Not a single week passes without Netflix’s surprising updates of the streaming’s top 10 chart, and there’s a very unexpected newcomer that has somehow attracted enough attention to now be sitting at the sixth position on the US chart.
According to the most recent data provided by FlixPatrol, Antonio Banderas’ biggest flop Security has suddenly become one of the most-watched movies globally as the film now holds the seventh place in the global chart and the sixth place in the US top 10.
Ironically, Security now came very close to Banderas’ other movie, the animated hit flick Shrek, which is now holding the fifth spot in the American chart.
What Is Security About?
Also starring Gabriella Wright and Ben Kingsley, Security is an action-packed movie that follows ex-special services veteran Eddie Deacon, portrayed by Banderas, who, while being stranded and with no job, takes up a security guard position at a local mall.

Every month is an interesting one on Netflix, where you can see forgotten Robert Downey Jr. dramas topping the charts alongside beloved animated ogres enjoying a full streaming renaissance. But there's a certain genre of streaming movie that always seems to do well regardless of whether it's actually any good or not: the middling actioner. You know exactly what I'm talking about: Films that no one heard about when they released but seem perfectly primed to scratch that specific itch we've all had when endlessly scrolling through the mounds of media on these platforms and just want to zone out to something mildly entertaining.
Earlier in May, Scott Adkins' UK action thriller "One More Shot" climbed the Netflix charts, while the month prior the service breathed new life into a forgotten Aaron Eckhart actioner. Was anyone eagerly awaiting the arrival of either? Probably not. Did they do well on Netflix?...

Antonio Banderas and his girlfriend, Nicole Kimpel, participated in a procession at San Juan Bautista church during Holy Week in Malaga, Spain, on Sunday.
The pair was seen in the crowd of worshippers at the celebration at the Maria Santisima de Lagrimas y Favores procession.
In Easter of last year, the pair attended an Easter procession at the same church. Banderas was seen sporting religious attire while worshipping at both events.
Banderas, known for his role in Puss in Boots, enjoys celebrating Catholic celebrations in his native Spain.
In 2011, Banderas spoke exclusively to uInterview about his work with iconic Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, known for his work on Oscar-winning films like 2002’s Talk To Her.

Long-time friends Tilda Swinton and Pedro Almodóvar are reuniting for the Oscar-winning director’s first English-language feature, “The Room Next Door.”
It’s hard to believe the Scottish high priestess of playing women unmoored from the people and places around her had never collaborated with the Spanish filmmaker before his proper English-language debut, “The Human Voice.” In that sharp shock of a 30-minute film, based on a Jean Cocteau play, Swinton starred as a woman going through a breakup over the telephone, surrounded by expressive Almodóvarian set design on a soundstage, and eventually a fire.
In “The Room Next Door,” also being released by Almodóvar’s perennial North American distributor Sony Pictures Classics, she’s a woman named Martha grappling with a strained relationship with her mother, and helped by a friend named Ingrid.
Swinton was embargoed from saying too much about the film, now in pre-production and shooting in Madrid next week,...

Fans are on cloud nine as the Fantastic Four will finally appear in the MCU. It comes after multiple failed tries to bring them to the big screen. Eventually, the film is scheduled to be released as part of Phase Six of the MCU.
Fantastic Four in Marvel Comics
The first movie of the Fantastic Four was made in 1994 but never came out. They finally hit the big screen in 2005. Then, in 2015, a reboot directed by Josh Trank was released, which didn’t do well with critics or at the box office. Now, they’re getting another shot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6 lineup.
Even before the Marvel announced the main cast for the Fantastic Four, Antonio Banderas was already among the actors in the lineup for the role of Glactus. But now, an Oscar-winning actor is said to be the frontrunner for the role.

The erotic thriller is back, and you'd have to be a prudish killjoy to lament its return.
The subgenre has its roots in the pre-code movies of the 1920s, and '30s, and films noir of the '40s and '50s, but the formula as it exists today was codified in 1980 with Paul Schrader's "American Gigolo" and, most vitally, Brian De Palma's "Dressed to Kill". And thanks to Karina Longworth's deep dive into best and worst of the subgenre via her indispensable podcast "You Must Remember This," younger viewers who weren't there for the '80s and '90s heyday are now revisiting the stylish highs and Skinemax lows of films in which people occasionally take a break from screwing to commit a string of murders (or investigate said murders with alarming aloofness).
As movies (especially studio productions) got progressively less sexy throughout the 2000s, the...

Antonio Banderas, Jean Reno, Harris Dickinson and Talk To Me breakout star Sophie Wilde join Nicole Kidman for erotic thriller Babygirl.
We’ve heard stories circulating for some time regarding A24’s Babygirl, having reported on the casting rumours as far back as March of this year.
Nicole Kidman’s name has always been attached to the project, and it seemed for a while like the film might get an exemption from SAG-AFTRA and shoot throughout the actors’ strike.
That didn’t happen, but the project now has an official production date and an intriguing cast that has also been announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, as appearing alongside Nicole Kidman in the production.

Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas have joined the cast of A24’s erotic thriller “Babygirl.”
“Bodies Bodies Bodies” filmmaker Halina Reijn is writing and directing the movie, which examines power dynamics and sexuality in the workplace. It tells the story of a powerful CEO (Kidman) who begins an illicit affair with a much younger, charismatic intern (Harris Dickinson).
Banderas is playing the husband of Kidman’s character, while Sophie Wilde (“Talk to Me”) is portraying the assistant who watches the rendezvous go down. Jean Reno (“The Big Blue”) rounds out the cast as a rival business executive. It’s scheduled to film this December in New York.
“Babygirl” marks the second collaboration between A24 and Reijn after her 2022 satirical slasher “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” an indie box office winner starring Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Rachel Sennott and Pete Davidson. A24 also acquired Reijn’s directorial debut, “Instinct.”

If Disney made Christian movies, they would look like this, with Mary in the mould of Beauty and the Beast’s Belle, Joseph giving Aladdin vibes and Banderas stealing every scene
If you feel the need to watch a faith film, you could do far, far worse than this one, a decently staged musical treatment of the nativity that feels like a Christian version of a live action Disney movie. Mary (Fiona Palomo) is a heroine in the mould of Belle from Beauty and the Beast or Jasmine from Aladdin: bookish and dreaming of a world in which she gets to make her own life decisions, instead of being married off to some guy called Joseph (Milo Manheim) whom she’s never met. Luckily, he turns out to be quite puckish and hunky (also in the Aladdin vein), while your comic relief type characters take the form of the Three Wise Men.

Christmas comes early this year, as “Journey to Bethlehem” puts words (and music) in the mouths of all who bore witness to Jesus’ birth. Some of those tunes — like “Silent Night” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” — will sound familiar enough, though most of the songs — like most of the script — represents a fresh interpretation of believers’ original miracle, courtesy of Adam Anders, making a competent, if undistinguished directorial debut with the least edgy retelling of the nativity story around (which is essentially what the faith-based audience has been asking for).

In “Expend4bles,” the action is more digitally propulsive than it was in “The Expendables” (2010), “The Expendables 2” (2012), or “The Expendables 3” (2014). Yet the preferred mode of killing is reassuringly primitive. In scene after scene, characters use knives to slit people’s throats, or they’ll sometimes jam a knife directly into the throat. “Expend4bles” is punctuated by those quick homicidal bursts of blood spatter. They’re effective, but because they feel a lot like the video-game slashings in a “John Wick” movie, the defining spirit of the “Expendables” series — the aging action heroes of the Reagan era all gathered together for a big dumb neo-’80s marathon of old-school combat destruction — now feels nearly as far away as the ’80s did when the first movie came out.

"The Mask of Zorro" is now 25 years old, though you might not know by watching it. Director Martin Campbell's 1998 film is a sexy, high-octane swashbuckler that, along with filmmaker Stephen Sommers' remake of "The Mummy," was likely responsible for the bisexual awakening of an entire generation in the late '90s. Leads Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones certainly light up the screen as newbie Zorro-in-training, Alejandro, and his predecessor's daughter, Elena, whether they're cutting a rug across the dance floor or mixing swordplay with flirtation. Then there's the breathtaking practical stunts and set pieces, which Campbell stages with the utmost elegance in collaboration with his cast and crew -- not least of all his longtime director of photography Phil Méheux, who imbues the film with a visual grandiosity befitting of a Western epic.
More than anything, it's the film's practical approach that keeps it feeling timeless. Campbell, who had...

It took a while, but Antonio Banderas finally earned his first Oscar nomination for “Pain and Glory.” Where does this deeply personal outing from frequent collaborator Pedro Almodovar fall in with the rest of his filmography? Take a tour through our photo gallery of Banderas’ 15 greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Banderas made his film debut over three decades ago in 1982, in Almodovar’s “Labyrinth of Passion.” The actor would become a frequent leading man for the Spanish auteur, later appearing in such films as “Matador” (1986), “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” (1988), “Tie Me Up! Steven Spielberg saw the CGI writing on the wall back in 1998.
The Amblin Entertainment producer, who financed that year’s “The Mask of Zorro,” told lead star Antonio Banderas on set that the age of practical effects was dwindling.

Banderas added, “And he said, ‘But things are going to change. They’re going to change and they’re going to change fast. And so you should be proud of this movie.’ And I am, probably even more now than at the time that I was doing it.”

“For me, it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another, and one can’t get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer, she is extraordinarily special. She will embody the essence of Mary Brown and yet make it utterly her own. However, I am, and will always be in love with Paddington’s world,” Hawkins said in a statement.
Returning cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin, as well as Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington and Imelda Staunton returning as the voice of Aunt Lucy.

All was not well with Sylvester Stallone’s career in the summer of 1995. Judge Dredd had come out, and, despite blockbuster business overseas, the film flopped in the all-important North American market. It would kick off a dry spell in Sly’s career, with many of his follow-up movies also doing poorly, to the point that in the early 2000s, he was stuck doing low-rent movies that went direct to video, such as Shade and Avenging Angelo. Of course, a major comeback for the Italian Stallion was just around the corner. Still, in this episode of Stallone Revisited, we look back at his follow-up to Judge Dredd, Assassins, which, on paper, should have been one of Sly’s classics but has gone on to become something of an obscure, underrated outing on his CV.

"Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" is one of the most inexplicable movies in recent memory. It's a sequel to a much-maligned movie that came out over a decade ago. It's subtitled "The Last Wish" and billed as the end of an era despite only being the second movie to star Antonio Banderas' swashbuckling kitty. Its star-studded cast includes the likes of not only Banderas, but also Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney, Harvey Guillén, and Salma Hayek Pinault.
The movie has also gained a tremendous amount of acclaim since its release in theaters in December, picking up an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film and earning glowing reviews, including one for IGN in which /Film writer Rafael Motamayor compared it favorably to The X-Men franchise high point "Logan," a comparison that caught on in a big way throughout the movie's theatrical run. /Film's own review, from Josh Spiegel,...

Since Puss in Boots’ first appearance in Shrek 2 in 2004, Antonio Banderas has been voicing the fairy tale character and growing alongside him. A sequel to the 2011 Puss in Boots film, DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek Forever After, when Puss in Boots (Banderas) is accidentally killed by a bell and discovers he is down to his ninth, and final, life. After a brush with a mysterious wolf who is determined to take his last life, Puss decides to live the rest of his life in hiding. However, he soon learns about a wishing star that could help them get his lives back. Banderas was excited to take Puss in a different direction for this film, taking him from a sidekick character to something more vulnerable and “human.”

“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” director Joel Crawford wants more respect for the brilliant minds behind animation. The amount of work that goes into bringing heartfelt stories like Crawford’s animated feature to life involves countless hours and teams of artists. However, the medium is constantly overlooked and undervalued by the industry, Crawford argues.
Crawford recalls pitching the story of “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” to British star Ray Winstone, hoping to convince the veteran actor to join the “Shrek” spin-off sequel as Papa Bear. While telling Winstone about how his character’s adopted daughter Goldilocks wishes for a human family, Winstone gave an honest reaction that made it into the film. “He was just in the moment,” Crawford tells Variety. “Completely engaged in the character, he just said, ‘some people just stick around until the porridge is gone.’ Ugh…and we put that in the script.”

While no major threat to Avatar: The Way of Water‘s manor at the top of the box office, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish still managed to pull in impressive numbers. While it would trail significantly behind James Cameron’s delayed sequel, for counter-programming, it fared very well in second place. Its domestic total would come out to just over 140M. The films have always been a success, so what’s in store for the future? You might say…an All-Star might come back. Although, Eddie Murphy would proudly like to return to the role of Donkey, Shrek, himself is currently an open option to return according to RadioTimes.

Kids will get a kick out of the sprightly and silly Puss in Boots: The Last Wish – but really, this one is for the millennials. Antonio Banderas’s pint-sized feline rogue, with his thigh-high boots and eyes as big as saucers, became an instant hit when he was introduced in 2004’s Shrek 2. But his follow-up appearances, in the later Shrek sequels and a 2011 spin-off, have played as either wrung out or purely cynical. The Last Wish offers something different and unexpected: Puss has grown up with his audience.
He is now, in exquisitely millennial fashion, suffering from feline burnout. Having already torn through eight of his nine lives (reminder to never go running with the bulls in Pamplona if you’re 15in tall), Puss must now face his mortality. And so, he slinks into his crisis era, complete with a sizable beard and an unshakeable malaise. His end-of-life stupor is interrupted,...

Yes, "Shrek" fans, Eddie Murphy would love to do "Shrek 5" - and he wants a Donkey movie, too. The "You People" star recently shared his thoughts on returning to the Shrek franchise in an interview with CTV's Etalk.
"I would do another Shrek in two seconds," he said, before adding the ball is in Dreamworks's court. "That's Dreamworks Animation. They have to want to do it. Dreamworks, if you all want to do it, just call me. I'm ready, I'm sitting and ready to do Donkey."
Murphy also got candid about wanting his fast-talking, wise-cracking character Donkey to finally get his own spinoff. "I love Donkey. You know, they did Puss in Boots movies. I was like, 'They should have did a Donkey movie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots.' I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain't as funny as the Donkey," Murphy joked.

With its predecessor being released in 2011, the spinoff series from the ‘Shrek’ franchise featuring the renowned bandit feline ‘Puss in Boots’ finally released its sequel and a possible end to the spinoff series. ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ centers around the carelessness of Puss’s lifestyle. Living on the edge and pushing his limits of mortality, Puss is met with death. The star presumably had one eye on the paycheque in this by-the-numbers thriller about a debt collector punching and shooting his way to bloody revenge
Antonio Banderas is a class act but there’s only so much class he can reasonably be expected to supply. Taking what was presumably an attractive paycheque, Banderas stars in a movie whose essential personality could only be appreciated if Blockbuster Video were to be brought back to life, just for one week, so this could be placed in the straight-to-video bin next to every till.
Veteran screenwriter W Peter Ilff (who co-wrote Point Break) has dug this one out of his desk drawer and Australian adman-turned-film-maker Richard Hughes directs. Banderas plays ’Cuda (short for Barracuda), a careworn Miami debt collector and ex-con, working for Estelle (Kate Bosworth), scary club owner and mob boss. He is estranged from the teen daughter who despises him and,...

© 2022 DreamWorks Animation. All Rights Reserved. In the Shrek series and in his own films, the Puss in Boots character looks like a cat, but he certainly doesn’t sound like a cat. In fact, he sounds suspiciously like actor Antonio Banderas. That makes sense, of course, since Banderas provides the character’s voice. But even Banderas points out that the character doesn’t sound anything like he looks. When he was working on developing the character’s sound, Banderas told us, he and the producers intentionally decided to use that mismatch for comedic effect. Post heart attack, Antonio Banderas is relishing “Being Alive.”
Banderas, currently starring in a production of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Company” in Madrid, is making the press rounds in support of his new film “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” and he’s discussing his 2017 heart attack in-depth for the first time.
“I realized that it probably was one of the best things that ever happened in my life because the things that were not important and I was worried every day about them, meaningless,” he told Page Six.
“I was like, why am I worried about that if I’m going to die?” he said. “I knew always [that I was going to die], but now I know. I’ve seen it right here.”
“Puss in Boots” also deals with mortality, as Banderas’ titular character discovers he’s down to one of his nine lives and embarks upon a quest to discover the Last Wish and restore all nine.

Not to be confused with the Clint Eastwood Enforcer (1976) or the Humphrey Bogart Enforcer (1951), this cheap and cheerful crime thriller stars Antonio Banderas as a strong-arm man who turns against his employers. As such, it’s entirely watchable and made with a degree of style, but it’s also predictably generic and occasionally laughable in its simplicity.
The Enforcer opens with one of those prologue sequences that immediately gives away the ending, as Banderas’ Cuda (short for Barracuda) reflects on what brought him to his current blood-soaked state. The rest of the story is then told in flashback, with Cuda taking new enforcer Stray under his wing, while working for slinky Miami mob boss Estelle.

After the success of the original “Puss in Boots” movie, Antonio Banderas was pretty sure there would be a sequel to the “Shrek” franchise spin-off. In fact, why wouldn’t there be? The first installment earned positive reviews and grossed 550 million globally off just a 130 million production budget. And Banderas, who voices the swashbuckling feline, was asked about a new movie for years. But the project was delayed, primarily because NBCUniversal acquired DreamWorks Animation in 2016.
