With Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. became an A-list star and the face of one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters ever in 2008. Of course, there was one actor who left the superhero flick feeling completely let down by Marvel Studios. Yes, we’re talking of Terrence Howard, who donned the role of James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes; but was later replaced by Don Cheadle in the sequel, Iron Man 2.
But don’t worry, it seems Howard has moved on and has no ill will toward the franchise or his former co-star, Downey Jr., despite his initial shock and disappointment at not being cast as Rhodes in the later films.
Terrence Howard | Straight Talk with Daphne Phaneē
During the recent 3-hour chat on The Joe Rogan Experience, the Oscar-nominated actor, 55, delved into several of his theories about life and how we understand and interact with it as humans.

Dolly Parton has acted in multiple movies and started her own production company. In her youth, though, she didn’t have many opportunities to go to the movies. According to one person she dated before fame, she was unable to maintain focus through a movie.
Dolly Parton was always loud at the movies
While still in school, Parton began to develop her music career. She recorded songs she worked on with her uncle and even got some airtime on local radio stations. At this stage of her career she met Bobby Denton, an operations director at a radio station. The pair hit it off and went on several dates.
For years, Parton has been a bubbly, joyful public figure. Denton said she has always been this way, which sometimes made dates difficult.

While Dolly Parton is primarily a musician, she has acted in her fair share of movies. After her debut film role in Nine to Five, Parton established herself as an actor, picking up critical acclaim and even several awards nominations. Parton enjoyed acting, but some films were more enjoyable than others. She revealed one movie that was a particular joy to make.
Dolly Parton loved working on one movie
Parton starred in a handful of movies and said that her experience varied from set to set. One movie she particularly enjoyed making was not all that popular with critics, but that mattered little to her.
“One movie that was an absolute joy to make was Straight Talk,” she wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business. “I am as proud of it as of anything I have ever done.”

Terrence Howard, best known for his roles in popular flicks such as Iron Man and Hustle & Flow, recently spoke out about his alleged mistreatment and underpayment in Hollywood. However, it appears that many viewers were distracted by something else.
This time, it is not because of his acting abilities or charming smile. Well, all the focus was on his hair while he discussed his legal dispute with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). In an in-depth interview on Straight Talk with Daphne Phaneđ, Howard, 55, talked about his lawsuit and his allegations that he was underpaid while he was a cast member of the Fox series Empire.

But his distinctive hairstyle drew more attention, with one fan even remarking that the Chicago-born actor resembles one of the original “Charlie’s Angels”. It appears that viewers can’t get enough of them.

Dolly Parton doesn’t consider herself an actor, but she’s starred in a number of films. After her winning performance in 9 to 5, Parton acted in films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1992, Parton starred in Straight Talk, a film about a radio show host in Chicago. She starred alongside James Woods, who played an investigative journalist looking into her show. Parton said people warned her about him, but she liked him, even though she never spent time with him off the set.

Of all the actors to emerge in the 1970s, there are few, if any, as captivating, unpredictable and exciting as James Woods. He began the decade, and his on screen career for that matter, for legendary director Elia Kazan in The Visitors (1972), and in the next few years established himself as one of American film's most promising young performers. He turned up as villains in such classic TV shows as Kojak and Streets of San Francisco, but he also appeared in some major 70s movies too, such as 1973's The Way We Were, Arthur Penn's Night Movies (1975) and The Gambler (1975). But it was his performance in The Onion Field (1979) which really signalled his arrival, as the sociopathic cop killer Greg Powell. The film, based on Joseph Wambaugh's best-selling non-fiction book, was a critical smash and earned Woods his first wave of acclaim.

With readers turning to their home viewing options more than ever, this daily feature provides one new movie each day worth checking out on a major streaming platform.
Long before the immediacy of the internet and its attendant social media platforms, impotent rage and loose-lipped hatred had another home in America: talk radio. While the form itself isn’t dead — look no further than the continued popularity of everyone from Howard Stern to Glenn Beck — the world has many other more enticing outlets for emotional release. But the underlying desire for unfettered, rage-fueled outbursts remains, and Oliver Stone’s searing 1988 drama “Talk Radio” (sandwiched between his better-known hits “Wall Street” and “Born on the Fourth of July”) helps explain the market for unfiltered voices in whatever form they take.

NBCUniversal has unveiled a broad range of programming for the first slate of originals for its streaming service, which has officially been dubbed Peacock.
Perhaps the biggest titled announced for the service is a reboot of the classic sci-fi series “Battlestar Galactica,” with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail executive producing. This is the third version of the series to make it to television. The original aired for one season in 1978 on ABC, which was followed by a short-lived continuation called “Galactica 1980.” Sci Fi Channel (now Syfy) then rebooted the series back in 2003 with a three-hour miniseries whose cast included Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell among others. The success of that project led Syfy and Sky Television to commission a new series with the cast of the miniseries returning. That show ran for four seasons and also spawned two TV movies, wrapping up in 2009. A prequel series, “Caprica,” aired...

Robertson stars as Sophia Danko, an art student who begins a passionate romance with a former bull-riding champion (Eastwood) who is aiming for a comeback.

New Girl is back, y’all. No disrespect to last week’s premiere, but tonight felt like the level of hilarity, heartstring-pulling, and sharp storytelling that spoiled us last season. To wit, Jess and Nick once more earned their couplehood, from the minute he spit-smoothed her bangs to his final words to her (“I would have noticed you”); the mean girls — and boy — on the sidelines reaffirmed why we loved the loftmates so much; Schmidt was up to his usual douchebag jar-worthy antics… but almost redemptively guilty about his behavior, and Winston got the chance to play with an adorable kitteh.

A riveting action crime drama helmed by Ridley Scott, which was well written by Bolotin, alongside Warren Lewis (The 13th Warrior). That said, it's been a long time since Bolotin worked on a feature; the last feature being in 1999's Light It Up starring Usher Raymond, Forest Whitaker and Rosario Dawson, and prior to that had seven years to his last credits for That Night and Straight Talk. Whether that hiatus will pay off, remains to be seen.

"The Twilight Saga" producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are set to produce an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' latest novel "The Longest Ride" at Fox 2000.
Craig Bolotin ("Black Rain," "Straight Talk") has been tapped to pen the adaptation. The story follows two storylines that ultimately converge.
The first involves an elderly man trapped in a car accident. While fighting to remain conscious, he sees visions of his deceased wife and their life together.
The second follows a high school senior who meets a young bull rider with a secret. The book hits stores next month.
Fox picked up the rights to the title in February.

Wellington, Jun 21(Ani): A private school in Australia is reportedly teaching its students to consider baking a cake instead of having sex and urged them to take a vow of abstinence.

The classes delivered by a group called 'Straight Talk Australia', were given to students from grade 8 to grade 12.
The study material given to the students advised teenagers to indulge in activities like walking the dog and watching TV instead of having sex.

A superb character actor James Woods has turned in some remarkable performances. Here are a few of his underappreciated roles...
If you're looking for an actor who's far more interested in being a character than a hero, then surely James Woods is your man. He's built up a body of work over several decades that has rightly brought him a degree of acclaim - Videodrome, the brilliant Cop, Ghosts Of Mississippi, Contact, Salvador, and his growing collection of excellent TV roles - but in the 80s and 90s, he popped up in lots of films that are rarely talked about now.
There are so many seemingly lost great James Woods roles, that it seemed long overdue we try and right that particular wrong. So here's a collection of perhaps the lower profile, yet brilliant, performances from his career. And this is just a few of them.

It all began in 1986 at the Comedy Store in La where director Robert Zemeckis saw Charles Fleischer perform his stand-up comedy act. The act consisted of a lot of voices and sound effects, but what most impressed Zemekis was what he called ”his vocal presence.” And so when auditions began for the human star of Zemeckis’ upcoming live action/animated hybrid murder mystery noir film Who Framed Roger Rabbit — the part eventually played by Bob Hoskins — they called Fleischer. Not to read for that part, but to read with the actors auditioning for that part. Fleischer eventually got the part providing the voice for Roger.
That was 25 years ago. Charles Fleischer went on to voice Roger in some Roger Rabbit shorts and has acted in movies such as Dick Tracy, Straight Talk and Zodiac and recently provided one of the voices in Rango.

Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney. Brian Rosen and Su Armstrong’s Australian film production company Tree is taking root in North America. The producers plan to start shooting 33 Liberty Lane, a comedy starring Emily Watson, Sandra Oh, Melora Hardin and Nia Vardalos, in Winnipeg in February, and they’re developing Doll, a U.S. romantic drama, with Chartoff Productions’ Lynn Hendee. Englishman Peter Hewitt (Garfield, The Maiden Heist) will direct Liberty Lane from a script by Canadian-born Australian resident Stephen Ayres. The plot follows four down-on-their-luck women who turn to phone sex as a way to make a quick buck and enlist the help of a hooker (not yet cast). Sales agent LevelK has negotiated presales worth $700,000 to Canada (Union Pictures), Russia and other territories, Rosen tells Deadline. Tree is co-producing with Phyllis Laing’s Winnipeg-based Buffalo Gal Pictures. Doll is the saga of an up-and-coming...

San Diego’s Comic-Con International is the biggest event in the world devoted to genre pop culture. While the big Hollywood movies get the most mainstream press, there’s also a large, lesser known and promoted Independent Film Festival devoted to genre short films tucked away within the overall convention.
The Cci-iff, as it’s acronymed, runs completely concurrently with the convention with programming running from morning to night that includes films devoted to comic book-inspired movies, horror movies, sci-fi flicks, comedies and documentaries. There are also several panels on filmmaking sandwiched in between the on-screen entertainment.
The fest also gives out awards. This year’s juror panel includes filmmakers Steven-Charles Jaffee and Kyle Newman, plus entertainment journalist Borys Kit.
Programming blocks are broken up by genre and the full film lineup below gives the exact starting time of each short film. There’s also one feature film screening this year,...

Think Like a Man is a pretty good movie that did pretty damn well at the box office, so you know what that means. Sequel time! Sony Screen Gems announced that they are making a follow-up, and that screenwriters Keith Merryman and David A. Newman will return to write the new script. No word yet on what the sequel will cover, or who if anyone from the cast will be back, but the book that inspired the first movie, Steve Harvey's Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, does indeed have its own sequel, Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find, Keep, and Understand a Man. Here's hoping the movie is based on the chapter "The Cookie: More on Why Men Need It, Why You Should Keep It." "Cookie" means what you think it means.

This week marks the return of Dolly Parton to the big screen for the first time since Straight Talk, 20 years ago (though she voiced a character in 2011's Gnomeo & Juliet). Joyful Noise pits her against Queen Latifah in a battle of the busts I like to think of as "Gospel Glee."
All joking aside, Joyful Noise is a family-friendly comedy in the same vein as Footloose with a wholesome message that doesn't get in the way of the fun. Writer/director Todd Graff (Bandslam, The Beautician and the Beast) has a definite hit in this movie.
The Pacashau Sacred Divinity Choir is in the middle of a performance when long-time director Bernard Sparrow (Kris Kristofferson) suffers a fatal heart attack. In order to continue to the annual Joyful Noise gospel competition, the church leaders must choose between his wife, G.G. (Parton) and Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), who has been his second for many years.

This Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, Mark Wahlberg will be facing off against a beloved animated classic and a Georgia church choir. And every movie will have to contend with a little American tradition known as the NFL playoffs. I’m giving the edge to Wahlberg’s action thriller Contraband, but don’t be surprised if Disney’s 3-D re-release of Beauty and the Beast gives Marky Mark a run for the money.
Here’s how I think the box office will play out over the four-day holiday weekend:

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Bridesmaids – Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne
Priest – Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
Movie of the Week
Priest
The Stars: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
The Plot: A priest (Bettany) disobeys church law in order to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
The Buzz: I’ve got to be honest, I think this film looks horrible. It’s ‘Movie of the Week’ strictly as a path of least resistance. If I happen to have any regular readers out there, they’re certain to know that I’m not going anywhere near Bridesmaids, not even with a blindfold, and so Priest suddenly shines with promise — relatively speaking of course.
Priest continues director Scott Charles Stewart’s working affair with Paul Bettany (whom last teamed together on the unimpressive Legion). Bettany bugs me a bunch, anyone else? I’ve just never taken him well,...

Ed Harris just stamped his ticket on the Straight Talk Express.
HBO has announced that Harris, a four time Oscar nominee, will play Senator John McCain in its film adaptation of "Game Change," an insider account of the historic 2008 election, written by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.
The book follows the campaigns of Arizona Republican McCain and Illinois Democrat Barack Obama in the race for the White House, dispensing inside information and gossip from both camps. The film will be directed by Jay Roach, who won an Emmy for his 2008 HBO film "Recount," about the controversial 2000 Presidential election.
Harris, 60, is 12 years younger than McCain was when he ran for President in 2008.
Harris will be joined in the fictionalized campaign by Julianne Moore, who has already been cast as McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

According to her extensive three-part video diatribe, Mary describing finding out about her husband’s girlfriend when she opened a package labeled “Confidential” to find a letter from Steve’s mistress and now wife, Marjorie.
