Megan Thee Stallion says she navigated “dark times” after being shot by Tory Lanez in 2020, offering new insight this week into her recovery from the assault.
“As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashings, and handle it with grace,” Stallion told Women’s Health. “But I’m human.”
In December 2022, Lanez was convicted of three felonies for shooting Megan, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm that left the hip-hop star with bullet fragments in her feet. During the trial, Megan faced backlash from fans and fellow artists who questioned the validity of her version of the story.
“A lot of people didn’t treat me like I was human for a long time,” Stallion recalled of the vitriol. “I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl.

For her “unofficial” 2009 John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, Sam Taylor-Johnson had so little music to work with that the opening chord of “Hard Day’s Night” pretty much had to carry the whole movie. You might think that history would repeat for Back to Black, the short but fast-lived story of Amy Winehouse, who rose to international fame in her teens and never saw 28, never mind 30. Surprisingly, the Winehouse estate is all in, and although one might argue that the singer’s trainwreck notoriety has been slightly snow-washed to protect the living, there’s still a surprisingly hard edge here, in a rare film that gives rock ’n’ roll agency to a woman for once, like a reverse-angle Sid & Nancy.
In a way, any music biopic is off to a bad start, since there’s always going to be the curse of symmetry: everything must square with what we already know,...

Pharrell appears to be celebrating his 51st birthday today, April 5, with a gift to fans — a new album that’s totally free to stream and download through one specific website.
To say there aren’t many confirmable details about the 10-track project is an understatement. Based purely on the album artwork, the project appears to be called Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1: City of Limitless Access and might be credited to a group called Virginia — though, for all we know, Virginia is part of the title.

Fifty years ago, Stephen King published a slim novel about a lonely girl finding her power and the world of horror has never been the same. We all know the story by now. Outcast Carrie White gets bullied by her classmates and abused by her ultra-religious mother. Good Girl Sue Snell convinces her boyfriend to take Carrie to prom in her place. Mean Girl Chris Hargenson orchestrates a plot to get Carrie voted Prom Queen then coronates her with a bucket of pig’s blood. They all laugh and Carrie unleashes her deadly powers of telekinesis. King’s story of high school morality and bloody revenge has woven itself into the fabric of American life, extending its reach well past genre limits. To mark this milestone, The Losers’ Club celebrates the birth of a legend with a Twinner book episode on the 1974 novel Carrie.

Two of the newest heartthrobs in Hollywood’s entertainment industry, Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan, are once again making rounds on the internet. Though this time, it isn’t because of their remarkable onscreen performances, but rather because of all the rumors indicating there’s more going on between them than what the eyes can see.

While reports about the pair’s rumored relationship have been swirling in the air since March this year, Keoghan seems to have further added fuel to that already raging fire. TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.

The 1962 sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies" was the first in show creator Paul Henning's unofficial Hooterville Trilogy, a triune that also included 1963's "Petticoat Junction," and 1965's "Green Acres." These three shows were among the most popular of their time and reflected a cultural clash between a growing class of cosmopolitan urbanites and "down home" rural Americans. Working thematically backward, "Green Acres" was about a pair of New Yorkers who move onto a farm, "Petticoat Junction" was about rural hotel owners who often butted heads with a rich railroad executive, and "The Beverly Hillbillies" was about rural characters moving to Beverly Hills. The Hooterville Trilogy was as sure a sign as any that schisms were forming in American society, and Henning was eager to address the injustice of the class divides, often sympathizing with his hillbillies and lambasting the wealthy.

It has been a full decade since "Kick-Ass 2" hit theaters and, in all of that time, there has been much talk of a third film. Sadly, for fans of Dave Lizewski's brand of vigilante justice, nothing has materialized. The world still awaits the return of Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl in some way, shape, or form. Fortunately, it does seem like the tide may be turning in that regard and that "Kick-Ass 3" will finally happen. Sort of. It's a little complicated, but we're here to lay it all out and help explain precisely what's going on with the franchise.
Creator Mark Millar may have said that "Kick-Ass 3" wasn't in development back in 2014, but much has changed since then. So, will Aaron Taylor-Johnson and/or Chloe Grace Moretz be back in their roles as Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl? Is director Matthew Vaughn going to return? Is it going to be a sequel or a reboot?...

And whether you think it’s ultimately satisfying, it does provide a conclusive finale for the trilogy that started in 2018 with David Gordon Green’s “Halloween” and continued with the blood-soaked sequel, 2021’s “Halloween Kills.” Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode, a part she first played in John Carpenter’s groundbreaking 1978 original, has her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the unstoppable serial killer who has haunted her for all of these years.
Did good vanquish evil? Or was evil ultimately triumphant? And what if the ending you saw in theaters or on Peacock wasn’t the ending that was originally intended?
TheWrap talked to co-writer/director David Gordon Green about the possible alternate endings of “Halloween Ends.”
Major spoiler warning for “Halloween Ends.” If you haven’t seen it yet, grab your butcher knife and head back now!

Dir: Maria Schrader. Starring: Carey Mulligan, Zoe Kazan, Patricia Clarkson, Andre Braugher, Jennifer Ehle, Samantha Morton. 135 minutes.
In 2017, The New York Times published a harrowing front-page account of the prolific sexual abuses committed by Hollywood mega-mogul Harvey Weinstein. Journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor spent months tracking down rumours and investigating the financial payouts that allowed him to prey on actresses and assistants for decades. More than 85 people would eventually come forward with accusations against Weinstein, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and Ashley Judd. Women started saying #MeToo and #MeToo and #MeToo.
Later, Twohey and Kantor’s Pulitzer-winning journalism became a book about their reporting journey called She Said. Now, that book is a disappointingly under-paced movie, starring Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan as the tireless reporters/tired moms who brought down the most powerful man in movies. Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” Kicked Out of Grammy Rap Category, Will Compete in Pop (Exclusive)
Click here to read the full article.
Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” is spending its eighth week on top of Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart, but at the Grammys, the song will compete in the pop category.
Minaj originally submitted the track — which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in August — to the rap categories at the Grammys, but the decision was overturned by the Recording Academy’s rap committee, according to a source. That group determined that Minaj’s playful and pop-sounding song sampling Rick James’ 1981 classic “Super Freak” should compete for best pop solo performance instead of rap awards.
Minaj criticized the decision on social media Thursday in an Instagram video post and a series of tweets. “They stay moving the goalposts when it comes to me,” Minaj said on Ig about the academy. “Why is the goalpost only ever moved when it’s Nicki?...

With apologies to Nike, “Just duet” became The Voice’s unofficial motto Monday night as the episode finished up Season 22’s Blind Auditions and began the Battles. Or, as I think of them, the round in which we are forced to reconsider why some of our early favorites were our favorites in the first place and say goodbye to others owing to befuddling decisions on the part of coaches John Legend, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello. Are you ready? Me, neither. But let’s dive in, anyway. The only way out is through!

Many viewers ofLuckiest Girl Alive, which is currently number one on Netflix’s Top 10, have been wondering whether the Mila Kunis-starrer is based on a true story.
The film follows Kunis’s Ani, a writer whose seemingly perfect life starts to unravel when a true-crime documentary forces her to confront a school shooting she experienced as a teenager.
Luckiest Girl Alive contains harrowing scenes, with many viewers calling for stronger trigger warnings, but is it based on real life events?
***This article contains spoilers for Luckiest Girl Alive***
The answer is not straightforward. The film is technically based on a 2015 mystery novel of the same name by Jessica Knoll. In that book, a teenage Ani is gang raped at a house party by several of her classmates. She tells her friends Arthur and Ben what happened, and they then share their experiences of being bullied by the same boys who raped Ani.
The film follows Kunis’s Ani, a writer whose seemingly perfect life starts to unravel when a true-crime documentary forces her to confront a school shooting she experienced as a teenager.

Mila Kunis is explaining the “logical” approach she took to understand her complicated character in her new film, “Luckiest Girl Alive”. Et’s Nischelle Turner spoke with Kunis before the thriller hit Netflix on Friday, where she shared how she “reverse engineered” the role before letting the emotions of the film take over.
“I mean, I don’t know if I’m gonna sound like a sociopath, but it wasn’t that hard,” Kunis said of portraying some of the film’s more difficult moments onscreen. “I have a very healthy relationship when it comes to acting. I don’t live and breathe it when I come home. I’ve always said this: who I am and what I do are two very different things.”
“Understanding the why of the character is always the easiest way in,” she continued. “And I guess I reverse engineered it, so, I went like,...

Name an actor — almost any working actor you can think of — and there is a fairly good chance they are in David O. Russell’s Amsterdam. Christian Bale, the intense thespian who’s done his best work with the equally all-or-nothing-at-all auteur? No surprise that he’s front and center here. Ditto Russell rep-company regular Robert De Niro. Rising star John David Washington? Yup, him too. Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-Joy, both current candidates for “It girl” status circa 2022? Present and accounted for. How about Chris Rock, or Rami Malek,...

Maren Morris is nominated for Album of the Year at the 2022 Country Music Association Awards for “Humble Quest,” but she may not attend the event. “I’m very honored that my record is nominated. But I don’t know if I feel [at] home there right now,” she explained to the Los Angeles Times. That follows blowback from Morris speaking out on social media against transphobic comments by Brittany Aldean, the wife of right-wing country star Jason Aldean.
Brittany Aldean posted on Instagram, “I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase,” suggesting that being transgender is a phase (it’s not) and that trans youth receive irreversible treatments (they don’t). Singer Cassadee Pope criticized her on Twitter, and Morris followed by saying about Aldean, “It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it,...

Meet Cute is taking the "girl meets boy" trope and turning it on its head. Sure, Sheila (Kaley Cuoco) and Gary (Pete Davidson) seemingly fall in love at first sight as many rom-com couples do, but unbeknownst to Gary, there's more to the story that meets the eye. In fact, as Sheila reveals in the trailer for the upcoming Peacock film, the pair's magical meeting and subsequent first date isn't fate at all. Sheila's actually got a time machine—and they've been falling in love over and over again. "I have got to come clean with you," she eventually fesses up in the trailer. "I'm from the future." Gary is naturally taken aback,...

Although a theatrical release date has not yet been set for Lukas Dhont’s second feature Close, A24 is capitalizing off the Telluride premiere of the Grand Prix Cannes winner by releasing the first trailer. Coming from the 31-year-old Belgian director, the film follows Léo and Rémi, two thirteen-year-old best friends whose seemingly unbreakable bond is suddenly, tragically torn apart.
David Katz said in his review, “Lukas Dhont’s Close, following up Girl from 2017, admirably attempts to delve into a friendship like this, with sensitivity and a rare gift of observation. Where it falters is an attempt to stir and batter the viewer with melodramatic plot turns and operatic emotion. This approach will likely please more of its audiences to come than others, but Dhont here arguably becomes so carried away with the emotional tempest he has an undoubted gift to conjure that the arc of the film feels artificial,...

A24 has released a trailer for Belgian director Lukas Dhont’s second feature, the melancholy coming of age story Close. The film won the Grand Prix (shared with Claire Denis‘s Stars at Noon) at Cannes, four years after Dhont’s debut feature Girl won the Caméra d’Or and Queer Palm in 2018. Close follows two 13-year-old best friends, Léo and Rémi (Eden Dambrine and Gustav de Waele) who spent an idyllic summer strengthening their unique bond. When they arrive back at school, however, the two are harassed by classmates over the nature of their relationship. Embarrassed by these insults and accusations, Léo […]

A24 has revealed a beautiful official US trailer for the acclaimed Belgian film titled Close, which originally premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It's the second feature from filmmaker Lukas Dhont, his follow-up to the film Girl, earning rave reviews and the Grand Prix prize in Cannes. Many critics thought it should've been the Palme d'Or winner in Cannes this year over the Ruben Ostlund film - I was one of them voicing this exact sentiment as well. An unforgettable story of friendship and growing up. The intense friendship between two thirteen-year old boys Leo and Remi suddenly gets disrupted. Struggling to understand what happened, Léo approaches Sophie, Rémi's mother. The film stars Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele as the two boys, with Émilie Dequenne & Léa Drucker. I raved about this film in my Cannes review, proclaiming "it's a genuine work of art that exemplifies all...

Lukas Dhont’s sophomore effort captures the crushing weight of middle school friendship.
“Close” centers on Léo and Rémi, two 13-year-old best friends whose seemingly unbreakable bond is suddenly, tragically torn apart. As the duo are teased for being a “couple,” the trailer keeps their relationship — and its tragic end — elusive. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Dhont’s second film is an emotionally transformative and unforgettable portrait of the intersection of friendship and love, identity and independence, and heartbreak and healing.
“Close” is directed by Dhont and co-written by Dhont and Angelo Tijssens. The film stars Eden Dambrine, Igor Van Dessel, Émilie Dequenne, and Léa Drucker, and is distributed by A24. There is no release date yet for the award-winning feature.

After a lifetime spent creating outrage and offence, both on and off screen, Korean master Kim Ki-duk has left the world with this final film, finished by his friends after his death. The story of a passionate affair that curdles almost immediately into jealousy and hate – but ends on a lyrically wistful note – is a startlingly appropriate rogue’s epitaph.
Call of God was shot in Kyrgyzstan, Estonia and Latvia in 2019. Kim died of complications from Covid in late 2020 at age 59; the film was assembled by Artur Veeber, his Estonia-based producer. Sexual manipulation, seething violence, spiritual yearning and the consoling beauty of the natural world – all the signal elements of his work since his debut with Crocodile in 1996 – are here. It is a minor film but, like everything he made, distinctively his.

Catherine Deneuve has no regrets. Though the French icon has worked with everyone from Buñuel to Bjork, she doesn’t dwell on the decades she’s spent on screen. And, at 78, she’s certainly not thinking of retirement.
“I’m not at all ready to draw up a career assessment,” says Deneuve during an interview at the sleek, four-star Hotel Gabriel in Paris’ Saint-Germain des Près — her go-to place for the rare interviews she gives. “I’m very focused on the present, a little on the past and even on the near-future.”
But it’s her legacy of indelible performances that’s on the menu during the interview, which is being conducted as Deneuve prepares to be celebrated at the Venice Film Festival with a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. Sophisticated as ever and sporting a plunging neckline that exposes her black tulle lingerie, Deneuve feels conflicted about the honor.

The “World’s Most Beautiful Girl” Thylane Blondeau is proving how she got her impressive title after being spotted enjoying a beach day in Saint Tropez with her boyfriend, Ben Attal.
The French model wore an emerald green two-piece that left very little to the imagination, as her top was just inches wide and the bottoms, though she was turned toward the camera, looked to be a thong.
Thylane accessorized her beach look with a pair of black sunglasses and multiple pairs of earrings. She wore a thick gold chain around her neck and had her hair pulled back into a slick ponytail.
The 21-year-old model was barefoot for her romp in the ocean and looked to be enjoying the cool water despite temperatures in the French vacation spot being rather mild right now.

Get out the hairspray and shoulder pads: 20th Century Studios is developing a new version of the 1988 film "Working Girl." The project reportedly has "Only Murders in the Building" star and executive producer Selena Gomez in final negotiations to produce the film, with Ilana Peña ("Diary of a Future President") adapting the script. The site doesn't say if Gomez would star in the role made famous by Melanie Griffith, though she would be a great choice, with a very different feel than Griffith had. And a different feel is certainly called for with a new take on this film.
