The acting is bad in English, and even worse in Norwegian. Very fun, though! Hallmark has struck gold here in Norway with this so-bad-it's-good gem which has been the talk of every Christmas party I've been to this season. 3/10

27.01. Klingenberg kino, Sal 2. First time.
While it lacks the endearing protagonists of Myazaki's earlier works, and also the natural flow and evolution of those stories, the magic and wonder brought me back to the fairytales and fantasy books of my childhood, and I really enjoyed that experience. And it was really refreshing to have no idea what was going to happen next! 7/10

09.12. Vega Scene, Sal 1. First time.
Now this is a film! The first two thirds of the film were incredibly cinematic in a way that you rarely ever see these days, even in the really good films. I really loved the cinematography and the acting. It loses some steam in the end, but with the turn the story takes, I suppose that's natural. It felt true to life, and how it (probably often) just ebbs out. 8.5/10

Votes: 170,565 | Gross: $95.85M
08.12. HBO Max on TV. First time.
Not as offensively in-your-face-bad as the second film, because my expectations were set for zero, but it's still a bunch of insignificant nonsense. Dan Fogler remains the stand out star of the franchise, and the visual effects were very well executed, but the story is nothing and I just don't care. Good to finally have watched it so I can put it out of my mind forever. 4/10
12. There's Something in the Barn (2023)

Director: Magnus Martens | Stars: Martin Starr, Amrita Acharia, Kiran Shah, Townes Bunner
Votes: 4,263
08.12. Colosseum kino, Sal 1. First time.
A lot of funny inside jokes for Norwegians, but it kind of falls between two chairs as it's almost kids movie and almost a horror movie. I think it would have been better as just one of these things, and I think the premise of an American family learning about their barn elf is probably better suited for a straight up family movie. 5/10

Lily Gladstone is the heart and life of this film. I'm very happy to see another good David Grann adaptation after "The Old Man and the Gun", but despite all of Marty's talk of saving cinema, it didn't feel that "cinematic". It's well made and engaging, but it's not a cinematic masterpiece. 7.5/10

This wasn't the thoughtful meditation on A.I. or journey through beautiful landscapes I thought it would be based on the poster. It's ok, with a lot of recycling of elements from "Rogue One" and a lot of rather stupid plotholes and illogical characterisations. John David Washington isn't a very charismatic leading man, but Madeleine Yuna Voyles almost makes up for that, with her very impressive debut role. She is definitely the heart of the film. 6/10

What a fantastic film! I'm glad I didn't watch it before reading David Grann's "The Wager" this Summer, so I could appreciate all the historical details that were in place for this film. The whole film looks incredibly real, and the scenes in storms and high waves were astonishing! And the cast is splendid. I haven't watched a Russel Crowe movie in ages, but I don't remember him ever being this good, with all his little quirks and mannerisms, combined with that strong conviction. I'm glad I bought this on blu-ray, because I will definitely be watching it again many times! 9/10

The main character's oblivious douchebagness before going to Lunana is very on the nose, but the experience once he arrives is wonderful. The majestic mountain vistas are stunning, and spending a few months teaching in a remote village like this seems like a dream. There's a strong possibility the whole film is just bhutanese propaganda, but hey, maybe they're on to something. 7.5/10

What a journey! This felt like a very healthy film to watch, as it had a lot of good things to say, and more importantly, to show. The only things that dragged it a little down (from a 9 or 10 to an 8) was that Sylvain Tesson sometimes lays it on a little too thick with his poetic musings, so the occasional sentence strikes a wrong cord, but most of what the pair of them has to say is thought provoking and poignant. The other thing that distanced me a tad from the experience was the fact that they never acknowledge the camerawoman who is doing all of this with them. As this film is all about the experience of going into the mountains to film and photograph animals, it felt a little strange to pretend they're only two people doing this, when they're actually three. Those are minor gripes, though, and I'm going to be recommending to watch this film to everyone I'm talking to for a good while. 8/10

Of course the guy who played the lead was also the writer/director. I had a suspicion, as the film seemed way more into its main character than he deserved.
