Although the Best Structured Reality Program Emmy has only gone to two series (“Shark Tank” and “Queer Eye”) since being introduced in 2014, the corresponding unstructured award has been won by six different shows in the same stretch of time. “Love on the Spectrum” took the 2022 prize but is out of the running this time, leaving 2021 winner “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked” as the only show with a shot at pulling off the category’s first repeat victory in four years.
“Untucked” is one of three returning contenders in the current Best Unstructured Reality Program lineup, along with “Indian Matchmaking” and “Selling Sunset.” Both were bested by RuPaul’s series in 2021, while the latter also lost alongside it in 2022. Rounding out this bunch are “Vanderpump Rules,” which has finally broken through with Emmy voters after 10 seasons, and new show “Welcome to Wrexham,” which, according to Gold Derby’s odds, is heavily favored to win.

“Indian Matchmaking” had become a phenomenon since its first season was released in the year 2020, amidst the long lockdown when people had nothing better to do. All of us indulged in the show just like any other dating show, from the television days to the dating shows on the Ott platforms. The only difference here is that the show caters to only the arranged marriage setup, which is a common phenomenon not just in India but among the Indian diaspora living across the world. It was all about Seema Taparia, the most renowned matchmaker in the country, and her belief in arranged marriage, which made her a successful businesswoman in the field of matchmaking.
When the world is filled with dating applications where people are struggling to find a match for themselves that will stick with them forever, Seema Taparia guarantees success in her way of finding your perfect partner.

Smriti Mundhra, director of hit Netflix documentary series “The Romantics,” has said that the success of her show and of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” proves that audiences continue loving Bollywood.
The star-studded, four-part series features 35 leading voices of the Hindi-language film industry and dives into the history of Bollywood through the lens of the studio Yash Raj Films’ impact over the past 50 years in making the industry globally known. It bowed on Netflix on Feb. 14 and quickly entered the top 10 charts in nine countries.
A few days earlier, Yash Raj Films’ “Pathaan,” Khan’s comeback film, had a roaring debut and has grossed $125 million so far. The film and series reversed a two-year trend on social media where the Hindi film industry was trolled with the BoycottBollywood hashtag.
“After a dark period defined by bad faith attacks and global uncertainty around the theatrical business, it is amazing to see audiences embracing Bollywood again.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan along with Karan Johar, late actor Rishi Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan in ‘The Romantics’ open their hearts about how the Hindi film industry has the power to shape pop culture for India and Indians.
Shah Rukh feels Hindi cinema is part of our DNA and they spread joy and love in the world.
He says, “Our cinema is as much a part of our lives in India, as much as you wake up in the morning and brush your teeth. It’s just an inherent part of us. There’s beauty in the cinema that Indian filmmakers have stuck vis-a-vis music or keeping it still like a musical format.”
Karan Johar says our films try to depict the country’s culture in the most vibrant way possible.
He says: “We’re an incredible place. We’re a country of so many cultures and so many religions.

Smriti Mundhra, the creator of “Indian Matchmaking,” has launched a show called “The Romantics” on Netflix just in time for Valentine’s Day. The docuseries centers on a bastion of Hindi cinema, Yash Raj Films, which just released the smash hit “Pathaan.” Netflix releases the series day and date in India, the U.S. and around the world. And it is coming just as interest in films from the subcontinent are piquing international interest.
“It was sort of on my bucket list to make something about Indian cinema, broadly,” she tells Variety. “The intention was to look at the formative, most iconic films in Indian cinema, or the filmmakers — something that gives a glimpse into our industry.”
To Mundhra, there was a gap in world knowledge of the films coming out of Mumbai, even though many people thought they knew “Bollywood.”

In Netflix’s “The Romantics,” a new docuseries about the legacy of Indian director Yash Chopra, there’s one word you’ll barely hear: “Bollywood.”
The Hindi-language film industry was so named as a portmanteau of Bombay (now Mumbai) and Hollywood, but its key players have always hated being defined by the West. At one point, Oscar-nominated director Smriti Mundhra asks her interview subjects — a jaw-dropping lineup of Hindi film A-listers, including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Chopra’s own wife Pamela — how they feel about the term; none of them responds positively.
“Hate it,” Ranbir Kapoor says while taking a sipping of his drink.
In its century of existence, the Hindi film industry — and the rest of India by extension — have catalyzed entertainment culture in ways that no one mashing up the words “Bombay” and “Hollywood” could ever have imagined. This is a world defined by mesmerizing music,...

The Romantics is an Indian documentary series directed by Smriti Mundhra.
Yasi Chopra was a Bollywood film director who died in 2012 and left an immense legacy of movies, memories and experiences that Neflix brings to us today in the form of interviews, files and above all, lots of joy and color.
Chopra made his first feature film in the Seventies and during 40 years of work, left a legacy and a mark in Bollywood that is hard to forget. This documentary series that includes scenes by the director himself and some of his main actors, tries to make us re-live from within, the magic of cinema and above all, his enthusiasm.
A docu-series which, like Bollywood, is happy, vivid, funny and, yes, very sentimental.
Good editing work, inserting interviews in a rhythmic way and which has managed to tell and document a life in movies.
To be enjoyed.

Indian-American filmmaker Smriti Mundhra is again collaborating with Netflix on docu-series The Romantics, which looks back on 50 years of iconic Indian film studio Yash Raj Films (Yrf) and its late founder Yash Chopra.
The four-part series is streaming globally from today (February 14), deliberately coinciding with Valentine’s Day, as Chopra was known for directing romantic films such as Kabhi Kabhie, Veer-Zaara, Chandni and Lamhe.
Mundhra has filmed interviews with 35 figures of the Hindi-language film industry, from major stars including all three ‘Khans’, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, to producers, writers, critics, journalists, and costume designers.
But the real coup was getting Chopra’s famously reclusive son, Aditya Chopra, to talk on camera. One thing which stayed with the viewers from the trailer of the docu-series ‘The Romantics’ was the repulsion of Hindi cinema stars with the word ‘Bollywood’. Director Smriti Mundhra, who has put together the series, was surprised at such displeasure of the actors.

Smriti Mundhra cannot be pigeonholed into one oeuvre. The creator of Netflix’s popular “Indian Matchmaking,” which released its second season recently, directed two episodes of Mindy Kaling’s “Never Have I Ever” for the same streamer, and a segment of Brie Larson’s upcoming Disney+ docuseries “Growing Up.” Her “Shelter” doc short on homelessness is nominated for a news and documentary Emmy, as part of HBO Max series “Through Our Eyes.”
Mundhra, whose father, Jagmohan, was also a filmmaker and ran the Culver City theater Meralta, took that name for her production company. “What I love about making films and this work is that it puts a human face on these kinds of big problems.”
Mundhra says viewers are drawn to “Indian Matchmaking” because it engages with topics that we don’t talk about a lot. “Some of it is cringey,” she says. “Some of the things we do...

"This is an ongoing cycle of life for our community and for Sima, specifically. She's going to continue doing this work, on camera and off. The story continues," series creator Smriti Mundhra previously told OprahMag.com. Season one of "Indian Matchmaking" concluded with some loose threads, with Mundhra hinting that the ending was an intentional nod asking Netflix for another season. On Aug. 9, 2021, Mundhra finally got her answer, as not only did Netflix announce its largest casting call yet, but it also revealed that "Indian Matchmaking" had...
