“Bosch” is a full-fledged TV universe now. The long-running police procedural starring Titus Welliver is getting two new spinoff series from Amazon Studios.
Currently untitled, the two series in development at Amazon are based on characters created by Michael Connelly in his series of Henry Bosch detective novels. One will focus on Jerry Edgar, a LAPD detective and Bosch’s former partner. Jamie Hector, best known for “The Wire,” played the character in all seven seasons of the original “Bosch” series.
The second show will star the character of Renee Ballard, who first appeared in Connelly’s 2017’s novel “The Late Show” and crossed over with Bosch in 2018 book “Dark Sacred Night.” Ballard, a detective and mentee of Bosch, was never featured on the original show.

Amazon Studios is expanding Michael Connelly’s Bosch TV universe with two spinoffs currently in development — one focused on “Bosch” mainstay Jerry Edgar and the other on Connelly’s newest protagonist, Renee Ballard.
The first untitled spinoff will sees Jerry Edgar, Harry Bosch’s former partner, tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. Per the logline, “In this glamorous city, he is forced to balance his new life with the gritty underbelly of the city, while being chased by his mysterious past.”
The cast isn’t lined up just yet, but Jamie Hector, who played J. Edgar on all 7 seasons of “Bosch” and returned for a cameo during the first season of the sequel series “Bosch: Legacy,” is in talks to return, TheWrap has confirmed.

Exclusive: Max Martini is set for a heavily recurring role opposite Titus Welliver on the upcoming second season of Bosch: Legacy, the spinoff of the long-running Amazon series, on Freevee.
Legacy follows Welliver as retired homicide detective turned private investigator Harry Bosch, as he embarks on the next chapter of his career. Attorney Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers) struggles to maintain her faith in the justice system after surviving an attempted murder, and Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz) discovers the possibilities and challenges of being a rookie patrol cop on the streets of Los Angeles.
Martini will play Detective Don Ellis, a hardened vice cop in the LAPD. He’s intelligent and fierce, and not above getting down and dirty with the criminals he polices to get the job done.
The spinoff is produced by Fabel Entertainment and exec produced by Michael Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge and Welliver.

We never can say goodbye, and that is especially true when it comes to beloved TV shows. The post-finale spinoff has always been a popular way to keep a franchise going.
In recent decades, some of these spinoffs have been just as good as the original: I would lead with “Frasier,” out of “Cheers,” of course, which put Kelsey Grammer’s character front and center, making him just as iconic as Ted Danson’s Sam Malone. And “Better Call Saul,” an idea that began as a bit of a lark when “Breaking Bad” was ending. Of course, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould wound up creating something richer — a show led by Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn that went to dramatically dense places no one could have predicted. It’s an immediate spin-off all-timer. “The Good Fight” continued the legacy of “The Good Wife,” but shifted the focus to Christine Baranski.

With Season 3 of Amazon’s “Bosch” around the corner, its newest trailer offers a glimpse into the accusations and mystery Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) will be dealing with. Not only within his work, but also as all eyes turn to him in the case of a man being thrown over a balcony, supposedly by a cop. In a series riddled with themes surrounding the dark underbelly of the Lapd, Bosch suddenly has to face them head on when even his own partner begins to distrust him.

Ok, try to stay with us here. Daniel Pyne (“Fracture,” “The Manchurian Candidate”) has taken over as “Bosch” showrunner, replacing Eric Overmyer in the role. As previously reported, Overmyer dropped the day-to-day duties on the Amazon original series to be the showrunner on another, “The Man in the High Castle.” There, he replaced Frank Spotnitz, who left the role mid-production on Season 2. Joining “Bosch” as an executive producer is John Mankiewicz (“House of Cards,” “House”), a regular collaborator of Pyne’s. Overmyer will remain an executive producer on “Bosch.” Got all that? It's confirmed - The Man In The High Castle will return to Amazon for its third season.
There's no huge surprise here, as The Man In The High Castle is one of the most talked-about shows on Amazon Prime, but yes, it's been confirmed that a third season of the alt-history Nazi-stuffed drama is on the way.

Amazon broke the news with a YouTube video, which oddly hasn't been made available in the UK. At the time of writing, all we have to go on is Collider's description of the clip.
Apparently, it shows Rufus Sewell's John Smith and Chelah Horsdal's Helen (who's pregnant in the scene) watching the Nazi atomic bomb land in Washington.

Amazon continues to construct its library of original programming, and as part of those efforts, it has renewed one of its most dependable building blocks. Man in the High Castle, an alternate-history series set in a universe in which the Axis Powers won World War II, will return for a third season.
Man in the High Castle, based on a Philip K. Dick book of the same, arrived in 2015. It quickly built up a devoted audience and drew for its fully-realized world and well-shaped characters. At the time when it was renewed for a second season, it was revealed to be Amazon’s most-watched original show.
A second season arrived in 2016, and now, just a few weeks after those episodes premiered, more are officially on the way. The most significant change that will affect the series concerns its showrunner. Frank Spotnitz, who was at the helm for seasons one and two,...

Amazon has renewed “The Man in the High Castle” for a third season, and it’s also found a new showrunner for the alternate-history series. The streaming platform recruited from within, tapping “Bosch” executive producer Eric Overmyer (“The Affair,” “Treme”). He’ll replace Frank Spotnitz, who left the role mid-production on Season 2. “As timely as ever, the exploration of characters at a dark point for humanity has provided incredible stories for two seasons,” said Joe Lewis, head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios. “Eric and his team are doing an incredible job crafting stories about the inner lives of those who struggle.

Amazon announced on Tuesday that it has renewed The Man in the High Castle for a third season — and with a showrunner at the helm, to boot.
After Frank Spotnitz abruptly stepped down as showrunner midway through production of Season 2, the dystopian thriller proceeded without a singular boss, operating instead like “a republic,” it was explained at the summer TCA press tour. “We have a system that is working as good as we can make it,” said Ep David Zucker.
For Season 3, however, Bosch executive producer Eric Overmyer will assume the top post.

Titus Welliver's righteous Lapd homicide cop Harry Bosch begins the second season of Amazon's Bosch on suspension for a stunt he pulled when last we saw him. Shaving off the beard he grew during his time away from the job, he playfully considers sticking with some mutton-chop sideburns and/or a mustache, before finally chopping it all off to the great relief of his daughter Maddie. This is at once a wink to the various epic stages of Welliver's facial hair on Deadwood and a nod to the fact that, in Michael Connelly's best-selling series of Harry Bosch novels, his hero sports a thick policeman's 'stache. Welliver began the series clean-shaven, in part because he didn't have time to grow anything after he was cast. But the shaving scene is a way for the Bosch creative team to make clear that, even as they continue to incorporate plot...

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

One of Amazon’s most unsuspecting properties has now secured a full-length second season. Bosch debuted its first season exclusively via Amazon Instant Prime in February, and snagged two prestigious honors in the following month. In terms of viewership, it secured the biggest debut weekend of any Amazon Original series and went on to become the most-watched title on Amazon Prime during its first four weeks. Now, understandably so, another season has been set in motion that will continue the tale of Hollywood cop Harry Bosch.
The series is adapted from Michael Connelly’s series of novels, and season two will continue that trend. For this next spate of episodes, the adventures of the gruff Lapd detective (Titus Welliver) are to be mined from two of Connelly’s novels – Trunk Music and The Drop. Read More: Review: 'Bosch' Won't Be Amazon's Next 'Transparent'-Level Hit, But It's Better For It Amazon's first original drama wasn't facing much risk of cancellation before it premiered — not with a built-in audience and Connelly's name attached to draw in Kindle readers — and the series lived up to its well-known name. "Bosch," which has been picked up for Season 2 today by Amazon, is the most watched title on Prime Instant Video, for movies or TV, through its first four weeks of availability. Furthermore, the series had the most watched debut weekend of all Amazon Original Series. Starring Titus Welliver and executive produced by Connelly, Eric Overmyer ("The Wire") and Henrik Bastin ("The Killing"), Season 2 will focus on two of the author's popular novels, "Trunk Music" and "The Drop." These stories will follow Bosch's investigation of a Hollywood producer who laundered money for the mob and a serial killer who ends up.

Amazon has ordered a second season of "Bosch," it's cop drama based on the Harry Bosch crime novels by Michael Connelly, and starring Titus Welliver as the title character, veteran Lapd homicide cop Harry Bosch. According to Amazon's press release, the new season, likely to debut sometime next year, will be adapted from a pair of Connelly books: "Trunk Music" and "The Drop." Despite having read every single Bosch novel (not to mention Harry's brief appearance in Connelly's Lincoln Lawyer series, about Harry's lawyer half-brother Mickey Haller) and being a longtime fan of Welliver and co-stars like Lance Reddick, Jamie Hector, "Bosch" season 1 did very little for me. It incorporated stories from a handful of the novels, but mainly drew on the most cliche elements of those stories, like the incompetent captain with an irrational vendetta against Bosch, or the cat-and-mouse game an escaped serial killer plays with our hero.

Actor/ Producer Julian McMahon ("Nip/Tuck" and "Fantastic Four") and Charlie Loventhal ("Mr Write" and "Meet Market"), in partnership with Grey Eagle Films/Grey Eagle Development, will be developing and producing "Funny Boys," based on the novel by Warren Adler. Paradigm will package the project.
Adler is best known for the blockbuster novel “The War of the Roses,“ which spawned an iconic film directed by Danny DeVito. Set in the 1930s in Brownsville Brooklyn and the famed New York State, Catskills, "Funny Boys," follows the story of Mickey Fine whose ambition is to be a comedian and follow in the footsteps of the great names of the era; Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Joan Rivers, and scores of others who got their start in the many Borscht Belt hotels.
Jonathan Robert Adler, CEO, along with Grey Eagle COO, Stephen Greenwald, former President of DeLaurentis Entertainment Group and Embassy Pictures, have already launched a number of development/producing deals.
"Funny Boys" is just one of a number of Warren Adler novels in various stages of development by Grey Eagle Films. Other Grey Eagle projects include "The War of the Roses: The Children" adapted by screenwriter and Novelist Alex McAulay and codeveloped by Permut Presentations; "Target Churchill,"co-developed by Solution Entertainment Group; "Mourning Glory," to be adapted by award-winning writer and director Karen Leigh Hopkins; "Cult," also to be adapted by Alex McAulay; "Capitol Crimes," a TV series based on Warren Adler’s Fiona Fitzgerald mystery series, co-developed by Sennet Entertainment, with Eric Overmyer as showrunner; and soon to be announced thrillers "Torture Man," "Residue" and "The Womanizer"...

Titus Welliver isn't the first actor I might have thought of to play Lapd homicide cop Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch, hero of 17 best-selling mystery novels and counting by Michael Connelly (plus multiple appearances in Connelly's "Lincoln Lawyer" series). But that's more because the book series started so long ago, and has allowed Harry to age in real time, so my mental image of him is much older than the "Deadwood" alum. In "Bosch," a new TV series whose first season can be streamed on Amazon Prime starting today, Welliver plays a younger and slightly mellower version of Harry. Connelly and producer Eric Overmyer ("The Wire," "Tremé") adapted the first season from pieces of three different Bosch novels ("The Concrete Blonde," "City of Bones" and "Echo Park"), and tweaks some biographical details. (Over the course of the early books, for instance, Bosch got married, divorced, and had a daughter who's on the...

This review is based on the pilot, which we were provided with for review purposes.
Thoughtful, grimly atmospheric and strongly performed, Amazon’s first drama series Bosch is as compelling and faithful an adaptation of Michael Connelly’s popular crime series as any fan could have asked for. From the pitch-perfect casting of Titus Welliver as tough-as-nails La homicide detective Hieronymous “Harry” Bosch to Jim McKay’s moody direction (in the pilot, the only episode made available to critics prior to broadcast), there’s much to appreciate and even more, it appears, to look forward to as the season progresses.
Connelly’s heavy involvement behind the scenes (he has creator credit and also executive produces) explains why Bosch gets so much right about its protagonist, but that it’s also a mesmerizing, noir-inspired thriller with scenes reminiscent of HBO’s True Detective is indicative of an entire team operating in perfect harmony.

All ten episodes of Bosch are set to debut in the Us, UK, and Germany to Amazon Prime members by way of Amazon Instant video on February 13, 2014.
The hour-long drama stars Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Argo) in the titular role as a the grizzled homicide detective with a helluva gut instinct, Harry Bosch (named after that other Harry Bosch) who’s in pursuit of the recently-escaped-from-custody confessed killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations he murdered another suspected killer in cold blood.
Welliver is joined on Bosch’s hunt for justice by Jamie Hector (Marlo from The Wire!) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt.

The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Lately, Netflix has been dominating the news, but Amazon Studios also has shows in the works. The studio just released its trailer for its upcoming original series Bosch. Bosch is based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling books about a Los Angeles Police Department detective named Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch. According to Variety, the series follows Bosch as he tries to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while he himself is on trial in the federal court for the murder of a serial killer. The police drama series stars Titus Welliver (Argo) as Bosch. Annie Wersching (from Extant and The Last of Us) and Jamie Hector (of The Wire and Heroes) are set to co-star. Connelly and Eric Overmyer (of Boardwalk Empire) co-scripted the original series, and Henrik Bastin and Fabrik Entertainment (known for The Killing) are co-producers. Amazon will likely debut Bosch in 2015 exclusively for its members on the Amazon...

Netflix might be the world’s biggest streaming giant, with a handful of highly successful original series to its name, but the world’s biggest marketplace, Amazon, is making a play for the title. Amazon Studios has been steadily building its unique catalogue with recent hits such as Transparent and Alpha House. While their output has yet to harness the hysterical levels of interest that surrounds ‘Flix’s Orange Is The New Black, their next offering – Bosch – just might.
Based on the best-selling novel series by author Michael Connelly, the show stars Titus Welliver (TV’s Lost, The Town) as Lapd homicide detective Harry Bosch, who operates in and around the Hollywood division. Last night the 2014 Emmy Award winners were announced with "Breaking Bad" taking home top honors with five wings including Outstanding Drama Series, followed by "Modern Family" with three wins including Outstanding Comedy Series. FX programs "American Horror Story: Coven" and "Fargo" each took home two awards including an Outstanding Miniseries win for "Fargo". Meanwhile, new shows such as "Orange is the New Black" and "Silicon Valley" went home empty handed and for all the fanfare it received in its first season, including 12 Emmy nominations, "True Detective" only took home one win, that being for director Cary Joji Fukunaga". Personally, I don't give a lick about the Emmys, it's right there with the Grammys in terms of worthless awards shows for me. It's a show wherein people must nominate themselves and while most award shows are no better, this one is down there near the bottom for me. So, with that said,...

Breaking Bad’s amazing final season always meant that it was a likely winner come awards season. However, the debut of the critically acclaimed True Detective earlier this year did leave many wondering whether it might rob the end to Walter White’s story of one final sweep of prizes at last night’s Emmy Awards.
As it turns out, Breaking Bad would end up being rewarded for those amazing final episodes, though True Detective did earn a very well deserved award for director Cary Joji Fukunaga (who helmed all eight instalments).
The UK was represented by Sherlock, and that too did exceptionally well, walking away with Emmys for Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and writer Steven Moffat. Looking at the results, it’s hard to imagine anyone being too upset with the results, though many Game of Thrones fans won’t be happy to see that it was again snubbed.

The 66th Annual Emmy Awards have come and gone; the big winners include greats like Breaking Bad, which won outstanding drama, best actor (Bryan Cranston), best supporting actor (Aaron Paul) and best actress (Anna Gunn). Not too bad for one last victory lap. Matthew McConaughey didn’t pick up a win for True Detective, but he’s had a great year regardless having already picked up an Oscar; he will sleep well.

The 2014 Emmy Award nominations were announced today and led by HBO's "Game of Thrones" with 19 total nominations. New show "Fargo" scored 18, followed by "American Horror Story", "Breaking Bad", The Normal Heart and not too far down the line "True Detective" with 12. The one show I love and continue to watch, "Hannibal" received zero nominations, but then again, I have never paid too much attention to the Emmys, primarily because people have to nominate themselves, something I've never understood. "Game of Thrones" 19 "Fargo" 18 "American Horror Story: Coven" 17 "Breaking Bad" 16 "The Normal Heart" 16 "Saturday Night Live" 14 "House of Cards" 13 "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" 12 "Downton Abbey" 12 "Orange Is the New Black" 12 From a network perspective, leading the pack was HBO, coming in just one nomination shy of a 100 and it wasn't even a close race with CBS coming in second with 47.
