Kevin Costner in Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 (2024)

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1

Kevin Costner Directed His Post-Yellowstone $100m Western Because No Director Was Willing To Do It
Image
Fans famously know Kevin Costner for his role as John Dutton in the Yellowstone universe. And while he had said goodbye to the show, he actually took a bold step in his career by directing and starring in Horizon: An American Saga.

The movie had a huge budget, as it was the actor’s passion project that he had been working on for years. But getting it made wasn’t easy despite Costner’s name being attached to it, so when no director was ready to direct it, Costner took matters into his own hands.

Kevin Costner risked it all to bring his dream western a reality

Actor Kevin Costner is known for his deep love for Westerns, and after stepping away from the Yellowstone world, he decided to go all in for his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga. This movie was on his mind since the late 1980s...

Yellowstone Star Kevin Costner on His Love for Horse-riding: “I actually direct out of the saddle sometimes!”
Image
Yeah… that’s a skill that only Yellowstone star Kevin Costner can possess, and he is damn proud of it too. The actor, who looks like a cowboy, has found fame through some iconic roles in television shows and movies.

One of his most prominent and famous roles was that of John Dutton in the 2018 Taylor Sheridan show Yellowstone. Although the main actor, Kevin Costner, often had the opportunity to direct an episode, he did it the good-old John Dutton way!

Kevin Costner directed his episodes while on horseback!

Well, that’s the first time I have ever heard of such a thing. Although renowned directors might be doing it all the time while making cowboy movies, Kevin Costner is one of the first people to say it out loud.

Horizon: An American Saga Star Offers Discouraging Chapter 2 Update
Image
Kevin Costner's Western film series, Horizon: An American Saga, keeps struggling to find some giddy-up following the mixed reception garnered by Chapter 1 last summer. The latest progress update from one of Chapter 1's stars suggests Chapter 2 is no closer to leaving its pasture than before.

Speaking with Screen Rant,Chapter 1 star Isabelle Fuhrman offered an uncertain Chapter 2 release update, claiming she has "no clue" what's happening with the follow-up or where Horizon goes from here. Though Fuhrman, who stars as Diamond Kittredge in Horizon, is sure Costner is "up to something" with the film, she is as in the dark about it as the fans are. “No, I wish. I'm in the same boat as you," she said. "I really hope that we get to see the second one. I have no clue what Kevin's planning, but he's probably planning something. And, yeah, no, I'm a really big fan of the second film.

Kevin Costner's 'Horizon' Franchise Gets Another Uncertain Update From Isabelle Fuhrman
Image
The second movie in Kevin Costner’s massively ambitious, costly, and troubled Western franchise, Horizon, has been waiting in the wings for a release for what seems like a very long time. According to one star of the movie, despite several premieres and tentative dates for its release, the future of Horizon looks bleak and stuck in hostile territory.

Kevin Costner’s future seemed to be incredibly straightforward and certain a few years ago. He was the lead character in the mighty Yellowstone, and then he had this huge, ambitious Western project of his own bubbling away in the background. Then he decided that the movie saga that would become Horizon could not wait any longer, which led to him departing Taylor Sheridan’s hit series under a cloud and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 hitting theaters in 2024, with the second part expected to follow a couple of months later.

"Hoping That I Get That Call From Kevin Sometime Soon": Horizon Chapter 2 Gets Uncertain Release Update From Star As She Previews Its Story
Image
While Kevin Costner had high hopes for Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2, its release future remains in doubt. The upcoming Horizon sequel has already been screened to critics at international film festivals, but general audiences have not yet had the chance to see it. The delay stems from Chapter 1's struggles at the box office after it earned under $40 million against a $50 million budget. The sequel was largely completed when the first movie was released, and it was expected to debut just two months later. After the disappointing returns, however,Chapter 2 was indefinitely delayed.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns about her thriller, Unit 234, Isabelle Fuhrman (Diamond) admitted that she remains unsure of Horizon's future. While she hopes to see an eventual release, Costner has not contacted her about a potential release. Fuhrman is especially interested in the sequel, as it "captures so much more...

Kevin Costner Really Wanted The $200M Movie With His Idol That Offered Him ‘Limitless’ Money But Left It for Something Better
Image
When Kevin Costner chose not to appear on the much-acclaimed fifth and final season of Yellowstone, partially due to scheduling conflicts and largely to focus on his latest western, Horizon: An American Saga, hearts were broken. In doing so, the Oscar winner not only denounced the chance of encashing a hefty paycheck but also invested a significant amount of his own money to make the project see the light of day.

While the 70-year-old is no stranger to taking risks when it comes to pursuing his passion for western films, this is hardly the first time that he has chosen the creative freedom of the director’s seat over the lure of an eye-watering salary. In fact, in his prime, Costner left a lucrative opportunity to star with one of his idols – Sean Connery – in The Hunt for Red October that went on to gross over $200 million in the 1990s.

“He’s Got a Lot to Prove”: 'Ransom Canyon's Yancy Actor Teases What Could Happen in Season 2
Image
As Season 1 of Ransom Canyon wrapped, fans of the new Netflix series were left with some loose threads that a new season would need to tie up. One of the characters that has the most to deal with is Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher), who presents himself as one kind of person throughout the episodes, only to reveal that he had a big secret that he conveniently forgot to tell his new lover, Ellie (Marianly Tejada). In a recent interview, Schumacher talked about his character's path in a potential Season 2.

During the interview with Swoon, Schumacher commented on the fact that we did know that Yancy is a con artist, so lying is "just second nature" to him. At the same time, the actor mentioned that he does believe that Yancy is trying to start from scratch and be a new person, but apparently, old habits die hard. If the series comes back for more episodes,...

“I’m Certainly In The Dog House”: ‘Ransom Canyon’ Star Comments On That Major Yancy Twist
Image
As much as we instantly think about Yellowstone when we take a look at the fresh neo-western series Ransom Canyon, we can't deny that the show managed to find its own rhythm and identity in Season 1. For one, the Netflix series has a much less cynical approach to love — even though its romantic storylines have their share of twists. In a new interview, series star Jack Schumacher (Top Gun: Maverick), who plays cowboy Yancy Grey, talked about his character's secret, which is revealed by the end of the season.

The storyline of Yancy in Ransom Canyon is pretty compelling because he wasn't exactly looking for the love of his life. Initially, he comes to Texas Hill Country wanting to make money fast and then move on to the next town. He just didn't count on meeting Ellie Estevez (Marianly Tejada) and falling head over heels for her. It all looks...

Ted Sarandos states “Netflix is saving Hollywood” while theaters are “an outmoded idea” for some audiences
Image
The great debate rages on as movie theaters struggle to compete with streaming content. While movie fans clamor for more original films and fewer tentpole franchises, movies like Mickey 17 and Horizon: An American Saga, which were non-sequel, non-franchise properties, ended up performing well below expectations at the box office. Even big-name films like Snow White are not reaching the heights that Disney can usually count on. On the flip side, A Minecraft Movie is doing gangbusters and the new original genre picture from Ryan Coogler, Sinners, is also performing well with a hard R rating that is usually seen as something that minimizes audiences. As things look bleak in Hollywood, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos recently spoke at the Time100 Summit, where he conveyed that the streamer is the saving grace for the film industry.

According to Deadline, the CEO was asked if Netflix was destroying Hollywood and he countered with,...

Netflix’s New Romantic ‘Yellowstone’ Dupe Debuts Among Most-Watched Shows on the Platform
Image
The success of Yellowstone is undeniable — the Paramount+ series repeatedly brings in big viewing numbers, and it's no wonder that other platforms are trying to replicate the format. Netflix's latest attempt at the neo-western genre is Ransom Canyon. For a new and unknown series, the title resonated pretty well with Netflix subscribers, and with just one week it shot up all the way to #2 among the most-watched shows on the platform — it only failed to outperform the new season of Black Mirror.

Ransom Canyon is set in Texas and chronicles the feud between three families that own ranches and are fighting to control the land. Yes, it's a pretty similar situation to what the Duttons deal with in Yellowstone, but the story managed to rope viewers in: the series accumulated 7.2 million views in less than seven days, which is more than Adolescence did this week (6M) and more than...

'Sinners' Is Likely to Stream on Max Before Landing on Netflix
Image
Director Ryan Coogler’s horror movie Sinners continues to impress both critics and audiences alike, as well as hauling in an impressive box office, with cinemagoers enamored with the filmmaker’s terrifying tale of twin brothers who return to their hometown...only to find it infiltrated by a sinister force. While the dollar signs continue to spin at the box office, audiences will be wondering when and where Sinners will land on streaming. While we may not yet know the answer to the former, it’s possible the latter has now been revealed.

Coming courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures, Sinners is expected to initially land on Max (formerly HBO Max), as is the case for most movies produced by the studio. However, while Max will likely debut Sinners at home, the horror outing is expected to later land on a more popular streaming platform, Netflix, as has been the case with the likes of Furiosa,...

Costner, in addition to directing, stars in "Horizon", alongside his son Hayes Costner, who plays his younger version.

Cast also includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Michael Rooker, Jena Malone, Isabelle Fuhrman, Alejandro Edda...

Rip & Beth: Everything We Know About the Yellowstone Spin-Off
Image
What Do We Know About the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off series focused on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler? More than you may think. The Paramount+ series is slated to continue where the original Yellowstone left off. From plot, casting news, and more, lets dive in and take a look at what is coming up in the new addition to the Yellowstone franchise.

What is the spin-off about?

While the final episode of Yellowstone was teased as a season finale rather than a series ender, news reports have been circulating since the January 1, 2023 mid-season finale of the fifth season. With a contentious public squabble between series creator Taylor Sheridan and star Kevin Costner regarding the iconic actor wanting more time to work on his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, Yellowstone was stuck trying to wrap up the season without its leading man. With the SAG-AFTRA and Writer’s Guild strikes delaying things further,...

Image
Just when you thought the cast for David O. Russell’s John Madden-centered movie, Madden, couldn’t get any more star-studded, Deadline jumped in and said — oh, but it could. The film, which previously cast Nicolas Cage (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) as the late sportscaster and iconic coach, has added three new names to its call sheet. Ready to tackle the tale of one of sports’ most legendary figures is Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along), Sienna Miller (Anatomy of a Scandal), and John Mulaney (The Jim Gaffigan Show). As far as the group's casting is concerned, Mulaney is on deck to play EA Sports founder, Trip Hawkins. In addition to creating one of the biggest names in sports-based video games, Hawkins was the main pusher when it came...

David Zaslav Received Raise Of Millions Despite WB's Hard Times
Image
WB has had a rough go of it recently. The company isn’t going under, of course, but they’ve had some pretty big flops during 2024 and 2025. In spite of all that, David Zaslav and quite a few other executives are getting big raises.

Per Variety, Zaslav’s pay package is now at $51.9 million dollars which is about a four percent increase from the previous year. A four percent raise doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you make $49.7 million dollars, which was Zaslav’s total pay package in 2023, four percent amounts to millions of dollars.

From Variety, “Zaslav had a 2023 pay package worth $49.7 million, up 26.5% from the year prior. Zaslav’s compensation totaled $39.3 million in 2022, after he received an astonishing $246.6 million (which included $203 million in stock-option grants) in 2021.

For 2024, Zaslav’s base salary was $3 million. He received stock awards worth $23.1 million, bonus compensation of $23.9 million and “all other” compensation of $1.9 million.

Sylvester Stallone may have left boxing gloves, but now he is making waves with his cowboy boots, especially when you see the numbers. The Rocky legend is throwing punches once again, not for a blockbuster action movie but for the paycheck with his small-screen role.

With Paramount+ renewing his hit crime-drama Tulsa King for a third season, Stallone’s new deal has fans and industry insiders doing double-takes.

France’s Love Affair With Hollywood Continues, and Vice Versa, in U.S.-Heavy Cannes Lineup
Image
For the second time in six years — and only the fourth in its 78-year history — the movie that cinched the Palme d’Or at Cannes went on to win best picture at the Oscars.

When it happened to “Parasite,” it was easy to look on that as a fluke. Not since “No Country for Old Men” (another film launched at Cannes) had a genre film earned the Academy’s top prize. And of course, no South Korean movie had ever won (or even so much as been nominated) for best picture before.

But the triumph of “Anora” this year suggests a possible pattern … or perhaps, the inevitable result of a concerted effort by the Academy to diversify and globalize its membership (a move that inevitably benefits international and non-English-language cinema at the Oscars). Either way, the celebrated film festival — which takes place every May along France’s Côte d’Azur...

Here's what to know so far about Harlan Coben's next Netflix show I Will Find You
Image
Harlan Coben adaptations have taken over Netflix. In 2025 alone, the streamer has rolled out three new thriller series: Missing You, Just One Look and Caught. Coming up next is the television series adaptation of Coben's 2023 bestselling novel I Will Find You, and so much anticipation is already building.

The mystery thriller was first announced to be in the works back in November 2024. Its greenlighting wasn’t unexpected, as Coben has an ongoing partnership with Netflix, where his novels are to be adapted into English-language and foreign-language series or films. The streaming giant decided to hand out an eight-episode order for I Will Find You, with Robert Hull as the showrunner and writer. You might recognize Hull from his past writing credits on shows such as Gossip Girl, Once Upon a Time, Gotham, Pennyworth and Monarch. He's also signed on as an executive producer on I Will Find You along with Bryan Wynbrandt,...

15 Best Hidden-Gem Western Movies Since Tombstone
Image
Since the Golden Age of Hollywood, Westerns have delivered audiences some of the most powerful performances and best-written stories of cinema, from John Wayne in The Searchers to Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven. In 1993, Tombstone shook up the genre by bringing a star-studded, action-heavy story to the West, quickly winning over a new generation of viewers to the Western and revitalizing the film industry's interest in it.

Since the success of Tombstone, the Western genre has proven to be incredibly versatile, and studios have been more open to experimenting with the Old West than ever before. Films like Horizon: An American Saga, 3:10 To Yuma, and True Grit represent some of the most ambitious, best-written, and entertaining Westerns of all time. However, in the age of blockbuster superhero cinema, it's never been easier for great Westerns to go overlooked by mainstream audiences -- and these films prove it.

Robert De Niro’s Crime Thriller ‘Alto Knights’ Gets Curb Stomped in Global Box Office Debut
Image
It wasn’t too long ago that Warner Bros. debuted Kevin Costner’s passion project, Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1. Ostensibly aimed at older audiences, the movie tanked upon release, which prompted W.B. to remove the already completed sequel from its release calendar. This week’s The Alto Knights appears to be targeting a similar demographic. But it drew a worse response at the box office. Starring Robert De Niro in the dual roles of the mobsters Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, the crime drama debuted to mediocre reviews and negligible interest at the box office.

The movie made just $3 million in its first weekend of release at the domestic box office, finishing outside the top five, behind even Mickey 17 — another W.B. release that has struggled commercially. The movie made another $1.9 million from overseas markets, for a nearly $5 million global debut. Directed by veteran Barry Levinson, The...

“He really trusted…”: 1923 Star’s Heartfelt Interaction With Taylor Sheridan Reveals a Side of Him Haters Have No Clue About
Image
Director and writer Taylor Sheridan, who rose to global stardom thanks to his Paramount TV series Yellowstone, has also had his fair share of drama for that very project. Yes, we’re talking about his high-profile feud with Kevin Costner that painted Sheridan as a bit of a control freak on set.

But 1923 star Aminah Nieves just gave us a peek at a totally different side of him. During a panel discussion with The Wrap, she shared how Taylor Sheridan trusted his actors completely, giving them the freedom to own their roles. Her heartfelt experience revealed a different image of the director, unlike Kevin Costner’s version.

“He leans on her quite often”: The Woman From Kevin Costner’s Past Who Has Become His Rock After Christine Baumgartner Divorce
Image
Actor Kevin Costner is one of the most talented actors in the industry currently who garnered massive attention after he starred in his first regular TV role as John Dutton III in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. Costner was highly appreciated for his role as the patriarch of the Dutton family. The actor decided to leave the show to pursue his four-part epic western movie Horizon: An American Saga and Chapter 1 was released to mixed reviews in June 2024.

Kevin Costner’s personal life has also been discussed as he finalized his divorce with now ex-wife Christine Baumgartner in February 2024. The former couple had a bit of animosity while they were looking forward to settling their divorce with a prenuptial agreement in order. Almost a year after their divorce, reports have suggested the purse designer is engaged to Josh Connor; Costner is...

Could Mickey 17 already be coming to digital next week?
Image
Warner Bros. has shown to be pretty cutthroat in the past with underperforming films. Last year, Kevin Costner’s passion project Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 would finally hit screens and the Western epic, which sported a price tag of $100 million, was dumped on digital a mere three weeks after it premiered in theaters and the box office earnings for Costner and company would come in at just above $30 million. At the time, the unconventionally short release window was also thought to additionally be a strategy to get audiences interested in an already planned follow-up that was to be released a couple of months later. However, Warner Bros. completely scrapped the second chapter from their release schedule entirely at this point.

Enter Mickey 17 — a quirky sci-fi starring Robert Pattinson (who is currently the face of Batman for the studio) and comes from Bong Joon Ho, director of the Academy Award-winning film Parasite.

Financial Difficulty Kevin Costner’s Ex-wife Christine Baumgartner Faced After Her $248,000 per Month Demand Was Denied During Divorce Settlement

Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner’s divorce battle went through a lot of rough patches before they finally settled their separation, including financial demands. In May 2023, the famed designer filed for divorce due to irreconcilable differences after almost two decades of marriage.

The ex-couple began dating back in 1999 after they met on a golf course, eventually tying the knot in September 2004. The Yellowstone actor felt deeply saddened that their marriage did not last forever as Baumgartner reportedly got angry due to her ex-spouse focusing more on work than family.

Christine Baumgartner was forced to a lifestyle downgrade after her divorce from Kevin Costner

In September 2023, Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner reached a divorce settlement, with a lot of financial issues discussed during their court battle. Since they share three children, the ex-wife reportedly demanded $248,000 a month in child support. She allegedly specified that...

‘Die Alone’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Douglas Smith, Kimberly-Sue Murray, Carrie-Anne Moss, Frank Grillo, Jonathan Cherry | Written and Directed by Lowell Dean

Die Alone is the most recent film from Saskatchewan-based filmmaker Lowell Dean. If you’ve heard of him, it’s probably because of the over-the-top genre comedies WolfCop and Another WolfCop. But he’s done several other films, including the zombie film 13 Eerie and the post-apocalyptic action film SuperGrid, which I was lucky enough to catch along with a Q&a session with him at the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival a few years back.

Both zombies and a post-apocalyptic setting return in Die Alone, but it’s not a typical tale of the zombie apocalypse, although that isn’t easy to tell from the opening scenes. Ethan and his girlfriend Emma were heading to his cabin when their car crashed. Ethan wakes up to find Emma and most of his memories, are missing.

'Avatar's Sam Worthington To Lead Harlan Coben's 'I Will Find You'
Image
Actor Sam Worthington is about to enter another universe you know and love — but this time with fewer blue humanoids. The prolific television creator and novelist, Harlan Coben, has found his latest leading man in the Avatar actor. And his next limited series adaptation sounds like a real emotional doozy, which is fitting. According to Variety, Worthington will play a character from Coben's novel, I Will Find You, and it focuses on a heartbreaking, twisting tale of false imprisonment and a thrillingly harrowing family mystery.

It falls in line with Coben's work — 12 of his 37 novels have been adapted for film and television, and frequently feature unresolved murders and/or events from the past coming back to haunt their protagonist. He is beloved for his dramatic twists and turns, and has been heavily involved in bringing his novels to the small screen for Netflix. The same can be said of I Will Find You,...

Stranger Things Star Jamie Campbell Bower Among The Rings of Power Season 3 Additions
Image
New casting picks have just been announced for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Actor Jamie Campbell Bower, best known for playing Vecna in Netflix's hit series Stranger Things, is one of two additions newly revealed to be coming into The Rings of Power for Season 3. Bower will be playing a series regular role, described as a "handsome high-born knight" who's being referred to under the code name "Arlen." It's believed that he could be a new love interest for Morfydd Clark's Galadriel after her fallout with Charlie Vickers' Halbrand/Sauron.

Per Deadline, another newcomer for The Rings of PowerSeason 3 will be actor Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan). He will be featured in a recurring role, and the code name being used for the character in the casting information is "Dromm." All that's known about this character is that he "has a brother,...

Lotr: The Rings of Power adds Stranger Things villain actor Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan for Season 3
Image
I hope Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have enough room in their bellies for a second-breakfast because they’re joining the cast of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3. Bower, who plays the Freddy Krueger-like villain Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s Stranger Things, boards the show as a series regular, while Marsan will recur in new episodes of the big-budget fantasy series.

Details about their respective roles are scarce. However, the scoopers at Deadline hear that Bower plays a significant role in upcoming events as a “handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen). He may play a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), who, after the events of Season 2, continues to grapple with the fact that her previous love, Hallbrand (Charlie Vickers), is Sauron. Woof.

Speaking about his Stranger Things role, Bower said he’s looking to give villainy a...

‘Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power’ Casts Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan
Image
Middle-earth just gained two more inhabitants.

Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have joined the cast of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” for the Amazon Prime Video series’ upcoming third season.

Bower will be a series regular, while Marsan will appear in a recurring role. The season is currently in pre-production and will begin filming this spring at Shepperton Studios in the U.K.

Bower is perhaps best known for playing the villain Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” He also played Mick Jagger in “Urban Myths: Mick & Margaret,” Christopher Marlow in “Will,” King Arthur in “Camelot,” the voice of Skiff in “Thomas & Friends” and 11-12 in the remake of “The Prisoner” alongside Sir Ian McKellen.

He made his film debut in Tim Burton’s “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” opposite Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter. He...

‘Lotr: The Rings Of Power’ Adds ‘Stranger Things’ Star Jamie Campbell Bower For Season 3; Eddie Marsan Also Cast
Image
This is a match made in genre heaven — Jamie Campbell Bower, star of Netflix’s blockbuster supernatural drama Stranger Things, is joining one of biggest fantasy franchises of all time. Bower has been tapped as a series regular for the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Additionally, Ray Donovan alum Eddie Marsan is set to recur on the new season, which is currently in pre-production.

As usual, details about the role are being kept under wraps but I hear Bower plays Rings of Power’s biggest new cast addition, a character described as a handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen) in casting information that has been circulated around. He could be a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) who spent the second season facing the reality of her Season 1 love interest Halbrand’s (Charlie Vickers) true identity as arch-villain Sauron.

'The Women in Them Were So Awful': Helen Mirren Credits Taylor Sheridan for Fixing a Problematic Western Trope
Image
Over two years since the premiere of 1923 Season 1, the spin-off prequel series to the Western Yellowstone has returned with Season 2. The series serves as a sequel to 1883, and its second installment brought back the same characters, with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as the leads.

In the series, the Oscar-winning actress plays Cara Dutton and received several accolades for her performance in Season 1. Mirren shared her excitement to be back on set with Ford and the rest of the cast and had a lot of praise for the show's creator, Taylor Sheridan. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter following the 1923 Season 2 premiere, she also highlighted how Sheridan fixed an ongoing problematic trope in the Western genre.

What Happened To The Cast Of The 1994 Wyatt Earp Movie?
Image
"Tombstone," from 1993, is the Wyatt Earp movie most people remember from the '90s, but it's hardly the only star-studded spectacle about the legendary marshal. A year later, "Wyatt Earp" came out, reuniting actor Kevin Costner with filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan, the director who first made him a charismatic cowboy in 1985's "Silverado." A love of the old west clearly stuck with Costner, who made his directorial debut with "Dances With Wolves," an epic about a Union Army Lieutenant (Costner) who goes native. If you haven't seen it, you've probably at least heard the plot of "Avatar" compared (unfavorably) to it. It won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and another for Costner as Best Director.

Covering more of Earp's life than just the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, "Wyatt Earp" came loaded with actors both familiar and new, as one would expect of an old Hollywood epic biopic. It...

Image
Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Costner is universally known for his role in Western films. The filmmaker wanted to restore the genre's popularity with the Horizon: An American Saga film series and continues to believe in the project despite the first installment's poor critical and commercial reception.

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 premiered on June 28, 2024, 36 years after Costner started developing the series in 1988. A longtime passion project for the actor and director, who used his own money to produce it, the franchise is supposed to include four epic Western films. At the premiere of Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2, Costner told Decider he's still confident the series would be a success, citing the first installment's journey on streaming.

The John Wayne Western That Changed Kevin Costner's Life

If you're ever fortunate enough to interview a great filmmaker, or simply find yourself occupying the same space as one and want to make the moment meaningful before it passes, you'll always get a genuine answer when you ask them to name the movie that made them fall in love with the medium. This may not be true in years to come, when creators who grew up during the downtick in theatrical exhibition and the explosion of TikTok craft art meant to be digested in 30-second morsels on your smartphone, but right now it is a near certainty that your favorite director got bit by the cinema bug while sitting in a darkened theater — and that's a memory they can access as fast as their first kiss (do not ask them about that).
