Were the world right, then in 1993, Addams Family Values would have got both the rich acclaim and enormous box office it merited. A deliciously playful sequel, it’s 94 minutes of tightly put together comedy, with a bunch of performers that come close to defining ‘perfectly cast’. Christina Ricci, clinging to a fence as she’s threatened with the Harmony Hut, remains a comedy highlight of 1990s cinema.
But the film didn’t really hit. As much as it was liked, its box office was less than half of the original. It was released the week before Mrs Doubtfire in the Us, and it was the latter that become the widely seen family comedy of Christmas 1993. Addams Family Values would do okay at best, but...

Season 1 of Netflix’s “Mindhunter” begins and ends with an confounding pair of bookends: The series’ opening sequence closes with a hostage-taker shooting himself in the head, while the ending view we get of Agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) shows him in a cold sweat on the floor of a prison hospital. Among the many questions of human behavior the show addresses in its opening batch of episodes, maybe the biggest is how one man can be so calm in the wake of watching a horrific suicide and be so affected by a single hug.
The answer might lie in the season-long effort to reframe the way audiences think about violence on a crime show. Apart from that grisly opening, we don’t actually see any on-screen killings, only descriptions filtered through a photograph or someone’s firsthand account. As Ford, Bill Tanch (Holt McCallany), and Wendy Carr (Anna Torv...

One exciting moment from the all-round thrilling finale of Westworld‘s debut season occurred when the action spilled out into a neighboring park, revealing that the Delos Corporation were running another robot-filled environment called Samuraiworld. We didn’t see much of this other park, but it opened up a lot of doors for the future of the show. After all, if there was a Westworld and a Samuraiworld, what other theme parks could there be?
If you go back to the original 1973 movie that the hit HBO series is based on, you might find the answer. In the film from Jurassic Park‘s Michael Crichton (that man really hated theme parks, didn’t he?), Romanworld and Medievalworld are also featured, and these two parks might just be appearing in Westworld season 2.

How did you first get into acting?
I wanted to do musical theatre, I thought that was the only path for me, so at 17 years old I was in my first year of sixth form and I found this college that I wanted to go to called Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and it was a degree course. I was one of the eldest in my year so I would have only been 17, and then three weeks in I would have been 18. I thought why not just go for it. I am just going to tell them the truth, this is my age, but can I come in.

Fans were surprised at the beginning of the second season of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” when the show’s peppy theme song switched style, look and lyrics.
Naturally, speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, series co-creators Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna opened up their panel by talking about the first thing audiences will see when the show returns in the fall.
Brosh McKenna explained that “Detention” director Joseph Kahn would be directing the new Season 3 credits sequence. Kahn is also on board to direct Season 3’s fourth episode.
“I would say the new theme song is the most talked-about songwriting process we’ve ever done,” Bloom said.
Apart from that opening, the two co-creators, along with cast members Pete Gardner, Donna Lynne Champlin, Vella Lovell, Gabrielle Ruiz, and David Hull, talked about what fans can expect from Season 3.

BBC America drops Christmas Special teaser in Hall H during Peter Capaldi farewell.
Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat said journalists that wrote stories about a Jodie Whittaker backlash should “shut the hell up”, according to reports.
Speaking at the BBC America Doctor Who panel in Hall H on Sunday, Moffat said the fan community had expressed strong approval on social media after it was announced Whittaker will become the first female Time Lord when Capaldi regenerates into the 13th iteration.
Moffat denied there had been any backlash and said people wanted to create a problem when there was none, adding they should “shut the hell up”.
Apart from that, Capaldi was the subject of a heartwarming session that included a look back at his work since he took on the role in 2013.

We’re a bit over 13 months away from the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, the follow-up to the original Ant-Man, which hit theaters back in 2015. The movie, while pretty formulaic, was still enjoyable enough, and audiences responded helping the film break $500 million at the box office. While not a huge smash hit, it more than made up its production costs, and proved that audiences would be okay with a more lighthearted and smaller scale Earth-based venture.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is also notable because it will be the first Marvel Studios film to have a female superhero name in the title, beating out Captain Marvel by a solid year. In the first film, we saw the superhero the Wasp in flashbacks, but by the time the credits rolled, it was clear that Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne was going to don the wings in their next appearance.

Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron go chest to chest in a limp big-screen update of the 90s TV show that doesn’t have the wit or stamina to stay afloat
Just as nobody ever bought a Pirelli calendar simply to find out the date, the world didn’t tune into Baywatch for over a decade purely for the lifeguarding instruction. Let’s face it: it was all about the fantasy American lifestyle of sun, sea and semi-naked flesh jiggling along beaches in slow-mo. Apart from that, and those little red floaty things they carried around, can anyone honestly remember anything else about Baywatch?

And this line was appealing enough for me to wait for this movie to Get Out!
Let me clear you, this film not what many would consider "true genre horror", it's definitely a scary thriller.
Black photographer Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) and his white girlfriend Rose Armitage (Allison Williams) visit Rose's parents for the weekend, where they meet Chris for the very first time. Staggered by their behavior from the very off, Chris begins to think all is not right in the home of Dean (Bradley Whitford) and Missy Armitage (Catherine Keener).

Things aren’t so hot on the anime/manga adaptation front. Fans of the medium have been hungry to see some their favorite stories hit western shores in the live-action form, and for all intents and purposes, there has only been one real success. That comes in the form of Edge of Tomorrow, a film based on a Japanese light novel that didn’t do so hot in theater, but was praised by critics, and went on to garner enough of a following to warrant sequel discussions. Apart from that, films like Speed Racer and Dragonball: Evolution have either bombed at the box office or failed on every possible level as a piece of entertainment.
Ghost in the Shell seems destined to fall in with the majority of anime adaptations. Despite Scarlett Johansson’s name being attached to the film, it looks like you can add another check mark in...

It’s always interesting to see the evolution of a project over the course of a handful of years. If you’ll recall, Inhumans was a project that was introduced to moviegoing audiences back with the rest of Marvel Studios’ Phase 3 slate. Some time later, the idea of Inhumans would be peppered into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., seeming to allude to an upcoming event that would bring together the Marvel movies and Marvel TV shows. Sadly, nothing came of it, and in the years that followed, Marvel Studios and Marvel Television splintered off in different directions. Inhumans disappeared from the Marvel Studios slate, and soon after, it was confirmed to be a TV show for ABC.
However, this wasn’t your average ordinary TV show. Marvel has always been about upping the stakes and spectacle of their properties, and they looked to be doing with with Inhumans. Yes, the show would run on ABC,...

In 2015, Austin-based Rooster Teeth expanded into Los Angeles with the launch of Funhaus, a channel that brought over most of its hosts from Machinima's old Inside Gaming crew. Two years later, Funhaus has flourished, picking up a dedicated following thanks to a combination of gameplay, humor, nonsense, and even scripted content, such as the new animated series Sex Swing. The members of the Funhaus gang -- (from left to right above) James Willems, Elyse Willems, Bruce Greene, Lawrence Sonntag, Matt Peake, and Adam Kovic -- now count more than a million subscribers on their channel, and we caught up with Greene and Kovic to hear some of their thoughts.

With Eduardo Casanova‘s visually and conceptually startling debut Skins (aka Pieles) , the question of how John Waters and Pedro Almodóvar’s love child would fare as a filmmaker might just have been answered (high praise in queer film terms, of course). Fierce style, check. Subversive sexuality, check. Gross-out humor, check. Blown-up melodrama, check. Skins is a pointedly shrill, singularly provocative exposé on our relationships to our bodies that will scar some minds, offend many sensibilities, and exhilarate all the rest of us. We spoke with the director about his debut while at Berlinale and one can read the conversation below.
How did you find your way into filmmaking?
I started out as an actor when I was 12 and began making my own shorts at 17, so I practically grew up in the world of cinema. In a way this also relates to Skins since the film came from a need to be understood.

Kiefer Sutherland stars in the hugely entertaining thriller Designated Survivor. Here's a spoiler-free look at why you should give it a try.
Heard of the show Designated Survivor? It might just quench your thirst (whether you knew you had it or not) for a new thriller to follow.
The basics are this. Straight-talking, politically unambitious, and honest, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkland (played by Kiefer Sutherland), finds himself on the brink of being fired. As such, he is appointed the 'Designated Survivor' for the State of the Union Address. This basically involves being locked in a safe-room far away, whilst the rest of the government convenes on Capitol Hill.
Fortunately for him, this is the best-timed firing in history, and as a result of an attack, he is the only member of the government to survive. Therefore, being next in the line of succession he becomes,...

I know exactly what you’re thinking. Why do we need another Robin Hood movie? We’re right there with you. Along with the likes of Peter Pan, Robin Hood seems to be one of the most retread stories known to man. You hate sequels, remakes, and reboots? Most of them don’t hold a candle to the number of Robin Hood stories we’ve gotten. Maybe King Arthur stories slightly edges out Robin Hood, but it’d be a close competition. Well, regardless of what we all want, Robin Hood: Origins is happening, and while we can’t necessarily agree with the studio in bringing this one to life, there’s still a possibility that they can do something cool with it.
If you were unaware that this film was even happening, all we can tell you so far is that Kingsman star Taron Egerton plays the titular Robin Hood,...

Not a lot of mystery to this weekend: It belongs to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (Disney). Still, a couple of questions remain: Will it be the biggest first-weekend number of the year? And: Will the gross be 10 times bigger than whatever’s in second place?
Lowball estimates for this intergalactic prequel/spinoff/adjunct/special event have it opening at around $150 million; that’s almost $100 million less than “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” exactly one year ago. Without the excitement of a first franchise episode in a decade, falloff is inevitable.
Read More: Arthouse Audit: ‘La La Land’ Box Office is Stunning
And, some context: Whatever number “Rogue One” accomplishes, December doesn’t historically lend itself to high-end openings. Apart from “The Force Awakens,” no other December release had even grossed as much as $100 million (“Lord of the Rings: Return of the King,” released in 2003, managed $103 million in 2016 adjusted numbers.

It's the penultimate episode of Close To The Enemy, and Poliakoff has finally begun to pull together the disparate strands of this post-World War II drama. But it's not Captain Callum Ferguson (Jim Sturgess), ostensibly our hero, who is the glue that sticks it all together but his brother Victor. Freddie Highmore gives us a miserable, desperate, and confused Victor, struggling to understand how everyone else could be moving on with their lives when his has stopped.
What I really liked about Victor's increasingly unstable behaviour was how it veered from lashing out at others to emotionally connecting with them, finding an honesty that polite society tries its best to avoid.

This is a big week for fans of the CW DC shows. Last night began the epic four-episode crossover that will span Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. If you thought last year’s crossover was crazy — which was the crossover that spawned Legends of Tomorrow — then goodness knows what’ll be in store for us this week with all four shows now in the mix. For those Supergirl fans who were worried that the main plot of the show would be put on hold this week as a result, you can rest easy, we only got a taste of this crossover at the very tail end of the show, and all the stuff prior to that was one giant wrap-up to the conflict that’s been impending since the start of the new season.

Shot in just 8 days in true guerrilla fashion, with Joko Anwar placing his actors in neighborhoods in Jakarta that neither police nor army would accompany them, “A Copy of my Mind” proves that talent, planning and expertise do not need time in order to achieve a great outcome. Financed by the S. Korean powerhouse Cj Entertainment, the film is the first part of a trilogy.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are working out their divorce terms.
The 52-year-old actor filed a response on Friday to his estranged wife's divorce petition, as they try to find a way forward with their family after two years of marriage.
Here is everything we know about where the shocking split stands.
The filings are pretty similar... except when it comes to custody.
Watch: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Sell New Orleans Home
In Pitt's response, the World War Z star requested both joint legal and physical custody of the former couple's six children -- 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and 8-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne.
The request diverges from the 41-year-old actress' October filing asking for sole physical custody of the children.
Apart from that notable exception, court documents obtained by Et show that Pitt's filing is mostly similar to Jolie's initial filing.

What Netflix’s Stranger Things is to 80s sci-fi horror, Amazon’s Red Oaks is to 80s coming-of-age romantic comedy. Without slipping into parody, both are a continuation of a familiar style of storytelling featuring characters and themes we know and love. If Stranger Things takes its cues from Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter, Red Oaks has made itself the inheritor of John Hughes, Rob Reiner and Amy Heckerling. (In a neat connection, Heckerling has directed multiple episodes of Red Oaks, which also stars Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Dirty Dancing’s Jennifer Grey, stitching it firmly into that continuity.)

Yes, it's frequently been claimed that we currently live in the Golden Age of Superheroes, as well as the Golden Age of TV, but when you stop to think about it, we also live in an approaching Golden Age of Stephen King, and a Golden Age of '80s Entertainment. Okay, maybe that's going overboard a bit, but for those kids who grew up watching horror and reading Stephen King novels, they're finally getting a whole lot of love.
Currently, the remake of The Stand appears to be on ice, but The Dark Tower is in production along with an adaptation of the 1986 novel, It. Like with practically every production based on a Stephen King novel, there's been a whole lot of stop-and-go with It. Not so long ago, the film was considered to be dead, and director Cary Fukunaga, who was set to helm the film, dropped out. Not too long after,...

The two highly anticipated films, Rustom and Mohenjo Daro, are ready for the clash this weekend. On one hand, Rustom is based on a real-life story whereas Mohenjo Daro is a period drama. Now, we have got the confirmation that Pakistan censor board has passed both the films and given them Universal certificate. Confirming the news, Pakistan Cbfc chairman Mobashir Hasan said that Rustom was passed by a majority of their members with excisions and was rated Universal. In case of Mohenjo Daro, Mobashir Hasan explained that when it came to movies with historical topics, their board had a provision to bring in co-opt members apart from the usual five-member panel. So, they brought in Syed Waqar Ali Shah, who is the chairperson of the history department at Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, along with Mashood Mirza from the department of archaeology and museums. After watching the film, the panel didn't have...

Kind of a peculiar mixture, “Sori” combines sci-fi, drama, action, comedy and even a war among the secret services of S. Korea and the Us, in order to present messages regarding grief, guilt, acceptance and the relationships between parents and their children.
Kim Hae-gwan has lost his daughter during a fire in the train station ten years ago, although her body was never found. This fact has not permitted him to let go, as he is still searching for her, despite his wife’s efforts to convince him to accept the truth. |His search leads him to a remote island, where he discovers a kind of a robot in a beach at night, which seems to functional.

The script follows the usual shonen path. A boy named Shoyo Hinata, who happens to be very short, wants to become a great volleyball player, like his idol, another short guy, who has made a career in professional volley, nicknamed “Little Giant.” To pursue his dream, he enrolls in Karasuno Highschool, which Little Giant also attended. In 1961, the year after the media milestone that was the Nixon-Kennedy presidential debates, historian Daniel Boorstin coined the term “pseudo-event,” which he defined as an event that takes place for the sole purpose of being covered by the media.
Given Trump’s penchant for showmanship, there was every reason to believe this year’s Republican National Convention would be, in Trump-speak, the greatest pseudo-event of all time. There would be the token delegate count officially certifying his nomination, with the honor of New York, his home state, casting the deciding vote. Apart from that, it would be a four-day pageant with each prime-time broadcast tailored to a theme inspired by Trump’s red-capped campaign slogan: Make America Safe Again, Work Again, One Again, etc.
Trump’s supporters carried the themes. There was Chris Christie’s relentless attack on Hillary Clinton, heightened by the audience’s prompted chants of “Guilty! Guilty!

On Feed the Beast Season 1 Episode 5, there are only six days until Thirio is set to open – and no one has bothered to secure a liquor license. However, this is the least of everyone's problems.
In addition to the lack of liquor license – which would deprive Thirio of a substantial source of income via the sale of wine – it is also Rie's birthday for the first time since her death, and everyone is grieving.
Watch Feed the Beast Season 1 Episode 5 Online
Not only that, one character gets a pretty bad leukemia prognosis, while another finds out he's going to be a father. Oh, and there's a severed head in someone's refrigerator. Hope that's not on the menu at Thirio.
Just when I thought Feed the Beast was finally starting to find its footing to become an engaging show, it went and delivered its worst episode yet. There's just too much going on,...

One of the fun things about every comic book movie are the suit changes. With practically every single iteration of every single superhero flick, we are pretty much guaranteed to see a new iteration of their suits. This has been true for heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Superman (to a lesser extent), and of course, Batman. With pretty much every film, he's evolved the suit, and with the Dark Knight Trilogy, director Christopher Nolan even gave very pragmatic reasons for the changes -- such as giving Bruce the ability to move quicker.
With Batman v Superman, we got to see two different Batman suits -- one standard suit, and one armored suit that he used to take on Superman in the titular fight. But what does the future hold for Justice League? Has Batman already ironed out all the kinks in his Bat Suit the point where he won't need any further variations?...

WrestleMania Xxvii was a momentous evening for a single reason – after seven years, The Rock was finally -Finally – back in WWE. On February 14, 2011, “The Great One” made his long-awaited return to the company, announcing that he was going to be guest hosting the event.
In the weeks that followed, WWE’s live gates jumped up as fans anticipated the next appearance of The Rock.

Much has been said about Jon Bernthal's Punisher for the upcoming season of Daredevil. As of right now, however, there really hasn't been a lot about Elektra, who Matt Murdock has a very fiery relationship with in the comics. We know that the character will be in the season, that she's being played by Élodie Yung, and we've even seen a brief tease of her in the last trailer. Apart from that, however, all the focus seems to have been squarely on the Daredevil/Punisher conflict.
We may be seeing the end of that pattern with the release of this short 15-second clip, wherein, we see Elektra kicking some ass on a rooftop, wielding her trademark sais.
Check out the clip below!
Not only is this the first time that we've seen Elektra in action, but this is the first time we've seen her vigilante outfit. Like Daredevil for most of last season,...

What have we just witnessed? What have we actually just watched? The Walking Dead has exploded back onto our screens with an eye-popping (too soon?) mid-season premiere and talking points galore.
If anybody was wondering whether the show would follow Robert Kirkman’s comic book storyline, they were answered with a grisly ‘yes’, as Carl took a bullet to the face within 20 minutes of the show’s comeback.
Many fans have purposefully stayed away from delving into the comics so that they can fully appreciate the TV show, and while Carl’s situation is one of the only moments they knew was coming, that entire scene ignited in a split-second. That was The Walking Dead at its cruelest, at its finest.

But while we eagerly wait for Angry Birds: The Movie, let’s talk about Captain America: Civil War.
It’s the first Marvel film of 2016, and the one tasked with kicking off Phase 3, all of which is building to the huge two-part Infinity War. It’s also got some competition on its hands, coming out after Batman V Superman, and not long before X-Men: Apocalypse. With all that in mind, Marvel have gone very big for this one, rolling out the majority of their biggest players in what’s both a superhero team-up and face-off. Sure, there will be villains, but the selling point of this is hero vs hero, with a stacked undercard headlined...

In a series of text correspondences published by the Mexican newspaper Milenio between El Chapo, his lawyers, and Kate del Castillo, the Mexican actress who facilitated the meeting with Sean Penn, El Chapo was eager to meet del Castillo, but didn't know who this Sean Penn character was.Nicknamed "Papá," El Chapo asks, "What’s this actor called?” prompting the following exchange ("M" is the lawyer Andrés Granado), translated by The Guardian: M: Sean Penn. The one who made the movie 21 Grams.Papá: 21 Grams. What year was that made?M: I’m checking so I can give you the exact date.Papá: Ok.M: 21 grams came out in 2003. Apart from that he’s a political activist.

In a world ravaged by a rabies virus that turns people into hungry cannibals, Alice, a pregnant survivor, along with two other men, struggles to reach an island unaffected by the plague. Meanwhile, a dangerous man is on the trail of a mysterious girl, and Alice soon discovers that zombies are not the only threat…
Anger of the Dead is a hard-hitting political thriller that… oh wait sorry, wrong film. Anger of the Dead is (surprise, surprise) a zombie film! I’m sure you’ve already guessed that by now as it tends to be the case of any film with ‘of the dead’ in the title.
Anger of the Dead is another one of those zombie films populated by people who have never seen a zombie film,...

On a February set visit to Bristol, a group of journalists chatted to Martin Freeman about Sherlock’s Victorian-set Christmas Special…
Read the Sherlock special set visit round-table interview with Benedict Cumberbatch, here.
Filming on Sherlock’s first Christmas Special, The Abominable Bride, took place at the beginning of this year. Back then, very little was known about the episode, and the BBC was naturally keen to keep it that way.
Prior to visiting the Bristol set in February, we'd been told that the Special was set in the Victorian era, and that was more or less where the certainties ended. The rest was a hotchpotch of rumour, deduction and inference.
If the following cast and creators round-table interviews seem to have a hint of courtroom interrogation or parlour game about them, then, that air of secrecy explains it. Regardless of the constraints on what could and couldn’t be confirmed,...

It seems like only yesterday that Disney acquired the rights to Lucasfilm, and we're already getting a new movie in the long-awaited franchise return...
Nah, who am I kidding? It's been three long years since Disney's triumphant announcement, and December 18th couldn't get here soon enough. Fans have been waiting a long time for this moment, but if director J.J. Abrams and company are able to deliver on everything they've promised, then us fans are in for a real treat. But in true Disney fashion, eyes are already headed toward the future, beyond "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
In a recent interview with Wired, J.J. Abrams confirmed that "Star Wars Episode VIII" director Rian Johnson had finished the script for the next entry in the main "Star Wars" saga, and also delved into what bits of information the latter filmmaker was given regarding "The Force Awakens" to ensure that "VIII" fell in line.
