Huckabee played the triumphant song — best known as the theme for “Rocky III” — at a rally he held for Kim Davis, the controversial Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The art of the comic parody has been seriously democratized in the age of YouTube, but it's refreshing to realize the greatest parodies still find a way to rise to the top of the heap. Here are ten we loved this year. 1. "Saturday Night Live" finds that the universal language is "Hello" The weepy melodrama of Adele's "Hello" video warranted a parody, and this "SNL" short -- featuring an eye-popping, surreal moment from host Matthew McConaughey -- nailed it. By turning "Hello" into an orgiastic fever dream, it provided an unexpected angle on a pop culture phenomenon. 2. Amy Schumer renders a verdict with her "12 Angry Men" parody It seems bizarre that one of the most trenchant parodies of 2015 would involve the film work of Lee J. Cobb and Martin Balsam, but Amy Schumer's sexism-destroying take on "12 Angry Men" -- epic in its 20+ minute scope -- is staggering and scathing.

Looks like Mike Huckabee is about to experience the thrill of the legal fight — whether he wants to or not. Former Arkansas governor and current Gop presidential candidate Huckabee is being sued for using the Survivor song “Eye of the Tiger” during a September appearance in support of controversial county clerk Kim Davis. The suit, filed in federal court in Illinois on Wednesday by Rude Music — operated by founding Survivor member and “Eye of the Tiger” co-author Frank M. Mike Huckabee's rally for Kim Davis could end up costing him dearly because "Eye of the Tiger" was blaring during the event ... and the songwriter is so pissed he's filed a lawsuit. Huckabee helped organize a September rally for the county clerk who refused to grant marriage licenses to gay couples. She triumphantly walked onstage to the Survivor hit song and theme from "Rocky III.

Jennifer Lawrence is this month's Vogue cover star, and in a long interview that touches on everything from politics (Kim Davis makes her "embarrassed to be from Kentucky") to pizza (her order is pepperoni-and-jalapeño, with ranch on the side), Lawrence also goes deep on her creative partnership with David O. Russell, who has directed her in three films, including the upcoming Joy. The reason they work so well together, she says, is because they're both so intense: "Because I’m not so sensitive, we can really talk, like, man-to-man. Sometimes he accidentally refers to me as he or him." Weird! But Lawrence assures Vogue it's cool: "[H]e really respects and understands women, and by that I mean he doesn’t treat a woman any differently than he’ll treat a man. He would never tiptoe around a woman."Elsewhere in the profile, Lawrence clarifies exactly what that on-set "screaming match" with the director was about.

The Conversation is a feature at PopOptiq bringing together Drew Morton and Landon Palmer in a passionate debate about cinema new and old. For their eleventh piece, they discuss Mathieu Kassovitz’s gritty yet sleek portrait of life on the margins of Paris, La haine (1995).
Landon’S Take
There’s a moment within the first act of Mathieu Kassovitz’s La haine (1995) that finds the film’s central trio – Vinz (Vincent Cassel), Hubert (Hubert Koundé), and Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui), three young male descendants of immigrants living in the housing projects of outer Paris – confronted by a news crew. In the protests and riots following the brutalization of a friend, Abdel Ichaha (inspired by the real-life killing of Makome M’Bowole while in the custody of Parisian police in 1993), the news crew voyeuristically inquires into the opinions of those who very well may be the first group of “locals” their excursion encounters,...

Just last month, three presidential hopefuls were called out by musicians for using their songs without permission during their respective campaigns. Gop candidate Mike Huckabee was scolded for playing Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" at a rally in support of Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, who was released from jail on Tuesday. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz were chastised by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe after using the band's song "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" during a joint campaign stop. It's certainly not the first time a political figure has gotten in hot water for adopting campaign anthems without approval from the person who wrote or performed them. After the Internet seemingly took away Pope Francis' "cool card" once the world found out he met with Kim Davis, the Vatican is clearing something up: Just because he met with her doesn't mean he supports her views. The Vatican released a statement Friday that said the pontiff's encounter with her was part of a series of other meetings with countless other people and shouldn't be interpreted as an endorsement. "The pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis, and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects," the Rev. Pope Francis broke some hearts today. And not just by leaving us behind so soon after his big visit to the United States. The Vatican confirmed on Tuesday that his Holiness had a private meeting with Kentucky clerk Kim Davis while they were both in Washington D.C. Davis, as you probably remember, has been refusing to issue marriage license to same-sex couples because it goes against her religious beliefs. She's been in jail, she's had a rally where she walked out to "Eye of the Tiger" and she has been married three times, so the hypocrisy is strong with this one.
