In 1988, Bruce Willis committed a most grievous offense against entertainment journalists: he proved them wrong. Really wrong. Laughably wrong.
The newly minted star of ABC's "Moonlighting" drew the ire of just about everyone in Hollywood when 20th Century Fox paid him a whopping $5 million to star in the action film "Die Hard." This rankled rival studio executives, who only shelled out that kind of cash for long-established leading men like Warren Beatty and Robert Redford. While Willis might've been a minor media sensation due to "Moonlighting," with his surprise Billboard smash "The Return of Bruno" and his omnipresent Bartles and Jaymes wine cooler commercials, he had yet to prove himself worthy of a $5 million big-screen payday.
Before "Die Hard," Willis had scored a solid theatrical hit with Blake Edwards' dismally unfunny "Blind Date." This was the extent of his motion picture oeuvre when Fox declared him a massive marquee name.

The Jennifer Hudson Show is following The Drew Barrymore Show and The Talk and delaying its Season 2 premiere amid the ongoing writers’ and actor’s strikes. This comes after Barrymore backtracked on bringing her daytime talk show back last week following intense criticism from fans and the celebrity world. CBS’ The Talk, which was scheduled to return today, September 18, also announced yesterday that it was “pausing its season premiere.” Hudson’s show was also scheduled to return on Monday, September 18, but is now on pause for the foreseeable future. This has set off panic buttons among fans of other shows, including The View, Jeopardy!, and Wheel of Fortune, fearing their favorite programs could suddenly disappear during the strikes. The View, which broadcasts live, appears to be safe for now, at least according to the show’s co-host, Whoopi Goldberg. At the top of an episode back in July, the Academy...

Celebrating television might feel like a wasted effort right now, especially since 11,500 writers and 160,000 actors are walking the picket lines for the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. But it would be unfair to overlook the extraordinary work of so many Emmy-worthy creatives, even if the ongoing dispute between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers prevents writers and actors from talking about the very series that got them a ticket to the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in the first place. Sadly, everyone will have to wait until January 2024 to see who will accept their just rewards. But this year’s Contenders Television: The Nominees virtual livestream event that kicks off Saturday at 10 a.m. Pt will certainly make it worth the wait.

The Story: Eddie Hawkins (Bruce Willis) aka the Hudson Hawk is a master cat burglar recently released from prison after a long stretch. Determined to go straight, he’s nonetheless blackmailed by the psychotic Darwin (Richard E. Grant) and Minerva Mayflower (Sandra Bernhard) to undertake a series of jobs in Rome involving the components of a machine designed by Leonardo da Vinci that converts lead into gold.
The Players: Starring: Bruce Willis, Andie MacDowell, Danny Aiello, James Coburn, Richard E. Grant and Sandra Bernhard. Directed by Michael Lehman.
The History: With Bruce Willis’s sad health situation forcing him into retirement, it’s worth digging into his filmography to examine some of his less-seen gems. For me, one of the big ones is Hudson Hawk. In 1991, Bruce Willis was arguably at the peak of his fame. “Moonlighting” was done and Die Hard had made him into one of the biggest action stars in town,...

Kelly Clarkson’s skillful covers of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” and Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees,” from last year’s Kellyoke EP, hinted at what it might sound like if the singer were to reprise the more rock-oriented sound of her under-appreciated 2007 album My December. Indeed, “Skip This Part,” the opening track from her 10th studio album, Chemistry, takes a page straight from Eilish’s song, with understated verses followed by a doo-wop-inflected hook and a climactic, guitar-driven coda in which Clarkson exorcises her angst: “I feel every break as I realize my fate/I succumb to the taste of betrayal/I try numbing the pain with my sweet mary jane/But I know this escape isn’t stable.”
For the most part, though, Chemistry relies on a familiar mixture of elements from Clarkson’s two previous albums, the pop-centric Piece by Piece and the classic soul-inspired Meaning of Life.

When people think of American Idol, they often think of names like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Katharine McPhee, and others. Interestingly, not all of these well-known contestants actually won the competition. For some, the exposure from Idol was enough to skyrocket their careers even higher than those of the people who took home the grand prize. Here are eight American Idol contestants who became more successful than the winners of their seasons.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, fresh off her big Emmy win for Abbot Elementary, joined Jennifer Hudson on the Jennifer Hudson Show for a bit of nostalgia as she reflected on her turn in the original 1981 Broadway production of Dreamgirls.
Hudson, of course, is more than familiar with the show, having starred in the 2006 film adaptation and winning a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her work. Still, Hudson was reverent as she stood alongside Ralph, both draped in feather boas, and dutifully followed the latter’s lead as Ralph reiterated the proper way to step,...

More action figures of Disney’s “Gargoyles” are on the way from Neca, with the company revealing their “Ultimate” edition figure of the character known as Broadway this week.
The 7″ scale Ultimate Broadway figure joins previously released/announced characters from the animated series including Goliath, Demona, Thailog, Hudson, Lexington and Brooklyn.
Neca previews, “Broadway is many things: optimist, food enthusiast, and cinephile. This Ultimate Broadway figure is fully articulated, and comes with interchangeable heads, interchangeable hands, axe and mace that combine into a larger weapon, meat, popcorn, and more. Comes in display-friendly window box packaging with opening front flap.”
The 90s animated series was produced by Walt Disney Television and centered on literal stone gargoyles that come to life and transform into protectors of NYC at night. Vangelis, whose instantly recognizable musical theme for 1981’s Chariots of Fire won an Oscar and became a sort of aural shorthand for tales of endurance and triumph, died May 17, according to his representatives. He was 79.
His assistant Lefteris Zermas has confirmed the death but did not provide a specific cause, saying only that Vangelis died in a hospital in France. Greek newspaper Ot is reporting that Vangelis was being treated for Covid-19.
Born Evangelos Odessey Papathanassiou in Greece, the composer and musician known worldwide simply as Vangelis, combined orchestral music, electronic synth sounds, jazz and ambient to create a then-new sound for the film that seemed to provide the musical equivalent of the ocean waves that crashed as the story’s Olympic runners sprinted down the beach. (Watch the video below.)
Vangelis would go on to compose scores for Blade Runner (1982), Missing (1982), Antarctica (1983), The Bounty (1984), 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992) and...

Jennifer Hudson is coming to daytime this fall with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Fox Television Stations.
While the new one-hour talker is not technically Warner Bros. TV’s replacement for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which is coming to an end this year, Hudson’s show is positioned to be the studio’s new flagship daytime talk show once DeGeneres has said her final goodbye after a 19-season run.
As Variety first reported in November, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” also comes from “Ellen” production company Telepictures. “Ellen” executive producers Andy Lassner and Mary Connelly served as showrunners on Hudson’s test show, which was shot last fall on DeGeneres’ stage. The show has been shopped around to station groups since, with Fox TV Stations emerging as the winner.

Has Donald Trump blown it? Major actors have always coveted playing the role of an empathetic U.S. president, but after Trump’s four years will anyone want that gig?
In years past Michael Douglas, Daniel Day-Lewis, Harrison Ford and even Henry Fonda have depicted admirable presidents. Even Kevin Spacey was likable as Richard Nixon when Elvis came to visit him (in 2016’s Elvis & Nixon).
To be sure, they all had their idiosyncrasies. In Dave (1993), Kevin Kline wasn’t careful enough about who was chosen to “double” him, and Douglas in The American President (1995) should have been wary about dating that lobbyist, even though she was Annette Bening. But they were good guys at heart.
None of those characters would have considered denying election results, or ignoring a pandemic, or snubbing his successor’s inauguration. There were boundaries, even in movies, about political mischief.
In Bulworth (1998), Warren Beatty briefly impersonated...

“I just love this idea of the authentic sort of grit of what it’s like to be a dad, to be a son, to be a husband, to be all of these things – and I would love, and I hope, that we can get real answers and real perspectives from these mega athletes and actors that we have on the show,” said Hudson.
No topic will be off-limits for the podcast, as Buck and Hudson welcome a lineup...

"Hudson River Massacre” is a 1965 Italian Western originally titled “I tre del Colorado” and also released as “Rebels in Canada,” “Revolt in Canada,” and “Canadian Wilderness.” In the film, the Hudson’s Bay Company, an English corporation, is tightening its monopoly on the lucrative fur-trading business in western Canada in the late 1800s by driving independent French-Canadian trappers out of business. The French-Canadians counter with an uprising led by Leo Limoux, played by Franco Fantasia, a Spaghetti Western regular with a familiar face if not a familiar name. Trapper Victor DeFrois (George Martin) resists joining the rebels until his brother is executed for robbery and murder on charges fabricated by the ruthless Hudson’s Bay trading-post manager, Sullivan. When that happens, Victor throws in with the resistance. At Limoux’s direction, the young trapper kidnaps Sullivan’s sister Anne and holds her at a remote cabin for ransom.

The British royal family has been unusually generous to Olivia Colman in providing roles. Playing the 18th century's Queen Anne in 2018's The Favourite brought Colman, 45, an Oscar for best actress. And she's the only actor to have played both Queen Elizabeth II, which she's doing now on Netflix's The Crown, and that royal's mother, Queen Elizabeth, which she did in 2012's Hyde Park on Hudson.
Prior to these film roles, Colman was probably best known in the U.K. for appearing on sitcoms. She gained attention in 2003 as the Sophie Chapman character ...
