Pre-election transition planning is famously so tight-lipped that you’d barely know it is happening when you read the news of the day. The dreaded headline claims the candidate is “measuring the drapes of the White House” long before any votes are counted. Opposing campaigns are all too eager to pounce on the arrogance of that presumption.
This is why the recent trickle of news about the Trump transition planning is so intriguing — particularly the revelation that Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is serving as a transition whisperer.

Janelle Monáe plans out Halloween costumes at least two years in advance but when the Screen Actors Guild went on strike last year, the entertainer opted to scrap her spooky blueprints. “SAG-AFTRA issued guidelines discouraging members from dressing up like film or television characters, so I stood in solidarity with my people and switched up my plan,” the 38-year-old singer, actress and all around creative recently told The Hollywood Reporter.
Monáe didn’t fully abandon the iconic movie character she wanted to be last season, and she managed to keep the identity a secret…until Wednesday. With less than 24 hours to go before Halloween, Monáe unveiled an epic transformation into the beloved title character from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 sci-fi classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Not only did she drop the look on Instagram for her five million followers with videos and a carousel of images — many of which captured E.

On Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel boldly went where the LA Times, the Washington Post and USA Today have feared to go: The late-night host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! delivered what amounted to a 19-minute anti-endorsement for Donald Trump.
Before launching a long series of clips using Trump’s own words, Kimmel said, “Tonight’s monologue is for Republicans” and asked his viewers to send the video to the Republicans in their lives.
“Ask them to watch this whole thing as a personal favor to you,” he said, explaining that most people don’t have time to watch every Trump speech or keep up with the former president’s social media outbursts. “But this is all I have to do,” he joked.
“We are very divided,” Kimmel said, “and not just because of Donald Trump, because of people like, if I’m being honest, me. I do a lot of mocking and belittling,...

Vice President Kamala Harris did not hestitate to call former President Donald Trump a fascist for the first time Wednesday.
Anderson Cooper asked the Democratic nominee onstage at the CNN Town Hall whether.
“You’ve quoted Gen. Milley calling Donald Trump a fascist, but you yourself have not used that word to describe him. Let me ask you tonight. Do you think Donald Trump is a fascist?” Anderson Cooper asked.
Without hesitation, the vice president responded, “Yes I do.”

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride — the sprawling attraction that packs a spooky patch of Griffith Park with ghouls, goblins and eerie attractions — has never closed for a private party. Not for the Obamas, the Beckhams, Christina Aguilera or any of the VIPs that have flocked to the pop-up during the Halloween season in its 16 years of existence. That changed on Oct. 10, when the public exited the area known as Midnight Falls to make way for host Janelle Monáe and nearly 100 of her nearest and dearest.
As zombie-like “scare actors” bobbed and booed their way through a crowd of her guests including Zola filmmaker Janicza Bravo and Insecure star Kendrick Sampson, a DJ in a skull mask pressed pause on Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” to make way for Monáe’s grand — and completely method — entrance, as she cut through the fog with a chainsaw and sprinted toward the stage. Olivia Nuzzi has left New York magazine following an investigation into her coverage of the 2024 election that found no “evidence of bias,” according to the publication.
The magazine announced that Nuzzi and the publication had “parted ways” following the probe in a statement on Monday. “Last month, the magazine enlisted the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine to review Olivia Nuzzi’s work during the 2024 campaign. They reached the same conclusion as the magazine’s initial internal review of her published work, finding no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias,” the statement read. “Nevertheless, the magazine and Nuzzi agreed that the best course forward is to part ways.” The magazine called Nuzzi “a uniquely talented writer” and said it had been “proud” to platform her coverage over the course of nearly eight years.

Donald Trump is not backing down from his fascistic remarks about “the enemy from within,” comments he has made repeatedly in recent weeks. Instead he’s naming Democratic Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff as part of said “enemy from within.”
In earlier comments made on Oct. 13, the former president said that “radical left lunatics… the enemy from within… should be very easily handled, if necessary, by the National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military.” He also spoke of “the enemy from within” on Sept. 3 and Oct. 16.

Undecided Latino voters who participated in Donald Trump’s Univision town hall on Wednesday were left deeply unimpressed by the former president.
Three participants in the event expressed their frustration over Trump’s failure to answer them directly or explain his policy proposals in interviews with Rolling Stone. Two of them indicated that their experience with the former president has solidified their decision to vote for his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, while the other says he is still undecided.
José Saralegui, a registered Republican, said he was “very disappointed” in Trump’s performance.

Latino voters grilled Donald Trump on Wednesday during a town hall hosted by Univision, and if the audience’s expressions were anything to go by, his performance was lackluster.
At one point Carlos Aguilera, a construction worker from Florida who was born in Cuba, asked Trump if the recent slew of natural disasters and environmental issues battering the Sunshine State had made him reconsider his claims that climate change is a “hoax.”
Trump responded by bragging about his golf courses and lying about his environmental record.

Kamala Harris is the Democratic nominee for the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election!
The 59-year-old Vice President of the United States launched her White House bid after current President Joe Biden dropped out of the race back in July.
“Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election,” Kamala shared in a statement at the time. “And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”
She then officially accepted the nomination in August at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, after securing more than enough votes from delegates.

Vice President Kamala Harris opened her first interview on Fox News with a heated exchange with host Bret Baier on Wednesday evening, as he repeatedly interrupted her answer to his question regarding the Biden administration’s handling of what he called “illegal” migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“How many illegal immigrants would you estimate your administration has released into the country over the last three-and-a-half years?” the Special Report With Bret Baier host asked Harris at the top of the one-on-one interview.
Harris thanked him for the question because, she said, it’s an important matter for a number of voters in the 2024 Election. She then told Baier, “You know what I’m going to talk about,” before she was interrupted by the host, who demanded an estimate from the Democratic presidential candidate.
“But do you — just — a number. Do you think it’s 1 million, 3 million?” he asked.

The View host, Alyssa Farah Griffin is quick to assert her stance on certain topics. Admittedly, she is in a weird place, for actively not supporting the current Republican presidential nominee. Is Alyssa strategically attempting to fool viewers? Is there something else behind her actions?
Alyssa Farah Griffin Confuses Some Viewers
Undeniably, The View is in a frenzy with the current politics brewing in America. For instance, fans want Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines to “play” nicer during this heightened time. Recently, Alyssa Farah Griffin has said she believes the selection will come down to “which candidate is seen as the agent of change.” Surprisingly, she is strongly “anti-Trump-Vance” even though she is a staunch Republican. Previously, she was on Trump’s team as press secretary for U.S. Vice President Mike Pence. However, even though Alyssa is showing up more and more on TV voicing her opinion, fans...

The first time Maria Bakalova came to New York City, she had to flee.
She was in disguise, shooting a scene for 2020’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” that put her alone in a hotel room with Rudy Giuliani. The former mayor touched her midsection and reached down his pants — and then Sacha Baron Cohen burst into the room wearing a wig and lingerie. Giuliani called the police, and Bakalova and Baron Cohen sprinted down Broadway and escaped to Romania to finish the movie.
“We did the scene, and immediately after, police cars started chasing us,” Bakalova remembers. “I was scared I might end up in jail.”
The second time she came to the city, in December 2021, she attended a screening of her A24 movie “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and brought Covid back with her to Los Angeles, where she lives — an unwelcome souvenir that forced her to miss Christmas with her family in Bulgaria.

Omarosa Manigault Newman remains in the political arena.
The White House official — the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison under Donald Trump for a time in 2017 as well as a staffer in the Clinton administration — rose to prominence as one of Trump’s favorite contestants on “The Apprentice.” After her time on the reality show’s 2004 first season, she returned for two different installments of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
But in her 2018 memoir “Unhinged,” Manigault-Newman went after Trump with both barrels (she allegedly made a secret recording of chief of staff Jon Kelly firing her from the White House), describing the then-President as a racist and cognitively impaired. A lengthy lawsuit, in which the Trump presidential campaign alleged Manigault Newman had violated an NDA, was arbitrated in Manigault Newman’s favor in 2022.
Now, speaking to Variety, Manigault Newman — currently a law student at the Southern University Law Center...

Stephen Colbert thought he knew everything there was to know about Donald Trump's alleged criminal activity around the 2020 election. However, new information released by Special Counsel Jack Smith left the Late Show host pleasantly surprised.
Trump was charged with a host of crimes related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and enter a slate of fake electors. But when Vice President Mike Pence didn't go along with the plan and every court case was thrown out, Trump's scheme fell apart.
However, the ex-president received good news in July 2024. The Supreme Court ruled that a president essentially had immunity if they acted in their official capacity. Earlier this week, Jack Smith attempted to counter that ruling by releasing more details about Trump's actions around the election and framing the Republican as an office-seeker, not holder.

Liz Cheney decried Donald Trump’s “depraved cruelty” in a blistering speech that was her first appearance with Vice President Kamala Harris since endorsing her last month.
Noting that she has never voted for a Democrat, Cheney praised Harris for “working to unite reasonable people from across the political spectrum.” The joint appearance, designed to win over Republicans and independents, also was symbolic, as it was held in Ripon, Wi, regarded as the birthplace of the GOP.
CNN and MSNBC carried the remarks; Fox News very briefly dipped into the speech.
Cheney, who served as vice chair of the January 6th Commission, cited Trump’s conduct on that day. In her 20-minute remarks, she even cited information about Trump’s conduct that was revealed this week in a filing in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s criminal case against the former president.

In the movies and on TV, Presidents of the United States receive all the attention. From Abraham Lincoln to John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, it’s the Presidents that get the big feature film treatment. But what about their Vice Presidents who often serve so loyally? Sadly, as is true in real life, they are usually reduced to second banana status, often depicted as either ineffectual lapdogs or power-hungry back-stabbers.
Nevertheless, there’s been a surprising number of Vice Presidential characters who have broken through over the years in both film and television, usually played by consummate actors who know just how to make an often-forgotten character pop on screen. From an honorable woman being wooed for the job, to a power-mad Vice Presidential couple, to an epic nincompoop with an unparalleled talent for failing upward, these VPs have made their mark on audiences around the world.

During his vice presidential debate against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Sen. J.D. Days later, Trump is once again accusing Democrats of “rigging” that election and crying foul over the Justice Department submitting evidence in its election interference case against him — evidence that demonstrates he didn’t have much of a problem with the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

A newly unsealed filing reveals additional evidence in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s election conspiracy case against Donald Trump, as the prosecutor argued that the former president “resorted to crimes to try and stay in office.”
The filing, made public Wednesday, details the extent to which a bevy of advisers, including Vice President Mike Pence, sought to convince Trump that his challenge to the 2020 presidential election would not succeed and that it lacked evidence, but the then-president went ahead with his election-rigging claims anyway.
“The evidence demonstrates that the defendant knew his fraud claims were false because he continued to make those claims even after his close advisers — acting not in an official capacity but in a private or campaign-related capacity — told him they were not true,” Smith wrote in the brief.
Throughout the filing are instances where state lawmakers and officials told Trump and his allies that their rigged election claims were not credible.

Wednesday’s vice presidential debate between Republican candidate Jd Vance and Democratic nominee Tim Walz was mostly free of fireworks, and that was perhaps reflected in the ratings for the event as well. The debate, produced by CBS News and moderated by the Eye’s Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan, drew approximately 43.2 million viewers — down 25% from the 2020 vice presidential debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris, which averaged 57.9 million viewers.
The CBS debate was simulcast on ABC, Fox, NBC, PBS, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, NewsNation, Merit Street Media, Scrippts News, CNN en Español, Fox Business Network, NBC Universo and Newsmax, and ran from 9 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Et.
Also in comparison, last month’s Presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump averaged more that 67 million viewers.

Updated with Nielsen data: The CBS News vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and Jd Vance drew 43.15 million viewers Tuesday, far short of the audience for the 2020 matchup between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence.
The figures from Nielsen released today are across 15 networks.
The debate between Pence and Harris in 2020 drew 59 million viewers, the second most-watched VP debate in history. The 2008 debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin has the record, drawing an estimated 69.9 million.

According to Nielsen, 29.65 million viewers were 55 years and above, 9.47 million were 35-54, and 3.01 million were 18-34.
ABC News’ Trump-Harris presidential debate last month drew 67.14 million across 17 networks last month.

The lone debate between the two major-party candidates for vice president in 2024 drew a big audience — but not nearly as large as four years ago.
Final Nielsen ratings for Tuesday’s face-off between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, and Republican nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, put the debate at 43.15 million viewers across 15 networks. More than 90 percent of those viewers — 40.25 million — watched on the big four broadcast networks and three largest cable news outlets (CNN, Fox News and MSNBC). Preliminary figures had those seven outlets totaling 38.62 million viewers.
The ratings for Tuesday’s telecast are a little below the historical average for VP debates — and down by 25.5 percent from the 57.92 million people who watched the 2020 debate between sitting Vice President Mike Pence and then-Sen. Kamala Harris (who is leading the Democratic ticket this year).

The vice presidential debate left “The Daily Show” host Michal Kosta shocked, and it had nothing to do with either candidate’s policies. The senior correspondent expressed his surprise over Democrat nominee Tim Walz in Comedy Central’s live show following Tuesday night’s debate.
“Walz quotes a book I didn’t think Democrats had ever read. I guess it’s called the Bibble?” Kosta joked before cutting to a clip of Walz.
“I don’t talk about my faith a lot, but Matthew 25:40 talks about ‘To the least amongst us you do unto me,'” Walz said during the debate.
“Wow. Tim Walz has really stolen every Republican schtick. He’s folksy, he’s into cars, hunts, quotes the Bible,” Kosta said. “What’s next? We’re going to find out he’s the webmaster of Nude Africa dot com?”

Stephen Colbert spoke about the vice presidential debate on “The Late Show” Tuesday night, where he shared his thoughts on Tim Walz and Jd Vance’s responses to several divisive issues, including Jan. 6 and gun violence.
“The VP candidates were both different flavors of dull,” Colbert said in his opening monologue. “Jd Vance looked like a business lemur on beta blockers, and Tim Walz was, you know, the ol’ likable coach but appeared to be way over-caffeinated.”
Colbert noted that, during the VP debate, Vance “made sure to make many of his responses vague and patriotic.” At one point in his opening monologue, the late-night host examined the moment when Vance minimized Trump’s incitement of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

At Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate in New York, Democratic candidate Tim Walz harshly challenged J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate on the Republican ticket, after the latter chalked the former president’s ongoing arguments that the 2020 election was rigged against him as healthy political debate. Vance also compared his refusal to accept the election results to Hillary Clinton’s accusations involving Russia buying ads promoting Trump’s candidacy.
“Jan. 6 was not Facebook ads,” Walz replied to Vance’s assertion that Trump’s rhetoric and actions around his 2020 election loss are comparable to Clinton’s statement around the 2016 race and Vladimir Putin’s ad buys for Trump. “[The Jan. 6 Capitol attack] was a threat to our democracy in a way that we had not seen, and it manifested itself because of Donald Trump’s inability to say… he is still saying he didn’t lose the election.”

Updated, writethru: Overall, the lone 2024 Vice Presidential debate Tuesday was a polite affair, as both candidates suggested that there was common ground.
Gov. Tim Walz (D-Mn), running mate of Dem candidate Kamala Harris, drove home the civility of the debate when, as the event neared its conclusion, he admitted, “I’ve enjoyed tonight’s debate, and there was a lot of commonalities here, and I’m sympathetic to misspeaking on things, and I think I might have with the senator.”
“Me too, man,” Sen. J.D. Vance (R-oh), Donald Trump’s running mate. interjected.
It’s hard to think of such a moment in last month’s Harris-Trump match up, and it is perhaps a function of Walz’s and Vance’s backgrounds in the Midwest.
At a point earlier in the debate, during a discussion about gun violence, Walz noted that his 17-year-old son had witnessed a shooting at...

Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first running mate John Nance Garner once famously declared that the vice president’s office was “not worth a bucket of warm piss.” In the first and only VP debate of the 2024 presidential election, Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. J.D. Vance on Tuesday went out of their way to prove the ornery Texan pretty much right.
As different as two American politicians can be today except for both being white guys who are aiming for the ultimate benchwarmer gig, Walz and Vance know their brief was to do no evil for 90 minutes on Tuesday.
Despite some sparring over who won the 2020 election, the January 6 Maga assault on the Capitol near the end and Walz condemning Vance for “a damning non-answer” on the matter, the two candidates sealed the fairly dull deal.
Often proving not ready for primetime since his July selection by Donald Trump, Vance raised...

Paul Feig never intended to make “who you gonna call?” such a politically-charged question.
The Emmy-nominated writer and director explained that he made his 2016 female-led Ghostbusters reboot as it would have “felt weird” to continue with only part of the original cast after star Bill Murray publicly shot down the idea of a sequel.
“It had been 30 years and Bill and the gang were so iconic; I didn’t want to do anything that hurt the original movies,” Feig told The Guardian.
The reboot stars Kristen Wiig as physicist Erin Gilbert and Melissa McCarthy as paranormal researcher Abby Yates, who reunite years after trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions pop up in Manhattan, they turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) and lifelong New Yorker Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) for help.
“The political climate of the time was really weird, with Hillary Clinton running for office in 2016,” explained Feig.

Vice presidential hopeful Jd Vance has a lot of opinions on what Democrats shouldn’t be allowed to say during their campaigns, particularly when it comes to “ridiculous and inflammatory political rhetoric.” But apparently, it’s fine for Donald Trump to use that same rhetoric, as Seth Meyers proved by playing a supercut of him doing exactly that on Tuesday night.
“Look, we can disagree with one another, we can debate one another, but we cannot tell the American people that one candidate is a fascist, and if he’s elected, it is going to be the end of American democracy,” Vance complained this week.
And, to kick off his “A Closer Look” segment, Meyers actually agreed with Vance.
“Donald Trump’s running mate is right. We should all tone down the rhetoric and follow the example of Donald Trump,” Meyers deadpanned. “You can say many things about Donald Trump,...

Donald Trump was slamming his fist on the Resolute Desk and, once again, calling for blood.
It was the second year of his presidency, and Trump was seething about gang members and drug lords. He wanted to see their bodies piled up in the streets. Specifically, he sought a series of mass executions — with firing squads and gallows, and certainly without the quaintness of an appeals process — to send a chilling message about the scope of his power.
Trump, who’d taken office inveighing against “American carnage,” wanted to create some of his own.

The announcement by the former Wyoming Congresswoman was soon followed by confirmation by the ex-vp himself, and then follow up with words of thanks by the current vice president.
“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said at the Texas Tribune Festival, where she was participating in a Q&a with The Atlantic’s Mark Leibovich.
Her father later released a statement, saying that “there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

Liz Cheney, the former congresswoman who was ousted from GOP leadership for her criticism and opposition to Donald Trump, said that she will vote for Kamala Harris in the November election.
“As a conservative, as someone who believes and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Cheney said at an event at Duke University.
Harris said that it was “crucially important for people to recognize not only…the danger that Trump poses, something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe that we have to be writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states.”
Cheney served as vice chair of the January 6th Committee, the House investigation of the attack on the Capitol that ultimately recommended criminal charges against Trump.

Jimmy Kimmel took the summer off to spend time with his family. Jimmy Kimmel Live! kept going strong, of course, with a string of guest hosts, but suffice to say the titular comedian missed a lot in the world of politics.
The promotion of Kamala Harris to Democratic Presidential nominee, the difficulty Donald Trump has had in recent weeks, and the absolute disaster that Trump's VP pick, Jd Vance, has had in the media has gone done in Kimmel's absence.
Kimmel mocked Trump's controversial VP pick
Naturally, the host had to address them. And he did just that, condensing everything into a recap for his opening monologue. Kimmel proceeded to rag on Donald Trump's decision to select Vance as his running mate with a pretty hilarious barb about the latter's appearance:
Jd Vance looks like someone asked AI to make the Two and a Half Men one person.
Evidently, it...

Updated with Trump comment: Special Counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday filed a new indictment against Donald Trump, narrowing the scope of claims against the former president after the Supreme Court ruled that he was immune from conduct that were official acts.
A new grand jury again indicted Trump on four counts of conspiracy and obstruction to remain in power after the 2020 presidential election.
Those four counts are the same as those filed last year, but what is missing are some of the allegations to back them up. That includes claims that Trump sought to pressure Justice Department officials as he challenged the election results.
