It’s last call for a number of noteworthy movies leaving HBO Max in December. If you remember “Project Popcorn” – the strategy that saw all 2021 Warner Bros. movies stream on HBO Max the same day they hit theaters – then “Mortal Kombat” and “Those Who Wish Me Dead” will sound familiar. The martial arts reboot and Taylor Sheridan thriller, respectively, will be leaving the streaming service this month.
It’s also final call for Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead,” the extended version of Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor” and Edgar Wright’s terrific sci-fi action-comedy “The World’s End” if auteurs are your thing. “Planet Earth” and “Planet Earth II” are also leaving the streaming service soon.
Here’s the full list of what’s leaving HBO Max in December 2022.

Rip Torn, who played characters from Judas Iscariot to the producer on The Larry Sanders Show, dies at 88.
Respected and versatile character actor Rip Torn died Tuesday in Lakeville, Conn., according to Variety. Publicist Rick Miramontez did not release a cause of death, but said Torn was with his wife, Amy Wright, and two daughters, Katie and Angelica. He was 88.
Torn believed actors should “play drama as comedy and comedy as drama,” according to the statement, and the actor was equally at home both. He starred in comedies like Albert Brooks' Defending Your Life and the Men in Black films, as well as TV comedies 30 Rock, playing General Electric CEO Don Geiss, mentor to Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Netflix has just released their lists of what films and TV shows we will see added in February…and what films and TV shows will vanish.
First, the good news: quite a few classic and popular TV shows are making the grade on the streaming service, including the first five seasons of Mash, Hawaii 5-0, and the new season of House of Cards. New additions to the film list include RoboCop, The Brothers Bloom, and Gimme Shelter. While there’s not a lot of quality stuff on offer, there are at least a few new films and TV shows that we can enjoy on the Netflix streaming service.
Now for the bad news: quite a number of favorites are going to vanish from Netflix come February 1. Among these are several James Bond films, Zodiac, Jane Eyre, and Dredd. The TV shows fare even worse, with tons of BBC shows expiring,...

Having come to the conclusion that it's genuinely useful to tell its users what movies will soon be expiring from its service, Netflix is now releasing a list of the films that will disappear from its coffers (some presumably only for a short time) at the end of every month. Here is a list of what will expire on February 1. Several James Bond films will disappear from Netflix — since they have many times before, expect to see them return at some point soon. We will update the list closer to the end of the month with additional titles.February 1Blackadder (Seasons 1–4) A View to a Kill Airheads Apocalypse Now Apocalypse Now Redux Babes in Toyland Batman & Robin Batman Forever Batman Returns Cocoon: The Return Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Down Periscope Fawlty Towers (Seasons 1–2) For Your Eyes Only From Russia With Love Goldfinger Hotel Babylon (Seasons 1–4) Jane Eyre Live...

This year's Oscar-nominated actors and actresses delivered the best performances of the year on the big screen, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. And on Sunday, a few of those contenders will take home Oscars, but many of this year's hopefuls are likely still hoping to forget some of their past roles -- in poorly reviewed movies like Down Periscope, Fool's Gold, The Watch, Speed 2 and 2012. In fact, they probably hoped Oscar voters didn't recall those parts. Photos: 10 Outrageous Quotes From This Year's Oscar-Nominated Screenplays But now that voting for the 86th

Roger Ebert once famously wrote that no film featuring Harry Dean Stanton could be bad. While 1996's Down Periscope might prove that statement technically incorrect, Sophie Huber's Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction makes a stirring case for the greatness of the now-87-year-old actor, whose particular blend of weary sorrow, no-nonsense feistiness, and philosophical cool has enhanced classics like Cool Hand Luke, Two-Lane Blacktop, Repo Man, and Paris, Texas, the last of which gave the legendary character actor his first leading role. Huber's documentary takes an expressionistic approach to portraiture, interweaving commentary from admiring friends and collaborators (Sam Shepard, Wim Wenders, Kris Kristofferson, David Lynch) with both smeary sho...

Well, there's no doubt that Kelsey Grammer knows how to play bad. For years he terrorized Bart Simpson as the voice of Sideshow Bob on "The Simpsons," and the recently canceled "Boss" found him as a scheming politician. But he also knows how to turn a phrase and work it over, as he adeptly showed paying the lead on the hit sitcom "Frasier," and yet, a notable big screen career has eluded the actor. There's only so much "Down Periscope" a nation can take. But now the actor is going to the school of Michael Bay. Grammer has landed the villain role in "Transformers 4," where he'll star alongside Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci and Jack Reynor. Plot details are of course under wraps (like they matter). Grammer will play the blandly named Harold Attinger, a counter-intelligence who we presume has intelligence he uses to counter the Autobots or whatever. Explosions!

A classic foe returns to Doctor Who, in the Mark Gatiss-penned Cold War. Here's our spoiler-free review...
"It never rains, but it pours"
I used to have a theory, until Harrison Ford came and sullied things slightly. And it was this: there's no such thing as a bad film set on a submarine. Even Down Periscope, the Kelsey Grammer-headlined spoof of sorts, worked better than it felt it should have done. I never got far enough past Harrison Ford's Russian accent in K-19: The Widowmaker to call it either way though.
Following the divisive The Rings Of Akhaten, then, this week's Doctor Who heads underwater. It's toned down the singing (although not entirely, but it's not what you think), and headed to colder comforts. And while it's not a spectacular episode, Cold War does little to sully my academically non-proven theory.

ABC's new show Last Resort surfaced last week with its first episode, "Captain," and our TV Fanatic round table team of Carla Day, Matt Richenthal, Jim Garner and Christine Orlando are still finding their sea legs after this wild ride.

What was your favorite scene?
Carla: The showdown between Captain Chaplin and the Us military. That was when the lines were drawn and the USS Colorado officially went rogue. Chaplin proved he would do whatever was necessary to protect himself and his crew. It was a smart, calculated decision.
Matt: The crew dancing around to La Bamba. You've been warned: these folks can groove!
Jim: I loved the Navy Seal trying to get drunk and the local thugs...

Holy smoke! It looks like everybody's favorite talking dog and his boy companion are back in action.
The "Rocky and Bullwinkle" characters are coming to the big screen in "Mr. Peabody & Sherman," minus one anthropomorphic moose and squirrel duo, but packing some serious star power.
Cinema Blend reports that the Dreamworks Animation project is moving forward after a stall, having found its lead in "Modern Family" star Ty Burrell, who will replace Robert Downey Jr. as the bespectacled pooch. Sherman, Mr. Peabody's adopted human, will be voiced by 8-year-old Max Charles, who has had minor roles on "Community" and "True Blood," and will star as a young Peter Parker in the soon-to-be-released "The Amazing Spider-Man."
While the characters are best known for their short segments in between larger portions of "Rocky and Bullwinkle," this movie will have them flying solo as they scour the universe for their missing Wabac machine...

Here’s a first look at the official one sheet for Scream of the Banshee, one of the eight After Dark Originals arriving in theaters early next year. Directed by Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion) and starring Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and Lauren Holly (Down Periscope).
The story begins when a college Professor opens up a strange, ornate box discovered in the basement of a University. She and her students hear a horrifying scream belonging to that of a bloodthirsty banshee. They think nothing of it, until that scream begins to haunt all that heard it in strange and surreal ways. According to Irish lore, if you hear a Banshee scream, you will die – which is what starts happening to them one by one, as the creature starts taking their lives…...

One of our favorite Simpsons characters, nay villains of all times, Sideshow Bob returned to the show last night in "The Bob Next Door" so expect this to be an extremely biased review. Well, yes, technically reviews are biased, but you get the idea.
So what was this episode's excuse for breaking out the convict who's serving at least a few life sentences by now? Like everything else, blame it on the bad economy, of course! The whole Face/Off style of getting Bob out of prison was actually pretty clever and we'll admit it, suprised us.
The episode definitely had a strong plot line with good twists, and as much as we hate to say anything bad about the episode, the jokes just weren't there. We always appreciate a good throwback to the infamous "rake joke" and poor Bob having to suppress his love of the theater, but the...

Lightning rod of creativity Uwe Boll has tapped former sideburns-wearer Luke Perry to star in his newest masterpiece The Storm. The Storm, so says a press release, is about a devastating storm. Forgive us for waxing nostalgic, but we remember a time when we couldn’t go into a girl’s bedroom without Tiger Beat cut-outs of Mr. Perry festooned on every corner. Okay....we’re making that up. We never made it as far as their bedroom. Unless you count our cousin Mindy in Scarsdale, but let’s not get into that story right now. But the point is, Perry used to be King. And now he’s working with Uwe Boll. Perry’s co-star will be Lauren Holly, whose credits include The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Down Periscope and the heavily acronymed NCIS. While we applaud Herr Boll for branching out from his video game roots, something tells...
