South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem continues to fumble promoting her new memoir in which she details killing her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, by shooting it in a gravel pit.
Noem appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show Wednesday to explain why she executed the dog after excerpts of the incident sparked backlash last week. Noem said she got Cricket, a wire-haired pointer just over a year old, to use for pheasant hunting.

The show has been available since 2022, and the streamer said it made the decision out of ‘an abundance of caution.’
If you haven’t caught “The Trial of Hunter Biden” on Fox Nation since its 2022 release, it appears you’re out of luck. TVNewser has confirmed that the mock trial miniseries focused on the alleged crimes of the president’s son is no longer available on the streamer, having been pulled after threats of a lawsuit from Biden’s legal team.
Key Details: Biden’s team is reportedly planning a lawsuit against Fox over alleged defamation. The series includes sexually explicit images of Biden that his lawyers have characterized as “revenge porn.” Fox has called the series “constitutionally protected coverage,” but removed it as it prepares for a potential legal battle. 60-Day Free Trial $5.99+ / month fox nation via directv stream

The 2024 U.S. presidential election could be one of the most consequential in the country’s history. CBS News is already one of the most trusted names in the business, and Variety reports that it is supplementing its coverage by adding a new streaming news show that covers all of a day’s most important story with a whip-around style.

A senior Fox News executive has exited the company following an investigation into violation of business conduct.
John Finley, who had been executive vice president of development, had been with the network for more than 20 years.
“Fox News Media and John Finley have parted ways after an independent investigation concluded that he had violated certain standards of business conduct,” said a Fox News spokesperson. The company did not elaborate, but The Washington Post, citing an unnamed source familiar with the investigation, reported that it had to do with the use of his position to benefit someone over whom he had influence. Finley did not respond to a request for comment.

CNN, whose brief foray into subscription streaming was snuffed out shortly after the close of the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger in April 2022, is officially getting real estate on Max.
A new offering, CNN Max, will be added to the streaming service in what Warner Bros. Discovery called an “open beta” on September 27. It will consist of a 24/7 stream pulled from the news network’s U.S. and international feeds, with a sprinkling of original fare, with user feedback welcomed. For many reasons, some having to do with contracts with pay-tv operators, it won’t be a full-over-the top version of linear CNN, and certain talent and new shows like the new 9 p.m. hour hosted by Kaitlan Collins will not be in the mix.
Wbd CEO David Zaslav hinted at the new venture during the company’s quarterly earnings call several weeks ago, saying news and sports make SVOD platforms “come alive.

Fox News’ retooled primetime lineup topped rivals in July, but all cable news networks saw audience erosion versus the same month a year ago.
Jesse Watters Primetime, which debuted in the 8 p.m. Et time slot on July 17, averaged 2.4 million viewers, an improvement over the temporary occupant of the period, Fox News Tonight, with its series of rotating hosts, after Tucker Carlson’s show was pulled in April. Tucker Carlson Tonight averaged 3.1 million viewers in July, 2022.
Another schedule change was the move of Greg Gutfeld up an hour to 10 p.m. Et. Gutfeld! averaged 1.98 million viewers and 252,000 in the 25-54 demo. The latter was enough to place it second in that category, to Fox News’s The Five, which averaged 254,000. The Five also was the most watched cable news show, averaging 2.59 million viewers.
Overall, though, audiences were off versus July 2022, with Fox News and CNN seeing the most significant drops.

When Sean Hannity handed off his Fox News program to Laura Ingraham last Thursday night, he had company.
On-air switches between cable-news hosts make for bright moments on Fox News, CNN and MSNBC, with the audiences at home and producers in studio looking at warm exchanges between personalities like Hannity and Ingraham or Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell. The chatter between former CNN hosts Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon generated so much attention that producers often let the segment bleed into Lemon’s first segment of the night and even time reserved for commercials. Congressman Matt Gaetz tried his hand at a brand of comedy that doesn’t go over well with most audiences in 2023 but is apparently fine on Fox News, pointing out Chris Christie’s weight to the delight of the in-studio audience.
Gaetz, the U.S. representative for Florida who was previously under investigation by the Department of Justice for sex trafficking and obstruction of justice, shot back at criticism Christie leveled at the House Judiciary Committee for which Gaetz is a part of as he appeared on “Hannity.”
“I’m more likely to take Chris Christie’s exercise plan than his fundraising strategy,” Gaetz quipped to the delight of a laughing studio audience.

Fox News’ lineup changes will shift two familiar faces, Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld, to primetime — a move that is bound to secure a ratings bump while ushering in a new brand of extremism that media experts warn could be a “liability” for the network in the wake of the Dominion Voting Systems settlement.

Fox News has settled on its new primetime lineup, promoting Jesse Watters to the 8 p.m. slot vacated by the abrupt firing of Tucker Carlson, pushing the “Gutfeld!” late-night juggernaut an hour earlier to 10 p.m. and putting Trace Gallagher to the 11 p.m. hour, the network announced Monday.
Also on the movie is Laura Ingraham, whose “Ingraham Angle” has solidly won the 10 p.m. spot since its 2017 debut, with a shift to 7 p.m. to kick off the weeknight primetime lineup, taking over Watters’ most recent start time. Gavin Newsom is opening up about the widespread criticism he faced as a result of his “incredible relationship” with former President Donald Trump during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a preview for Newsom’s upcoming interview with Sean Hannity, which will air on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Monday, the cable news host asked the California governor for his response to Trump’s indictment on Friday, which charged the former President 37 felony counts originating from an investigation into the classified government documents found at his Mar-a-Lago estate and other locations upon leaving office.

Lachlan Murdoch declined to comment on Wednesday about what’s next for Fox News’ programming after the shocking ouster of Tucker Carlson, but the Fox Corporation CEO predicted that the conservative channel would do just fine without him.
“Our program decisions are made with the long-term interests of the Fox News brand and the Fox News business,” Murdoch said during MoffettNathanson’s Technology, Media & Telecom Conference. “So we make those decisions really thinking broadly or long-term in terms of what’s the best thing for the company … And we’ve done it before, right? Bill O’Reilly was a superstar, Megyn Kelly was a superstar, Glenn Beck was a superstar and we’re able to move forward with programming decisions that ultimately result in long-term growth and profitability of the business.”
Carlson and Fox parted ways on April 24, shortly after the company settled a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.

Tucker Carlson is out at 8 p.m. on Fox News Channel, and the network hopes that a host of blue-chip advertisers that for years avoided his controversial hour will soon come back in.

Fox News topped March ratings, but all of the major news networks saw double digit erosion from the same month in 2022.
CNN saw some of the steepest declines, with it primetime audience down 61% from March of 2022, and dropping 73% in the 25-54 demo.
One factor: The lack of a dominant news story. The Ukraine war dominated the news cycle in the same period a year ago, and CNN actually saw a viewership spike back then.
But the network has been trying to retool its 9 Pm Et hour, scheduling special townhalls and one-on-one interviews. The network has said that the programming is a bit of an experiment that has not seen a full promotional push, while sources say it has been talking to figures like Gayle King and Charles Barkley about hosting a weekly show in the slot. Republican South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham had a lot to say on how the United States, specifically President Joe Biden, should respond after a Russian jet collided with a U.S. drone over the Black Sea.
“We should hold them accountable, and say that if you ever get near another U.S. jet flying in international waters, your airplane will be shot down,” Graham said while visiting Fox News’ “Hannity” on Tuesday. “What would Ronald Reagan do right now? He would start shooting Russian planes down if they were threatening our assets. American foreign policy is in free fall.”
Graham continued, claiming that BIden’s weakness simply prompts more international aggression, particularly from Russia.

Former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway appeared Wednesday on Fox News and used her time to once again push the narrative that both the government and media are consistently lying to the people in this country. Seth Meyers had a good laugh at the irony of that on Thursday night.
During her appearance on “Hannity,” Conway offered a “challenge” to those watching, specifically the ones “who don’t wear red hats, don’t consider themselves Maga, don’t consider themselves very strong political people.”
“I want you to ask yourself how many times you’ve been lied to, not just by this government, but how many times you were lied to by the people whose job it is to tell you the truth in media,” she said.

And of course, “The Daily Show” guest host Chelsea Handler couldn’t help but laugh at the irony there.
During her first show of the week, Handler called up a video from Greene — who Handler refers to as “Capitol Storming Barbie” — in which she complains that “becoming a member of Congress has made my life miserable.” According to Greene, the job is too intensive and has “practically turned into year-round,” preventing her from spending time at home with her family and friends to “just be regular people.”
“To quote Kim K. for a second, ‘Get your f—ing ass up and work!'” Handler mocked. “The point is, if you don’t like being in Congress,...

Serial liar/grifter-turned New York Congressman George Santos recused himself from sitting on any committee assignments on Tuesday. He also did an exclusive interview with the conservative network Oan about the many lies he told that didn’t go so well for him.
All of this was ammunition for Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue Tuesday night as laid into Santos, finally concluding that Santos has himself in a real “Catch-22” situation. Meaning, “I lied 22 times and I got catched!”
“Recusing himself will allow him to spend more time with his husband, Chris Hemsworth,” Kimmel said; obviously the joke here is that Santos lies so much, he’d even lie about being married to the incredibly hot “Thor” actor. “And though it seems pretty clear that most of his fellow Republicans do not want any part of him, he wants everyone to know this was a decision he made by himself.”

Fox News continued to dominate in the January cable news ratings, drawing more viewers, on average, than the combined audience of rivals MSNBC and CNN.
But when it comes to total day viewing, MSNBC and CNN each showed a slight improvement from the same month in 2022, as the weeklong drama of the House speaker election provided a ratings bump.
Fox News still led in total day viewers, averaging 1.35 million viewers, which was down 4 from the same month a year earlier. MSNBC averaged 703,000, up 7, while CNN posted 524,000, up 7.
In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 173,000, down 23, while CNN was up 7 with 107,000 and MSNBC rose 5 to 78,000.
All three networks were down in total viewers in primetime. Fox News averaged 1.95 million viewers, down 13, while MSNBC posted 1.05 million, down 9, and CNN was at 629,000, down 1. Sen. Lindsey Graham is standing by twice-impeached former President Donald Trump, fully backing him in his 2024 presidential bid. But for the hosts of “The View,” that’s not overly surprising. According to Alyssa Farah Griffin, Graham’s loyalty to Trump has been “a running joke” since she worked in the White House.
During an appearance on “Hannity” on Monday night, Graham passionately defended Trump, saying that he doesn’t think other GOP politicians “could do what he could, what he did.”
“I want him to have another shot. Unfinished business,” Graham added. “I’m for Donald Trump, because I know what I’m gonna get.”
“What, insurrection?” Farah Griffin joked.

Ken Starr, the prosecutor who led the relentless Whitewater investigation into then-President Bill Clinton and whose report on the case revealed intimate details of Clinton’s extramarital sexual relations, died Tuesday in Houston following complications from surgery. He was 76.
His death was announced by his family in a statement.
Nominated by former President Ronald Reagan for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Washington, D.C., circuit, Starr was U.S. solicitor general under President George H.W. Bush. He received his greatest public attention – political opponents might say infamy – as independent counsel during the Clinton Administration. Starr had initially been appointed to investigate the suicide of deputy White House counsel Vince Foster and the Whitewater real estate investments of Clinton.
The investigation would grow to encompass much more than its initial mission: After Clinton denied having “sexual relations” with former intern Monica Lewinsky, allegations of perjury...

MSNBC is already feeling the loss of a five-days-a-week Rachel Maddow. The network has seen a viewership decline at the 9 p.m. Et hour since Alex Wagner took over the timeslot last week, both in overall viewership and within the advertiser-coveted age demographic of viewers aged 25 to 54.
In the week of Wagner’s debut last Tuesday, MSNBC’s total viewership for the hour dropped 15, from 2 million viewers the week prior to 1.73 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. The show dropped an even steeper 23 in the key news demo, from 214,000 viewers for the full week before to 164,000.
Among all the cable news networks, Wagner’s show still managed to finish second for the hour on the four nights she aired, behind Fox News’ “Hannity,” which nabbed 2.8 million total viewers. “CNN Tonight” was a distant third, with 766,000.
However, Wagner finished only slightly ahead of CNN in the key demo, drawing 164,000 compared to 162,000 for CNN.

Alex Wagner’s primetime debut on MSNBC scored 2 million total viewers on Tuesday night, which blew CNN’s 9 p.m. hour out of the water but wasn’t enough to surpass Sean Hannity on Fox News.
The show — which featured guests Mark Leibovich, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) and Joyce Vance — managed about 183,000 viewers in the key cable news 25-54 demographic. That’s compared to “CNN Tonight,” which drew a total audience of about 866,000 and 176,000 in the key demo, according to Nielsen.
It should come as no surprise that Fox News Channel continues to dominate during primetime. In the 9 p.m. slot, “Hannity” scored about 3.1 million total viewers. Of those, 404,000 were in the demo.
“Hannity” beat MSNBC and CNN combined in both total viewers and demo viewers.

Alex Wagner’s debut as MSNBC’s Tuesday to Friday successor to Rachel Maddow drew an estimated 2 million viewers.
That was a solid number for the network, and its most watched show on Tuesday. It topped CNN Tonight, which had 866,000.
Fox News’ Hannity still handily won the timeslot with 3.1 million, a figure that was more than its two cable news rivals combined.
Wagner’s debut audience was a 27 dropoff from the 2.75 million for The Rachel Maddow Show on Monday. But that is not as big of an audience decline from MSNBC’s previous Tuesday to Friday occupant, MSNBC Prime, which featured a rotating series of hosts. Maddow has been MSNBC’s top rated show, and is the only non-Fox News show to have made it to the top five cable news shows last month.

Fox News came out on top in April as the most-watched and highest-rated news channel across primetime and total day viewers, according to Nielsen numbers reported by the network. April marked the 14th consecutive month that the network has ranked No. 1 in all of basic cable for total day viewers. This month, it secured 66 of the top 100 cable telecasts. On Thursday’s episode of his Fox News show, Tucker Carlson let forth quite a rant bashing unnamed reporters who have debunked a conspiracy theory he keeps plugging. And on his list of bash-ees? Apparently one of his own coworkers, national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin.
Tucker Carlson has for the last couple of weeks frequently talked about one of the lies Vladimir Putin has advanced to justify his unprovoked invasion of Ukraine: accusing the United States of funding biological weapons research in Ukraine. Carlson seems to believe this is true or at least possible, but it actually isn’t true. In fact, what actually happened is that the U.S. has been funding efforts to safely convert old Soviet-era bioweapons labs for use in more benign purposes.

A former top TV news producer alleged in a New York Times opinion piece that Chris Cuomo touched her inappropriately years ago when both of them worked for ABC News, a disclosure that threatens to add to public perception issues around the anchor, who leads CNN’s most-watched primetime program.

Cuomo, said Ross, apologized for the incident in an email, a picture of which is included in her article.

Fox News topped other cable networks in August, beating its cable news rivals as well other cable networks.
