NBCUniversal cashed in on Vivek Ramaswamy’s activist play on BuzzFeed.
The entertainment giant sold more than $10 million worth of shares in BuzzFeed Wednesday (3,176,923 shares at an average price of $3.1936, to be exact, worth about $10.1 million), taking advantage of a brief surge in the company’s stock price.
BuzzFeed stock soared Wednesday after the entrepreneur and former Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy disclosed that he had taken a 7.7 percent activist stake in the company, and would seek strategic changes.
This is not the first time that NBCU has taken opportunistic advantage of a stock price surge in BuzzFeed. A year ago it sold 5.7 million shares in the company after it announced a pivot to artificial intelligence and announced deals with OpenAI and Meta.
it is also worth noting that NBCU is also likely to lose the vast majority of its initial investment in BuzzFeed, despite the opportunistic sales. The company...

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has taken a 7.7% stake in BuzzFeed, according to a filing from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The former Republican presidential candidate’s SEC filing revealed the acquisition came between March 14 and May 21, making up 2.7 million shares. Costs of the shares ranged anywhere between $1.54 and $2.51, according to the filing.
Ramaswamy said in the filing that he believes BuzzFeed’s shares are “undervalued and represent an attractive investment opportunity.”

A statement from a BuzzFeed spokesperson acknowledged that Ramaswamy would be heard. “BuzzFeed is purposely structured to protect its editorial integrity. We are always open to hearing ideas from our shareholders.”

BuzzFeed has an activist investor, and it is a familiar name to close followers of Republican politics.
Vivek Ramaswamy, the entrepreneur who ran an unsuccessful campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has acquired a significant stake in the digital media company, with an SEC filing indicating that he intends to pursue an activist approach.
Ramaswamy dropped out of the GOP presidential race after the Iowa Caucus, and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
According to an SEC filing, Ramaswamy owns shares and call options worth just under $4 million, and equivalent to about 7.7% of BuzzFeed shares.
“The Reporting Person believes the securities of the Issuer are undervalued and represent an attractive investment opportunity,” the filing continues, adding that Ramaswamy “will seek to engage in a dialogue with the Issuer’s Board of Directors (the “Board”) and/or management about numerous operational and strategic opportunities to maximize shareholder value, including a shift in the Company’s strategy.

In a recent conversation on Vivek Ramaswamy’s podcast, The Truth Podcast, conservative commentator Ann Coulter sparked outrage with her offensive comments, among which were the declaration that she would not vote for Ramaswamy to be president due to his ethnic background as the child of Indian immigrants.
In the discussion, titled “Ann Coulter on the N Word: Nationalism,” Coulter first praised Ramaswamy’s opening monologue and stated, “That was a fantastic opening monologue. I, too, am a fan of yours, though I’m going to make a point of disagreeing with you so that it will be fun. You are so bright and articulate, and I guess I can call you articulate since you’re not an American black.”

Michael Cohen is back in court Tuesday for a second day of testimony in Donald Trump’s criminal trial, detailing to the jury how he repeatedly lied about his role in orchestrating hush money payments to “protect” the former president.
In 2018, when the public learned that Cohen had arranged a $130,000 payment in 2016 to porn star Stormy Daniels in order to buy her silence about an alleged affair with the former president, the lawyer denied that Trump’s campaign or company had anything to do with the arrangement.

Updated: House Speaker Mike Johnson is the latest figure to lend his support to Donald Trump and his claim that the New York hush money trial is a “sham.”
Johnson was in the background as Trump made his regular morning statement to the press in the hallway just outside the courtroom, and the speaker nodded at the former president as he made his way in.
Also joining Trump were other supporters, including Vivek Ramaswamy, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-fl) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. Ramaswamy and Burgum are among a number of vice presidential contenders to visit the courthouse to show their fealty to Trump, on trial for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Just minutes before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was set to get underway in April 2023, New York Post Editor-in-Chief Keith Poole and star columnist Miranda Devine were on a mission to find an extra seat. Inside the Washington Hilton hotel, the pair had a very special guest that they needed to accommodate and their table was oversubscribed. After some musical chairs among staffers, Vivek Ramaswamy spent much of the evening talking with Poole, a Brit feted as a “boy wonder” in Murdoch circles.
Poole, who like all Murdoch editors has a direct line to “the boss,” had already created waves in his handling of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential announcement. “Been There, Don That” was the headline that was tucked away on page 26 of the Nov. 22, 2022 edition of the Post. But it was the teaser at the bottom of the front page that went viral. “Florida man makes announcement.”
Soon, Poole would be in a pickle.

Right-wing Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida) is on Donald Trump‘s shortlist as a potential vice presidential pick.
Donald is said to be one of Trump’s most trusted surrogates and has been a loyalist of the former president.
However, old posts from Donalds’ Facebook page show the representative criticizing Trump. In 2011, one of Donalds’ posts says, “Trump won’t run. Thank God!” The post referenced Trump’s decision not to run against former President Barack Obama.
Other posts of Donalds directly attacking Trump on social media and in interviews from 2011 to 2012. Donalds was a Tea Party member and ran for Congress at the time. Donalds called out Trump’s trade policies and his birtherism conspiracy theory about Obama.
In the past, Donalds supported the privatization of programs such as Social Security and Medicare, calling them “vouchers.”

Donald Trump Jr. pressed his father, former President Donald Trump, to select a “strong “fighter” as his running mate.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump Jr. highlighted the importance of choosing the right vice president, wanting someone who can take a punch and hit back harder.
“What I want in that role is, I want a fighter,” stated Trump Jr., “I understand what they are going to throw at us.”
“In 2016, you needed someone to balance out [the ticket] — that’s where Mike Pence made sense, sort of the yin and yang, but [given] the vicious nature of the swamp and the insanity we see on a daily basis, you need someone who can take those hits,” he continued.
Trump Jr. reveals that he’s been pushing people such as Vivek Ramaswamy, a former GOP candidate, and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to be Trump’s running mate. Trump Jr.

Former President Donald Trump has attracted attention with his reversal on the issue of a ban on the Chinese-owned social media app, TikTok.
Last week, Trump took to his Truth Social account to express his thoughts on the proposed TikTok ban being debated in Congress. He wrote, “If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business.”
Trump’s post came shortly after a meeting with GOP mega-donor Jeff Yass, a hedge fund billionaire who holds a 15 percent stake in ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok. In 2020, Trump spearheaded efforts to ban TikTok in the United States, with concerns over national security.
The connection between Yass and TikTok did not escape the notice of Steve Bannon, former Trump campaign manager and White House adviser. Bannon suggested in his own social media post that Yass’ substantial financial influence may be behind Trump’s sudden change of heart toward TikTok.

The Smiths song “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want,” released in 1984, can be heard playing over the loudspeakers.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said that it was “really appalling” that former President Donald Trump would lobby against the passing of a bipartisan border security bill being negotiated in the Senate.
A $100 billion spending package that would offer to fund for Ukraine, Israel and the United States southern border ground to a halt after Republicans demanded more border security measures. A bipartisan group of senators have been working for weeks to reach a comprise bill.
Romney made his comment after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell cooled to the bill after Trump voiced his opposition.
“It was hard for me to see what Leader McConnell was suggesting,” Romney told CNN. “He seemed to be of two minds in the conversation.”
“But reading the reports this morning, and the fact that he hasn’t corrected them, suggests he is inclined to listen to what former President Trump wants, and former President Trump...

Jimmy Kimmel mocked the ridiculous right-wing conspiracy theories revolving around Taylor Swift and the Super Bowl during his monologue on Tuesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“There’s some serious crazy talk about Taylor Swift and Joe Biden going around right now,” Kimmel said. “You expect to hear this from a couple of nuts, and it disappears, but if anything, it’s picking up steam.”
The late-night host then read just a handful of the thousands of tweets — including one from former Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy — that the Super...

Jen Psaki has a message Monday night for conservatives endorsing the conspiracy theory that Taylor Swift is a Democratic plant ahead of the 2024 presidential election: “Shake it off!”
The MSNBC journalist opened an “Inside With Jen Psaki” segment on Swift’s history in politics by breaking down how the biggest pop star in the world went from being “notably and publicly apolitical” in 2018 to a figure that some conservatives, including Fox News’ Jesse Watters and former GOP presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy, propose to be a nefarious operative to get President Joe Biden to a second term.
Such theories come not only after her omnipresent popularity in pop culture and beyond with her Eras tour last year, but also in her support of LGBTQ Americans through the Equality Act, her endorsement of Biden in 2020 and her raising the alarm on the impact of overturning Roe vs. Wade in 2022.

Only in 2024 could a chart-topping country singer’s relationship with a star football player be viewed by major news outlets as a mission to control Americans.
In the U.S., Taylor Swift is nothing if not monoculture, regularly breaking records with her juggernaut “Eras Tour,” the theatrical version of the show and her records, all of which were ubiquitous in 2023. Yet her fame permeated a whole new segment of pop culture when she began dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and soon became a fixture at his games, creating a weekly online firestorm analyzing her outfits, their body language and the typical minutiae of being in a relationship.
Yet a bizarre branch of media coverage began in the weeks leading up to the Chiefs besting the Baltimore Ravens, earning a spot playing against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl: Some posited that Swift’s movement into...

Haven’t you heard?
Taylor Swift’s fake romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is all a Pentagon psy-op to inject the singer’s woke politics into the great and manly American institution of the NFL. The games have been secretly rigged to assure that the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl, where Swift will take the field during the halftime show to announce her endorsement of Joe Biden’s reelection campaign to 100 million-plus live viewers, thereby helping to steal the election from the real current president Donald Trump.
Or some shit.
But that’s actually what’s floating around out there on the social network hellscapes, nudged along by a few adults who really should know better (Vivek Ramaswamy).

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift hasn’t even endorsed President Joe Biden for reelection yet. Taylor Swift has shattered virtually every major record in the music industry, and as she lives her best life supporting her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, she’s also breaking the brains of right-wingers.
For months now, the digital fever swamps have been fuming over everything and anything Swift-related. Her popularity, the success of the Eras Tour, her relationship, her appearances at NFL games, and especially her politics. The Chiefs won the AFC championship on Sunday, punching the team’s (and potentially Swift’s) ticket to the Super Bowl in February.

Nikki Haley said last week that New Hampshire voters would have an opportunity to “correct” the results of the Iowa caucuses when they headed to the polls Tuesday. Whether they did depends on Haley’s definition of a course correction. Trump secured a solid — although not a total landslide — victory in the Granite State, further thinning the former South Carolina governor’s already-long odds of unseating the former president atop the Republican Party.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) criticized supporters of Donald Trump for not caring that the former president sexually assaulted columnist E. Jean Carroll and refusing to believe President Joe Biden was legitimately elected.
“I think a lot of people in this country are out of touch with reality and will accept anything Donald Trump tells them,” the former presidential candidate told CNN. “You had a jury that said that Donald Trump raped a woman. And that doesn’t seem to be moving the needle. There’s a lot of things about today’s electorate that I have a hard time understanding.”
Romney stated his belief that voters have expressed less faith in the nation’s institutions – such as the media – and that this lack of faith has helped Trump.

With just days before the New Hampshire primary, Saturday Night Live returned with James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump, this time talking to the press from the New York courtroom where he’s been attending one of a number of cases keyed up for 2024.
“2024 is going to be a very exciting year. I’m either going to jail, be president, or frankly, The Purge,” Johnson as Trump said, an apparent reference to the movie franchise where all crime is legal for a half-day out of the year.
In reality, Trump is expected to be in the courtroom Monday, the day before the Granite State primary, as he has been attending the second civil trial brought by E. Jean Carroll. A jury last year already found Trump liable of sexual assault of Carroll, and the latest trial is largely to determine damages.

Media-wise, the 2024 presidential election crosses the official starting line with debate season, and this cycle the contenders on the Republican side, including a multiple-indicted former Potus, are looking to beat Democrat Joe Biden and take over the White House. But first they have to take on one another.
For the candidates, debates are a way to score points against a rival, stand out from the field or define a campaign that’s heretofore been rudderless.

Front-runner Trump has opted out of all the debates so far. In August, he instead decided to hold forth with Tucker Carlson in a more friendly pre-taped interview. That debate drew 12.8 million viewers on Fox News. Fresh off a historic victory in the Iowa caucuses, former President Donald Trump traveled to New Hampshire and complained to his supporters that he had to leave the White House after losing the 2020 election.
Fans had lined up for hours outside in the snow for a chance to see the presumptive Republican nominee in person — excited over his Iowa win, appearing confident he will once again be president.
During his speech, Trump said it “was ridiculous that we had to leave, but we had to leave, we have to follow the laws of our land.

Update: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will finish a distant second place in the Iowa caucuses, networks projected late Monday night.
Former Un Ambassador Nikki Haley had hopes of a No. 2 finish as she eyed pulling off a surprise next week in New Hampshire.
Speaking with supporters, DeSantis said tonight’ results showed that he “got a ticket punched out of the Hawkeye state.”
“The media was against us. They were writing our obituary months ago. They even called the election before people even got a chance to vote,” DeSantis told supporters, referring to the networks’ early call of the caucuses for Donald Trump.
Despite her third place finish, Haley told supporters that “the pundits will analyze the results from every angle. We get that. But when you look at how we are doing in New Hampshire, in South Carolina, and beyond, I can safely say tonight Iowa made this Republican primary a two-person race.

It’s been a long time since virtually anyone in the elite of right-wing media, the national Republican Party, or conservative grassroots leadership has thought Ron DeSantis was going to win much of anything in this presidential campaign. Donald Trump decisively won the Iowa caucuses on Monday with his closest rivals languishing far behind, a crucial victory that reinforces the former president’s grip on his party at the outset of the GOP’s 2024 nomination fight.
It was not immediately clear who would emerge as the second-place finisher, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis or former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Caucus voters endured life-threatening cold and dangerous driving conditions to participate in meetings that unfolded in hundreds of schools, churches and community centers across the state.
The results are just the first in what will be a monthslong effort for Trump to secure the GOP nomination a third consecutive time. But the victory sends an unmistakable message to the Republican Party that the nomination is Trump’s to lose and crystalizes the challenge facing his GOP opponents.

The Iowa caucus on Monday will be like no other —- and that was apparent from the start, well before subzero weather raised doubts about turnout, stymied campaigns in the final sprint and left an army of reporters and consultants seeking the warm refuge of Des Moines hotel lobbies.

In the race for second place, rival Nikki Haley is looking for momentum for a potential victory next week in New Hampshire, and Ron DeSantis wants to defy pundits who have written him off.

Though Margot Robbie’s delightful tributes to Barbie on the red carpet have become a fun staple this season, seeing a possible homage to Barbie on a presidential debate stage this year was definitely a surprise. During the final, pivotal primary debate on Jan. 10, five days before the Republican Iowa Caucus, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley sported a dress that could be described as blush pink topped off with pearls. That wasn’t an accident and she could just ride the Barbie wave all the way to the White House.
