Ben Rhodes, the former Deputy National Security Adviser to President Barack Obama, has raised concerns about Jared Kushner’s alleged corruption in his $3 billion investment fund, predominantly financed by foreign sources.
Kushner’s firm received a $2 billion investment from a Saudi sovereign wealth fund shortly after he departed from the White House, serving as a senior adviser to his father-in-law, Donald Trump.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Alex Wagner, Rhodes expressed his unease, “This is just putting a price tag on American foreign policy… This is a level of corruption that we’ve just never seen, and it’s hiding in plain sight.”
Earlier in the program, Wagner highlighted that Kushner’s firm had been involved with foreign interests and cited its engagements in hotel developments in Serbia and Albania. She inquired about the potential implications of Kushner’s “entanglement” with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Trump...

Fox News topped its rivals in the March and first-quarter 2024 ratings by a wide margin, but MSNBC and CNN showed the biggest growth versus the same period a year ago.
The past month saw major events like Super Tuesday and President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address. Although the numbers aren’t giving the networks the blockbuster audiences of the 2020 cycle, the networks have for now staved off the large double-digit declines of recent years.
In primetime in March, Fox News averaged 2.14 million viewers, up 2% from the same period a year ago. MSNBC posted 1.31 million, up 15%, and CNN averaged 601,000, up 27%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 246,000, up less than 1% over 2023, while MSNBC averaged 133,000, up 24%, and CNN was at 124,000, up 24%.
In total day in March, Fox News topped with 1.31 million, down less than 1%, while MSNBC posted 830,000, up 18%, and CNN averaged 461,000, up 8%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News led...

In the pre-coverage of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, the speech is being billed as the most important of his presidency, what with his dismal approval numbers and what is shaping up to be very difficult campaign for reelection.
Moreover, so much attention has been paid to the president’s age — at 81, he is the first octogenarian on a major party ticket — that any kind of slip up will be seized upon by his rivals.
Then again, Biden’s most memorable moment last year was an exchange with House Republicans over Social Security, showing that the president had command of the stage. That’s why it’ll be interesting to see if GOP members restrain themselves so as to not give the president the opportunity this year.

The suspense this Super Tuesday may be in watching how all of the networks try to make the night suspenseful.
Some 16 states and one territory will vote: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. A Democratic caucus also is being held in American Samoa, and Iowa Democrats also will reveal their results.
But with Joe Biden and Donald Trump on their way to a rematch in the 2024 presidential election, coverage Tuesday will focus on margins of victory, when each candidate will clinch their nomination and what’s next from now until Election Day. There also will be attention to down-ballot races, including California’s Senate primary to fill the seat long held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca).

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding President Biden’s age, dubbing it a “legitimate” campaign issue. A small contingent of journalists gathered near the Canadian border earlier this morning to watch as Dixville Notch, Nh, continued its tradition of casting the first ballots on an election day.
Nikki Haley cleaned Donald Trump’s clock in this hamlet — 6 votes to none.
As the day goes on, network correspondents are fanning out across the state at precincts to talk to actual voters, after months in which the first-in-the-nation primary was judged and assessed by polls. Commentary and analysis is focusing on whether
Haley and her top surrogate, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, blitzed the airwaves on Monday, while Trump held a final rally in Laconia, Nh, where he predicted that Haley would be out of the race after tonight. He was interrupted by climate protesters, who have been a frequent presence at events in recent days.

If you follow politics or regularly consume the news, you might feel like Donald Trump is all around you. As you read this, you might well be imagining, with unsettling precision, the former president’s voice billowing filth and invective in your brain.
Chris Hayes, the MSNBC primetime host, thinks about Trump a lot — and he’s sick of it. “It’s a kind of prison,” he tells Rolling Stone of his, and the nation’s, preoccupation with the former president.
Yet, Hayes says, the media needs to cover Trump more.

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Viewership for the fourth Republican debate fell since the last event, drawing more than 4 million for Nexstar’s NewsNation and its simulcast on The CW.
But it was a record night for NewsNation, which drew 1.6 million viewers for its debate coverage, the largest audience in its history, according to Nielsen’s early fast national numbers. Another 2.5 million watched the simulcast on The CW, giving it its most watched program since 2018. In the 25-54 demo, NewsNation drew more than 350,000 viewers and The CW drew nearly 500,000.
That said, the debate audience was down from the last event in November, continuing a trend since the first GOP gathering. Some 7.51 million watched the Nov. 8 debate across NBC News and its streaming and digital platforms. That debate averaged 6.86 million viewers on NBC alone.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis squaring off against California Governor Gavin Newsom in a debate moderated by Sean Hannity? Sounds like an opportunity for another round of cable-news professional wrestling.
The host hopes to keep the figure-four leg locks and piledrivers to a minimum.
“It’s not going to be PBS. I don’t want it to be PBS. PBS bores me,” Hannity says during a recent conversation in his office at Fox News Channel’s New York headquarters. Still, he adds, “if they want to have a food fight, you know what? Been there, done that. No thanks. It’s a format that I think is stale and doesn’t work. It’s predictable. For me, I’m much more interested in ‘Why do you believe that? ‘Explain this to me.’ ‘How do you not see this part of it?’ Trying to elicit answers, smart answers from people.”

Spoiler Alert: This article includes details of Sunday’s series finale of Showtime’s docuseries The Circus.
Showtime’s The Circus launched eight years ago with a title that suggested politics infused with a bit of crazy spectacle, but it ended tonight with anxiety, angst and even a sense of dread for what’s ahead.
The docuseries wrapped up after an eventful week: Donald Trump testifying in his civil trial, off-year elections that saw some unexpected Democratic wins and a Republican debate that may ultimately prove to be irrelevant.
But what stood out in the episode were a series of interviews from figures across the political spectrum, which has refracted quite a bit since The Circus debuted. The finale reflected the precarious state of politics, driven largely by the rise and endurance of Donald Trump and the reaction against him and his movement.

“The Circus” is set to end its eight-season run on Showtime.
The political docuseries, which is hosted by correspondents John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon and Jennifer Palmieri, will come to a close after its current season wraps up. Its final episode will premiere Sunday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Et/Pt on Showtime, and will stream on Paramount+ for viewers with the Paramount+ Showtime plan.
First launched amid the 2016 presidential election, “The Circus” ran for 130 episodes as it broke down the ins and outs of each week’s chaotic political news, including Donald Trump’s turbulent presidency, the 2020 election and the subsequent Jan. 6 insurrection that followed, the Covid-19 pandemic and the international tensions occurring during Joe Biden’s presidency.

The Circus, the Showtime docuseries that presented the chaotic world of politics in a weekly narrative, is ending its run after eight seasons and 130 episodes.
The show, with regular host correspondents are Mark McKinnon, John Heilemann and Jennifer Palmieri, will have its final episode on Sunday on Paramount+ with Showtime and Showtime linear.
Showtime decided not to renew the series amid changes at the premium network. One of the big champions of the show, David Nevins, departed last year.
The Circus is ending just on the cusp of the 2024 presidential cycle, in what might be a fight-to-the-finish rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the latter of whom is likely to spend the better part of the year in court facing criminal charges.
The show’s hosts haven’t foreclosed the possibility of continuing on another platform, but they gave credit to Showtime for embracing the idea for The Circus and staying with it.

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: A prominent TV reporter walks into a bar…
A handful of the news anchors at MSNBC recently held a dinner to welcome Ana Cabrera, the former CNN journalist, to the network, where she has taken the reins of its 10 a.m. hour. Chris Jansing and Katy Tur, familiar faces to MSNBC viewers, were holding court, but Andrea Mitchell, a legendary Washington correspondent who has anchored an early afternoon show on MSNBC since 2008, was missing, due to making an appearance at Henry Kissinger’s 100th birthday.
“I thought a 100th birthday party for somebody would end early,” Mitchell confesses. “But it didn’t.”
Cabrera, Jansing, Tur, Mitchell have all found time to get together more frequently in recent weeks. They, along with their colleague, José Díaz-Balart, are playing a more critical role at MSNBC — but not in hours when such significance might be expected.

MSNBC dominated Fox News and CNN during Friday’s ratings as cable news channels turned their attention to cover former President Donald Trump’s newly unsealed federal indictment.

NewsNation Anchor Markie Martin Says Viewers Are ‘Ready for a Change’ From Cable News ‘Echo Chamber’
Markie Martin shared a frustration with many longtime cable viewers about the divisive partisanship in national news organizations — which made joining the team of the nonpartisan news organization NewsNation a perfect fit.
“When you channel surf, it’s hard to find a cable news network that isn’t an echo chamber for its audience, and so, for years, I just thought that unbiased fair journalism doesn’t really exist as a whole,” Martin told TheWrap in a recent interview. “I think NewsNation was created at a time when American news consumers were ready for change, and they were ready to watch something that wasn’t an echo chamber.”
For Martin, who began her tenure co-hosting “Morning in America” alongside Adrienne Bankert on Monday, joining the network at the onset of its rebrand in 2020 enabled her to get in on the ground floor as a world-class team of journalists focuses on...

There are plenty of qualifiers to toss in front of Donald Trump’s name. You could go with “twice-impeached-once-indicted former president,” you could say “current presidential hopeful” — you could say a lot. But, on Wednesday night, “Alex Wagner Tonight” opted for none of those; instead, they simply called him “Florida man” in their on-screen chyron.
The graphic came during Wagner’s segment about the ongoing investigation into the mishandling of classified documents that were eventually seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. According to reports, Trump and his legal team were recently notified that he is in fact a target of that investigation, which could indicate that he’ll become a twice-indicted former president soon.
As Wagner explained the latest developments and context, the graphic on-screen behind her simply said “Florida Man Target of Investigation.” The image of Trump used was also taken from behind, so his face wasn’t on the screen.

But among them are three covert “Traitors” selected by host Alan Cumming who decide to “murder” a Faithful each night — after those Faithfuls have kicked out a player in the hopes of flushing out the Traitors. It’s Mafia meets “Big Brother,...

Chris Christie apparently isn’t all that interested in discussing former president Donald Trump while on the campaign trail. And to MSNBC’s Alex Wagner, that’s a bit hilarious, considering the “whole point” of Christie’s candidacy is to challenge Trump.
Wagner’s amusement came on Tuesday night’s episode of her show, in which she chuckled at an irritated quote Christie gave Mark Leibovich in a recent profile for The Atlantic: “You guys drive me crazy. All you want to do is talk about Trump. I’m sorry, I don’t think he’s the only topic to talk about in politics. And I’m not going to waste my hour with you this morning…on just continuing talking, asking, and answering the Donald Trump question from 18 different angles.”
“Does Chris Christie not realize that is the whole point of Chris Christie as a presidential candidate?” Wagner said.

This story about “The Mole” first appeared in the Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
There’s a moment in Episode 2 of Netflix’s “The Mole,” titled “Take No Prisoners,” where cable news host Alex Wagner comes into her own as a reality series emcee. Locking her cast of competitors in two separate sectors of a warehouse, she sets the stage for a game that pits the two groups against each other. They have to decide between sitting tight for 45 minutes and winning some cash or pushing a big, red nuke-launcher of a button to get immunity from elimination.

“Once again, you’re locked up, and now you have to choose: Do the time and win the money, or do the crime and win a shot at exemption,” she explains dramatically over an intercom. “Your time starts now.

Alex Wagner Savages Ron DeSantis’ ‘Terrifying Laugh': ‘Choreographed Attempt to Be Likeable’ (Video)
Alex Wagner opened her MSNBC show “Alex Wagner Tonight” Tuesday with a video tribute to Dwight D. Eisenhower, pioneer of presidential television and the successful “I Like Ike” campaign — and with the notion of “likability” top of mind.
“Today there is one person in particular whose ability to be ‘likable enough’ is really sort of in question: Florida governor Ron DeSantis,” Wagner said.
With a screenshot of DeSantis reeling backwards in laughter over her left shoulder, Wagner began dismantling what she said was a “choreographed” campaign to make the salty statesman, on the brink of announcing his bid for the GOP nomination, seem more human.
“Mr. DeSantis has already made a few early visits to campaign states in a sort of choreographed attempt to be likable,” Wagner said. “According to the New York Times, DeSantis and his team had internal conversations acknowledging the need for him to engage in the...

“This is not exactly the show we expected to do today,” said Warner Bros Discovery ad boss Jon Steinlauf in opening his company’s second Upfronts presentation as a merged company.
That is both an understatement and sums up the entire week. “It’s been a very weird week,” one network boss told Deadline.
While the focus of the upfronts has been increasingly moving to streaming, this year’s event highlighted the struggle that the linear broadcast networks have on the scripted side of the business. ABC unveiled an almost entirely unscripted schedule, Gordon Ramsay cooked up another show for Fox, becoming its lynchpin, CBS announced a fall schedule that could be decimated by the strike and The CW turned to international acquisitions and reality shows instead of superheroes.
As The CW President Dennis Miller said, “the young-adult audience is not making an appointment with broadcast television today.”

Update: Fox News issued another statement to address potential changes to its primetime schedule, this time on the status of Laura Ingraham.
A network spokesperson said, “Reports based on various tweets by left wing activists are wildly inaccurate — Laura Ingraham, the top-rated woman in cable news, is now and will continue to be a prominent host and integral part of the Fox News lineup.”
The latest Fox News statement does not address whether she will remain in her 10 p.m. Et time period, but the network statement is a pushback on social media rumors that she is exiting.
The speculation about Ingraham started after the Drudge Report, in its main headline, reported that Fox News was about to overhaul its primetime line up, with Hannity leading the 8 p.m. hour and shows hosted by Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld taking the later slots. That left the question of what would happen to Ingraham.

From the moment an animated “Ted” opened the NBCUniversal upfront, voiced by Seth MacFarlane prior to the writers strike, it was clear this was going to be an abbreviated event. For starters, until a week ago, this was still going to be Linda Yaccarino’s Radio City Music Hall show. But with Yaccarino off running Twitter (“Ted” making a crack about the crazies now at Twitter earned the biggest inadvertent laugh of the morning), it was up to Mark Marshall, NBCU interim chairman, global advertising & partnerships, to make the pitch to advertisers.
“In all of our conversations leading up today, regardless of client or category, there has been one constant…this is going to be a very important year for your businesses,” Marshall said, counting 32 pharma launches, 60 auto releases (including 46 electric vehicles) and over 100 movie releases (“which puts us back to pre-pandemic levels”) this year. “We know this is a competitive year.

The backlash over CNN’s Donald Trump town hall, held Wednesday night in front of an audience made almost entirely of Trump supporters, showed no signs of dying down on Thursday. Which is likely why Anderson Cooper attempted to quell that backlash with a commentary during Thursday night’s episode of his CNN primetime show.
But just like the event itself, Cooper provoked far more criticism than agreement. Cooper, one critic said, acted like “a gaslighting scold.” And the event, another said, is “a desperate ploy for ratings by a network in crisis.” Oops.
The backlash is difficult to summarize, but the main thrust is that critics argue the event was an irresponsible mistake at every level. Complaints touched on the friendly audience, on the fact that aside from any mention of the 2020 election, moderator Kaitlan Collins allowed Trump to lie for minutes at a time with no pushback, and...

After moderating CNN’s town hall with Donald Trump, Kaitlan Collins is expected to be tapped as the new host of the network’s 9 p.m. hour, which has lacked a permanent occupant for more than a year.
The deal was being finalized before Wednesday night’s event, after CNN Worldwide CEO Chris Licht had decided to launch a primetime show around her in recent weeks, sources said. Puck News first reported on the plans for Collins.
Currently co-anchor of CNN This Morning, Collins generally received positive reviews for her attempts to fact check Trump and call out his mistruths at the event, while critics have blasted the format. After the event ended, the network was quick to praise her performance, saying she “exemplified what it means to be a world-class journalist.”
No announcement has been made, and a CNN spokesperson declined to comment on speculation about the timeslot.

Trump leveling a sexist attack against a woman who disagrees with him? Whomst among us could have seen it coming?
Donald Trump employed his preferred moniker for women he doesn’t like against CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, who hosted a town hall with the former president on Wednesday. When Collins attempted to pin down an answer from Trump regarding his retention of classified documents following his departure from the presidency, he lashed out — calling her “nasty.”
“Can I talk? Do you mind?” Trump said to Collins.

Lawrence O’Donnell thinks the reason behind the decision by Fox News to fire Tucker Carlson has not been fully exposed, but what is public shows that the right-wing personality has a “deeply sick mind.”
“I think there is more, much more that we don’t know about what was revealed in the discovery process of the Dominion [Voting Systems] case that forced Rupert Murdoch to decide to fire the biggest star on his network, who he was paying to publicly be a racist,” O’Donnell said at the start of a lengthy segment Wednesday night.
The host of MSNBC’s “The Last Word” was referring to reports that suggested that Murdoch, executive chairman of Fox Corp., along with other members of the company’s board, drew the line on Carlson over a text message that surfaced during the Dominion case, in which Carlson described watching a group of Trump supporters attack a young...
