The Late Show with Stephen Colbert welcomed its first in-studio guest in over 14 months with an arm wrestling contest.
John Krasinski appeared in the Ed Sullivan Theater office building – albeit in Colbert’s make-shift studio rather than the traditional spot – and Colbert welcomed him in an unusual way (see clip below).
Krasinski was on the CBS show presumably to promote the somewhat-delayed A Quiet Place Part II, which he wrote and directed, and appeared in flashback scenes alongside his wife Emily Blunt.
The Office star also revealed this week that he and ViacomCBS had decided not to move forward with a television version of his online hit Some Good News after the company’s streaming service, then called CBS All Access, struck a deal for the viral pandemic smash web series.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”

Few would claim that 2020 has been a good year. We’ve dealt with raging wildfires, rising racial tensions, a divisive election, and perhaps most overwhelming of all, the ongoing Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. But it’s that last point that compelled actor John Krasinski to want to spread a bit of positivity, and he did exactly that by starting a YouTube channel called Some Good News.
Kicking off back in March, it sees the actor as a news reporter sharing viral videos that focus on happy events and people helping one another. It’s known for featuring segments that include various folks that’ve shared the screen with Krasinski on the hit series The Office, as well as a collection of other high-profile celebrities, such as the entire cast of Hamilton, who all appeared over Zoom to perform a song for a young fan of the popular Broadway show.

How much will the events of 2020 break up a traditionally impenetrable Emmy category? Gold Derby contributing editors Riley Chow and Matt Noble and writer Charlie Bright join me in a new slugfest where we argue how much things will change in the variety categories this year. Chow, Noble and I are all predicting the same five shows to be nominated for Variety Talk Series: “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” But Bright believes there will be some major turnover, with shows like “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj” and “Desus & Mero” entering the mix, arguing, “There’s going to be a conscious effort on voters to look at diversity.” He adds that this won’t be the only criteria, but, “I think that’ll give...

Brie Larson recently came under a lot of fire for her new venture into the world of YouTube. Now, users are accusing the actress of deleting comments and knocking out dislikes.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, most celebrities and movie stars, stripped of their production sets and schedules, are self-isolating at home with little to do. As such, their interaction with fans has at least doubled in the past couple of months. And some of them, surprisingly enough, have started other projects fit for this period of social distancing. John Krasinski was one of them, whose Some Good News YouTube channel got a lot of traction. Though it ultimately received backlash after the actor sold it to CBS.
Nowadays, it’s easy to anger people, especially if you’re a celebrity. So it wasn’t really surprising to see Brie Larson go through the same ordeal when she announced her new YouTube channel.

John Krasinski has spoken out against the social media complaints regarding his decision to sell the popular YouTube show Some Good News to ViacomCBS.
Speaking on former The Office co-star Rainn Wilson’s Instagram Live show, Hey There, Human, Krasinski said he never intended to continue the show beyond eight episodes. The director of A Quiet Place wound up doing 14 videos, drawing 2.7 million views on YouTube for last week’s final episode.
The show, started two months ago, has a million followers on Instagram and 2.58 million YouTube subscribers. It draws anywhere from 2 million to 17 million for each show.
Krasinski said it takes more work to produce the show than it seems.
“I have these other things that I’m going to be having to do very soon, like Jack Ryan. More than that, writing, directing and producing — all those things — with a couple of my friends, was so much.”

John Krasinski recently broke his silence and clarified the reasons he sold his fledging feel-good web series Some Good News to ViacomCBS, a move which resulted in a backlash on social media and accusations of selling out.
Last week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that ViacomCBS had won the rights to Sgn after a "massive bidding war" with CBS All Access having the first window for new episodes before they move to a number of the company's linear networks. Under the "rich deal," Krasinski will continue to be involved as an executive producer, but he will not ...

Only day after its launch, HBO Max is the latest platform to set-up its own piece of quarantine-inspired content.
The streamer has given the greenlight to “Homeschool Musical: Class of 2020,” a scripted special which will give high school students whose spring musicals have been canceled the opportunity to sing and dance in front of an audience from the safety of their homes.
“Homeschool Musical” is inspired by Tony winner and “Younger” star Laura Benanti and her #SunshineSongs online movement, as part of which she offered to be an audience for students around the country who were no longer able to perform due to Covid-19. This move feels similar to John Krasinski’s “Some Good News,” which began life as an online format, but was recently purchased by ViacomCBS with the idea of turning it into a weekly series.

John Krasinski is shedding light on the real reason why he sold “Some Good News” to ViacomCBS and is stepping back from hosting duties.
“It was one of those things where I was only planning on doing eight of them during quarantine because I have these other things that I’m going to be having to do very soon, like Jack Ryan and all this other stuff,” Krasinski the actor said in a since-expired Instagram Live chat with his former “Office” co-star Rainn Wilson. YouTube channel Wowbagger saved the video, which you can watch above.
After news of the sale broke, Krasinski received some backlash from fans of the show who feared that his choice to step back from the show and sell it off to a mainstream network in lieu of keeping it on his YouTube channel, where it was free, was nothing more than a money-grab.

The world has been drastically changed by the Covid-19 coronavirus as it’s swept across the globe infecting 5.6 million people and killing over 350,000. It’s been a challenging time for many, as unemployment rates skyrocket, stay-at-home orders keep families stuck inside, and even simple trips to the grocery store can look like a disaster movie. There has rarely been a time when we’ve needed good news so much, so one celebrity stepped in and made a splash unlike anything we’ve seen since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Office and Jack Ryan star, John Krasinski, posted the first episode of Some Good News on March 29th, probably completely unaware that it would take off to the extent that it did. The show gained rapid popularity with its truly inspiring stories, cool guest stars like Oprah and Steven Spielberg, and Krasinski’s heartwarming events such as online graduations, proms,...

Appearing on Rainn Wilson's Instagram Live series "Hey There, Human," Krasinski explained why the project isn't "sustainable" given his many other commitments. John Krasinski‘s feel-good web series might be on hiatus, but he still has Some Good News to share: Krasinski is in advanced negotiations with ViacomCBS on a deal that would bring Some Good News content to the company’s various platforms.
The potential pact would include a weekly Some Good News series, expected to be available on CBS All Access. Krasinski, however, would not host the new show as he’s done on his YouTube channel, though he will executive-produce and likely have a recurring on-air presence. Additionally, short-form Sgn content will be created for various ViacomCBS outlets, including CBS News.

John Krasinski has cut an expansive deal with ViacomCBS to license the format of his unscripted web series “Some Good News” for programming to air across the company’s various streaming and linear networks.
The deal calls for Comedy Central Productions to produce a weekly “Some Good News” series in addition to short-form content that will be spread across ViacomCBS outlets including CBS News. It’s expected that the weekly series would premiere on CBS All Access, possibly with other windows on linear networks. Call them the Covid Contenders.
The coronavirus pandemic has fueled a boom in creativity since mid-March, with stay-at-home orders leading to some unique and completely unexpected programming in the past few months. Prior to mid-March, who would have predicted a “Parks and Recreation” reunion, or the fact that we would soon get to know what Ryan Seacrest’s home kitchen looks like?
None of these recent specials was planned, which is what makes this year’s Emmy race so unique. Most of the newfound specials and events created in the wake of Covid-19 — even the ones that have streamed only online — could be eligible for Emmy consideration. They might potentially upend the variety special categories and even the short form variety race.
The case of “Parks and Recreation” is unique. The beloved NBC comedy ended its run in 2015, but the cast and producers got back together last month to tell one more story.

Actor John Krasinski is bidding a temporary farewell to the hugely successful YouTube channel that he launched in quarantine.
Some Good News (Sgn) premiered on March 30, and, as its title suggests, is a news show dedicated entirely to good news -- which, for many, served as a sigh of relief amid the myriad and unending tragedies precipitated by the coronavirus pandemic.
