David Thion, the French producer of Justine Triet’s best picture contender “Anatomy of a Fall,” is preparing a raft of projects helmed by daring female directors including Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet (“Anais in Love”) and Emily Atef (“More Than Ever”).
Speaking to Variety ahead of the Oscars, Thion said he and Marie-Ange Luciani, who also produced “Anatomy of a Fall,” have also signed Triet for her next movie, the topic of which hasn’t been decided yet.
“Justine has devoted herself fully to the awards campaign for ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ and she hasn’t had time to decide what her next film will be, but she has a few ideas,” Thion said. Purveyors of their own distinctive, genre-blurring sound “Thrash Grass”, The Native Howl has released their gritty new single and official music video for “Mercy” featuring Lzzy Hale of Halestorm (via Sumerian Records). With foreboding, foot-stomping rhythm, and the band’s raw intensity paired with Lzzy’s inimitable vocals, “Mercy” is bound to rattle listeners down to the bone. When asked about today’s release, the band shared:
“‘Mercy’ was written as our original Thrash Grass anthem, and to have our vocal hero Lzzy Hale singing on it is nothing short of a dream come true!
‘Mercy’ subtly tells the story of infamous Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, and the dichotomy of dark and light between him and his disgraced politician brother William. While pulling from additional themes of organized religion and corruption, the music bed’s growth in intensity throughout attempts to paint the process of all evil and wrong-doing slowly being brought to light.

Hot off the heels of ‘Dune: Part Two’ success, Ferguson is set to team up with Chris Pratt in a new thriller titled ‘Mercy.’ This Amazon MGM Studios production promises to be a gripping sci-fi tale set in a future where crime rates have skyrocketed.
In ‘Mercy,’ Pratt plays a detective caught up in a whirlwind of accusations over a violent crime. The challenge? He must clear his name. The storyline teases a suspense-filled journey, something we’re all looking forward to. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, known for the 2016 remake of ‘Ben-Hur,’ and penned by Marco van Belle, the project has a mixed team behind it (‘Ben-Hur’ was pretty bad). Still, with Charles Roven, a name recently nominated for an Oscar for ‘Oppenheimer,’ leading the production, expectations are high.

The number of feature films receiving tax credits to shoot in California are on the rise, with some productions spending big bucks to nab major incentives along the way.
Led by The Mandalorian & Grogu, five studio projects were selected to participate in California’s Film and TV tax credit program, the state’s film office announced on Monday. The Lucasfilm title will get $21.8 million in tax credits, becoming just the fifth movie in the history of the program to get at least $20 million. Three of those films were selected in the past two years and were chosen in consecutive quarters.
Disney was the biggest beneficiary in this round of incentives, with titles from the entertainment giant conditionally receiving $28.1 million to shoot in the state. Amazon Studios will also get $14.4 million for a pair of projects, including the Ben Affleck-led The Accountant 2. Absent from the list was Netflix and Warner Bros.,...

The upcoming Lucasfilm theatrical release “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is one of 15 films to secure an estimated $61 million in 2024 production tax incentives through California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
The California Film Commission touted Disney’s “Mandalorian & Grogu” as the biggest-budget movie to ever qualify for state’s tax program, which distributes $330 million annually in state tax credits to TV and film productions. The 15 films in total — a mix of independent and major studio productions — are projected to inject nearly $408 million in production spending into the state’s economy. “Mandalorian” alone is expected to generate $166 million in spending in the state. The Cfc estimates the production activity across the 15 films will generate jobs for an estimated 2,252 crew members, 598 cast members and 16,800 background performers poised to work across a combined 579 filming days.
Other titles securing incentive commitments include Amazon MGM Studios’ “The Accountant 2” starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal; Chris Pratt-starrer “Mercy,...

However, instead of making the character better, players claim it has made her unplayable. A Mercy player took to the r/Mercymains subreddit and said that they played a few matches with her and that it is “much...

Madame Web is the talk of the town at the moment. Despite its poor impression on the critics and its lackluster performance at the box office, the movie has created a significant amount of buzz among cinephiles. Apart from the fact that the movie is the newest addition to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Dakota Johnson being in the lead role also attracted a fair amount of attention.
Although the movie is not performing too well on the critical and commercial front, the press tour for the movie has fans pretty hooked. The promotional interviews for the film are as chaotic as they can be, and fans are all here for it. In a recent interview, Dakota Johnson’s co-stars bonded over the fact that none of them got a reply from the actress when they texted her.

Exclusive: In a lucrative pact, Amazon MGM Studios has landed U.S. theatrical rights to Levon’s Trade, with Prime Video taking streaming rights in a slew of major international territories, we can reveal.
As we told you last year, the film helmed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) will star Jason Statham (Fast & Furious franchise) and hail from producers Black Bear and BlockFilm. The screenplay was adapted by Sylvester Stallone (Creed), with revisions by Ayer, and is based on prolific comic author Chuck Dixon’s first novel in the “Levon” series.
Amazon MGM has signed a deal for a wide theatrical release in the U.S. Outside of the Prime Video international territories (where the film conceivably might go online only), Black Bear has sold Levon’s Trade independently to theatrical distributors in multiple overseas markets.
The movie will chart how Levon Cade (Statham) left his “profession” behind him...

In a deal made last week, Amazon MGM Studios has landed Mercy, a package with Chris Pratt attached to star, according to an insider with knowledge. Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) will direct the sci-fi thriller from a script penned by Marco van Belle (“Arthur & Merlin”).
This project comes to Amazon MGM Studios from Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe Award-winning producer Charles Roven (“American Hustle”), who received a second Academy Award nomination for Best Picture most recently on “Oppenheimer.” Roven will produce Mercy with Atlas Entertainment SVP Robert Amidon as part of the producing team alongside Bekmambetov’s Bezelevs and film producer Majd Nassif.
The film is targeting a spring start-of-production. Set in the near future when capital crime has increased, “Mercy” follows a detective (Pratt) who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.

Deadline reports that Chris Pratt is set to star in Mercy, a sci-fi movie package acquired by Amazon MGM Studios which will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov.
Pratt has worked with Amazon on several projects, including The Tomorrow War and The Terminal List, but Mercy will actually serve as a reunion between himself and Bekmambetov. You may have forgotten, as I did, that Pratt made an appearance in Wanted all the way back in 2008 where he found himself getting smashed in the face with a keyboard wielded by James McAvoy.
So, what’s Mercy all about? The movie is “set in the near future when capital crime has increased” and follows “a detective (Pratt] who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.” The script has been penned by Marco Van Belle (Arthur & Merlin) and produced by Charles Roven (Oppenheimer), with production expected to kick off this spring.

Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has just landed a big sci-fi film package it is setting a global theatrical release for in Mercy, starring Chris Pratt, directed by Timur Bekmambetov and produced by Oscar-nominated producer Charles Roven. I understand the deal closed in the past week with a spring start of production planned.
The project puts Pratt back in business with Amazon, which acquired his Skydance movie The Tomorrow War from Paramount and turned into a big Prime Video hit during the pandemic. He also has the series The Terminal List on Prime. The movie also reps a reunion for Pratt and Bekmambetov, who both worked on the latter’s 2008 Hollywood directorial debut Wanted, a $342 million-grossing, Oscar-nominated blockbuster based on Mark Millar’s comic book.

Amidst the potential 2024 majors––Jia Zhangke, Olivier Assayas, Leos Carax, Arnaud Desplechin, Paul Schrader, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa but a handful––we should invest as much hope in a new film from Alain Guiraudie. Late last year we reported on his feature Miséricorde (Mercy in English), and this week CG Cinéma’s Romain Blondeau announced the commencement of shooting with Claire Mathon (his Dp on Staying Vertical and Stranger By the Lake) in tow.
Miséricorde is said to follow a noir-like plot concerning Jérémie, a 30-year-old who returns to his native Saint-Martial for a friend’s funeral. While there “he must contend with rumors and suspicion, until he commits an irreparable act and finds himself at the centre of a police investigation.” Knowing Guiraudie’s unflinching visions of violence and sexuality (not least in his superb novel Now the Night Begins), I am already girding my loins. Well, well, well. Nxt now have the No Mercy Ple brand and this is the first version of the PPV which started back in 1999, right here in the UK! With that being said, let’s see what went down on the first Nxt: No Mercy…
Match #1: Blair Davenport def. Kelani Jordan The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The destructive Blair Davenport sent another message to the Nxt women’s locker room by defeating upstart newcomer Kelani Jordan to kick off Nxt No Mercy. Davenport mocked her opponent throughout the match, but her overconfidence backfired as Jordan rallied with her innovative and athletic offense. Despite the Nxt Universe firmly in her corner, Jordan couldn’t muster up enough to overcome her veteran opponent as Davenport’s suplex driver gave her the victory.
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Baron Corbin def. Bron Breakker The following is courtesy of wwe.

California rockers Rival Sons have announced that their second new album of 2023, Lightbringer, will arrive on October 20th. In advance of its release, the band has shared the lead single “Sweet Life.”
The album news comes in the midst of Rival Sons’ current North American tour supporting The Smashing Pumpkins (tickets available here). Lightbringer marks the follow-up and companion album to Rival Sons’ Darkfighter, which arrived on June 2nd of this year.
Regarding Lightbringer, guitarist Scott Holiday said in a press release, “When you do two albums back-to-back like this, there are a lot of things to think about. The first record has to pack enough of a punch and tell enough of a story for the second half to have an even bigger impact. Mercy, directed by Tony Dean Smith and written by Alex Right, revolves around the life of Afghan war veteran Dr. Michelle Miller, who comes face-to-face with the dreaded Quinn gang while treating Ryan Quinn, the younger brother of the gang’s livewire Sean Quinn. Mercy is a total genre flick, reveling in the cool moments expected from a slick action thriller. The characters are set up pretty quickly without dabbling in too much exposition. The plot can remind one of Die Hard, revamped with a female action heroine. Dr. Michelle Miller, played by Leah Gibson, is a conscientious Afghan war veteran who takes on the Quinn gang after they come looking for Ryan, not knowing who they are up against. On the other side is Sean Quinn, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who has his own issues with his family, which he hopes to sort out by taking out his brother Ryan.

Welcome back to Dead Time, where we explore the unexplained and the things that linger in the darkness. I hope you left a light on for me. The news that Tina Turner passed away today brought swift reaction from some of the biggest names in music, sports, television and politics.
President Joe Biden issued a statement Wednesday afternoon:
Before she was the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner was a farmer’s daughter in Tennessee. As a child, she sang in the church choir before becoming one of the most successful recording artists of all time.
With 12 Grammy Awards, she was the only woman to win in the pop, rock, and R&b categories, a signal of her versatility, creativity, and broad appeal. Millions flocked to her concerts. Her high-octane dance performances were legendary. And her iconic hits – including “Proud Mary,” “The Best,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It” – continue to be treasured, and sung at full volume, by generations of fans.
In addition to being a once-in-a-generation talent that changed American music forever, Tina’s personal strength was remarkable.

Jonathan Rhys Meyer (top) in the crime action thriller Mercy. Courtesy of Paramount
There isn’t much mercy in Mercy but there is a lot of action and stunt in this crime thriller set in a hospital, starring Leah Gibson (Jessica Jones), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Vikings) and Jon Voight (Coming Home).
Leah Gibson plays a surgeon at Mercy hospital, a former military doctor in the Afghanistan War, who finds herself caught in difficult spot when the wounded son of an Irish mafia leader (Jon Voight) is brought to her hospital, and the Irish mafia seize control of the hospital. As the mafia head and his hot-headed son (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) battle FBI agents guarding the wounded man, the doctor finds herself, and her young son, caught in the crossfire, forcing her to call upon her battlefield past.
There is a Die Hard vibe to Mercy but a little Taken too,...

Die Hard came out thirty-five years ago and we’re still seeing a steady stream of knock-offs rip-offs and cash-ins arriving. Case in point, Mercy, which like last year’s Assault on Va-33 puts a hospital under siege. Can the filmmakers deliver an entertaining action film, or is this, like so many other similar films, Doa?
While serving in Afghanistan Dr. Michelle Miller had her husband turn up as a patient in her field hospital, worse he had a bomb strapped to him. This leads to an agonized, and agonizing, exchange of dialogue “Get out Michelle, somebody’s got to be there for Bobby!” “No, I’m not leaving you!” followed by Frank rolling off the table so his detonation somehow doesn’t kill her.

Michelle Yeoh is celebrating the power of embracing one’s roots.
The Oscar-winning actress recently sat down for a one-on-one interview with Et Canada’s Brittnee Blair to discuss her latest Disney+ project, “American Born Chinese”. Yeoh hopes to inspire audiences to embrace their cultural heritage through the new series.
