Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot stands out as one of the most anticipated projects in development. Not only will it revitalize the original movie series, but it will also bring Marvel’s first family into the MCU fold.
Official details about the film are scarce, with only the core cast confirmed. However, reactions to this cast have been widely varied. To navigate through the confirmed and rumored information and provide clarity, we’ve compiled this guide.
The setting of ‘The Fantastic Four’ will be an alternate reality
Rumors and artwork suggest that ‘Fantastic Four’ will unfold in an alternate retro-futuristic reality reminiscent of the 1960s. The team will already possess their powers and function as an established unit from the movie’s outset. It’s speculated that their initial adversary will be Mole Man.
Expectations are high for the inclusion of Franklin Richards and Valeria Richards in the film.

The upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot is easily one of the most exciting projects currently in development at Marvel Studios. The movie will not only reboot the original series of movies but also introduce Marvel’s first family to the MCU.
Not much is known about the movie through official means, except for the core cast, and this core cast has been met with vastly polarizing reactions. This is why we decided to put together this guide, to address both confirmed and rumored stuff and make sense of things.
‘The Fantastic Four’ will take place in an alternate reality
So far both the rumors and the artwork point in the direction of ‘Fantastic Four’ being set in alternate retro-futuristic reality in the 60′. Fantastic Four will already have their powers and be an established team at the start of the movie. Allegedly the first villain they will fight will be Mole Man.

It's not certain when there'll next be a new Spider-Man movie in theaters. 2023 gave us one of the best ones yet with "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," but the sequel "Beyond The Spider-Verse" doesn't have a concrete release date. Tom Holland's live-action web-slinger is probably returning, but his fourth outing is currently in pre-production.
Fortunately, there are decades of great comics if you need your Spider-Man fix. Some of the best of this past decade, all written by Chip Zdarsky (a pen name for Steve Murray), are now collected all in a single omnibus edition. If you're a Spider-Man movie fan, you'd be remiss not to swing over to a comic shop or bookstore and seek this out.
Zdarsky was once a journalist with a side hustle drawing indie comics, but in the 2010s, he grew into a blockbuster writer for the Big Two companies of superhero comics (he's currently...

The TV academy has honored the work of voice actors nearly every year since 1992 and has bestowed separate Emmys for Best Narrator and Best Voice-Over Performance annually since 2014. Included among those recognized in the former category this year are a three-time champion, a pair of returning nominees and two newcomers (one of whom is a Grammy-winning former U.S. president).
Historian David Attenborough (“The Mating Game”) is seeking his fourth Emmy victory against challengers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (“Black Patriots: Heroes of the Civil War”), W. Kamau Bell (“We Need to Talk About Cosby”), Lupita Nyong’o (“Serengeti II”) and Barack Obama (“Our Great National Parks”). He already bested Abdul-Jabbar and Nyong’o in 2020, but can he do it again, especially with a heavy hitter like Obama in the mix? Let’s take a look at what makes each of these contenders worthy of the honor. Be sure to make your Emmy predictions...

In 1999, the walls started closing in on Sean “Puffy” Combs. Two years prior, his friend and Bad Boy Records superstar, the Notorious B.I.G., was gunned down in California. Puff’s album No Way Out, released a few months after Biggie’s death, bled with genuine grief and sorrow, and Bad Boy seemed like it could be poised to reign for decades. The label’s roster was stacked with many of New York’s most exciting voices — the Lox, Lil Kim, Faith Evans, 112, and Harlem rapper Mase. But by...

Veteran nature cinematographer Jamie McPherson “couldn’t not be involved” with “Our Planet.” Netflix‘s eight-part documentary series narrated by David Attenborough takes viewers through some of nature’s greatest wonders, so he was intrigued by the “huge scope” of the series and “the stories they wanted to tell,” which had “conservation at the heart of it.” Watch our exclusive video interview with McPherson above.
See Sophie Lanfear interview: ‘Our Planet’
McPherson traveled around the globe for the show, and everywhere he went he was tasked with capturing the native wildlife in a unique way. For instance, in the opening episode, “One Planet,” he shot wild dogs and wildebeests in the African Serengeti and “wanted to show people what it was like to be on the hunt with a pack of wild dogs,” he explains. It’s “an amazing thing in itself. You see them running, they’re so fast...

Sophie Lanfear “jumped at the chance” to direct an episode of “Our Planet” because of its central message. The eight-part Netflix documentary series takes audiences around the world to see the wonders of nature, with David Attenborough as your guide. But at the same time it shows how climate change could destroy those wonders. “I want to make more conservation-heavy films if I can,” Lanfear explains, so this was a perfect job for her. Watch our exclusive video interview with Lanfear above.
See Steven Price interview: ‘Our Planet’
As a veteran nature documentarian with directing and producing credits that include “Life Story” and “The Hunt,” Lanfear is always thinking about how to “raise the bar” in the medium. “We’re searching for new stories, fresh angles,” she says. After getting an assignment “you then have to construct your narrative, and through that process work out what is the central story or thesis of the film.

The thought of Alicia Vikander and Eva Green starring in the same movie is enticing enough, but the fact they’re playing sisters in “Euphoria” is almost too amazing to handle. The drama marks the third directorial effort from Lisa Langseth, the Swedish filmmaker who put Vikander on the radar of Hollywood by casting her as the lead in dramas “Pure” and “Hotell.” “Euphoria” marks a coming home of sorts for Vikander, and it should be a knockout.

For young Princess Elizabeth, it was love at first sight.
“The first time I remember meeting Philip was at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, in July 1934, just before the war. I was 13 years of age and he was 18 and a cadet,” she would later recall in a letter.
By the time he was invited to spend Christmas at Windsor Castle, Elizabeth was 17—and it was clear he shared her feelings. Their engagement was kept secret until the future monarch turned 21. And when they married in 1947, it was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on radio, heard and cheered by millions more around the globe.

Maria Bamford, the star of perhaps Netflix’s most truly original comedy, went fully nude in the first episode of “Lady Dynamite,” just for funsies. “There are so many male nude scenes that I think are funny. I just — I’m older, I don’t give a shit,” she said, with a laugh, to IndieWire.
The scene features Bamford dodging attempts to pixelize her naughtiest bits, in an effort to (as one of her pet pugs explains in voice-over) celebrate “body positivity.” That’s an absurd sentence to write, out of context. But it fits perfectly with the mindset that drives “Lady Dynamite,” which features Bamford as a somewhat fictionalized version of herself, dealing with the pitfalls and pratfalls of the entertainment industry in a heightened reality where dogs can talk, the boundaries of space and time don’t matter, and, really, why shouldn’t a 40-something woman strut around naked?...

Every day, it seems, we’re confronted by reminder after reminder that the world is a dumpster fire, so it’s a genuine relief to have a new season of “Lady Dynamite” premiere this weekend. Reality is dumb, but life inside Maria Bamford’s brain is a blessing.
The series, created by Mitch Hurwitz and Pam Brady, is based on Bamford’s life to a deeply felt degree, celebrating her quirks as it chronicles her misadventures as an actor and comedian with plenty of meta touches and occasional dashes of the profane. Inside Maria’s brain, the rules of time and space are constantly in flux, pugs can talk, and even the darkest truths feel bearable, especially when her issues with manic depression and bipolar disorder flare up. At times, “Lady Dynamite” goes down some dark paths. But because the show is so throughly grounded in Bamford’s innate goodness,...

Why Should I Watch It? “Godless” reunites the duo behind “Out of Sight”: Scott Frank (who wrote the 1998 crime romance starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez) pens and directs the new seven-episode limited series, while Steven Soderbergh serves as an executive producer. Aside from these two acclaimed artists (Frank also wrote “Minority Report” and “Logan”), the Netflix original stars Emmy winner Jeff Daniels, Emmy winner Merritt Wever, Emmy nominee Michelle Dockery, and future winner of all the awards, Scoot McNairy. Throw in a classic Western story about a notorious criminal (Daniels) with a gang of outlaws who seek vengeance on a former member (Jack O’Connell) holed up in a mining town governed by women, and “Godless” has all the makings of a great genre entry with all the right modern touches.

Audiences have been clamoring for a peek at “The Big Sick” ever since it was the most talked about comedy to come out of Sundance this year. Written by “Silicon Valley” star and comedian Kumail Nanjiani along with his wife, Emily V. Gordon, “The Big Sick” is the kind of charming romantic comedy we just don’t see enough of these days. Warning: The following article may — or may not — contain spoilers for “The Big Sick.” …It’s hard to say for sure.
Emily Gordon has a problem: She can’t stop spoiling her new movie. She gives away the ending literally every time she leaves her house. But that’s not all — she reveals crucial plot information with every interview, with every tweet, and with every Instagram post. She just can’t seem to help herself. It’s not that Gordon wants to make it harder for people to enjoy “The Big Sick,” it’s just that she’s written an autobiographical story that hinges on the question of whether she lives or dies, and so the mere fact of her continued existence kind of gives away the ending.

Think of your standard YouTube character tribute videos. Three seasons of a show like “Silicon Valley” usually get you some classic one-liners, memorable character beats and a few outtakes for good measure, all wrapped up in a few minutes.
This one for Jared, Zach Woods’ character on HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” runs the length of an entire episode of the show.
Jared has always been at the center of the “Silicon Valley” story (there he is on the Season 1 poster, in full Steve Jobs pose, literally at the side of Pied Piper co-founder Richard Hendricks), but Woods has grown to be the show’s heart too. In a world of backstabbing and self-interest, Jared has remained the show’s sole, true altruist.
“I sometimes think of it as an archetypical family,” Woods said. “Erlich is the rambunctious father, Kumail is the baby boy, Gilfoyle is the cat and Richard is like the favorite son.

Going into Sundance 2017, the hottest acquisition title was Michael Showalter’s “The Big Sick,” written by comedian-star Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordon, based on their true-life cross-cultural romance, and produced by Judd Apatow. It promised all the elements you would want from a breakout Sundance movie: comedy, pathos, authenticity and two rising stars, Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan, along with Holly Hunter and Ray Romano as Emily’s parents.
Why not buy it sight unseen? “It was a movie you see at the Eccles and bid on, especially with a comedy,” said one bidder.
The movie turned out to be that rare creature: a hilarious and humane love story, not saccharine, that feels real.
A host of buyers, from A24 to Weinstein Co., attended the enthusiastic Eccles Friday premiere, after which the players with the deepest-pockets entered the bidding — Netflix, Open Road and others dropped out early when the numbers hit eight figures.

The Orchard and CNN Films have acquired the North American rights to the Sundance entry “Trophy,” directed by Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau. The Orchard is taking all North American rights except broadcast, which will be handled by CNN. A studio is in the process of negotiating international rights to the film.
The acquisition comes on the day of the premiere of the movie, which was produced by Lauren Haber and Julia Nottingham of Pulse Films and screens in Sundance’s U.S. Documentary Competition section.
“Trophy” is a “startling exploration of the evolving relationship between big-game hunting and wildlife conservation,” and will be released this year on at least 150 screens, according to The Orchard. The film looks at endangered African species like elephants, rhinos and lions, and investigates the industries of big-game hunting, breeding and wildlife conservation to ask the question: What are the implications of treating animals as commodities?...

The 2017 Sundance Film Festival has started, and we’re still getting our bearings, but there’s already much to discuss. In this week’s episode, Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson sit down at the IndieWire condo to share some thoughts on the films they’ve already seen and what this year’s festival is telling us about the state of the film industry. The duo don’t quite agree about the future of the art form, but they do find some common ground in their mutual interest in seeing the movies survive.

Jim Broadbent is one of the most amazing actors working today and he still doesn’t quite manage the attention he deserves. There may be some movement on that front on March 10th when The Sense of an Ending hits.
The trailer is out and it looks as though the Julian Barnes’ novel is getting a great treatment. It may start out innocent enough with Broadbent’s Tony Webster as an aging, somewhat reclusive, man of a simple existence, but he is suddenly thrown back into his past and there are secrets there that may be uncovered.
The film also stars Harriet Walter, Michelle Dockery, Emily Mortimer, Billy Howle, Joe Alwyn, Freya Mavor, Matthew Goode, and Charlotte Rampling.
While clearly something of a slow-burn effort, the mix of past and present opens the door for a wilder ride, and this is a cast that cannot be dismissed. This is a great story,...

Thanks to “Persepolis,” “Waltz with Bashir” and “Chicago 10,” the blending of animation with documentaries has become a successful sub-genre. This year, it’s pushed further both thematically and stylistically with great impact.
In “Life, Animated,” the autistic Owen Suskind learned to communicate by watching classic Disney animation; in “Floyd Norman: An Animated Life,” Disney’s first African-American animator gets long overdue recognition; and in “Tower,” the use of rotoscope animation helps recreate a 50-year-old mass shooting at the University of Texas Tower.

In a business where accounting disclosures are often preceded by massive lawsuits, indie distributor The Orchard has gone the other way: Their filmmakers now receive detailed and interactive reports of all expenditures and revenue streams — current and future.
However, this isn’t an altruistic gesture. Paul Davidson, The Orchard’s executive VP film & TV, said the move reflects nothing more than good business. In the turbulent world of indie film distribution, it’s the only way to tap into one of the company’s most valuable marketing assets: The filmmakers themselves.
“I’d rather filmmakers know that $30,000 was the cost of the trailer and in general how much money we are actually spending on publicity and advertising,” he said. “Distribution is not an exact science. For example, I don’t know if releasing our highest-grossing film ever [“Hunt for the Wilderpeople”] exclusively on iTunes is the right move, but I’d rather the filmmakers...

Editor’s Note: Christopher Rufo and Keith Ochwat, like many documentary filmmakers, found a great story they hoped would find an audience and a distributor at a major festival. What they quickly discovered is that sans Oscar potential, a celebrity subject or a slam-dunk marketing hook, nonfiction filmmakers are responsible for finding their film’s unique audience themselves.
But what do you do once you’ve identified that niche audience? How do you make money?
Through trial and error — and a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit — the filmmaking duo behind “Age of Champions” made $1.5 million self-distributing their film. IndieWire recently asked Rufo and Ochwat how they did it, and we were pleasantly surprised that they wrote this clear-eyed essay, which includes real dollar amounts and some cold, hard business advice.

Editor’s Note: Director Sandhya Suri is not a new face at Sundance, where her feature “I for India” premiered a decade ago. Suri though is new to the world of fiction filmmaking after working for years in documentaries. The filmmaker recently brought her first script “Santosh” — the story of a young widow in Northern India, who inherits her husband’s job as police constable — to the 2016 Directors Lab to workshop scenes and get hands on experience directing actors. IndieWire asked her to share her experience and find out what she learned about making the transition for nonfiction to fiction filmmaking.

The Devil Dogs of Kilo Company is a brilliantly conceived, animated WWII epic, which is written and directed by Bobby Easley for a 2015 release. The assistant director of the feature film is Terence Muncy and the engineer is Tom Roosa. Easley, both a director and actor and the CEO of Horror Wasteland Pictures International, is known for “The Boogeyman;” “The River Runs Black;” “Scream Machine;” “All Sinners Night;” and “X.” “All Sinners Night” has distribution through Mvd Entertainment Group, Wwmm and Chemical Burn.
The plot of the innovative feature film revolves around “…a company of Marines deep behind enemy lines on a top secret mission. The company is out-manned and outgunned as they fight their way to hell and back leaving a path of death and destruction in their wake.” The creative trailer can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFdmQH01UXM&feature=youtu.
