The original Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film series cast is the cast that we will associate with some of the most popular Marvel characters in years to come. If you think about Storm it’s impossible not to conjure up images of Halle Berry, or associate Patric Stewart with Charles Xavier.
Famke Janssen, the actress behind the iconic Jean Grey portrayal is still the best live-action Jean Grey, despite Sophia Turner also portraying the character in the latter installments.
With ‘Deadpool 3’ release looming on the horizon and all the various rumors associated with former X-Men characters making a big comeback for Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, it’s impossible not to wonder whether Famke will make an appearance as Jean Grey as well.
The actress herself commented on the rumors in her interview with Screengeek.

The original cast of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ films will forever be linked with some of Marvel’s most beloved characters. When you think of Storm, Halle Berry immediately comes to mind, and Patrick Stewart is synonymous with Charles Xavier. Famke Janssen, who played the iconic Jean Grey, remains the definitive live-action portrayal, even though Sophie Turner took on the role in later films.
As the release of ‘Deadpool 3’ approaches and rumors swirl about former X-Men characters returning for Deadpool’s MCU debut, fans can’t help but speculate if Famke will reprise her role as Jean Grey too.
The actress herself commented on the rumors in her interview with Screengeek.

Looking from the outside, one might assume that Famke Janssen had the best time of her life in the late 90s and early 2000s. But as she reminded readers of The Independent recently, looks can be deceiving.
Born in the Netherlands, Janssen modeled throughout the 80s but began acting in the early 1990s, scoring roles alongside Jeff Goldblum in the film Fathers and Sons, and on Star Trek: The Next Generation (which led to her being considered for the role of Jadzia Dax on Deep Space Nine). Her big break came as the villainous Xenia Onatopp in 1995’s GoldenEye, playing an assassin who crushes victims between her thighs. In 2000, Janssen appeared as Jean Grey in X-Men, a role she reprised in three more films.
What appeared to be a meteoric rise to glamour was for Janssen a burden. “After GoldenEye I felt like I was thrown to the wolves,” she revealed.

Fame really is in the eye of the beholder.
“GoldenEye” breakout Famke Janssen reflected on her tenuous experience with the press after her skyrocket to celebrity in 1995, starring alongside Pierce Brosnan in the now-iconic James Bond film.
“The Bond movie dictated a lot of my relationship with the press,” Janssen told The Independent. “Honestly, after ‘GoldenEye,’ I felt like I was thrown to the wolves. It was just an onslaught of attention, good and bad and everything in between. I realize every actor in the world thinks they can control the press, but ultimately the press always wins.”
Janssen continued, “I already had to deal with the stereotype of having been a model, but then I added another thing: model turned actress turned Bond Girl. I feel incredibly misunderstood at times. It’s the dichotomy between the way I look and what is happening inside. But that comes with being...

Sophie Turner admits that her Game Of Thrones work paved the way to her becoming the X-Men's latest Jean Grey...
Bryan Singer confirmed the addition of several new faces to the cast for X-Men: Apocalypse a week or so back. And one of those was Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner, who's going to be taking on the role of Jean Grey in the new X-Men movie.
Turner has been chatting about her casting, and how she thinks it ties back to her Game Of Thrones work. "I think maybe one of the reasons they chose me is because they saw the dark side of Sansa", she admitted to IGN.
"I definitely see a lot of parallels in there", she continued, noting that Jean Grey "struggles with her power" and "not being accepted in the human world". That's something she thinks Sansa in Game Of Thrones could relate to as well.

In 2013, the country responded to the provocative concept that on one night every year, any and all crime is made legal. Audiences turned The Purge into a surprise summer hit as the film debuted at No. 1 with an astonishing $34.1 million weekend at the domestic box office.
After witnessing the response to the film and listening to the conversations that it provoked, James DeMonaco (writer/director of The Purge and writer of The Negotiator, Assault on Precinct 13) quickly returned to the explosive universe that he created with an even more arresting idea for a sequel: placing the audience outside on the streets during the annual Purge.
A speculative thriller that shows us what occurs during The Purge outside of the confines of a suburban neighborhood, The Purge: Anarchy returns us to a dystopic future. Our government, now re-engineered by the New Founders of America (Nfa), has sanctioned its annual 12-hour...

Check out the official trailer for Amma Asante’s Belle starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Reid, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson, Tom Felton, Miranda Richardson and Matthew Goode.
Scheduled for a May 2014 release, the film was shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival to positive reviews.
Justin Chang (Variety): “The pleasures of Jane Austen and the horrors of the British slave trade make a surprisingly elegant fit in Amma Asante’s handsome period piece.” John Oursler (Sound on Sight): “Amma Asante’s Belle, a new entrant in the genre, strikes all the right notes.” John DeFore (The Hollywood Reporter): “Moviegoers should respond well when Fox Searchlight brings it to theaters next spring.”
I can’t wait to see this. Being a fan of period-piece dramas, Belle looks to be the perfect blend of courage, love and history.

Ever since her major breakthrough as infamous Bond villain Xenia Onatopp, Famke Janssen has remained a constant presence in the world of geekdom. Yet despite roles in such high profile blockbusters as the superb GoldenEye and the mostly great X-Men franchise, she’s managed to avoid typecasting and continues to mix mainstream movie hits with both TV and independent features.

It put the great Famke Janssen firmly on my radar and I’ve remained a fan of her work ever since, through the underappreciated fun of schlock-fest Deep Rising, the duality of her Miss Burke in The Faculty, to...

Bringing up Bobby gets its DVD release in the UK this week, and it marks the directorial debut of Dutch actress Famke Janssen. The film tells the story of Olive (Milla Jovovich), a Ukranian con artist who moves to Oklahoma with her 10 year old son Bobby (Spencer List) in a bid to escape her murky past.
What Culture caught up with the former James Bond villain – who also wrote and produced the film – to discuss the excitement of helming her first feature, and much more.
It took almost five years to get Bringing up Bobby off the ground, but Janssen ensured that the time was well spent. She explains;
“During that time I really got to think through the script and how I wanted to shoot it, what I wanted to do in terms of casting, location…It gave me a head start in a way that I wouldn’t...

★★★☆☆ Feature films from directors who attempt the crossover from acting can often be terribly hit and miss. It doesn't always follow that because you know how it works in front of the camera, you can automatically transfer the skills to the other side. As a result, Bringing Up Bobby (2011) - the directorial debut of Dutch actress Famke Janssen starring Milla Jovovich - is a refreshing surprise, and far more accomplished than you might expect. Olive (Jovovich) is a small time con-artist from Eastern Europe. In an effort to start anew she has come to America to find a better life for her and her young son Bobby (newcomer Spencer List).
Unfortunately, it's difficult for a leopard to change its spots and Olive's shady past eventually catches up with her, with devastating consequences for her and Bobby. There are several surprising elements to Bringing Up Bobby - such as its competent...

What Culture caught up with Famke Janssen to discuss her directorial debut Bringing Up Bobby, but of course talk also turned to her involvement with the X-Men movie franchise -- 3 films of which she has played mutant telepath Jean Grey in. The actress was asked about a possible appearance in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past but remained tight lipped, instead revealing her admiration for the films and the cast they attract. “I think that the X-Men series is a really successful one in constantly finding new and additional characters, or younger versions of the same characters to explore. Like most, I first fell for Famke Jansen as the bone and ball busting Xenia Onatopp in 1995's GoldenEye. Since then, it's been endlessly exciting watching the leggy brunette cut a swath through Hollywood in a wide variety of films. But her genre work (from The Faculty to the X-Men series) has been the most exhilarating, which is why I'm doubly excited for her turn in the Netflix original, Hemlock Grove.

Famke Janssen first big break was winning the role of villainess Bond Girl, Xenia Onatopp, 1995's Goldeneye alongside Pierce Brosnan, who was making his debut as James Bond. From there, she has gone on to carve out a nice little career for herself, best known as the psychic mutant Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix in the X-Men franchise. She even made her directorial debut in 2011 with Bringing Up Bobby. But up next she will be playing, Muriel, an evil sorceress being hunted by Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia) in Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters. The A.V. Club caught up with the actress and asked her if there were positives to wearing extensive facial prosthetics for the part. Fj: Yes, I suppose, although what I found to be the most challenging part about it is that I didn’t have the freedom I normally felt as an actor.

It's a pretty slow week for DVD and Blu-ray releases, which is somewhat surprising given that Black Friday is just a few days away and the holiday shopping season is about to get underway. The only major new release hitting store shelves today is The Expendables 2, which could make a perfect gift for the action movie addict in your life. Aside from that, however, new releases are essentially limited to the indie superhero comedy Alter Egos, Famke Janssen's Bringing Up Bobby starring Milla Jovovich, and Bruce McDonald's strange pseudo-sequel Hard Core Logo 2, which fortunately comes packaged with the original Hard Core Logo on Blu-ray. Catalog titles hitting Blu-ray for the first time include a newly restored version of Michael Cimino's infamous Heaven's Gate, Isao Takahata's anime classic Grave of the Fireflies, and the Tarantino Xx box set. Will you be buying or renting anything this week?...

Adding to exciting speculation about which X-Men actors might reappear in the franchise, Famke Janssen has intimated that her return is a possibility.
Janssen played Jean Grey who, after a self-sacrifice at the end of X2, came back as as the all-powerful Phoenix and allowed herself to be killed in X-Men: The Last Stand. The comic book version of the character has been resurrected many times, much like the mythical bird after which she is named.
And with the next film, X-Men: Days of Future Past, based on a time-spanning comic book story that alters the past to prevent a terrible future, the chances of many of the original cast reprising their roles are higher than ever.
Janssen was asked by MTV if she was coming back and responded: "One never knows. Jean Grey, the Phoenix... she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows."

20th Century Fox is developing a sequel to "X-Men: First Class," which will feature time-traveling at the center of its story. Because of that, Patrick Stewart was recently asked if there's a chance he may reprise the role of Professor X in any upcoming "X-Men" films. "I think there is every possibility," he said. "Yes, I'll be reprising [the role of Professor X]." MTV News now sat down with Famke Janssen, who's promoting her directorial debut "Bringing Up Bobby," and asked her about she may return for the "First Class" sequel, called "X-Men: Days of Future Past." She said that she cannot say anything, but hinted: "One never knows. Jean Grey, the Phoenix... she finds a way to reincarnate herself constantly, so one never knows. Stay tuned." This Friday, Famke Janssen returns in the Liam Neeson-led hostage thriller "Taken 2." In the first movie, she didn't have much to work with, as the storyline mainly revolved around Neeson's character looking to save his daughter (played by Maggie Grace) Thankfully, she has much more to do in the sequel. Not only does she get (Spoiler Alert!) taken, she also gets to develop a romantic relationship with Neeson after her current marriage dissolves. We got to talk to Janssen, who is also launching her first feature as a writer/director/producer in "Bringing Up Bobby" (out now in limited release), about "Taken 2," her role as Jean Grey in the "X-Men" movies and what shape her career will take moving forward. Also, if you ever run into the statuesque beauty, do not bring up the fact that she was a Bond Girl (as Xenia Onatopp in 1995's "Goldeneye"). She really doesn't like that.

Patrick Stewart has been surprisingly forthcoming about his possible return to the "X-Men" film series, recently telling a crowd at the Montreal Comic Convention that "there is every possibility" of his return to the role of Professor Charles Xavier.
But what about some of the other actors from the original era of "X-Men" movies? What about one particular character who has a knack for never staying dead — someone like Jean Grey, for instance?
MTV News recently sat down with Famke Janssen (who played the fiery-haired telepath in the first three "X-Men" films) to chat about her directorial debut "Bringing up Bobby," and we asked if she might have a role to play in the announced sequel to "X-Men: First Class," provocatively titled "Days of Future Past." Like Stewart, Janssen appears open to a return to the "X-Men" series, even if she's considerably tighter-lipped about the topic.
"One never knows," she said coyly.

Famke Janssen is most well-known for her roles as a femme fatale in Peirce Brosnan's first movie as 007, "GoldenEye," as Jean Grey in the "X-Men" movies, and as Liam Neeson's wife in "Taken," but most recently, she's turned her sights toward writing and directing, something she's been passionate about for 15 years.

It's been a pretty slow September as far as movies are concerned with Resident Evil: Retribution being the only movie to crack $20 million in its opening weekend. This week we have a couple of potential heavy hitters entering theatres, although neither are necessarily a sure thing. Rian Johnson's sci-fi action flick Looper has been getting a pretty big marketing push over the past few weeks and could end up being a decent-sized hit, but it will have to go through the CG-animated comedy Hotel Transylvania featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Andy Samberg. The other new movie in wide release is the Oscar bait-y drama Won't Back Down starring Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal. In select theatres we also have the musical high school comedy Pitch Perfect, the upside-down crime thriller Headshot and Solomon Kane starring James Purefoy. What will you be watching this weekend?...

It isn’t easy to write, direct and produce your first feature, even if you’ve got dozens of acting credits to your name like Famke Janssen. The desire to get behind the lens has always been there, it was just a matter of the stars aligning and in the case of “Bringing Up Bobby,” they did. The film stars Milla Jovovich as Olive, a single mother from the Ukraine trying to raise her son, Bobby (Spencer List), in a conservative Oklahoma town. She’s got the best intentions, but her con artist ways don’t exactly set a good example for Bobby. When her charm wears off and the string of crimes catches [ Read More ]

"X-Men" and "Goldeneye" star Famke Janssen makes her screenwriting and directing debut with "Bringing Up Bobby," a family drama starring Milla Jovovich and Bill Pullman that cuts close to home for the Dutch-born actress. Below, Janssen opens up about her personal ties to the film and shares a scene exclusively with Indiewire readers. "Bringing Up Bobby" opens at the Beekman Theater in New York Friday, September 28 (go here for showtimes). What It's About: “Bringing Up Bobby” follows Olive, a Ukrainian-born con artist, and her 11-year-old son Bobby as they blithely thieve their way through Oklahoma. I wanted to make a film that was both serious and comic, eschewing a single genre in favor of something more complicated. I wanted to marry '70s Hal Ashby with a strong, iconic female protagonist from films of the '30s (many of my favorite films are from these periods), aspiring to combine disparate genres.

Sneak Peek new posters and a trailer supporting the upcoming comedy-drama "Bringing Up Bobby", starring Milla Jovovich, Marcia Cross, Spencer List and Bill Pullman:
"...in an effort to escape her murky past and build a better future, 'Olive' (Jovovich), a nomadic European con-artist, and her 10-year-old American-born son, 'Bobby' (List), find themselves living in Oklahoma.
"As her top priority, Olive seeks to give Bobby the things she never had: she enrolls him in school, makes him do his homework and tries her hardest to be a good mother, and with the help of an old friend from Oklahoma, 'Walt' (Cochrane), Olive provides for Bobby in the only way she knows how.
" But despite of her efforts (or perhaps because of them) Bobby displays troubling behavior both at his school and in their conservative neighborhood.

This weekend you can check out Milla Jovovich kicking asses in Resident Evil: Retribution, but how would you like to see her team up with Jean Grey instead? Well, you can, though it might not be exactly as you think. Famke Janssen is making her directorial debut with Bringing Up Bobby, a comedic drama starring Jovovich and Bill Pullman. The story follows Olive, a nomadic European con-artist, and her 10-year-old American-born son, Bobby (Spencer List), as they struggle to live in Oklahoma and deal with the trials and tribulations of living in a broken family, not to mention her impending reptuation as a criminal catching up with her. Honestly, it looks kind of messy with a tone that's all over the place. Watch? Here's the first trailer for Famke Janssen's Bringing Up Bobby from YouTube: In an effort to escape her murky past and build a better future, Olive...

For the last decade or more, "Resident Evil: Retribution" star Milla Jovovich has been synonymous with one thing: Kicking ass. But now, she's breaking out of that mold and playing against type in the brand new trailer for the indie dramedy "Bringing Up Bobby."
And she's getting a little help from none other than Famke Janssen herself.
Janssen, of course, is a fellow femme fatale, having broken hearts and bones in everything from "GoldenEye" to the "X-Men" trilogy. This time around, though, she's taking on a very different, behind-the-scenes role as first time writer and director.
So just what does she have Jovovich doing? Well, "Bringing Up Bobby," which has been making the festival circuit rounds this summer, features Jovovich as a single mom trying to raise a precocious kid while trying to hide a fairly major secret: She's a wanted criminal.
Janssen and Jovovich is a dream team. But...

Hemlock Grove, a gripping tale of murder, mystery and monsters set in a ravaged Pennsylvania steel town, starring Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard and produced by Gaumont International Television, will be available for Netflix members to watch instantly, beginning early in 2013.
Hemlock Grove starts with the body of a young girl, mangled and murdered in the shadow of the former Godfrey steel mill. Some suspect an escapee from the White Tower, a biotech facility owned by the former steel magnates. Others believe the killer could be Peter, a 17-year-old Gypsy kid from the wrong side of the tracks, who tells his classmates he’s a werewolf. Or it could be Roman (Skarsgard), the arrogant Godfrey scion, whose sister Shelley is disturbingly deformed and whose mother, Olivia (Janssen), the otherworldly beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.
As the crime goes unsolved and outlandish rumors mount, Peter and Roman decide to find the killer themselves,...

"X-Men" fans hoping for a resurrection of Jean Grey will have to wait a long time.
Famke Janssen told The Huffington Post at the Savannah Film Festival that there is no hope for another "X-Men" flick in her future.
"I have died twice. I don't know how I can come back again," Janssen said.
Well, it's not that ridiculous. Jean Grey is the Phoenix, afterall.
In fact, it's likely that we'll be seeing less and less of the "X-Men" and "Nip/Tuck" star. She just made her directorial and writing debut with "Bringing Up Bobby," which screened at the Savannah Festival last week, and the 45-year-old says she is totally enamored with working behind the scenes.
"I'll be doing a lot more directing. I'm already planning the next project. The frustrating part about being an actor, sometimes, is waiting for other people to tell you what to do ... that they...

In case you haven't noticed, we are right in the thick of festival season. Venice is nearing the finish line, Telluride came and went over the weekend, Tiff kicks off on Thursday and festivities in Deauville are now in full swing. That last festival, dedicated to American cinema (ie. getting Hollywood stars over to France to walk the red carpet) boasts a lineup that ranges from the blatantly commerical ("The Lion King") to actually premiering some new, independent movies. And so, model-turned-actress Famke Janssen will show off her directorial debut "Bringing Up Bobby" (not be confused with the direct-to-video Christian…...

We’ve gotten a slew of brand new marketing material and, I’m proud to report, most of the competition revolved around the promotion department – well, for trailers at least. The past seven days have been rough ones for poster designers. Apparently the team that put together the first image for Famke Janssen’s directorial debut, Bringing Up Bobby, have Lifetime on the brain, because this design would go perfectly with one of their schmaltzy productions. Taking a step up the ladder, Contagion spreads via a series of character posters. They’re not bad designs by any means, but they do primarily rely on star power and, while the film’s cast is stellar, it’s the story the promotions team...

When Antonio Banderas winds up in a bushy white beard in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire and Famke Janssen (X-Men) submits to hideous makeup as a powerful witch in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, you know they're heading into character roles. So who can blame Dutch actress Janssen for deciding--James Franco-style--not to wait around for acting jobs? Just as she left modeling 18 years ago at her peak to become an actress, and got into the AFI film school when her acting career wasn't thriving at first--at which point she landed a gig as Bond Girl Xenia Onatopp in Goldeneye--she followed up her Columbia literature studies by writing and directing her first movie. She came to Cannes this year to promote market title Bringing Up Bobby, a ...

Big day for casting female fairy tale villains. Famke Janssen will play the leader of the witches in the Tommy Wirkola-directed Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters at Paramount Pictures. She joins Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the title characters who, 15 years after their narrow fairy tale escape from the gingerbread house, become specialized bounty-hunters looking to take down the witches that almost killed them. Janssen takes the job the same day that Julia Roberts closed to play the Evil Queen in Relativity Media's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. Gary Sanchez is producing the witch project. Janssen just wrapped her scripting/directing debut on Bringing Up Bobby. She's repped by CAA and Brookside Artists.

Hot on the heels of Resident Evil: Afterlife’s number one, record-breaking opening, series star Milla Jovovich is promising a fifth installment to the zombie-killing franchise.
“This new ‘Resident Evil’ is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise,” Jovovich told Vulture. “So we’re definitely going to make another one.”
She said her husband, director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson, already has ideas for the fifth Resident Evil, but that they are interested in the audience’s input this time too. “We’ve been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it’s probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It’s going to be a more interactive process,” she said.
