At 17, Yara Shahidi has carved out a style worthy of longtime red carpet veterans. Her looks are adventurous yet fun, aspirational yet achievable, and daring yet never veer toward shocking territory.
And Shahidi says it’s going to stay that way.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ “Black Girls Rock” speech was hailed as powerful by multiple people, but there’s one person who doesn’t seem to be a fan — Stacey Dash. The 50-year-old actress retweeted a Bet article on Waters’ speech to her Twitter account Thursday night and said that the politician was a “corrupt media buffoon sucking up her late in life 15 minutes.” This is how you spin a corrupt media buffoon sucking up her late in life 15 minutes: https://t.co/PY1N5GgxuQ — Stacey Dash (@REALStaceyDash) August 24, 2017 Also Read: Maxine Waters to Donald Trump: 'We Will Impeach You,...

On the same night President Trump railed against the news media in Phoenix, California congresswoman Maxine Waters had a different message: “Not only will we resist you, we will impeach you, Mr. President.'” The 78-year-old Democrat was being honored at the annual Black Girls Rock award ceremony. The event recognizes black women for their excellence in fields that range from entertainment to entrepreneurship with award categories like “Trailblazer” and “Young, Gifted and Black.” Waters, known as Auntie Maxine to her fans, told critics during her acceptance speech: “If you come for me, I’m coming for you.” She called out “right-wing,...

Actor Jesse Williams was praised during the Bet Awards when the “Grey’s Anatomy” star received the Humanitarian Award and used his time on stage to speak out about racial inequalities and police brutality. But now, a Change.com petition is calling for the actor to be fired from the Shonda Rhimes’ series.
According to the petition created by a user named Erin Smith, “Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the Bet awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude.”

The singer, who is currently on tour, served up some major face while posing for photos in a fur coat, white shorts, and an oversize blue top. Inside, she mingled with her assistant, Jennifer Rosales, and Bet's chairman and CEO, Debra Lee, and at one point, Rihanna even took the stage to accept the rock star award. During her speech, the Barbadian star thanked her mother and grandmother for being amazing role models and touched on self-love, saying, "The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else. Role model is not the title they like to give me . . . [but] I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves, and that is half the battle." “Throughout my career, it’s been frustrating to me that when I say, ‘I sing rock music,’ people are always surprised,” says Season 8’s sixth-place finisher. “People don’t know the history of rock music, how it evolved from the African-American spirituals, from the sharecroppers singing songs, to the blues, and then to rock music.”

Inspiring is not usually the first word that springs to mind when one thinks of awards shows, but that's what the fifth annual Black Girls Rock was all about. The show, which aired last night on Bet, featured incredible performances, powerful speeches, and an appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama. For those not in the mood to be empowered, there was a bit of drama, too, much of it supplied by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Will threw shade at TMZ, Jada took on that Deadline article, and there were plenty of amusing Willow reaction shots. Here are some highlights.• While accepting her Shot Caller award, Selma director Ava DuVernay described how taking a "leading-lady stance" can help you through tough situations, even if you aren't in front of a camera. • Jill Scott gave a passionate performance of "You Don’t Know." Imma let you finish, Ygritte, but this is...

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards went off without a hitch earlier this evening (February 22) with "12 Years a Slave" continuing to make waves snagging the biggest prize of the night.
Before her film won Outstanding Motion Picture, the gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o added another piece of hardware to her already impressive collection taking home a trophy for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while Kerry Washington snagged up her second Image Award with a win for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. Kerry's show "Scandal" also won Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, the hilarious Kevin Hart took home Entertainer of the Year, while Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela with a touching speech and musical dedication.
"He was everything we have all have heard and more. He was humble and he was unscathed by any kind of bitterness after all that we know he's been through," Winfrey said.

Lala Anthony wore this amazing dress first when she stepped out on Oct. 13, 2012, for Bet’s Black Girls Rock event — and she killed it! However mere days ago on Jan. 6, Lindsay Lohan donned the same exact dress to the 2nd Sohu Fashion Achievement Awards and she looked just as good! We cannot decide which look was the best, so you decide! Who wore it better? Vote.
Lala Anthony’s Bet Black Girls Rock Dress:
Lala looked fab in the skintight velvet Balmain dress from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection. The pattern on the dress resembled scales and the frock fit her curvaceous body perfectly as the turtle neck went well with Lala’s choice of hairstyle — a slicked back, high ponytail with a bouffant. We now know two things about Kelly Rowland: she has a killer body and a large outie belly button. The X Factor judge stepped out in this rather unique Alon Livne jumpsuit on the Black Girls Rock red carpet. We don't know what's weirder, the totally sheer pants or the '90s power woman top. It's like this former Destiny's Child member is auditioning for a remake of Designing Women...on Cinemax. We could get behind this look if the pants weren't entirely see-through. A sheer midriff and peek-a-boo panels throughout would be way less intense. Same goes for the top. Less width in the half sleeves, and height in the neckline would take it from flashback to modern. That said, we always...

The ‘Beautiful’ singer showed off a lot of skin, but did you like the look? Was it totally tasteful or way too over the top? Vote.
Mariah Carey, 43, wore an Alexander McQueen ensemble for her appearance at the Bet: Black Girls Rock! event held in Newark, NJ on Oct. 26. The singer was in attendance to pay homage to Patti Labelle and apparently decided to wear a crop top for the occasion. Her ensemble consisted of a midriff-bearing top and an black and gold embroidered skirt from Alexander McQueen’s Resort 2013 line. While we love her for coming out to honor the incredible Patti, we wish Mariah would have chosen an outfit that was more flattering for her appearance. What do you think of the get-up?
Mariah Carey’s Crop Top At Bet: Black Girls Rock Event:
This skirt and crop top combo isn’t doing a thing for the usually super sexy star.
