (1999). The rom-com went on to become a hit and opened a new door of adventures for the actress. But while the movie was being filmed, Barrymore had to go through some issues before she could come out on top.

When asking viewers to list the qualities that best characterize a Zack Snyder film, ‘slow motion’ is probably going to be mentioned nine times out of ten. Rebel Moon, his 2023 American epic space opera flick, is probably well-known to those who enjoy visually stunning stories and epic action sequences. In addition, if you have watched the movie, you might have noticed the unusual use of ‘slow motion’.
Naturally, the renowned filmmaker is well aware of that, and during an interview with Wired, he discussed why and how he approaches those kinds of scenes and the kinds of rules he sets for himself and his team while filming.

Additionally, when asked why Rebel Moon uses slow motion so much, the 300 director gave an “obvious” yet insightful response, stating that the slow motion is “awesome”.

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

Probably the most popular manga right now, One Piece by Eiichiro Oda has been delivering great chapters one after another. The story has taken a new turn as the events of the first arc in the finale saga, Egghead Island arc unfolds. The Straw Hat Pirates have reached one step closer to their dream.
Egghead Island Arc – One Piece
However, it is more challenging than One Piece fans thought. The Straw Hat crew, especially their captain Monkey D. Luffy is currently battling the Five Elders, with the help of the Giants Dorry and Brogy, who were introduced in the Little Garden arc. However, even with the help of the giants, Luffy has yet to be able to inflict much damage on the strongest power in the World Government.

It is that time of the year again when actors, actresses, directors, and the entire Hollywood compete against each other in The Oscars. From Jennifer Lawrence to Emma Stone, from Leonardo DiCaprio to Robert Downey Jr., the Oscars are quite a remarkable event.
Talking about Jennifer Lawrence, the actress has been somewhat underrated as a serious movie star. Winning an Oscar at the young age of 22, Lawrence holds a record that still remains unbeaten, even after 12 years.

John Cena certainly isn't the first wrestler to become a movie star. Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, and Andre the Giant brought their muscles to the big screen decades ago. The late '90s and early 2000s saw Bill Goldberg and Dwayne Johnson enter the fray, with the latter becoming one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and he's still going strong. But it wouldn't be until the likes of Dave Bautista and John Cena that we'd get a pair of wrestlers who truly stepped into the world of acting without relying mostly on their muscular presence to do the heavy lifting on the big screen for them, both literally and figuratively.
Dave Bautista has proven to be a reliable supporting star in the superhero blockbuster franchise "Guardians of the Galaxy," but he's also delivered more haunting turns in the likes of "Blade Runner 2049," "Dune," and M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin.

Kevin James is not exactly a name that comes to mind when one thinks of the phrase "movie star." People of a certain age probably picture the lovable everyman Doug Heffernan from his long-running sitcom "The King of Queens," but a great many others will probably think of two words: Paul Blart. Bruce Willis Net Worth (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Bruce Willis is grabbing headlines these days, thanks to the Christmas season and his classic film Die Hard. The debate about whether the action film is a Christmas holiday film has already been discussed a zillion times, but now the superstar has himself ended the debate.
The film was released in the summer of 1988, and despite being an action film, it motivated the audience to enjoy it as a Christmas classic since the film dealt with a plot that unfolds on Christmas Eve.
During a recent conversation, Peter Billingsley, the actor from ‘A Christmas Story,’ tried convincing the cinematographer of Die Hard that the film was a Christmas film. However, years ago, during a debate, Bruce Willis ended the debate by saying it is not a Christmas film but is goddamn a Bruce Willis film!

The After hit Netflix back in October and in truth, I’d missed the boat on watching it but yesterday we got an email from the PR promoting the film asking if we’d like to do one last interview before we shut up shop for Christmas. None of our legendary interviewer pool were available and I’ve not done a junket in about 6 years but for some reason, I was really intrigued to take it on, and I’m so glad I did.
The After is a 16-minute short film directed by Misan Harriman, a name more synonymous with stills photography. Misan was the first Black photographer to shoot the September cover of British Vogue, with commissions including royal, private, and high-profile portraiture, with subjects including Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Angelina Jolie, Jay-Z, Tom Cruise, the list goes on.

Netflix’s slate for November 2023 has much to offer as the transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving and eventually Christmas begins. Many favorite movies such as Jennifer Garner’s “13 Going on 30” and “The Big Lebowski” arrive Nov. 1, while Garner’s new movie “The Family Switch” rounds out the month when it arrives on the streamer Nov. 30. Other can’t-miss film arrivals on November first include “Whiplash,” “Sixteen Candles,” “The Social Network” and “Pitch Perfect.”
Several new seasons of Netflix shows arrive this month as well, the most highly anticipated of which might be “The Crown” Season 6 Part 1. The "Die Hard" movies run the gamut from great to dire, but even the worst of the bunch can't undermine the franchise's standing as one of the all-time best action sagas in cinema history. The original "Die Hard" has influenced countless filmmakers and inspired untold "Die Hard" knock-offs. Which is ok because, as star Bruce Willis told Entertainment Weekly, "If I was going to make an action movie today and I hadn't done 'Die Hard,' I would totally rip it off."
But even if the likes of "Speed" or "Air Force One" never existed, 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios following the Disney-Fox acquisition) arguably ripped off "Die Hard" enough by itself. The first film became a surprise hit when it arrived in the summer of 1988, and naturally, Hollywood decided John McClane needed the full franchise treatment. The brand-new Lebanese Netflix original Hard Broken is all about good looks and drama. There is nothing in the screenplay that has made the show interesting or engaging so far. It is a tale of a murder and the investigation that followed, which allowed the police to dig deep into the relationship the victim shared with her family and friends.
Season one had Adam and Lana reveal their role in murdering Yasmine. They also frame Dr. Youseff for crossing the line by having an affair with Yasmine, his colleague and business partner. Yasmine was married to Adam, while Lana is still married to Dr. Youseff. The two of them were deeply affected by their partners’ actions, which made them take such drastic steps. Lana and Adam think they carried out a perfect crime that will never be traced back to them because there was no witness to Yasmine’s murder except Adam.

The Blacklist — Pictured: Harry Lennix as Harold Cooper — (Photo by: Will Hart/NBC) Harry Lennix is one of the few cast members of The Blacklist to have been a series regular from the very start, along with James Spader and Diego Klattenhoff. Now that the show has wrapped — it will end with a two-hour series finale next week — it’s been a big change for Lennix. After all, prior to The Blacklist his longest-running job had been the two-season, 26-episode run of Dollhouse. But The Blacklist, of course, has run for 10 seasons and ultimately produced 218 episodes. And that longevity, Lennix told us, plays a big part in why he will miss this show differently than any other job he’s had. (Click on the media bar below to hear Harry Lennix) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/henry_lenixx_The_Blacklisyt_.mp3 The Blacklist airs Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC,...

Die Hard is an unquestioned action masterpiece. Thanks to revelatory performances by both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman, plus John McTiernan’s assured direction, Die Hard still has the power to awe and entertain even decades after its release. Few can say the same about the sequels, but what about the Die Hard prequel, The Detective?
Oh, you’ve never heard of a Die Hard prequel? Well, that could be because the 1968 Frank Sinatra vehicle The Detective is based on the 1966 novel by the same name, written by Roderick Thorp. And in 1979, Thorp published a sequel to The Detective called Nothing Lasts Forever, in which criminals led by a man called Gruber take control of a Los Angeles high-rise during a company party. Gruber even holds hostage the family member of a hero cop who must go rogue upstairs if he is going to thwart the terrorists. Also it’s Christmas time.

Last week’s new release “No Hard Feelings” has already stirred up some tough emotions for its audience — and not about the so-called “raunchy” and “offensive” comedy at the center of the Jennifer Lawrence-led feature. Instead — and predictably enough — the media narrative has centered on what is missing from the movie…namely, all of Lawrence’s clothes in a scene that sees skinny-dipping turned into a brawl.
Why, in 2023, do audiences still care so much? Both Lawrence’s agency as an actress and producer, as well as her choice to be naked, are undermined by questioning the merits of going full frontal, and sadly, that’s what much of the criticism surrounding “No Hard Feelings” is focused on.
In the film, Lawrence portrays down-on-her-luck Uber driver/bartender Maddie, who struggles to live in the wealthy beach town of Montauk after rapid gentrification. Maddie answers a Craigslist ad from a...

Chernin Entertainment has landed the rights to the latest novel from Matthew Quirk, the author behind the book that was adapted into popular Netflix series The Night Agent.
Inside Threat, which was published this week by William Morrow, takes place after an attack on the White House, and as the synopsis for the book reads: “The President and his top aides take shelter in a top-secret government facility buried deep underground—but they soon discover the threat is locked inside with them.”
Said Quirk, “It’s my go at a Die Hard or Seven Days in May plot with an Agatha Christie-style locked room mystery thrown in. I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with everyone at Chernin Entertainment and can’t wait to see these characters on the big screen.”

Guns N’ Roses have been gradually rolling out re-tooled versions of previously unreleased songs, and another new (old) song might be making its way into the band’s setlist in the near future.
Ahead of Guns N’ Roses’ show Monday night (June 5th) in Tel Aviv, Israel, the band soundchecked what appears to be the shelved Chinese Democracy-era song “Perhaps.” Astute fans who stood outside the venue during soundcheck were quick to bust out their phones and record the rehearsal — with Setlist.fm even noting that the band performed the song during the soundcheck.
Like Gn’R’s 2021 single “Hard Skool,” the song hails from the infamously lengthy writing/recording process for Chinese Democracy. And like many of those tunes, a rough demo version has been leaked and uploaded to YouTube (triggering debate between fans about whether Robin Finck or Queen’s Brian May played guitar on that particular recording...

With seventeen albums and mixtapes to his name, Moneybagg Yo has long established himself as one of the true pillars of modern-day Memphis hip hop. The rapper took a hiatus of sorts after the release of his excellent 2021 Gangsta’s Pain, a highly polished yet soulful effort that deepened his gruff, loner persona on relatable and explosive hits such as the ultra-fun revenge anthem “Time Today,” Now, he’s back with a vengeance on one of his most personal offerings to date, Hard to Love.

On Stevie Nicks’ debut solo album, Bella Donna, she turned a Tom Petty song into a hit duet. Nicks’ version of the song sounded little like Petty’s, and he felt a bit betrayed when he heard it. Several years later, though, he had a chance to get back at her. When Nicks struggled to record a song, Petty stepped in and took it. She was disappointed, but she understood.

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, it's time to take a look at the bone-crunching brutality of the extended hallway sequence in Gareth Evans' "The Raid: Redemption.")
There has never been one "right" way to film action. Hong Kong cinema has obviously made its mark on multiple generations of directors and 1980s filmmaking may have popularized the musclebound, quasi-superhero lead who can take even more punishment than they dish out. (Don't worry, we will absolutely get around to "Die Hard" in this column at some point.) In more recent vintage, you have the frenetic, shaky-cam chaos of the "Bourne" movies that somehow managed to coexist along with the almost balletic precision of "John Wick."

On Thursday, former first lady Michelle Obama told Gayle King on CBS Mornings that she opens up about her marriage struggles “because marriage is hard.”
She continued, saying that partnership is often romanticized and it’s up to people with successful ones to be honest about the commitment and compromise required.

Last year, Michelle said that she “couldn’t stand” her husband, former President Barack Obama, when their children, Malia and Sasha, were young.
“A lot of young people quit on marriage over things that are just a part of the commitment,” she said. “We’ve been married for 30 years. If I fell out with him for 10, and we had a great 20 years, I’d take those odds anytime.”
She also said her kids complicated her relationship with her husband even further, explaining that Malia and Sasha, now 24 and 21, were “way more blessed” than she was growing up.

You would have a hard time defending the limp plotting, the bland action-adventure set pieces or the Agatha Christie-light whodunit twists of the first “Murder Mystery.” And, yet, it was kind of good.
“Murder Mystery,” one of Netflix’s most-streamed films, was chock full of exotic settings and mysterious murders. But the only thing that mattered, really, was the banter between Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. Though “Murder Mystery” could be said to epitomize that very modern kind of passive and painless viewing experience on streaming platforms, their married couple was a throwback to a long-ago movie era. Audrey and Nick Spitz, a pair of working-class New Yorkers turned semi-amateur detectives, might as well be Nick and Nora Charles, the 1930s cocktail-swilling crime solvers.
“Murder Mystery” and its new sequel don’t have anywhere near the sparkle of the “The Thin Man” movies, with William Powell, Myrna Loy and their wire fox terrier Asta.

Ever since letter-writing campaigns got the original "Star Trek" a third season, science fiction fans have beat the drum for their favorite shows that got prematurely canceled. Sometimes it works: "Jericho" got a second season thanks to fans mailing bags of nuts to the studio. Other times it doesn't: "Firefly" fans managed to get a movie, but never the revived series they wanted. Honestly, that's probably for the best given what we now know about Joss Whedon and Adam Baldwin.
While we don't hold out a lot of actual hope for the shows below to come back, this article highlights sci-fi series from the last several decades that should have run longer, either because they ended poorly/awkwardly or just because they were way too short. Where possible, because we're nothing if not constructive, suggestions are included as to how a continuation today might go. Here are 12 canceled sci-fi shows that deserve a second chance.

Ready to get weird?
“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” a pseudo-biopic of the master accordion player/parodist “Weird Al” Yankovic is nearly upon us, and the first teaser trailer is here to give us an idea of the tone/vibe of the new film coming to this fall. You can watch it above.
The movie stars Daniel Radcliffe, recently seen hamming it up in “The Lost City,” as Yankovic. “Weird” was co-written and produced by Yankovic, so you can understand that if the story ever veers too far into “musical biopic” territory, it quickly takes a left turn into sublime silliness. The closest comparison is probably “Walk Hard,” only this time it’s based on an actual person’s life.
During a Roku presentation at NewFronts earlier today, Radcliffe described the experience of making “Weird” as “genuinely one of the most fun things I’ve ever gotten to do in my life.

Just one day after releasing her third studio album, "Familia," Camila Cabello appeared on "Saturday Night Live" to treat fans to not just one, but two performances of songs off her new album. While her performance of "Bam Bam" was terrific, we were not prepared for just how hard Cabello and Willow Smith rocked out on their debut live performance of their collab, "Psychofreak." From their futuristic ensembles to Smith's haunting vocals, the second song of the evening was a true event.
Cabello made her first "SNL" appearance in October 2019, but this marked Smith's first time on the show. After her performance, the 21-year-old shared just how excited she was to make her debut via her Instagram. "!!My Heart Is Overflowing With Gratitude!! Thank You @camilacabello and @nbcsnl for having me!!" she wrote alongside a video clip from the episode.

The Movie: "Hard Ticket to Hawaii"
Where You Can Stream It: Tubi
The Pitch: "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" may be nothing less than the best B-movie ever made. It is the "Die Hard" of schlock and the "Bicycle Thieves" of gratuitous nudity. Imagine Ingmar Bergman's "Cries and Whispers," but Harriet Andersson and Ingrid Thulin are played by Playboy centerfold models, Liv Ullmann is a hunky dumb jock who can't shoot straight, they're actually spies on the island of...

When it comes to touring, Tove Styrke has been indie-pop royalty’s secret weapon. She provided the perfect prelude for Lorde on her massive Melodrama tour in 2018, and just wrapped as an opener for Marina. But it’s Tove’s time now. And you should say her name right, too. It’s Too-vah Steer-kah.
Zooming from her cozy Stockholm bedroom, Styrke reveals to Rolling Stone that her upcoming project, Hard, out June 3, is likely the rawest she’s ever been. “Every artist says that but it’s true,” she says...
