Jammin’ the Blues by Gjon Mili. Completed in 1944.
Gjon Mili is primarily known for his work as a photographer, particularly his portraits and experimental use of strobe lighting, much of which appeared in Life magazine.
In the book Norman Granz: The Man Who Used Jazz for Justice, author Tad Hershorn goes into great detail in the making and release of the film. After building a career as a photographer in New York City, Mili was flown to Los Angeles by Warner Bros. to see if he would be a good motion picture director. Mili proposed a jazz film to producer Gordon Hollingshead, which the studio moved forward on. Granz, the subject of Hershorn’s book, is listed as the Technical Director of the film in the opening credits (see below).

J.K. Simmons, Johnny Simmons (no relation), Brittany Snow and Jane Lynch are set to star in Kevin Pollak's comedy "The Late Bloomer" for Eclectic Pictures and Ineffable Pictures. Filming has begun in Los Angeles ahead of a shift to Bulgaria.
Based on Ken Baker's 2001 memoir "Man Made," the story follows the E! news correspondent's experience of going through puberty for the first time at age thirty after having a pituitary tumor removed.
The benign tumor rested against his pituitary gland and delayed his puberty and normal development. Though the tumor's removal restored him to hormonally normal masculinity, it resulted in him having to experience all the effects of puberty over an extremely condensed three-week period.
Johnny Simmons portrays the lead who works as a sex therapist in an office headed by Lynch's character. Snow portrays the girl next door, while J.K. Simmons and Bello play his suffocating parents.

Back in 2012, Elijah Wood was all set to star in indie comedy drama The Late Bloomer for director Randall Einhorn. But, as they are so often wont to do, the film didn’t quite come together. Comedian Kevin Pollack has pulled off the trick, securing J.K. Simmons, Johnny Simmons, Brittany Snow and Jane Lynch to head the cast. They’re part of an ensemble that also includes Maria Bello, Kumail Nanjiani, Beck Bennett, Paul Wesley, Ken Marino, Ileana Douglas, Charlotte McKinney, Vanessa Ragland, Blake Cooper and Leonora Crichlow, in the story adapted from Ken Baker’s 2001 book Man Made: A Memoir Of My Body. On August 14, 1971, Stanford University psychologist Philip Zimbardo initiated an experiment that has resonated for the succeeding 44 years. Twenty-four volunteers were rounded up and randomly divided into groups of "prisoners" and "guards," with the intent to study the psychology of individuals in the penal system. What happened is dramatized in the harrowing "Stanford Prison Experiment" and today we have an exclusive clip from the film. Read More: Review: Provocative And Unnerving 'Stanford Prison Experiment' With Ezra Miller, Tye Sheridan, Johnny Simmons, More Human nature is a deeply nebulous topic. But while defining it is difficult, studying it — reproducing its manifestations in a lab setting — is even more daunting. Enter Dr. Philip Zimbardo. In 1971, Zimbardo, then a psychology professor at Stanford University, designed an experiment that would, alongside Stanley Milgram's electric shock experiments, come to serve as the definitive psychological investigation into human nature. And the results weren't pretty. Though the Stanford Prison Experiment began as an inquiry into the causes of conflict between prisoners and guards, it transmogrified into a power-play that exposed our deep-seated human desire for conformity and power. Twenty-four male students, randomly assigned roles as prisoner and guard, were selected to live in a 14-day mock prison in the basement of a Stanford...

Doing it for the first time is usually an experience that leaves a lasting, lifelong memory—for better or for worse—but what happens when you try to cram a decade's worth of sexual experience into one summer? Well, meet Brandy Klark, who endeavours to cross every "job" off her list and then some in "The To Do List." Appealing to everyone getting steamed up by the barely-there cosplay outfits in San Diego, a couple of new clips have arrived, including one courtesy of MTV. The scene will find you meeting the lead, played by "Parks & Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza, while her father (Clark Gregg) votes against Brandy's mother giving her daughter "the talk." Why? Well, after putting their other daughter Amber (Rachel Bilson) on birth control, she quickly became educated in the ways of the bedroom. Lastly, there's a featurette that goes behind the scenes of the whole movie.

I honestly forgot about this movie until a red-band trailer popped up on the internet today. The film is called The To-Do List, it stars the adorable Aubrey Plaza, and it looks really funny. The comedy was teased last summer, but then it just kind of disappeared until today. The story is set in the 90s and follows a high school graduate (Plaza) who vows to become sexually active before going off to college. The movie also stars Andy Samberg, Donald Glover, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Connie Britton, Alia Shawkat, Johnny Simmons, Mae Whitman, and Clark Gregg.
Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the 'activities' she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice.

What's on your to do list this summer? Maybe get a job, ask that girl or guy out who works at that store downtown and perhaps spend some long weekends with some friends. Either way, we're betting your list isn't quite the same as Brandy's in "The To Do List." Unless handjobs are an essential part of your summer plans.... The brand new trailer for the raunchy sex comedy "The Do List" is here, in which our hero, played by Aubrey Plaza, crosses of a variety of "--jobs" from her list. Ahem. The story follows Brandy, who is getting ready to hit college in the fall, as she decides to get some "experience" before classes start and embarks on a quest to cross off all manner of sexual acts from her list, rounding up friends and sibling to help accomplish this feat and offer advice. It's a pretty audacious comedy concept,...

It's a fact of life for an actor/writer/director after doing a movie: Just before the film debuts, you meet with the press and answer questions like, "What was it like to work with Matthew Modine?" and "Before playing a mime, did you meet with any mimes to prepare?" It's a part of the biz, so to speak, and the process is generally unremarkable.

Casting irony alert: Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Chyler Leigh is set to play a survivor of a plane crash in an NBC comedy.

Shortly her "Grey's" exit, Leigh released the following statement to TVLine: "Earlier this year, I made the decision that Season eight would be my last on 'Grey's Anatomy.' I met with Shonda and we worked together to give Lexie's story appropriate closure ... I look forward to my next chapter and I hope you will continue to follow me on my journey."

There must be some sort of hazing or rite of passage all crime shows go through where they must feature a story that utilizes the over-used trope of the “victim” actually being the mastermind behind the crimes.
However, even when I had a guess at what the twist was going to be on "Child Predator," it didn't diminish the overall story, as both Jonny Lee Miller and Johnny Simmons (Adam Kempler) did a fantastic job with their banter.
I wonder if we will see Kempler again. His foreshadowing that he will be out quickly certainly seems to hint at it. While he is no Moriarty, it would be a nice step that direction if Holmes had a second round with a character as smart as him.
On the Holmes and Watson front, I loved how the latter was able to contribute a bit by showing Holmes how to stretch to stay away.

I truly enjoyed .The Perks of Being a Wallflower.. I know it.s cliché to say by now that a movie is a great coming-of-age film but in the case of .Perks,. it truly is! Adapted and directed by the book.s author, Stephen Chbosky, .Perks. is captivating and the narrative will pull you right in. It also boasts a great ensemble cast featuring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Johnny Simmons, and Mae Whitman. I sat down with Miller, Simmons, and Whitman when they premiered the movie at this year.s Toronto International Film Festival. It was a fun interview and we talked about (video below):
What got them interested in making .The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
The audition process
Working with Stephen Chbosky
Ezra Miller.s brilliant performance
The difference between the book and the movie
Have fun!

Most sex comedies star boys desperate to get laid, but in Maggie Carey's The To-Do List, it's high-schooler Aubrey Plaza who's plotting to lose her virginity ... and the girl has got goals. In fact, Plaza's got an entire checklist of sex acts to get through and an array of potential lust interests like Donald Glover, Johnny Simmons, and Scott Porter who may fit the bill. CBS Films announced today that the sex comedy will be released next Valentine's Day, so this teaser is mostly made up of Plaza herself simply giving good deadpan to the viewer, but those stray bits of footage seem promising. Aubrey Plaza/Donald Glover sex scenes! That may have been on your own checklist.

We just realized — there’s just a little over a month to go until Perks of Being a Wallflower comes out (in select theaters, on September 21). Will the film end up being a cult classic like the novel it’s been adapted from? Only time will tell, but this new lot of photographs from Summit Entertainment, makes us want to grab some caramel popcorn and watch it now. That’s a good sign. More than anything, these photographs articulate everything we know of the movie’s characters already. Who wouldn’t want to be tight with Emma Watson‘s Sam? Even though the photograph above looks a tad Titanic-esque. The trailer for Perks of Being a Wallflower was released two months ago, and it had all the signs of turning into the go-to film this fall. Epic shots, the trials and tribulations of growing up, the angst of teen romance … what’s not to love?...

The long-awaited "Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer finally made its debut at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show on Sunday. The sneak peek showed many of the key moments in Stephen Chbosky's story, including a glimpse at the characters' adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and the "epic" tunnel scene.
The most powerful moment, however, came when Patrick (Ezra Miller), a flamboyant thespian, engaged in a physical fight in the high school cafeteria with Brad (Johnny Simmons), the head jock. When MTV News spoke with Simmons, he described the scene as one of his favorites to shoot, despite its intensity.

With "Twilight" wrapping up this year, and "The Hunger Games" proving a giant hit, the hunt is on for the next big young adult movie franchise. And we suspect that of all the projects brewing, "The Mortal Instruments" has one of the best chances. The book series by Cassandra Clare has sold millions of copies across its four novels (plus two more in a spin-off series, "The Infernal Devices") to date, as many as any of its competitors. And since the movie version started development, the books' fervent fan-base has come out in force for any tidbit on the project.
And now, the film is finally set to happen, courtesy of Constantin Films ("Resident Evil"): it has a new director in "Karate Kid" helmer Harald Zwart, a locked-in star in Lily Collins, and even a release date, of August 23, 2013. With the film finally moving forward, we decided we'd take...

Emma Watson was spotted kissing her new boyfriend at the Coachella music festival over the weekend. The 'Harry Potter' actress and her latest love - believed to be American student Will Adamovicz - have reportedly been dating since meeting in Oxford six months ago where they are both studying and weren't shy about showing their affection for each other. The couple kissed and cuddled while watching bands including the Arctic Monkeys perform at the festival in California. A dressed down Emma - who turned 22 yesterday (15.04.12) - sported jeans, a leopard print scarf and a feathered gilet with sunglasses as a hairband. Emma has previously dated Johnny Simmons, after meeting on the set of 'The...

Here's something rather puzzling for you to chew on during your lunch hour: Back in February we and many other sites reported on an indie flick called Shadow Falls. Today Starway Pictures announced that flick doesn't exist. Here, we'll let them explain...
From the Starway Pictures Blog
There appears to be some nefarious activity happening with regard to "Shadow Falls". An unknown entity has setup and created an IMDb (Internet Movie Database) account for the film without our permission. Additionally, this unknown entity is claiming the movie has a release date and is "completed". Nothing could be further from the truth.
Let's set the record straight. "Shadow Falls" was a demo-reel/proof-of-concept reel produced in 2005. It was shot exclusively as a showpiece to entice investment in the project. Ultimately the film was never funded and shelved. It was to our great surprise to see the listing show up on IMDb recently.

Weekend box office should see viewers should Jump for 21 Jump Street. Only a single wide opener unspools this weekend in Sony's 21 Jump Street action comedy, finding 3,121 theaters with a cast including Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, Dave Franco, Johnny Simmons, Dakota Johnson, Ellie Kemper, Jake M. Johnson and DeRay Davis. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller helm from the writing by Josh Appelbaum, Jonah Hill, Joe Gazzam and André Nemec. Neal H. Moritz and Stephen J. Cannell, co-creator of the crime drama-genred 80s series on which the film is based, produce the film. Pic shouldn't falter against Universal's The Lorax, the top spot holder at the box office for the last two weekends, nor from struggling John Carter. That said, the latter could stay on longer than anticipated due to a decent cinema score.
