There’s a CineVita coming to town.
Theatrical production group For the Record is launching the “live cinema” venue at Hollywood Park near SoFi Stadium in the new year. On Jan. 21, CineVita will open doors by hosting its debut show, Tarantino | Pulp Rock, an homage to auteur Quentin Tarantino. The show — designed to bring Tarantino’s “cinematic universe to life in a high-octane 360-degree concert experience,” courtesy of a live band and artists — mixes notable scenes and soundtracks from all nine of his films: Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Jackie Brown, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Tarantino | Pulp Rock is directed and adapted by Anderson Davis with music supervision and arrangements by Jesse Vargas, choreography by Sumie Maeda and costume design by Steve Mazurek. CineVita’s design team includes lighting design by Emmy winner Mike Berger and sound...

It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. It’s tough to compete with the likes of the Shaw Brothers and the drunken master known as Jackie Chan. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States decades ago, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen. Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo,...

For many moviegoers, there is pre- and post-Tarantino cinema. Before "Reservoir Dogs," movies couldn't be so brazenly self-referential up to the point that characters discussed pop culture like they were all the savviest kid in your friend circle. For those of us who wolfed down movies, music, books and the rest of it like a large deluxe pizza, early Tarantino validated our fixation; his successes made it seem possible for us to tell stories via our own referential patois. It sounds absurd now, but no one outside of scenarists like Daniel Waters and Shane Black dared to write like this.
Somewhere in between "Kill Bill" chapters, Hollywood types began wondering if Tarantino's style of filmmaking had pigeonholed him to the point of self-parody. Factor in the countless Tarantino wannabes that began sprouting up in the mid-1990s, and it felt like the most daring thing the filmmaker could do...

Spoilers for "Wicked" follow.
At the outset of the production of the "Wicked" movie, it wasn't entirely clear what director Jon M. Chu and company were planning to do with the daunting prospect of adapting both Gregory Maguire's novel and the stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman to the big screen. Initially conceived and announced as a single film, Chu ended up revealing shortly before principal photography commenced in 2022 that the movie would be split into two parts. Chu stated that the reason for this is because "As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years." Schwartz echoed Chu's sentiments, adding that the song "Defying Gravity," which is the close of the first act in the musical, is "written specifically to bring a curtain down, and...

After three weeks at the top of the box office in the U.S., Sony Pictures' Ssu threequel Venom: The Last Dance has finally been dethroned - but the movie that claimed the No. 1 spot from the Lethal Protector didn't exactly make a huge splash.
Amazon MGM's holiday-themed fantasy adventure, Red One, took in around $11 million on Friday (this includes $3.7 million from Thursday previews), and is now on track to make an estimated $30 million over the weekend.
This wouldn't usually be considered a particularly disappointing bow, but with a reported budget of over $250 million, it might take a Christmas miracle for the movie to turn a profit for the studio.
Red One could perform better overseas, and it is the only major new release this weekend. Audiences also seem to be enjoying the movie, as it has received a surprisingly positive A- CinemaScore.

When it comes to boxing, Mike Tyson is a celebrated name in the field. To say he’s a popular and unparalleled fighter would be an understatement. Be it wrestling or boxing, Tyson has won several accolades.
His name has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Despite being a fierce fighter, the boxer has had his fair share of difficulties. And while most would assume it to be a gargantuan obstacle, it is quite the contrary.

In an interview, he opened up about his bittersweet relationship with anime. While this may seem all too funny, it ties well with his take on parenting and the industry as a whole. To add to that, it contrasts with the growing weeb culture among celebrities and internet personalities.

Jumanji director Jake Kasdan's Christmas-themed fantasy adventure, Red One, arrived in theatres today, and things are not looking good for the critically-panned movie's opening weekend at the domestic box office.
After taking in just $3.7 million in Thursday previews, the Amazon MGM film is on track to make between $30 million and $35 million this weekend, with some projections as low at $25 million. Taking a massive budget of $250 million (plus marketing costs) into account, and analysts believe it’ll take a Christmas miracle for Red One to turn a profit.
The movie could perform better overseas, of course, and it is the only major new release this weekend, so it should comfortably take the No. 1 spot from the surprisingly resilient Venom: The Last Dance.
Though the movie does have its share of defenders, Red One currently sits at 33% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 106 reviews. "Wrapped in slick packaging but wholly lacking in holiday magic,...

Another beloved movie is about to undergo the remake / reboot treatment next year. 1999’s horror-comedy Idle Hands was a box-office bomb on its initial release, but has since entered the realm of cult favorites.
Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Billy Bryk have been signed to write a “reimagining” of Idle Hands, which is planned to be released in the summer of 2025. They are also in talks to possibly direct the remake. Wolfhard and Bryk previously worked together on another horror-comedy, Hell of a Summer, which they wrote and directed, and starred in together. The two received a lot of critical acclaim for Hell of a Summer, which is quite a feat given their young ages; Wolfhard is 22, and Bryk is 25.
Finn Wolfhard achieved early notoriety because of his portrayal of Mike Wheeler in Netflix series Stranger Things. He had previously appeared in the series 100 and Supernatural, but as we all remember,...

“Stockholm Bloodbath” is a brave retelling of a dark part of Scandinavian history in the turbulent world of historical action movies. The movie, directed by Mikael Håfström, takes viewers into the harsh world of Sweden in the 1600s, turning a famous historical massacre into a shocking, genre-bending movie experience.
The movie takes place in 1520 and is based on the real-life Stockholm Bloodbath when Danish King Christian II killed many Swedish lords. That being said, this isn’t your average historical thriller. Håfström tells a crazy, stylized story that purposely isn’t very true to history. This makes the movie more like a humorous historical action movie like “Inglourious Basterds” than a typical period piece.
The movie takes a risky approach by combining exploitation film methods with modern storytelling methods. Claes Bang as King Christian II, Sophie Cookson, and Alba August are among the many famous actors in the show. They...

Quentin Tarantino has been pretty vocal about his retirement plans. The director has been expected to retire after his tenth film, which he is currently working on. However, Ridley Scott had some choice words to say about the Inglorious Basterds director.

Quentin Tarantino’s last film was expected to be The Movie Critic, which was set to star Brad Pitt. However, the film seems to be in the process of being reworked, leaving fans wondering what the auteur’s alleged final offering is going to be. Ridley Scott, though, thinks that Scorsese might be on the wrong track with his trajectory.

Nobody blends B-movie grit with A-list precision quite like Quentin Tarantino. With razor-sharp dialogue, an unmatched penchant for genre fusion, and whole-lotta feet, it is no wonder Tarantino’s work transformed the indie film scene in the early 90s.
John Travolta (L) and Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction | Credits: Miramax Films
With nine official films (and a last project on the cards), there’s everything here – from visceral revenge tales to character studies. This is our ranking of Tarantino’s films worst to best, in a quaint attempt to celebrate a director whose work remains endlessly cool; nevertheless, fiercely debated.
9. Death Proof (2007)
Death Proof is pure, audacious Tarantino. A tantalizing ode to ’70s B-movie thrills has Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike, a charming psycho who picks off talkative women with his “death-proof” car. While not everyone’s cup of tea, the movie’s stripped-down, no-studio-strings vibe and rapid-fire dialogue are undeniably Qt.

Director Quentin Taratino walks the walk when it comes to originality: he's been doing it his way since the '90s, making lots of movies that have gone on to become modern classics, including Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds. Like a lot of people, he's not enthusiastic about Hollywood's interest in remaking everything under the sun. But unlike a lot of people, he still isn't interested in those remakes even when they're great.
Take the example of Denis Villeneuve's two recent Dune movies, which adapt Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 sci-fi novel. Both movies received widespread critical acclaim. But as far as Tarantino is concerned, he watched David Lynch's 1986 Dune movie and doesn't need to revisit that story. “I saw [David Lynch’s] ‘Dune’ a couple of times. I don’t need to see that story again,” he said on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. “I don’t need to see spice worms.

Have you seen 'Ripley'? Have you seen 'Shogun'? And I'm like no,...

Unlike its predecessor, Joker: Folie à Deux has brutally failed to fare between both critics and general audiences, with a minority still standing up in praise for it. Quentin Tarantino is praising Todd Phillips and Joker: Folie à Deux after the Warner Bros. film bombed at the box office.
The Kill Bill director gave his thoughts on the Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga-starring film and shared why he enjoyed the DC Comics-based movie.
“I really, really liked it, really,” Tarantino said on the latest episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. “A lot. Like, tremendously, and I went to see it expecting to be impressed by the filmmaking. But I thought it was going to be an arms-length, intellectual exercise that ultimately I wouldn’t think worked like a movie, but that I would appreciate it for what it is.”
Tarantino added that he is “just nihilistic enough to kind of enjoy a movie that doesn’t quite work as a movie. That’s like a big, giant mess to some degree.”

There have been rumblings for several years that David Fincher is working on something in the Squid Game universe. Although nothing is official, sources have told Deadline that Fincher is developing a new English-language Squid Game series for Netflix, which will likely be his next project.
It was originally thought that Fincher would be helming a Squid Game movie, but it seems clear now that this would be a full series. Again, nothing is official, but the idea of Fincher tackling Squid Game is very interesting. Although I will admit, I would prefer to see him do another original project. Few Asian actresses boast the footing that Lucy Liu has achieved during her time in Hollywood. An American actress of Chinese descent, it has not been easy for her to reach the position she is in now, thanks to the many Asian stereotypes present in the West and the film industry’s fake ‘woke culture’.

Often portraying a reality that is so unlike actual life, Hollywood has constructed its own flawed reality when it comes to representing Asians. But at the same time, it is rooted in the deep history of stereotypes and prejudices the West has long harbored against the ‘Other’ people. And one person who has worked vehemently to change the narrative and criticized the film industry’s superficiality is Lucy Liu.

For the longest time, movies featured men avenging women who were victims of crimes committed by men. As the times changed and that trope waned in terms of popularity, women finally got to avenge themselves on the big screen. But there was a small, teeny-weeny issue: stories about women were still being written by men. So, even though we started getting female-led action thrillers, due to the inequality of opportunities in the entertainment business, the extent of the awesomeness of women was still limited by the imagination of men. There were exceptions in the form of The Bride Wore Black, Kill Bill, Gone Girl, Audition, The Long Kiss Goodnight, La Llorona, The Invisible Man, and Saani Kaayidham. But you’ve to admit that women telling stories about women dismantling the patriarchal system with some righteous violence, like Revenge, Violation, and Jennifer’s Body, were a cut above the rest. Don’t Move...

Action films have carved out their niche within the cinematic landscape, thriving on adrenaline-pumping sequences. In Timo Tjahjanto‘s latest Indonesian action film, The Shadow Strays, now streaming on Netflix, the female protagonist’s hyperkinetic fight scenes mirror her inner struggles and societal conflicts. Her retaliation to seeking restitution becomes another unauthorized mission in life to amend the traumas of a violent childhood incident that haunts her sleep. It propels her into a world where physical strength and bravery reign supreme and the inevitable clashes are not merely displays of power but moments of catharsis. However, despite the smooth choreography and stunning visual effects dominating the narrative, the plot feels predictable and clichéd. There is a major lack of originality and anything out of the ordinary in its storytelling.

Most animation studios are in the limelight for a bad reason. Be it pacing or inauthenticity, anime is being heavily criticized. This is especially true for Junji Ito’s magnum opus Uzumaki. With its botched visuals and inauthentic adaptation, One Piece animator couldn’t help but rant. This is especially true regarding the last few episodes of the series.

Revenge stories are one of horror’s most popular sub-genres that range from arthouse endeavors, to gritty grindhouse fare, to pulpy “torture porn” and everything in between. Turkish filmmaker Can Evrenol, who previously struck gold with the surreal and suffocating Baskin and Housewife, tries his hand in this territory and strikes a rich vein that bleeds deep. Sayara explores the same themes of family, forgiveness, trauma, and redemption that were present in his previous films. However, this hits even harder since the film’s opening text claims that this is all based on true stories. Sayara is a bloody baptism that leads to its titular character’s rebirth. It’s also one of 2024’s most savage movies, horror or otherwise.
Sayara delivers a potent one-two punch of brutality and provoking social commentary that thrives through its moving character work. Sayara (Duygu Kocabiyik) is a janitor at a martial arts gym...

Fox said late Sunday night that it is developing a drama series tentatively titled Billionaire Apocalypse that hails from The Morning Show creator Jay Carson and counts Hugh Jackman among its executive producers.
The drama, from Fox Entertainment Studios for the Fox network, is written and executive produced by Carson, creator and writer of Apple+’s Emmy-nominated Morning Show. Also serving as exec producers are Lawrence Bender (Flesh and Bone, Pulp Fiction) and Kevin Brown (Flesh and Bone, Trumbo).
The logline for the drama: “The richest man on the planet, 200 of his employees, and his family are forced to flee to his private island in the wake of a global financial collapse, where the employees and family members — who he’s treated as afterthoughts for decades — quickly realize he’s no longer rich and thus no longer in charge.”
The project, which has received a script commitment, is being distributed worldwide by Fox Entertainment Global.

When it comes to popular manga, Kagurabachi is all the rage currently. Hokazono Takeru gives a new meaning to gore and vengeance through his work. Be it art or writing, the series does absolute justice as one of the bestselling manga. Interestingly, Hokazono doesn’t shy from revealing the inspiration behind his work. Especially when it comes to iconic movies.

Like most mangaka, Hokazono’s work highlights Western influences. This is evident in his use of pop culture references. From Kill Bill to Marvel, the author took inspiration from legendary films. This also includes John Wick. Fans, however, feel that his love for the film is too obvious.

Over the years, Quentin Tarantino has built quite a reputation for being an amazing filmmaker, screenwriter, and even actor. Although he will go down in history for his work on films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and more, those movies were not what should be considered his original cult classic hit. In fact, before Tarantino became a household name with his work, his passion for storytelling and a knack for writing sharp, gritty dialogue paved the way to success.

Over the years, many fans have realized that the genesis of his career began with a story he sold to fund his debut film, Reservoir Dogs. This original cult hit was True Romance, a script that Tarantino wrote and sold, which became a stepping stone that enabled him to make his directorial debut.

Matt Damon first made his acting debut with 1988’s Mystic Pizza, but it was 1997’s Good Will Hunting that made him prominent worldwide. While it is counted among the greatest films ever made, it was produced by the highly infamous Harvey Weinstein.
When the Weinstein controversy first came to light, it was revealed that many of his associates allegedly knew about his actions but did not do anything about it. Surprisingly, Matt Damon was also allegedly among them, who knew about the producer harassing Gwyneth Paltrow but chose to stay silent.

Writer and director Quentin Tarantino is a well-known true-blue cinephile, a deeply devoted fan of films from a variety of genres and eras. He's a fan of everything from sleazy grindhouse exploitation films to classic westerns like the films of Howard Hawks, and he wears his influences loudly and proudly in his own films. So when asked about his favorite films of all time, he has different answers depending on how he feels. There is one movie that he claims to always include in his favorites, however, and he's been pretty effusive about his love for it on more than one occasion.
In an interview with The Talks, Tarantino shared his favorite three films (at that particular moment) and explained that even though two of his top three might shuffle around, he will always feel the need to share his love for the Sergio Leone spaghetti western "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Sza is tired of not being a bug. While they just get to crawl around all day, she’s stuck dealing with toxic relationship breakups, the mounting pressure of following up her two career-defining albums, and having a song like “Kill Bill” — which she started as a joke — garner more praise and success than “Nobody Gets Me,” the ballad she’s always wanted to write. The musician aired out this frustration on the latest episode of Hot Ones, where she threw back spicy wings and answered questions while disguised as a bug.

From One Piece to Bleach, most anime are jumping on the bandwagon of live-action adaptations. Kentaro Miura wished for his series’ live-action adaptation. However, with his untimely and sudden death, this remained unfulfilled. The mangaka pictured Guillermo Del Toro as the perfect director to recreate Berserk.

However, there has been no confirmation of a live-action movie so far. While Toro hasn’t made an official statement, there might be an alternative. Although it may not live up to Miura’s wish, Quentin Tarantino could direct the movie. Furthermore, the acclaimed director would notch up the adaptation.
Quentin Tarantino would bring out the explicit and dark nature of Berserk through his direction.

Quentin Tarantino has been an influential figure not only within the Hollywood industry but also outside of it. Many have taken note of how unique his methods of storytelling are and try their level best to adapt those. Even in the world of anime, he has been a figure many could look up to. One of the brightest bulbs in the New Hollywood marquee was former film critic and historian Peter Bogdanovich. Exploding onto the scene in 1968 with the still-topical mass-shooter thriller “Targets,” Bogdanovich followed this breakout success with a slew of successful films, including “The Last Picture Show,” which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, the screwball comedy “What’s Up, Doc?,” and the Depression-set road movie “Paper Moon.”
But for as much success as he could find early on in his career, what goes up must come down, and during the latter half of the 1970s, he struggled to keep his initial spark aflame. Finally, moving further away from the studio system, Bogdanovich scaled back his approach, shooting an adaptation of Paul Theroux’s “Saint Jack” on location in Singapore with German cinematographer Robby Müller and actor Ben Gazzara. For depicting so many situations and emotions without colors or motion, manga as a medium of storytelling is exceptional. The way mangaka craft their compelling stories, a reader can’t help but turn the page to see what’s up next. Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is no different.
The legacy of Naruto speaks volumes about how Kishimoto hooked millions to his creation with his exceptional skills as an artist and a storyteller. Every creator has their favorite works of fiction that they draw inspiration from. Besides manga like Dragon Ball and Akira, Kishimoto drew inspiration from movies.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the brand new trailer for their upcoming action-advernture Christmas comedy Red One, and it's considerable step up from the teaser trailer as Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson) and Jack O'Malley (Chris Evans) team-up to save Santa Claus (J. K. Simmons).
The new trailer takes a slightly more serious tone than the previous one and notably shifts the focus to Evans' character, who gets quite a bit more spotlight this time as he's recruited by the North Pole to aid their head of security, played by Johnson, in this high stakes rescue mission.
We don't want to read into it too much, but it seems clear the studios wanted to emphasize Evans' role a bit more. Here at JoBlo, we love physical media – Especially 4K discs. To a lot of us, the 4K revolution has really given some of our favourite movies new life, with the format allowing us to see pristine versions of classic films that come the closest to presenting them in a way that allows us to experience them the way first run audiences did when they came out. While DVD and Blu-ray were both great for their time, 4K is miraculous, with movies like The Crow looking better in this format than they have since their original theatrical runs. One of the reasons is that the people doing the 4K restorations usually go back to a movie’s negative to make it look as good as it can, and the people restoring these films are passionate (even if some efforts have been controversial).
Yet, some of our favorite movies still aren’t available in 4K.

Quentin Tarantino may be one of the finest filmmakers in the world, but he has built up quite the reputation over the years as a contentious man. He's nursed grudges against actors, executives, and film critics; he even slapped producer Don Murphy during a run-in at a West Hollywood restaurant. That said, I know lots of people who've worked with Tarantino, and every single one would happily work with him again. He can be intense and exacting to an exhausting degree, but at the end of the day he loves making movies and, according to those I know who've collaborated with him, he wants everyone on his sets to love the experience as much as he does.
I do, however, think he had a brat period, and I think it switched on and off between his Cannes coronation in 1994 with "Pulp Fiction" and the lead-up to the making of "Kill Bill.
