“There are certain rules one must abide by to survive a horror movie,” explains Randy (Jamie Kennedy) in Wes Craven’s 1996 post-mo slasher revival Scream. “Number one: You can never have sex.” Sex and horror movies go together more naturally than just about any else in pop culture, right up there with,...

Like Spirit Halloween seizing a once-beloved store, Silver Scream Con moved into the old stomping grounds of Rock and Shock — New England’s premier horror convention, which came to an end in 2019 — at the Dcu Center in Worcester, Ma for its three-quel on September 13-15.
It was a full circle moment for Silver Scream mastermind and Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas, whose experiences attending Rock and Shock inspired him to start his own convention. Having quickly outgrown its previous venue, the Doubletree hotel in Danvers, Silver Scream Con III’s new setting was able to accommodate even more horror fans for three days of horror, music, gore, and more.
The guest list included: Scream‘s David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, and Lee Waddell; Cabin Fever‘s Eli Roth, Cerina Vincent, and Jordan Ladd; Terrifier‘s Damien Leone, David Howard Thornton, Lauren Lavera, Elliott Fullam, and Amelie McLain; Halloween‘s Nick Castle,...

Boss Team Games recently worked with Saber Interactive, Renaissance Pictures, Studiocanal, MGM, and Lionsgate to bring fans Evil Dead: The Game, a cool project that stopped developing new content surprisingly soon after it was released. Now Boss Team Games has moved on to a different popular horror franchise, as IGN reports that they’re working on two video games based on the 1978 classic Halloween!
Details on these Halloween games are scarce at this point, but IGN was able to confirm that Boss Team Games are developing them in collaboration with the producers of the Halloween franchise. They also learned that one of the games is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and will include input from original Halloween John Carpenter. Carpenter, who is said to be “intimately involved” with the project, provided the following statement: “As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game,...

Michael Myers of the "Halloween" franchise is the go-to example for a faceless slasher villain. In director John Carpenter's original 1978 picture, actor Nick Castle is credited not as playing "Michael Myers" but as "The Shape" — Michael is an extension of the shadows, stretching out to kill on pure instinct before receding back into the darkness where he belongs.
In that original "Halloween," five people are murdered by the Shape:
Michael's older sister Judith (Sandy Johnson) in the movie's opening flashback.
The offscreen Christopher Hastings, who Michael kills to steal clothes after he escapes the sanitarium.
Teenager babysitter Annie Brackett (Nancy Kyes), who has her throat garrotted and cut.
Bob Simms (John Michael Graham), who is dressed as a ghost for the holiday.
Lynda Van Der Klok (P.J. Soles), Bob's girlfriend who Michael ambushes by wearing his ghost costume.
Michael is a dispassionate killer; he slices Annie's neck with a quick strike,...

"Carrie" is the book that put Stephen King on the map. When King wrote it, he was struggling financially, eking out a living selling short stories and teaching high school. Then he sat down to write what was first a short story that turned into a novella that turned into a novel. The novel was "Carrie," the story of a bullied teenage girl with telekinesis. The book wasn't a blockbuster when it was published in hardcover, but by the time it hit paperback, it flew off the shelves and King was on his way to becoming one of the best-selling novelists of all time. Sure enough, Hollywood came calling. The book was published in 1974, and by 1976, Brian De Palma's dreamy film adaptation arrived in theaters, starring Sissy Spacek as poor, doomed Carrie White, a girl who is tormented by pretty much everyone, including her Bible-loving mother (played by Piper Laurie) and her classmates.

There's a billion bits of "Star Wars" trivia out there, but one of my favorites is actually from before a single foot of film ran through the camera. You have to remember that, though "Star Wars" is a multi-billion dollar IP now, the original film barely got made. George Lucas had success with "American Graffiti," but this was a script that nobody in Hollywood understood, even Alan Ladd Jr., the Fox exec who gave the film a greenlight.
Lucas's world-building impressed most people, but they just didn't understand the technobabble jargon in a genre that was predominantly either super serious like "2001" or extra campy like "Barbarella." "Star Wars" existed somewhere between the two and that threw everybody, from studio execs to the actors auditioning for the movie, for a loop.
This was also an era pre-internet, so when Hamill went in to his first meeting for the role of Luke Skywalker...

There's a lot of surprising things about David Gordon Green's "Halloween Kills," and not all of them are good surprising. There is, however, a very random, very weird, and very neat easter egg hidden in the movie that a lot of fans missed on first viewing: Bob Odenkirk's cameo.
Yes, Bob "Better Call Saul" Odenkirk (or Bob "Mr. Show" Odenkirk if you're an ancient one like yours truly), shows up in "Halloween Kills" ... kinda. You may remember the bar scene where the residents of Haddonfield gather to remember that awful night in 1978 when Michael Myers first returned home. They're alerted to a new series of killings via a news report that then calls back to those killed 40 years prior. You see pictures of Pj Soles as Lynda and her sweet departed boyfriend Bob, except the nerdy high school yearbook picture they used isn't the original actor John Michael Graham,...

Who doesn’t love a good side character?
Side characters – or secondary characters – are usually those funny guys and gals who hang around our leads and give us moments of levity and brevity as the movie unravels.
More often than not, as the credits roll on these films, we sometimes end up loving the secondary characters more than the primary characters, as they’re many times the most memorable things from not-so-memorable movies. Even still, in horror, particularly slasher films, side characters are crucially instrumental components of rounding out these movies where the kills and death sequences take more of an immediate focus than the story itself.
Admittedly, remarkable secondary characters for the Halloween franchise may not be as apparent as other big slasher series. More often than not, the most revered and cherished characters are our favorite final ladies, Laurie and Jamie Strode, the caring Doctor Sam Loomis, or the malevolent Shape itself,...

It has been 45 years since the release of John Carpenter’s Halloween. And while there are so many unique approaches to celebrating the occasion – killing your babysitter, purchasing Laurie Strode’s house, etc. – there is now yet another way. Debuting at the H45: 45 Years of Terror convention, new prints that bring Michael Myers to Riverdale (or is it Archie to Haddonfield?) is the crossover you had no idea had been inked into existence.
The Halloween / Archie crossover is part of the Archie Horror line, which launched in 2015. While there won’t be a run of comic books themselves, the great Matt Talbot has designed two special prints that will be featured at the aforementioned con. On the work, Talbot said, “Every so often, if you’re really fortunate, a dream project comes along—and this was one of those times. The Archie gang… meeting up with Michael Myers? When...

Legendary actor Harrison Ford’s storied filmography includes eighty five acting credits. Do you know how many of those eighty five performances came from horror films? Two. For the sake of comparison, he’ll be playing Indiana Jones for the Fifth time this week! One of these horror rarities came in 2000’s What Lies Beneath starring Ford opposite Michelle Pfeiffer and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The other? A made for TV, The Exorcist inspired 1977 film called The Possessed. The last film Ford would make before Star Wars, which would of course turn him into one of the world’s biggest movie stars that very same year.
Available on DVD, The Possessed isn’t terribly difficult to locate for a forty something year old TV movie. The quality is a little shaky and grainy but it only serves to add to the whole “church with carpets haunted by cigarette smoke” vibe...

During the festivities, I also happened to stumble across video of an old interview with Carpenter, one that was conducted on the set of the 1978 classic Halloween (watch that Here) to be aired as an episode of Arena Cinema that was broadcast on BBC2 in early ’79. Coinciding with the British release of Halloween. This interview can be viewed in the embed at the bottom of this article.
Carpenter was at the beginning of his career at this point, having only two feature directing credits to his name: Dark Star and Assault on Precinct 13. So it’s interesting to hear his thoughts on film at the time. His appreciation for the works of Howard Hawks comes through during the conversation… and so does...

With the previous episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, we looked back at the 1982 Stephen King / George A. Romero classic Creepshow. With the new episode, we’re staying in King territory to dig into the making of the very first King adaptation, Brian De Palma’s 1976 classic Carrie (watch it Here). To find out what it took to bring King to the screen for the first time, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by De Palma from a screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen, Carrie has the following synopsis:
Withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross, Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually...

In 1996, "Scream" introduced viewers to the rules of slasher flicks, and even if they knew them already, even if they sat on the couch throwing popcorn at the screen and cursing every bad decision in every horror movie ever made, "Scream" put into words what moviegoers had always known. Horror movies are where seemingly well-grounded and intelligent individuals make stupid choices that often result in bloody death.
The pattern of human error found in all horror films is as universal as it is legendary, and the massively successful and constantly reinvented "Halloween" franchise is no exception. Since Michael Myers killed his sister, Judith, his path of carnage has been aided by what can lovingly be called the "kerfuffles" of some of his victims. In this article, we will honor some of the worst decisions characters have ever made in the "Halloween" franchise. There will be hot takes! There will be rants!

Teen horror typically explores issues only teens can relate to. Whether that's high school bullies, sex, or drugs, teen-centric films specialize in coming-of-age in the modern world. Along with these themes, filmmakers slather on all the genre conventions, tropes, and murderous thrills we've come to expect. From sci-fi and black comedies to witches and straight-up slashers, teen horror runs the gamut and is often unhindered by genre boundaries. What it means to pass through puberty and how relationships evolve in the process frequently lie at the heart of a teen horror movie, and monsters are usually manifestations of personal traumas and transformation.
This list stretches from several '70s and '80s horror classics to contemporary fare, capturing the progression of teen stories. A smorgasbord of subgenres is celebrated as well, including supernatural horror, slashers, werewolf movies, and a whodunnit. Jamie Lee Curtis Wanted The Father Of Laurie Strode's Daughter To Be Someone Else In Halloween Kills
The final chapter of David Gordon Green's "Halloween" sequel trilogy is finally available, and if we could convert thoughts, opinions, and "takes" on the film swirling around online film communities into energy, we'd never have to rely on fossil fuels ever again. Dgg's "Halloween" trilogy saw the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as the ultimate final girl, Laurie Strode, four decades after her first showdown with The Shape in 1978. Laurie Strode was the quintessential girl next door, pining after a boy named Ben Tramer (who unfortunately gets 'sploded in "Halloween II") while her friends Annie (Nancy Kyes) and Lynda (P.J. Soles) happily enjoyed their doofus boyfriends. When we return to Laurie in 2018, she's single and living on her own in a paranoid survivalist compound away from most of Haddonfield, but has a grown daughter named Karen (Judy Greer) and a granddaughter named Allyson (Andi Matichak).

If the event you've ever played with a Rubix's Cube and thought you'd prefer more of a challenge, then Jamie Clayton has quite the contraption to share with you. After a string of movies based on Clive Barker's 1986 novella "The Hellbound Heart," most of which aren't that stellar, a reimagining of "Hellraiser" from director David Bruckner ("The Night House") will be streaming exclusively on Hulu within the coming weeks.
Although specific details on what Bruckner's film is going to be about, the film's synopsis indicates that whoever gets their hands on the Lament Configuration this time around is in for a very bad time with the hell demons known as the Cenobites:
In the all-new "Hellraiser," a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

The Movie: "Private Benjamin" (1980)
Where You Can Stream It: Showtime
The Pitch: Judy Benjamin (Goldie Hawn) has dreamed of one thing since she was eight years old, according to the film's opening title card: essentially, to be a wife. Specifically, "All I want [...] is a big house ... nice clothes, two closets, a live-in maid, and a professional man for a husband." "Private Benjamin" starts by giving Judy everything she's ever wanted, starting with a huge wedding to a professional man named Yale Goodman (played perfunctorily by Albert Brooks), who promptly dies while consummating their marriage later that same night.
Judy was a divorcée (she was previously married at 20) and widow by the age of 28. Her family didn't know what to do with her,...

P.J. Soles is celebrated by fans for her darker genre work, voice-over work, and comedic roles alike. She's crossed Carrie, she's been carjacked by Captain Spaulding, and she's one of the first teens killed by Michael Myers in John Carpenter's "Halloween." But few are quoted more than "Stripes," Ivan Reitman's 1981 knee-slapper starring Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. Soles plays Stella Hansen, the military police officer love interest to Murray's hapless soldier John Winger. The movie features an incredible cadre of talent (Warren Oates! John Candy! Sean Young! John Larroquette!) and takes the slacker-joins-the-Army conceit to the limits of its...

Dennis Quaid remains unfazed by comments surrounding the 39-year age difference between him and his fiancée Laura Savoie.
The 65-year-old actor — who proposed to Savoie, 26, last month — was recently profiled by The Guardian where he opened about receiving criticism for dating a younger woman.
“That was really a laugh,” he told the outlet about gaining so much attention over their relationship, admitting, “I thought it was wonderful, actually.”
He continued to reveal that despite some of the harmful comments Quaid has heard about the couple, the two don’t take it personally.
“No, it really doesn’t bother us,” he said.

We’ve got a trailer for a new indie Halloween-themed horror film for you to check out today called Candy Corn. I like the creepy vibe of the film as it tells the tale of a group of freaks who are out for blood and revenge in a small town during the Season of the Witch.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
It’s the eve of Halloween in Grove Hill, Ohio. A traveling carnival is in town for the weekend and local outcast, Jacob Atkins, has been hired as one of the freaks in the event’s main attraction, “Dr. Death’s Side Show Spook House Spectacular.” Meanwhile, a group of local bullies are planning their annual public hazing of Jacob, but this year, things go too far.

” Do your parents *know* that you’re Ramones? “

It’s amazing that actress P.J. Soles didn’t become a big star after playing Riff Randell, #1 fan of the punk rock group the Ramones, in Rock ‘N’ Roll High School in 1979. In the late 1970s, Roger Corman was looking to produce a high school-themed movie. Knowing that one of his young directing proteges had a bent for music, the head of New World Pictures had an idea. As Allan Arkush remembers Corman telling him: “I’ve been thinking, since ‘Grease’ and ‘Saturday Night Fever’ are hits, why don’t you put music in it and we’ll call it ‘Disco High’?”
Fortunately, as “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” took shape, cooler heads prevailed … and nothing could be cooler than the Ramones, then, in 1979, or now, even after most of the band members have passed on.
