While Ryan Coogler’s reputation in Hollywood is quite spectacular, the regard given to him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is at another level. He helped the franchise get its first two Oscar wins, as well as numerous award nominations, all through the masterpiece that was Black Panther. Arguably one of the best Marvel films to date, the project not only had an excellent director, but it also had some of the most talented people in the industry as a part of its cast and crew.
Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther
Considering how much acclaim the film got, it is not surprising that many trust the filmmaker with the movies that he makes. After the follow-up film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it was expected that he would finish the trilogy. Bob Iger On MCU Content(Photo Credit –Twitter/IMDb)
After “Avengers: Endgame”, Marvel has released numerous movies and series to keep their fandom engaged. However, following the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, only a few of these titles have received positive reviews. Among the well-received films are “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” In terms of series, “WandaVision,” “Loki,” and “What If…?” have managed to captivate viewers. Bob Iger has finally got into action to implement a new strategy.
Many Marvel fans have voiced concerns that recent stories lack the impact of earlier instalments. In the past, Marvel Entertainment typically released only 1-2 movies per year, each with a strong narrative, compelling villains, and memorable moments. Now, Disney CEO Bob Iger has made a significant decision regarding the future of MCU content.

Comments from Disney CEO Bob Iger following its most recent earnings report could be interpreted as a sign that Disney wants to bring linear and digital entertainment closer.
The Disney Bundle is resembling the old cable bundle more and more every day. Viewers can already access entertainment from both Disney+ and Hulu within the Disney+ app, and company CEO Bob Iger promised on Tuesday that select sports content from ESPN will arrive on the streamer before the end of 2024, ahead of a wider sports integration next year. Speaking with Wall Street analysts as part of Disney’s quarterly earnings report, Iger touted the flexibility of his platforms and pointed to shows like “Shōgun” as proof that his linear channels are working well in concert with his streamers. That’s a far cry from the tone Iger took regarding networks like ABC in summer of 2023, and the shift could signal that...

Marvel had a rough year in 2023. Many of its properties underperformed, and they lost their big villain due to Jonathan Majors being fired. Looking forward to their upcoming slate, comic fans have been excited about some of the studio’s projects over the next few years. Will these films help Marvel regain control? The upcoming Thunderbolts film has been one that fanboys have been hoping to see since the MCU started. With some recent news about the property coming up, it seems like the right time to break down what we know about the production.
Who Are The Thunderbolts?
The team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1997 in an issue of The Incredible Hulk. They seemed to be a new group of superheroes that had arrived on the scene and gained acclaim very quickly. The reader was informed that the group was actually a group of supervillains led by Baron Zemo.

The universe of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has kept the fans engrossed in the arc of John Dutton and his clan for virtually a century. From 1923 to 2024, the legacy and time-honored traditions of the Dutton clan have fascinated the audience for years and now, the time has finally come to bid goodbye to the original series that started it all — from Taylor Sheridan’s rise to popularity to Kevin Costner’s return to fame.

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a strange time for the franchise. The post-"Avengers: Endgame" era saw Kevin Feige and co. trying to shepherd the concept of the multiverse into our collective consciousness while simultaneously introducing a host of new heroes and somewhat reinventing the MCU for a new generation. Much of it worked well, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" holding things down on the cinematic front. Meanwhile, "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye" made a good case for the McU's streaming age being a good development — a case that was later ruined by the poorly-reviewed "Secret Invasion."
But for every good entry in Phase 4, there was a "Thor: Love and Thunder" or a "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" to undermine them. Thankfully, Phase 4 will always remain beloved for introducing us to one of the best arguments for the MCU expanding into the world of streaming television: "Loki.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Daisy Ridley shot to fame as the leading protagonist Rey in Star Wars’ sequel trilogy. She shared screen space with newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, as well as Star Wars veterans such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford in the films. The films were divisive in their responses, with creator George Lucas himself not being a fan.

However, she will be returning as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film. Ridley mentioned that she almost manifested a Rey-centered film right before meeting with LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy.

When prospective students of the University of Southern California visit the school, tour guides like to point out several noteworthy landmarks on campus: Heritage Hall and its multiple Heisman trophies on display, the symbolic Tommy Trojan statue and Norris Cinema Theatre, where students of all majors congregate each Thursday night to watch and discuss cinema with famed film critic Leonard Maltin.
The class, officially titled Ctcs-466: Theatrical Film Symposium, was founded by a fellow critic, Arthur Knight, in the early 1960s. He proposed filmmakers bring their latest work to campus for youthful, eager minds to absorb and discuss. Stewardship of the class passed to L.A. Times critic Charles Champlin in 1985, and eventually, the opportunity to take over one of USC’s most popular electives was presented to Maltin.

Visual effects studio Digital Domain is introducing a new version of its Masquerade facial motion capture system, which eliminates the need for actors to wear tracking markers on their faces during production. Cto Hanno Basse tells Variety that the company is sharing the development with customers and “we’re probably going to do several projects this year” using the tech.
A bit of history: Earlier versions of Masquerade were used by Digital Domain to enable Josh Brolin to play Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” and Tatiana Maslany to portray the titular “She Hulk.”
Basse believes that by eliminating the need to use tracking markers, Masquerade3 can save time and money while getting a more precise performance.

At the 95th Academy Awards (honoring the cinematic achievements of 2022), there were two notable surprises in the technical categories. The first occurred when “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” nabbed the Oscar for Best Costume Design, beating out the the heavily favored “Elvis” as well as “Babylon.” The second occurred when “All Quiet on the Western Front” claimed the prize for Best Production Design, defeating Gold Derby odds leader “Babylon” in addition to both “Elvis” and “Avatar: The Way of Water.” Anyone who predicted either of those two upsets outsmarted the vast majority of Gold Derby users.
At last month’s 96th Academy Awards, we didn’t see any similar out-of-left-field choices in any of the tech categories. The closest thing to a curveball was arguably “The Zone of Interest” winning the Oscar for Best Sound, overcoming the night’s eventual Best Picture champion, “Oppenheimer.” So how did “Zone” do it? Here are five reasons why.

The Fantastic Four are called Marvel’s First Family because, well, they actually are. Back in 1961, the company formerly known as Timely Comics transitioned into Marvel Comics. They kept some of their titles, such as Journey Into Mystery, but began a new approach to superhero comics with The Fantastic Four. These new titles would show the internal drama between the characters and not just their superheroics. After these characters became a big hit, the company created other heroes such as The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, and Iron Man.
Fox would end up with the movie rights to bring these characters to the big screen but ultimately would produce content that really didn’t live up to what the comics promised. After four attempts (ironic), the rights have finally reverted back to Marvel Studios through Disney’s purchase of Twentieth Century Studios. Now that the MCU is around, fans are interested in...

When it arrived in theaters in January, the remastered 1981 concert was Imax’s biggest exclusive engagement. Now, it will debut on Disney+ alongside 18 Marvel films that will also be offered with Imax Enhanced sound on supported devices, Imax’s senior VP and head of Imax post and image capture Bruce Markoe announced during a panel Sunday at the Nab Show in Las Vegas.
The original concerts, featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, took place over two consecutive nights in November 1981, and were arranged specifically to be filmed for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The performance includes classics such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love.” It was restored for Imax by Mercury Studios.

Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is being described as both a genre picture and a period piece that Coogler will be directing and Jordan is attached to star in. The project is set up at Warner Bros., is expected to have a budget of around $90 million, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025. Marvel Studios has already experienced overwhelmingly positive responses for its recent projects featuring X-Men characters. The latest animated project, X-Men ’97, seems to have taken off with the audience, and fans largely look forward to Deadpool & Wolverine releasing in July this year. After the end of the strikes last year, it was reported that Marvel was meeting with writers for pitches on an X-Men live-action movie. An industry insider now has an update regarding the same.
X-Men ’97 is one of the first X-Men projects in the MCU, but it is not canon to Earth-616
According to earlier speculations, the film was supposed to begin production in the latter half of 2025. However, the insider reports that the filming for the Avengers movies in the Multiverse Saga finale will precede any planned X-Men movie project.

About two and a half years have gone by since it was announced that Delroy Lindo – whose credits include Get Shorty, Da 5 Bloods, The Core, Malcolm X, and The Harder They Fall (plus more than 65 others) – had signed on to join Mahershala Ali in the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade. While we wait to see if that Lindo will still be in that vampire hunter movie when it finally goes into production, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Lindo has been cast in the mysterious genre project that’s coming our way from frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. In March 2019, Marvel Studios acquired the film rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool following Disney’s purchase of Fox for $71.3 billion.
These characters are set to become part of the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were relabeled as “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels’. Additionally, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ a sequel to ‘Deadpool 2,’ will introduce Deadpool and Wolverine variant, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, into the MCU continuity.

It began with 2008’s “Iron Man,” a film that introduced the world to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark with the hint that he could be part of something greater. Thirty-two films later, the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still being told, albeit with various tributaries and detours that introduce new characters and new worlds that may or may not cross paths one day. Each film in the MCU stands on its own to some degree, but like building blocks, they all connect as part of one interconnected universe. And in that way, watching the Marvel movies in order tells one grand story.

Ryan Coogler is in a purple state of mind, as the filmmaker is working on a Prince-focused feature musical.
Coogler is attached to produce an untitled jukebox musical of Prince songs for Universal Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project, which has been in development since 2018, hails from Proximity Media and has a script by Bryan Edward Hill.
Producers include Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian and Universal Music Publishing Group chair Jody Gerson. Proximity’s Rebecca Cho is an executive producer.
THR reported earlier this week that Coogler’s forthcoming untitled Warner Bros. feature that stars Michael B. Jordan is set for release on March 7, 2025, with the studio having landed the coveted project in February after a bidding war. More recently, Coogler directed the 2022 Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

A 300-seat theater on Southeast Division Street in Portland with a curious past is giving notable talents such as David Byrne and Ruth E. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is being described as a genre picture that Coogler will be directing and Jordan is attached to star in. The movie found a home at Warner Bros., and we’ve heard that it’s expected to have a budget of $90 million. Now we know when Warner Bros. is going to send it out into the world, as Deadline reports that it’s scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025.

Ryan Coogler has a date to return to movie theaters. Warner Bros. has set a March 7, 2025 release for the project, which will star Michael B. Jordan and arrive in Imax.
The film is untitled, but true to Coogler form, it is described as an event film. Coogler is producing via Proximity Media with Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. One of Coogler’s frequent collaborators, composer Ludwig Göransson, will executive produce with Rebecca Cho and Will Greenfield. Göransson, who earlier this month won the Oscar for best score for his work on Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, also won the Oscar for Coogler’s Black Panther.
Warner Bros. landed the project in February after a bidding war and under a unique deal that will see Coogler regain some rights to the project after a number of years. Coogler is eying a production date this spring in New Orleans.

When the character Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne) made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the idea was that we’d be seeing the character again the following year in her own Disney+ show Ironheart… but 2023 came and went without Ironheart, and the show still doesn’t have an official premiere date. This has caused some fans to speculate that Marvel and Disney+ might have decided to scrap Ironheart, along with the series Wonder Man, which had Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking on the role of the title character, who is also known as Simon Williams and hasn’t been seen in the MCU yet. But no, Ironheart and Wonder Man are not being scrapped, and in a new interview with Agents of Fandom, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum described the shows as spectacular, amazing, and different.
