Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has found himself at the center of controversy again due to his recent visit to Moscow and an off-the-cuff conversation he had with a Russian journalist.
Carlson is in the city for his highly anticipated interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The interview, confirmed by the Kremlin and Russian state news agency Tass, will be the first with an American journalist since 2021 and is expected to be released once it is prepared.
In a brief clip filmed in a parking lot, Carlson stated, “I really do like [Moscow], I’m not just saying that. Why do I feel like I’m betraying my country when I’m saying that? I’m not, I love America.”
Carlson’s praise for Moscow has drawn criticism from journalists and media organizations.

Update: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Tucker Carlson interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
Per The Guardian, Peskov told reporters, “When it comes to the countries of the collective west, the large network media, TV channels, [and] large newspapers can in no way boast of even trying to at least look impartial in terms of coverage,” Peskov said.
“These are all media outlets that take an exceptionally one-sided position. Of course, there is no desire to communicate with such media, and it hardly makes sense, and it is unlikely that it will be useful.”
Peskov, though, acknowledged that the Kremlin does receive “numerous requests” from major media outlets to interview Putin, according to the news site Meduza. That contradicts Carlson’s claim that U.S. journalists have not even bothered to try to interview the Russian leader.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will sit down for his first interview with an American outlet in three years … with Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host.
Carlson announced the interview on X on Tuesday, accusing other media outlets of being corrupt in their coverage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Since the day the war in Ukraine began, American media outlets have spoken to scores of people from Ukraine, and they have done scores of interviews with Ukrainian President Zelensky,” Carlson said in a video posted to his X account. “We ourselves have put in a request for an interview with Zelensky. We hope he accepts, but the interviews he’s already done in the United States are not traditional interviews, they are fawning pep sessions.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, Sep. 19, is shaping up to be a global spectacle. World leaders, including President Biden, will be in attendance, and the world’s media will be there, too.
The queen’s funeral will be the first time such an event has been broadcast on television. In 1952, when Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne, the funeral procession of King George VI was televised in the U.K., but the funeral itself remained private. Not so this time.
While the BBC will be the official broadcaster of the proceedings, every U.S. TV news organization will be in attendance, flying in many of their top anchors and blowing up their typical programming lineups to carry it live.

The news focus on Presidents Day was of Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin, as he ordered troops to enter two separatist regions of Ukraine for “peacekeeping” purposes after he recognized their independence.
Cable news networks carried parts of Putin’s speech, with his move viewed by correspondents and foreign policy analysts as another step toward war.
The White House responded with a vow to begin imposing sanctions, with President Joe Biden poised to issue an executive order to prohibit trade, investment and financing in those areas. The sanctions also will include any person “determined to operate” in those areas.
“To be clear: these measures are separate from and would be in addition to the swift and severe economic measures we have been preparing in coordination with Allies and partners should Russia further invade Ukraine,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement.

Tucker Carlson accused the National Security Agency of reading the emails he sent as part of a plan to secure an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin and then leaking them to news outlets.
The accusation was the latest development in Carlson’s claims that the Nsa was spying on him, triggering a rare statement from the intelligence agency denying that the Fox News personality was an intelligence target. The agency also denied Carlson’s claim that it was attempting to force his show off the air.
He continued to make the claims, but the story gained a new wrinkle Wednesday afternoon when Axios reported that Carlson had been seeking an interview with Putin through an intermediary.
That raised the possibility that one of those intermediaries, ostensibly a person with ties to Putin, was under surveillance as a foreign agent. Axios reported that U.S. government officials learned of Carlson’s efforts to secure the interview,...

NBC News released some excerpts from Keir Simmons’ sitdown with Vladimir Putin, including one in which Simmons asks the Russian president, “Are you a killer.”
Putin laughed and answered the question, and didn’t exactly say, “No,” while giving some blame to Hollywood.
The context: Simmons, the network’s senior international correspondent, asked Putin, “The late John McCain in Congress called you a killer. When President Trump was asked, was told that you are a killer. He didn’t deny it. When President Biden was asked whether he believes you are a killer. He said, I do. Mr President, are you a killer?”
“Over my tenure, I’ve gotten used to attacks from all kinds of angles and from all kinds of areas under all kinds of pretext, and reasons and of different caliber and fierceness and none of it surprises me … So, as far as harsh rhetoric, I think...

All the major broadcast and cable networks carried the funeral of Prince Philip on Saturday, a mark of how significant the Royal Family is in the U.S.
But in the prelude of the service at St. George’s Chapel, there was a bit of a contrast between coverage on American outlets and those on the other side of the pond.
As the procession started around Windsor Castle, with Prince Charles, Princess Anne and other members of the Royal Family following Philip’s casket, placed in the back of a specially fit Land Rover, the commentary largely continued on U.S. networks while BBC World Service went with uninterrupted audio and visuals of the ceremony itself.
The network anchors and royal watchers began to pause their remarks as the procession got closer to the chapel, and as Queen Elizabeth II entered to the national anthem “God Save the Queen,” occasionally sprinkling in remarks.
