There’s a new entry to the red-hot collectibles market.
Brent Montgomery is teaming with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian to launch Mantel, a content platform created specifically for collectors of sports cards and memorabilia, comics, cars, watches and more.
Wheelhouse, the media and marketing company founded by Montgomery (Pawn Stars, King of Collectibles), and Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six tech and venture capital firm, launched the platform Tuesday in beta. The site will serve as a social media platform that will focus first on sports cards and memorabilia as well as trading card games (like Pokemon and Magic the Gathering, for example) before expanding to other facets of the collectibles industry. The site will also feature real-time discussion and connectivity with experts in the collecting space as well as original content, creating a one-stop shop for collectors, investors and more.
Evan Parker, the former Gm at The Athletic, serves as CEO of Mantel.

In an episode of Audible podcast She Got Game, sports journalist and host Bonnie Bernstein asks Angel City Football Club president Julie Uhrman what she would say to a teenage girl who plays sports and is thinking about quitting. Her response: “She’s stronger than she thinks. There’s so much that sports can bring to you; 93 percent of all females in the C-suite played sports. It’s something to prioritize. It’s something to be a part of. It’s important. And then I’d find a way to help.”

Believe it or not, non-Jeopardy! viewers, but Celebrity Jeopardy! is a real thing and not just a classic series of SNL skits.
America’s favorite quiz show has been inviting celebrities on to try their hand at trivia since its ninth season in 1992. And yes, like in the aforementioned SNL skits, the questions are usually a bit “dumbed down” from the usual games. Still, many celebrities over the years have revealed themselves to be secret brainiacs with their surprising performance on the grueling game. Comedians like Cheech Marin, athletes like Aaron Rodgers, and actors like Jane Kaczmarek have all brought home some serious money for their respective charities.
Now, in its 39th season (and it second after the death of iconic original host Alex Trebek), Jeopardy! is going to give Celebrity Jeopardy! another go. This time, however, the stakes and scopes are much greater. Instead of being isolated to only a week within Jeopardy!

One test of a strong documentary is whether the subject matter could interest everyone or simply aficionados. It’s tough to imagine anybody watching “Unfinished Business” without immediately buying tickets to the next available WNBA game.
Director Alison Klayman (“Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry”) blends two approaches, offering us an introduction to the league itself as well as a closer look at the New York Liberty team. The truth is that both halves of this film deserve their own movie, but since each is equally compelling, Klayman never once loses our attention.
It certainly helps that she’s got such an extraordinary cast of participants. Wonderful interviews with legendary players like Teresa Weatherspoon, Rebecca Lobo, Crystal Robinson and Sue Wicks set the stage for a time — 1995 to be exact — when the idea of a professional women’s league was barely even a dream.

Dwayne Wade, Candace Parker and Shaquille O’Neal have a new teammate on TNT.
Adam Lefkoe, the Bleacher Report host, will expand his duties under a new deal with Turner Sports that will make him the studio host for the Tuesday night broadcast of “NBA on TNT,” the AT&T-owned operation announced. Lefkoe will continue to anchor Bleacher Report content including “Ditch the Playbook with Lefkoe” and “The Lefkoe Show” podcast. Lefkoe has also been connected with Bleacher Report’s NFL coverage and other video content over the past six years. He will be involved with other Turner Sports events over the term of the new agreement.
The maneuver is the latest to meld content from Bleacher Report, the sports site that Turner acquired in 2012 for $175 million when it was part of Time Warner, with the broader company, says Tara August, senior vice president of talent relations and special projects for Turner Sports.
