Loved it... thanks for the fan service
CaptainKot23 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Is this the same Picard I suffered through in season 1 and 2?

This is Star Trek, made for fans, by fans. Whoever made this, thanks for actually giving most of us what we wanted to watch all along unlike the past two seasons and Discovery :)

I know this is the last season, but it's like we're back with the TNG crew again for one last adventure. Forgetting season 1 & 2 ever happened, this is what it should have been.

The museum scene, whilst not needed for the plot, was a tear jerker for those who grew up watching in the 90s and early 2000s, especially seven talking about voyager and was a great nod to the fans who have continued to watch despite the recent poor remakes

For the first time in a long time, I can't wait for the next episode.

Worf Rules
EntropyFashion23 March 2023
Back to back weeks now and STP is knocking it out of the park. Every aspect of the original shows is on clear display here. One important thing is this show has found a way to preserve the look and feel of the old shows while utilizing the upgrades we now have in cgi and cinematography. Discovery constantly disrupted canon because they wanted to indulge themselves in overblown sets and cgi.

And the interaction between old friends rings true and has depth. Seeing more old characters from TNG works here because they have taken the time to write plausible reasons for their involvement and motivations.

But Worf rules, in his delightful delivery and demeanor. Even Picard's son is growing on me.

This season only pisses me off because we could have had three great seasons instead of only one.

What a ride!
xrextorn23 March 2023
This is not Picard this is TNG on all levels.

This is what we have missed for almost 3 decades. Thanks everyone who have somehow participated in production.

Please keep up the hype all that high till the very end.

***

With all the legendary characters we meet again, the show gains more sentiment, nostalghia, heart-warmth and feeling of wholeness.

And the cliffhanger was placed so damn good, while keeping you at the edge of your chair all the time.

***

And the ships! Really? All of them at once? That was trully unexpected. I'd really love to see some interiors, but still that scene really made me sob with joy!

They're actually doing it
guerrio25 March 2023
6 episodes deep into this season, and for once a modern Trek show can actually hold its quality, and arguably improve upon it. This is exactly the quality of writing and plot advancement I've been craving Post-Voyager. None of the TNG films pulled this off, they were too busy fighting a Romulan clone of Picard or something (I didn't hate Nemisis but uh, yeah). Then we got a prequel show that was alright, but didn't move the Trek universe forward too much but that was okay.

Finally, FINALLY we're actually wrapping up and advancing plots from the TNG, DS9, and Voyager era. Was this so much to ask? These writers are actually using previously well established plot points and are working with them, something that hasn't been done since 2001. DS9 was my favorite series and this season is taking the best aspects of that and combining them with TNG. Spectacular. TNG arguably has the most iconic cast, or second most for sure, so it's about time some competent folks take the best aspects the Trek universe has to offer and grow them further, which I've been wanting for 2 decades now.

This episode carried that strong momentum that episode 3 brought with it (I was fairly skeptical in the first 2 episodes), and I feel like it is only going to pick up as the season progresses. This gives me hope for what can come yet for Star Trek sequel series, and I will cherish season 3 of Picard as it is airing. This gives me hope that maybe there will be another show like TNG and DS9 with their writing caliber, or something of the combination of the two. If you haven't started watching Picard in general, skip the first 2 seasons and watch this season. Support the living crap out of this show, because this is what this franchise has desperately needed.

Another Fantastic Episode!
mfuson7723 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Talk about keeping the audience at the edge of their seats!

"The Bounty" is stocked full of easter eggs from the Trek library. Even though some items are only given a glimpse, it was a well put together, reminiscent episode of years gone by. The Daystrom Institute provided us with a quick glimpse of a Thalaron Generator from Nemisis, the Genisis device from Star Trek 2 Wrath of Khan among a few others.

Off to the fleet museum where we see The Enterprise NCC-1701-A, USS Voyager and the Bounty from everyone's favorite whale Trek!

The episode is fun to watch and full of laughs!

Worf and Rafi have found their way to the Titan in episode 6 and the old crew is in agreement that the need to "Burgle" the Daystrom Institute to acquire the manifest of what Vadic stole aside from the portal device.

Yes! We meet Professor Moriarty again! And in addition to that, some conglomerate form of Data, Lore and B4. And yes, the cloaking device from Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home - ends up on the Titan for use.

What was the other thing Vadic stole? Human remains of one Jean Luc Picard.

The episode ends on a tense note with Riker being abducted by Vadic and Deana Troi being held hostage by Vadic to sway Riker to cooperate.

It's a wonderful episode that has kept me guessing where we are going.

Set a course for episode 7, engage!

Brings back so many memories
ardy181023 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode brought back so many memories.

I appreciate how the producers thought about inserting many of the old faces from star trek the next generation.

When you think this season, the name Riker, Deanna, Beverly, Worf already too many, now they have added Geordi and Data !

But the one scene that really got me was the emergence of USS Voyager. By seeing that starship that I used to watch on television in the 90s, and now seeing them again reappear in a new show in UHD 4K screen, with the Voyager main theme heard for a brief moment, i almost cried.

I love TNG, but Star Trek Voyager was the one that stuck with me.

Amazing Episode!

Perfection... Finally!
trevbears23 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As a massive Star Trek The Next Generation fan, this episode brought tears to my eyes. It was absolutely the best episode of Picard.

Well I guess it took the Star Trek The Next Generation TV series two bad seasons to get perfect, as it did in season 3. So I guess, rightfully so, it took Star Trek Picard two bad seasons to get perfect, as it is so far in season 3.

The nostalgia was in full force in The Bounty. We finally see Geordi, and we finally see Deanna (other than a video message). We got to see the Starfleet vessel museum, where decommissioned ships become museum pieces, Captain Kirks Enterprise NCC-1701A, the Klingon ship Kirk and company had in Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home, Deep Space Nine's Defiant, and the USS Voyager.

But nothing prepared me for the return of Lieutenant Commander Data. Yup! Data is once agains, alive and well, at least his brain is, in another body. What a wonderful surprise seeing Brent Spiner bringing Data back to life. I can't wait to see how this turns out!!

Outstanding performances
wrabvideo23 March 2023
It was great to see more of the TNG family added to the cast in this episode. They all did a fantastic job without being put into the story just for the sake of them being there. They each make a contribution to the story.

Special note should be given to Amanda Plummer's performance as Vadic. It reminded me of the performance her father, Chirstopher Plummer, gave in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and I mean that as a compliment. She is an amazing performer in her own right, but in this episode, she has outdone herself. If this story arc had been presented for Season 2, there would definitely be a Season 4.

If you haven't seen this episode yet, look for the Easter eggs planted throughout.

Amazing episode!
tom99225 March 2023
First of all I have a great love for deep space nine, The Next Generation and Voyager. Now it's joy to watch every week. While every star trek season we got since 2017 has been struggling... Every episode in this season has been phenomenal, the story is perfect, bringing back an old villain is genius, the pacing is good, nothing feels like filler, the story just keeps going and getting more and more exciting by the episode. There is a lot of nostalgic moments and it feels like a true modern post TNG sequel and more! These actors still got it, and they're even better than before. The writers this season actually know what they are doing, and Terry is amazing.

Let's hope that there will be some sort of spin off after this, cause this is the star trek many of us have been waiting for.

For a uSecond I thought Odo would appear...
XweAponX24 March 2023
...In some form, obviously not as Rene Aberjonois...

The senior, senior Trekker writes. Or in this case, dictates. Which is why I always have to come back and correct the typos...

This episode has surprise upon surprise, reversal upon reversal, it's another "Trek of all Treks".

I admit that some of the other seasons of this show, and some of the other shows may have had stories that were not as good as this. The original series had episodes like Spocks Brain. And the issues with that episode were issues due to the lack of money to make the production as well as it would have been made in the first season of TOS. But as with all Trek stories, there is a very good premise at the bottom of even that episode- what would happen if men and women were totally alienated from each other? Would our world look like that world?

And I think people get too hung up on issues of production and completely miss the social commentary, which is there in each episode. And this is how the show has been from the beginning, it has not changed for any of the movies or newer shows, and it has not changed for all three seasons of Picard.

Because there are things that we all need to talk about and we get uncomfortable when these things are brought out in the open, especially in an episode of a Star Trek show.

It just does not matter to me as I love Star Trek, whatever form it takes: from the very first pilot episode, through all of the movies, including Star Trek V, all the television shows from the 80s and 90s and early 2000s, and most of the fan made shows like Star Trek Continues, and The other fan films, like Of Gods and Men and Star Trek Renegades both directed by Tim Russ. There was even a fan made show that had a lot of episodes that followed a ship called the Excelsior through the Briar patch, where they battled aliens that looked like some of the "first ones" from Babylon five (aka, they flew ships that looked like buckets). I think it was called Hidden Frontier, many of the episodes are on YouTube. I even enjoy the idea of a mycelial spore drive, and a saucer section that spins around, like a coin dancing on a table.

Regardless of what form the shows take or what they are about I have found that most of them follow Gene Roddenberry's formula on what makes Star Trek, Trek.

I have found this season of this show to be particularly endearing as it brings back beloved characters, even if we get to see them for only a short time.

In the week since the previous episode, my mind went through cogitations to see if I could figure out what was going to happen, and happily, I was wrong with every assumption and every prediction that I made.

Because what is better than to be totally and completely taken off guard, to be surprised, to have the unexpected completely tossed at your face?

As Thomas Ryker told Kira Neres, "expect the unexpected".

And this is what we have right here, right now.

This is a Strange New World of a type that we never even imagined would be talked about.

There are some things between the shape shifter that Amanda Plummer is portraying and "Jack Crusher" - there is some commonality between the two. What is it? And we still have the branches "spreading, connecting". I have asked before, is it the crystalline entity? Is it Armus? I don't know, we just have to let the story tell itself.

But what surprises me here the most is the Changlings Choice of ultimate weapon. And that is the only hint of any type that you are going to get out of me. And, oh yes... Geordies Kids names, sound familiar?

Best episode of the season
jadzia-8788625 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the best of the season so far And this season has been outstanding This cast and crew are family and I'm always happy to see them.

Jeri Ryan talking about Voyager is such a classic moment as I absolutely loved Star Trek voyager I really hope that they continue to create staries with this cast and crew Seeing Data and Geordi I definitely had tears in my eyes.

We don't know how lucky are to be witnessing all the original cast coming back to create something truly magical

I cannot wait to see how this ends

Please let these stories keep getting told

Star Trek Legacy I'm so on board for that.

The Bounty
Prismark1024 March 2023
So many callbacks for hard core Trekkies, it was hard to keep score.

I guess the best bit was at the fleet museum with the Defiant and Voyager and the accompanying themes. It gives Jack a moment to gush over the starships even though he has no time for Starfleet.

The callbacks were strictly for fans. The obvious example being the brief return of Moriarty. The brief flashbacks of a younger Riker from The Next Generation leading to the introduction of a new Data.

With the Titan hunted by the rest of Starfleet. Picard goes to see an old friend Geordi La Forge who runs the fleet museum. He is reluctant to help as he does not want to place his daughters in harm's way.

Meanwhile Riker, Raffi and Worf break into the Daystrom Station to find out just what was taken by the Changelings.

Vadic has nefarious plans to get Picard and will go through all his contacts to get to him.

As the Next Generation band reunites slowly, characters like Captain Shaw were sidelined. Although enjoyable I did did think the main plot stuttered slightly due to all the fan service.

Amanda Plummer on the other hand out chewed the scenery more than her father ever did in Star Trek 6 in this episode.

Bounty?
vsek4 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Listen, sure this season is alright in many regards - but all these 10/10 ratings? Really? Especially this episode left a lot to be desired. Brought to you by Christopher Monfette, who got the "written by" credit for the season 2 finale.

I'll start with the biggest offender: meaningless fan service. Showing the Defiant or some monster tribble really detracts from the episode. These are not easter eggs - because they are not hidden but center frame accompanied by a musical sting. Don't they have enough story for 10 episodes so they have to produce filler? Please stop with that or weave it into the episode in meaningful ways. Or is Star Trek just a collection of things we know now? Should we clap like idiots for every reference or fanfare?

The whole Daystrom story is preposterous, the only security (for the Federations most dangerous tech??) is a defunct AI with personality disorder and the security measure consists of a raven flying around and a holographic Sherlock Holmes villain shooting bullets from an ancient revolver?????

And to deactivate you have to whistle an old tune that nobody knows except Riker and Data?

One has to wonder if Section 31 personnel are walking around whistling alle the time.

It's so dark on that station, the viewer might be confused, because from the outside, at Daystrom station every window is lit. Every. Single. One.

This universe seems very small, also. Everybody knows everybody and everywhere is deserted: Daystrom station, the fleet museum and distances don't matter. Vadic jumps in what I estimate to be a day or so to Nepenthe, kidnaps Deana Troi and back.

Why would a changeling morph into a chain-smoking, leather coat wearing villain with a bad oily hairstyle, symmetrical face scars and bad teeth? If you bring all the nostalgia in, why not the fact that Changelings HATE solids. Why would they smoke and impersonate a cartoon villain 24/7 on their own ship?

Is all Starfleet corrupted? I mean there isn't a resistance somewhere? Are there ships without changelings on board?

But one of the biggest head scratchers is Berverly. The doctor never scanned her son for genetic illnesses???? Given his fathers medical history, one would assume that this is standard procedure in the late 24th century.

Very strange and clunky.

Stealing the Cloaking Device really went too easily. I mean they steal it off-camera without alarms going off and no chief engineer of the Titan (is there such a person even?) that asks what the hell is going on?

It seems like a TOS-era movie with the TNG cast. It meshes just so-so inn my opinion. Is it the same problem as with the ENTERPRISE finale?

And please get on with Jack's visions! Stop dragging this out. It's not believable that he doesn't tell anyone - not even his mother??

Other than that, it's still way better than the train wreck that was season 2.

Child- parent relationships, history, lore it is all there!
SofiaAndromeda23 March 2023
My first review, just because I need to for the postiive..

Child- parent relationships, history, lore it is all there.

So much Star Trek coming together fitting in one episode.. how did they manage to pull that off? You really need to sit down a while contemplating everything what has come to pass. By far.

Yes I know I am biassed, and probably if you are new to the Star Trek Universe I am unable to imagine how this episode might be for you.. ..but if you are, this is possibly by far the episode of all doing just to everything what has been out there.

If you are in for a tear or two.. just engage ;).

Can't wait for next week!

So much nostalgia.
timswain-1867225 March 2023
The reunion of old friends and the emergence of new friends is amazing. When the old crew met up with each other again after so many years, its been amazing to watch. To bring in picards son and the daughters of the great gordie la forge, this is amzing, this season is truly passing the torch to the next generation and the chapter of the old generation is closing after so many years, this has needed to come for a long time. This season brings so many possiblities for new and future trek shows, one where the kids of picard and la forge can be apart of it. The next generation, the legacies of known characters.

Episode 6 raised the bar again
jp757024 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 6 finally brings together practically all of the ST:NG crew (except for Wesley Crusher) and they all have meaningful roles, not just cameos. But the real easter eggs await on the Daystrom Station.

WARNING - MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD

Daystrom Station is where Starfleet stores its most secret tech and "weapons". This includes a genetically-modified tribble (that still hates Klingons), a Genesis II device (a modification of the original Genesis device from "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"), and for some reason they are storing the skeletal remains of one James T. Kirk! (Will Shatner finally make an appearance?) And at the center of it all is a new version of an AI android that now houses the memories of Data, Lore, B4 Lal, and Soong. This new version of Data conjures up Professor Moriarity as a security device (Daniel Davis reprises the same role he played on ST:NG in 1988 and 1993). And there is yet another callback to "Encounter at Farpoint", this time where Ricker whistles the end of "Pop! Goes the Weasel&". Wow! (Ricker apparently has perfect pitch.)

(A passing reference is made that Daystrom Station is home to Starfleet Intelligence's Section 31. A new Section 31 series is supposedly in the works, so could this be the introduction to the new show's new home? Time will tell.)

More easter eggs await the Fleet Museum at Athan Prime. Here we see docked a "who's who" of starships - the Defiant, Voyager, the Enterprise (1701-A, with those "retro lines"), and a bird of prey named the HMS Bounty from "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" (even Shaw knows about the whales). And it is that ship that provides a critical and illegal piece of tech - the cloaking device - that allows the Titan to elude renegade Starfleet starships. Former engineer (now Captain) Shaw gets all fanboy over meeting Geordi , who runs the museum.

But alas, Ricker is captured by Vadic at the end, who is holding Troi hostage (or is she also a changeling?). But we do find out what was stolen from Daystrom, the manifest being stored inside the new Data's positronic brain. His eyes are also a digital projector and we see what was the big things that's stolen - Picard's human remains. (What is it with Dayton and the remains of captains bodies?)

Now with only 48 hours to the climactic Frontier Day (and only 4 episodes left), Season 3 of ST:Picard is racing to its conclusion. I wasn't overly critical of the first two seasons, but I wish they had been at this level of story-telling, call-backs, and reunions. Excellent episode and can't wait for the Final Four (episodes that is).

What I LOVE. What I could do with less of.
Pimilli26 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Love:

Love the band getting back together Love the pacing The knowledge and deep history of 60 years of Star Trek and organically incorporating it with depth and not just fan service. Everything we see from TOS, the movies, DS9, Voyager, and TNG, even possible Enterprise, has a purpose here that never makes us feel like it's just unearned sugar.

Love the hiding behind the moon like Trek 2 Love the believable relationship between LaForge and his daughters Love the composer.

Love that any 3 or 4 episodes feels like a TNG feature Love that Picard feels closer to who he is as a character Love the Moriarty "Pop Goes The Weasel" scene.

Love Riker's character. Love his callback to meeting Data.

Love the genetically modified tribble. Because yeah that's about what Section 31 would do. Imagine dropping a bunch of those things on an enemy planet. Wow.

Love Data being in semi-human form. Yeah just let him age. No more trying to make an actor look like an android from the mid-90s.

Love, love the ship museum.

LOVE that I suspect Geordi is restoring the Enterprise D. Likely got the saucer section, also remember Picard says send Geordi the painting of the Enterprise D. Hanger Bay 12? That will likely be the payoff.

Love the creative use of The Bounty's cloaking device.

Love the Kirk scans and what it may mean.

This is all smart. Smart. And well researched. It is a deep dive into everything Trek of the last 60 years. Finally we have something that feels like respect for the audience. I haven't felt this in 20 years.

Love the scenes with Jack and Seven looking at the ships.

Don't Love: The scenes with Picard and his son. Ugh. The angst. The hurt the whatever. I'm just not sold and don't care as much. He'll be fine. Let's move on.

Really don't love the villain played by Amanda Plummer. The moustache twirling, the "I'll get you my pretty" stuff. I just try to skip over all her "I'll hunt you down blah blah" parts. Nobody cares.

Seven and Raffi. Don't care. But only because I just don't believe in Raffi as a character and the actor has something to do with that. It's distracting. Less distracting than last season, but better.

Why are they standing around talking to a hologram with a gun? Move.

Overall, I love this season. Love it.

Finally, real Star Trek
thavash25 March 2023
Star Trek Picard season 3 has been a revelation.

This feels like Season 8 of The Next Generation.

While we're halfway through the season, this has been a nostalgic and enjoyable ride so far, and I can tell you that many Star Trek fans like myself will definitely be re-watching the entire season.

The difference between Picard S03 and the rest of NuTrek, is that its actually enjoyable. There is a great story arc that keeps us guessing from episode to episode, the writing is good, there is subtle humour in there, and of course, its good seeing the old actors again, most of whom deliver good performances.

To the series creators if you're reading this - if you want to make money, then you need to keep delivering exactly this. Even Strange New Worlds does not feel as good as this.

What Star Trek fans want : 1) Good writing and acting ( you can obviously being in new characters for future shows, but the same quality) 2) The show needs to feel like its set in the future, not with people from the current day in space ( ie. The way they speak ) 3) Don't insult our intelligence by only delivering mindless action

Where Picard Season 3 could improve 1) There's too much camera shake 2) The sets are too dark ( yes I prefer the look and feel of TNG, and most others as well ) 3) We did'nt have too many intellectual episiodes ( perhaps you need a larger season for that )

Give us the above and you will make money.

One last thing , I consider Picard Season 3 to be the first new canon since the end of Enterprise. Non of NuTrek even the movies is canon.

Anyway I hope Star Trek can continue down this path.

This is PERFECT
gy-att24 March 2023
Man, I don't even know where to start. This TV Series is perfect. The story is amazing, the cast, oh dear, I am tearing. I am wiping my eyes and I am thinking, how would I be able to watch any more Star Trek stories after this? How could anyone top this? Do I care what is after this? This is what I needed, this is what I needed, this is what Star Wars would need, this is what Marvel would need this is what Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings need. I will watch this story for over and over again. This almost 40 years old Next Generation is the New Generation. I am thrilled and also sad to see how this superb story will conclude.

Best of Picard Series
donnapf-859501 April 2023
Best Episode, Best Reunion (under bad story circumstances).

I love how they made the museum; it brings back memories from a previous decade. Especially when they said bring the bird of prey from the bottom of the river, the body of Kirk, everything with a nice logic of story telling.

The 'new' Data also came with a nice story and a good reason.

Overall, in my opinion, They really need to get Star Trek back to its roots. No need to try harder, like bringing an alternative timeline or a soap opera where the ladies cried across the universe.

As simple as "Strange New World" can bring the warmth back.

Additional Log: As you can see, comparing only one of these Picard episode with an alternate timeline movie (2009) is just like comparing Heaven (for Picard) with a sewer.

"Bring your Child to Work Day"
onikage-4932424 March 2023
It is really incredible how good this show is when you think of the past 2 seasons. Episode after Episode of Season 3 have been amazing watches that are a MUST see for any fan of Star Trek's shows from the 90s.

This episode is has a lot of the Parent-Child dynamic at the "workplace" that is very well written. The amount of Easter Eggs and Fan Service is probably the most in this episode than any of the others so far.

The plot advances a lot in this episode, most shows would make 3 episodes out of everything that happens by intentionally dragging it out. Not this show, which proves that they care about the fans and want to respect our time.

Can't say too much without spoiling, but the reunions and interactions between characters are very interesting and even hilarious at times. Riker and Worf have the funniest moments in their quips to each other.

They're really setting a high bar for the rest of the season and big expectations of what else they'll bring back from the past.

I think people who have never seen Star Trek before will really enjoy this show too, but honestly the target demo is the nostalgia fanbase and I'm fine with that as long as they do a good job.

Barclay, Yar, and Jellico next please
snoozejonc16 April 2023
The crew visit the Daystrom Station and reconnect with more familiar faces.

This is an enjoyable episode that does the necessary character reintroductions whilst taking time to pause for Star Trek nostalgia.

Those who appreciate a bit of fan service should like this one. Most of the TNG band are back together, along with Voyager's most popular character, and they have a high stake mission that involves references to DS9's best storyline. Certain storylines from previous seasons are undermined, but even dead characters will not get in the way of what the showrunners want to put on screen.

Some aspects feel a bit forced, such as one reluctant character who puts up a fight to avoid getting involved, but it's all in keeping with themes of parenthood and legacy. You would think this individual would be against their offspring going anywhere near Starfleet if personal safety was that big a deal.

Jack Crusher's arc continues to drip feed information in a mysterious way. This will need a strong payoff in the later episodes, given how much time we have to spend listening to him self-obsess.

All actors are on great form and the production values continue to be strong.

Fan Service Overload detected
bnevs1824 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After giving this season's episodes all good grades, this one just reaked of too much fanservice. Its good to get some (weaponized tribbles anyone?), but we get Moriarty, Lal, B4, Data, Lor, Geordi, Troi, Picard's Body, Kirk's body(!), Voyager, the Original Enterprise, the ST4's Bounty, the Titan, and on and on. There's a difference between using fanservice as a feature and using it as a crutch.

Additionally, the amount of contrivances is pushing into overload. Geordi decides to sacrifice the Federation to nominally protect his family? Noone raises enough of objection to networking all the Starfleet ships and bringing them all together for a festival? The most heavily guarded station in the Federation has a security detail of a couple redshirts every hour?

Its looking more and more like STP will end up like Lost, with too many great storylines being posited with no clear resolution.

Staying on target

Another great episode! Six episodes in, it is now clear that season 3 of Picard will be regarded as the high point of the series. More than that, it is on track to being a standout for the Star Trek franchise.

This season is succeeding for the following reasons: the principle characters are written as logical versions of their older selves. Each episode has a satisfying story while advancing the larger narrative. The performances are great, especially Gates McFadden's Dr. Crusher, and notably we are treated to the best performances of Sir Patrick Stewart of the Picard series. You can really tell that Sir Patrick is connecting with the material here, and so the viewer will be treated to seeing some great Picard scenes in this series. It is now becoming apparent that every TNG character is given a meaningful story, something none of the movies were able to offer. If that weren't enough, this season is effectively a sequel, a love letter, to TNG, DS9, and Voyager. Finally, the music score is amazing, another love letter to the franchise.

Thank you to show runner Terry Matalas for giving this crew the sendoff they deserved, for understanding Star Trek, and here's hoping the powers that be see fit to let him continue to play in this universe.

Geordi racer.

Season three of "Picard" continues to be the show we wanted, rather than the one provided for the last couple of seasons and this one has more returning characters and countless references to the wider Star Trek adventures.

With Raffi (Michelle Hurd) and Worf (Michael Dorn) on board, the crew of the Titan pool their information and arrive at a plan. They head to the Daystrom facility, to attempt to discover what weapon, worse than the portal gun, could also have been stolen in the raid. Raffi, Worf and Riker (Jonathan Frakes) board the station but are met by a difficult yet oddly familiar security system. Meanwhile the Titan has to escape, so leaps to the Starfleet Museum, where Geordi La Forge (Levar Burton) is less than pleased to see his old crew.

So, there were lots and lots of references to the wider Star Trek Universe in this one, ranging from attack tribbles and the Genesis bomb, all the way up to seeing Voyager and Kirk's Enterprise. Each of these is accompanied by a little sting of the theme tunes associated with them, which, lets be honest, is cheesy as hell, but it made me smile and I'd imagine anyone that's stayed with "Picard" this long would feel the same. Two more characters return to the fold too. Brent Spiner has been in the series before though, with a Doctor Soong featuring heavily in the second season, he's back as another new character here, a blend of Data, Lore and Doctor Soong and with a new body (and slightly ropey explanation for why the character has aged). Levar Burton returns too though, for the first time in twenty years - not counting a couple of video game appearances.

It's not just a reference fest though, the episode pushes on the stories and does some work explaining what's going on. Jack's visions are, hopefully, under control - though whenever you hear about a character having a terminal condition, it always implies to me that a valiant sacrifice is coming, particularly as he's starting to flirt with La Forge's daughter. There's a pretty clever action scene, Vadic kills one of her own men - classic villain behaviour and we learn what the other theft from the station was - which offers more questions than answers.

Still good stuff.
