David J. Negron Sr., a conceptual painter, illustrator and storyboard artist with credits including Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park, died peacefully in his sleep on October 12, his family tells Deadline. He was 85.
“He was an inspiration to the Motion Picture community and the fine arts world,” the Negron family said in a statement. “We have lost a loving father, grandfather and a beautiful soul.”
Negron embarked on his career as a conceptual painter in the mid-1960s, going on to collaborate with Steven Spielberg on Indiana Jones and the Raiders of The Lost Ark and Jurassic Park, visualizing iconic scenes including the Giant Boulder chase for the former, along with various dinosaur environments for the latter. He also painted iconic images for Ridley Scott’s dystopian sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

A couple of weeks back, ABC confirmed that they were indeed moving forward with their Mockingbird/Hunter-led Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series, which is tentatively titled Marvel’s Most Wanted. The show will obviously feature Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood as they reprise their S.H.I.E.L.D. roles of Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, respectively, but we now have our first new bit of casting information.
Various outlets are reporting that Delroy Lindo (Ransom, Blood & Oil, The Chicago Code, Kidnapped, Malcolm X, Get Shorty) has signed on to play a Marvel Comics character called Dominic Fortune, who, as his name suggests, is a roguish fortune hunter and all-round cad. Fortune was created by Howard Chaykin back in 1975, and went on to appear in the 2010 miniseries, Hawkeye And Mockingbird.

Delroy Lindo (Ransom, Blood & Oil, The Chicago Code, Kidnapped, Malcolm X, Get Shorty) will join the previously announced Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood as none other than Dominic Fortune - the Marvel Comics fortune hunter created back in 1975 by Howard Chaykin, who went on to feature in the 2010 miniseries, Hawkeye And Mockingbird. No details on how the character will be integrated into the story, but it's a safe bet he'll be an ally to our loved-up heroes. Marvel’s Most Wanted was created and written by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The 1975 political thriller Three Days of the Condor is in the midst of getting a small screen remake.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Skydance Productions, which is owned by David Ellison, is currently shopping around a TV series remake of the Sydney Pollack classic, written by Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg. Smilovic is no stranger to television thrillers, having been the creator of two short-lived series in the genre, Kidnapped and My Own Worst Enemy. This show will mark Katzberg’s first foray into writing.

"American Crime," premiering March 5 on ABC, is being touted as an innovative series for spending an entire season focusing on a single murder case, taking a wide-ranging look at the victims, the accused, and their extended families as a way of taking a broader look at the dynamics of a whole community. Of course, this isn't the first time it's been tried, but it could mark the first time that the approach actually works on network TV.
"American Crime" has secured a high-powered cast, including Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman. Nonetheless, after this season is over, the show will move on to a new case next year, with a new cast -- should the show prove a success and earn a renewal.
If that sounds a lot like HBO's "True Detective," that's not an accident. As the old joke goes, imitation is the sincerest form of television. In fact, series...

Say this for "Zero Hour": It is not cookie-cutter television.
ABC's new drama, premiering at 8 p.m. Et Thursday (Feb. 14), is a sprawling conspiracy thriller in the mode of "The Da Vinci Code" that involves Nazis, a secretive sect charged with saving the world, an abduction and clocks. Especially clocks.
The series opens in Germany in 1938, where the secretive order of Rosicrucians -- "Christian mystics," as they're described later -- tries to stay a step ahead of the Nazis by pulling what looks like a giant coffin from a watery berth under a church. Members of their order have discovered that the Nazis have figured out a way to create human life without childbirth, which is a signal of the end times. Meanwhile, a dozen clockmakers in their employ are hard at work on their timepieces.

A Separation (Sony) This drama from Iran won the 2011 Best Foreign Film Oscar, telling the story of a couple who file for a legal separation, with the wife pushing for a divorce. He won’t leave his Alzheimer’s-afflicted father behind, while she is wanting to take their young daughter with her to the United States. After a series of misunderstandings, threats and legal actions, the couple find that there is more than just their marriage that’s on the line. Hyper-realistic to a fault, reminiscent of the neo-realist films that came out of post-ww II Europe, but also repressive and redundant in the extreme, with the characters seeming to throw the same temper tantrum for two hours straight while the story, meanwhile, seems stalled. Wildly overpraised film is a real litmus test, with viewers seeming to be staunch defenders or equally impassioned detractors. It did win an Oscar,...

We don't normally write stories about the weddings about "Lost" guest stars (unless they happen to be, like, Allison Janney or something), but when we found out about the marriage of 51-year-old Doug Hutchison and 16-year-old country singer Courtney Alexis Stodden, we felt we had to share.

Having seen his animated The Beatles movie Yellow Submarine axed earlier this year, director Robert Zemeckis has been scrambling around to find a project he could direct as his long-awaited return to live-action film-making, his first since Cast Away in 2000.
Just last week he was linked to a legal drama titled Flight with Denzel Washington but another week brings with it another potential project for Zemeckis. Vulture are reporting that Zemeckis has entered ‘serious talks’ with Warner Bros. to direct Replay, an adaptation of the late Ken Grimwood’s 1987 novel about “a 40-something radio journalist dies of a heart attack in 1988, but re-awakens back in 1963, in his 18-year-old body, with the memories and accrued wisdom of the previous 25 years intact. He always dies in 1988, and then goes back to the late sixties, but each time he has the ability to make a new sets of choices, resulting in different spouses,...

CBS, the home to so many nitty-gritty cop dramas, is trying something a bit different with Chaos, its new piece of Fridays-at-8/7c programming. But as my 8-year-old son will tell you when I labor to have him sample a new food, “different” can be an acquired taste.
Chaos presents Freddie Rodriguez (Six Feet Under) as a spanking-new CIA recruit assigned by prickly boss man Kurtwood Smith (Robocop) to the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services division (see titular acronym, forgiving the “H”). There, his team mates include Eric Close (Without a Trace), James Murray (Primeval) and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother,...

When Dana Delany guest starred on Castle last year, it reminded me of how much I missed seeing her in a worthy lead role on prime time
I've been a fan of Delany since her days on China Beach, but I haven't loved her in everything. Where I found her stint on Desperate Housewives ill-conceived and her short lived series Kidnapped virtually unmemorable, Body of Proof gives her a vehicle that can display her considerable talents.
But that doesn't mean the the series premiere didn't have its flaws. There wasn't much new here story wise, as we met Megan Hunt, a brilliant loner who needs to rebuild her life and career after a tragic accident alters both, perhaps not completely for the worse.
Why is it that all medical examiners on TV need to be somewhat socially inept and better investigators than the police detectives? It is a concept that...

An adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's "Powers" has been greenlit by FX, Bendis just confirmed through his Twitter account. "It's official!" the author jokes, "your window of reading Powers while it was still cool is running out." The series, which was announced for development last year with "Journeyman" creator Kevin Falls writing the pilot, tells the story of police detective in charge of investigating superhero-related homicides. If previous reports pan out, Michael Dinner ("Karen Sisco", "Kidnapped") will direct the pilot.

Replay is a brilliant 1987 science fiction novel by Ken Grimwood, a novel that is the spiritual precursor to the dark elements of the film Groundhog Day. The book begins with the protagonist having a heart attack and then waking up when he was eighteen, with all the memories of the next twenty five years intact. It's got that perfect mixture of hope at being able to live life differently, and existential dread at reliving all the things that never change. And then when the moment of his death approaches he once again has a heart attack and once again wakes up younger, but this time a little bit later. And so he goes, living life after life, the length of the replays diminishing like a count down.
Grimwood died in 2003, reportedly while working on a sequel to Replay, and the movie rights have bummed around for a few years, but...

Writer Jason Smilovic has set up a drama project at Fox. The project, titled The Detail, landed a script commitment with penalty after interest from multiple networks. It is executive produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, with Michael Dinner on board to direct. Produced by Sony TV, it is described as Ocean’s Eleven meets Revenge of the Nerds. It centers on a private detective, who, after being released from jail for a crime he didn’t commit, assembles a group of rejects, each with a unique talent, to form a detective agency and bring down his old business partner who framed him. Additionally, Smilovic is doing a p.1 rewrite on the feature Replay, which Goldsmith-Thomas is producing for Warner Bros. The project is based on the 1987 fantasy adventure novel by Ken Grimwood about a failing 43-year-old radio journalist who dies and wakes up in his 18-year-old body in 1963 with his memories of the next 25 years intact.

The Brett Ratner ("Prison Break") and Tom Spezialy ("Desperate Housewives") project "Chaos" has been finally picked up by CBS with a midseason order, reports Variety.
Three weeks ago things looked a bit ... well ... chaotic for the CIA drama, as CBS and 20th TV could not come to an agreement after weeks of negotiations. The actors' options were all let to expire on June 30. But it looks like a deal has been struck, including negotiations with all the actors involved.
Freddy Rodriguez ("Six Feet Under"), Eric Close ("Without a Trace"), James Murray (the British star of "Primeval"), Tim Blake Nelson ("Syriana," "Minority Report") and Carmen Ejogo ("Kidnapped") were all in the Ratner-directed pilot and will be returning for the show. "Chaos" joins the "Criminal Minds" spinoff, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" as a CBS midseason replacement.

Fox will be airing a new cop show beginning midseason on Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. The network has released a promo and four sneak peeks.
The city of Chicago is a paradox that serves as the setting for Ride-along, a new drama from Shawn Ryan ("The Shield," "The Unit"). Fox network may be about to close the book on Jack Bauer's small screen adventures after what has seemed like 120 years on the air—but it's banking that a host of new shows will catch on fire, just like 24 did nine years ago. And two of those shows, Lonestar and Terra Nova, caught our attention immediately. The first sounds like a contemporary version of Dallas, while the second is basically The Time Tunnel meets Jurassic Park.
Straight off, here's how the network describes both of those series.
Lonestar, a sophisticated and provocative drama set against the sprawling backdrop of big Texas oil, will premiere this fall. From Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman (Party of Five), writer Kyle Killen and directed by Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer), the compelling series stars newcomer James Wolk as a charismatic and brilliant schemer who has entangled himself in a deep, complex web from which he can’t break free.

Michael Mosley plays Jim in a new Off-Broadway production of "The Glass Menagerie." As the actor describes the iconic gentleman caller, "He has huge heart but not much between his ears. He really thinks he is helping Laura, but he's way off and ends up doing the worst possible thing, compounding an already difficult situation." After all, Mosley says, Jim is in no position to see her again. "I'd like to think that when Jim leaves their home he's learned something: that in the future he'd better shut up and check his impulses." Mosley was determined not to allow Jim to become a prop, which can easily happen; he envisions Jim as a disappointed man, despite his cocky style. And, as much as Jim has affected Laura, she has elicited troubling feelings in him that he can't quite define. "He says to her at one point, 'You make me feel sort of…...

The joke about CBS is that it might as well stand for Crimes Being Solved. Every night of the week on the network, bad guys are brought to justice by cops, crime labs, psychics, fake psychics and profilers. Occasionally even the "Ghost Whisperer" helps turn the wheels of justice.
Then again, it's hard to argue with success. CBS is enjoying another solid season in the ratings, and the past few times the network tried going way off-brand with dramas, well, we got "The Ex List," "Viva Laughlin" and "Swingtown" (though the latter, we maintain, was underrated).
So on the drama front this year, you can expect to see more of the same. As for comedies, CBS has become the home for well-crafted multi-camera sitcoms, and it's going almost exclusively with that format in its development this year.
Here's a look at some of the projects that have caught our eye.

Dana Delany is still a regular on "Desperate Housewives," but she's also being courted for a pilot at the network.
The producers of "Body of Evidence," an ABC drama about a medical examiner with a background in neurosurgery, have approached Delany about playing the lead in the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No deal has been signed, and even if one is, the pilot would still take second position to her role on "Housewives."
Her "Housewives" character, Katherine Mayfair, has had a bit of a rough year after her erstwhile fiance, Mike (James Denton), left her for Susan (Teri Hatcher). That left Katherine unhinged for a good portion of the season, although things have been looking up in recent weeks as Katherine has developed a relationship with another woman (guest star Julie Benz).
