Timothee Chalamet got the internet talking when he hinted at who was the “smelliest” actor that he ever worked with.
During a recent interview on BBC Radio 1, the 29-year-old actor was asked to name the costar who had the most undesirable odor.
He opted out of naming anyone specifically because he said that would be “mean.” However, Timothee did provide a lot of hints. For starters, he confirmed that it was not Casey Affleck, who he worked with on 2014′s Interstellar.
What did he say?
“I did work on a Western years ago and somebody was, quote – unquote, in character the whole time. And it was something,” he said. “It was quite something on set. You know, that waft coming in every day.”
He continued, explaining, “They just weren’t washing. And the nails…”

Netflix is cool with commercials now, but still not theaters. Well, unless it’s one of the two exhibition houses it owns: the Egyptian in Hollywood and the Paris in New York. But sometimes, you just have to give Greta Gerwig her way.
Around Christmas 2024, IMAX and Netflix struck a deal to distribute Gerwig’s upcoming “The Chronicles of Narnia” film adaptation exclusively on at least 1,000 IMAX screens worldwide, one month ahead of the movie’s streaming premiere. After 2-3 weeks on IMAX screens — depending on IMAX’s desire to extend the run — Netflix has the optionality to place “Narnia” in regular theatres. Either way, “Narnia” debuts on Netflix on Christmas Day 2026.
The agreement was many months of negotiations in the making, a person with knowledge of the deal told IndieWire. Gerwig always had her sights on wanting an IMAX — not just theatrical — release for “Narnia.” Three or four months ago,...

Hans Zimmer and frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan have quite the bond — so much so that Nolan even courted Zimmer for his 2014 epic “Interstellar” by sharing a very personal story.
Zimmer told Vulture that his favorite Nolan collaboration remains “Interstellar” due to how the project began.
“Chris sent me a letter and said to write whatever came to me. He wouldn’t tell me what the movie was, but he wrote me this fable,” Zimmer said. “It arrived on thick paper, and I know it was typed with his father’s typewriter. It was really about what it means to become a father, how you always look at yourself from then on through your children’s eyes.”
Zimmer continued, “He knows my son Jake very well, so I thought that’s what he was writing about. So I basically wrote a love theme to my son. I finished around ten at night.

Paul Mescal, Merrily We Roll Along, 20-Year Shoot, Linklater, Filming Challenge (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Paul Mescal is strapping in for a filmmaking journey like no other. The Aftersun star revealed he had second thoughts when signing up for Richard Linklater’s Merrily We Roll Along, a film set to be shot over 20 years. “I probably thought, ‘Oh, fuck!’” Mescal told Esquire UK, acknowledging the magnitude of the commitment.
Linklater, known for his time-lapse epic Boyhood, is tackling Stephen Sondheim’s beloved musical with the same long-game approach. The story, originally a Broadway play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, follows three friends in reverse chronological order as their careers in entertainment unfold and unravel. Mescal plays Franklin Shepard, a composer, alongside Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein as his closest companions.

Charlize Theron on Physical Transformations (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Charlize Theron has drawn the line when it comes to dramatic weight changes for movie roles. The Monster star told Allure she’s officially done with the extreme transformations that Hollywood so often glorifies. “I will never do a movie again and say, ‘Yeah, I’ll gain 40 pounds,’” she revealed. “I will never do it again because you can’t take it off.”
Theron, now 48, recalled how drastically her body’s response has changed over the years. When she gained 40 pounds for Monster at 27, losing it felt almost effortless. “I missed three meals and was back to my normal weight,” she admitted. However, the story was very different when she added weight for Tully in 2018. It took her an entire year to get back to her regular size — but not without some panic. “I even called a doctor,” she said, convinced something was seriously wrong.

Cillian Murphy Discussed Interstellar (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan? That’s a collab for the ages. Oppenheimer just added another epic chapter to their nearly 20-year partnership. But even with all the badass roles Murphy’s had in Nolan’s films, there’s one flick he totally wishes he’d been in — Interstellar.
In an interview with The Independent, Murphy admitted that he’s often fantasized about joining the 2014 space epic. Interstellar has always been a deeply emotional experience for him, especially after seeing it in theaters with his young kids. “I adore Interstellar just because I find it so emotional,” Murphy confessed. “I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart.”
However, Murphy wasn’t bitter about not being cast in the film. He recognized that Nolan made the right choices with the film’s cast.

Matt Damon & Ridley Scott’s The Martian Was Billed As A Comedy At The 73rd Golden Globe Awards (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Starring Matt Damon in one of his greatest on-screen performances, The Martian was a cinematic sensation in 2015, mesmerizing fans, critics, and award committees alike. The sci-fi space adventure also featured Jessica Chastain, reuniting her with Damon after another space journey: Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian collected $600 million back on Earth — the highest of the Gladiator II director’s career. Recently, Scott once again addressed whether The Martian should be categorized as a comedy, a subject that has received immense traction over the years. While the Alien filmmaker embraced its script’s humorous undertones from before the genesis, audiences were unanimously impressed by The Martian due to its touching themes, action-packed sequences, and artistic world-building rather than belly laughs in theaters.

Sci-fi movies often prioritize stories and visuals over scientific accuracy, because their goal is to entertain, not educate. Many concepts, like space travel or futuristic technology, are based on imagination rather than real science, or at least science that is currently based on our understanding of physics still far away.
Filmmakers may also take creative liberties to make the plot more thrilling or easier to follow for the audience. Most people aren’t really all that bothered by these inaccuracies, but Neil deGrasse Tyson is not most people.
Celebrity scientist Tyon often points out scientific inaccuracies in Hollywood movies, especially in sci-fi films, not to spoil the fun but to encourage better accuracy. He often highlights unrealistic concepts, like artificial gravity or sound in space, and provides corrections based on real science.

Did Christopher Nolan crash a Boeing 747? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Instead of tinkering with CGI or scaling down to toy planes, Christopher Nolan went full throttle and crashed a real Boeing 747. Because apparently, blowing up a 230-ton jet is just another Tuesday in Nolan-world.
Turns out, buying and wrecking a plane was actually cheaper than faking it. Nolan broke it down, explaining, “We started to run the numbers… It became apparent that it would actually be more efficient to buy a real plane of the real size and perform this sequence for real.”
A place in California had planes lying around (as one does), so Christopher pulled the ultimate “add to cart” move. Cue Scott Fisher (special effects guru) and Nathan Crowley (production design wizard), who figured out how to make a plane-smashing scene work in real life. The result? A hangar-shaking spectacle that even Nolan called “a very exciting thing to be a part of.

In the layered and complicated history of DC’s live-action film industry, one of the most iconic films to ever come into existence was Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Spanning the eras of birth, evolution, and death, the three films rewrote DC history through the enigmatic lens of Nolan’s visionary saga.

But for every great creation, there also exists an antithesis that argues against everything that a work stands for. Nolan’s Dark Knight saga too came under fire for representing a worldview that was deemed problematic by some fans. Although art is always up for interpretation and exploration, fans can often lend the wrong meaning to a project, thus ruining its central message and making it divisive among fans, as a result.

Christopher Nolan always aims big, and his latest project is no exception. Renowned for his mind-bending stories and blockbuster success, Nolan is now bringing Greek mythology to life with The Odyssey.
You know, Homer’s ancient epic—the one that’s about gods, monsters, and Odysseus taking the scenic route home for a decade. Well, Nolan’s tackling it with a film that has a million-dollar price tag. It’s so massive, it makes Interstellar and Oppenheimer feel like indie flicks.

The Odyssey is a “mythic action epic” that’ll use groundbreaking IMAX film technology to bring Homer’s sweeping tale to life. If anyone can pull this off, it’s Nolan. But how does The Odyssey’s budget stack up against Nolan’s past films (Interstellar and Oppenheimer)? Let’s break it down!

Following The Film Stage’s collective top 50 films of 2024, as part of our year-end coverage, our contributors are sharing their personal top 10 lists.
When reflecting on any year in movies, the theatrical experience rings most memorable. From driving across the border to Ohio with friends to watch No Country for Old Men in 2007, to a 35mm screening of Stalker at the Wexner Center for the Arts in 2011, with so rapt an audience I was terrified to swallow for fear it would disrupt their experience—each year holds it own special memories and 2024 was no different. There was a lively afternoon matinee of Between the Temples in which I was the youngest present by about 25 years, and a sold-out Wednesday screening of Showgirls at the Academy Museum with Elizabeth Berkley in person. But judging from reactions on X.com, I’m not alone in my favorite 2024 theatrical screening being witnessing Interstellar in 70mm IMAX.

Netflix continues to dominate the streaming sphere, and frankly it's not hard to see why. The streamer pumps out so much so-called "content" that I'm starting to wonder whether half of this stuff isn't already being generated by some god awful AI. Still, amid the onslaught of media, Netflix put out some pretty good films in 2024, most notably the killer action thriller "Rebel Ridge," which surely went a long way to helping star Aaron Pierre land the role of John Stewart in DC and James Gunn's burgeoning shared universe.
Netflix started 2025 strong, too, proving that streaming audiences still know a good film when they see one by delivering Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" to its servers and seeing it shoot to the top of the charts. No doubt the rest of the year will see more of the same quality filmmaking punctuating a sea of otherwise forgettable streaming slush. But...

Zach Galifianakis is easily one of the most praiseworthy actor cum comedians in the entire entertainment industry, and it’s not just because he’s good at delivering jokes that leave his audiences wheezing with laughter. Rather, it’s because, as famed as he is for roasting others, he is equally famous for getting roasted in return, even if it’s most scripted.

For one, even great Hollywood A-listers like actress Jennifer Lawrence and actor cum comedian Steve Carell have dropped some really brutal one-liners to roast and fat-shame him over his physique. And, as cruel as all of those fat-shaming comments were, they weren’t the only ones to do so, and we can’t decide who did it better.

"Oppenheimer" may have become the highest-grossing biopic of all time, and the Dark Knight trilogy may have made Christopher Nolan into a household name, but "Interstellar" is a strong contender for the director's best film simply because it has more of an emotional core than any of his other projects. By now, it's fairly well documented that "Interstellar" is somewhat of an outlier among the Nolan filmography in that regard. But the more you think about it, the more impressive it becomes.
A huge, galaxy-spanning space epic that actually sends a man into the singularity of a black hole during its climax also manages to be the most heartfelt and intimate portrait of human connection Nolan has ever wrought. That oddly complimentary dichotomy extends to other areas of the film, too. Just consider how committed to scientific realism Nolan was and how fantastical the events in the movie are. This...

Alright, let’s cut to the chase. After Christopher Nolan wrapped up Oppenheimer, a movie that was nothing short of a cinematic bombshell, I was left thinking, “What on earth could possibly top this?” I mean, the acclaimed director didn’t just make a movie; he detonated a cinematic nuclear bomb that rewrote the rules, bagged him Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture, and left us all questioning reality.
So, what’s next? Take a well-deserved break? Hang up his director’s chair for a cozy retirement? No, that’s not Nolan. Instead, he is rolling up his sleeves and diving straight into an even bigger challenge—The Odyssey. And if you know Nolan, you know he doesn’t just make movies; he reimagines entire worlds.

This week, David Fincher’s classic Se7en has been given a limited IMAX release in honour of its 30th anniversary and as a teaser for its upcoming 4K release on Tuesday. As someone who missed the original film in theaters, I was pretty excited to revisit Fincher’s classic via an IMAX screening, especially since I probably hadn’t seen the film in about twenty years or so.
One thing worth noting is that the screening I attended in downtown Montreal was at least three-quarters full, which is impressive considering it’s a movie that’s pretty much streaming everywhere. Folks like going to see these classics on the big screen, especially in the IMAX format, with the recent re-releases of Interstellar and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace also pulling in big bucks.
So how did it look?

In a groundbreaking development for cinema enthusiasts, it has been revealed that acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan and his long-time collaborator, cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, have tested IMAX’s next-generation 65mm film camera for their upcoming epic, The Odyssey. According to our sources, this collaboration signals that van Hoytema will serve as the Director of Photography (Dp) for Nolan’s much-anticipated project, ensuring the continuation of their iconic visual style. Here’s why this news is monumental for the world of cinema.
Hoyte van Hoytema: “Celluloid is alive-and-kicking” The Legacy of Nolan and Hoytema
Christopher Nolan and Hoyte van Hoytema’s partnership has redefined modern cinema’s visual language. Their collaboration began with Interstellar (2014), a visually stunning journey through space, and continued with Dunkirk (2017), Tenet (2020), and Oppenheimer (2023). Christopher Nolan is not going to touch another film in the superhero genre after the Dark Knight trilogy. He was quick to reply with a “no” when asked the same during an interview. Nolan’s films, in which Christian Bale played Batman, are often hailed as some of the best superhero films of all time. However, it doesn’t mean Nolan is done with big franchises.

He couldn’t give a definitive answer when asked about directing a Star Wars film. It appears that George Lucas’ space opera films have always challenged the Inception director, who once shared that he was afraid to touch the subject. According to the director, he first saw the 1977 film when he was just seven years old.

As we enter 2025, the future of the box office looks as uncertain as ever, but if there's one thing we know for sure it's that we're all destined to scroll the Netflix interface for years to come. In recent weeks, amid the usual festive fare, the streamer offered up its usual cavalcade of kind of okay "content" that exited our collective cortex as quickly as it entered. Netflixers sent Megan Fox's sci-fi thriller "Subservience" to the top of the streamer's charts over the festive period, while the Keira Knightley-led spy thriller series "Black Doves" similarly triumphed in the Netflix rankings.
But Netflix's 2024 wasn't entirely defined by slickly-produced yet somehow instantly forgettable films and TV shows. Amid the 10 best Netflix movies of 2024, we had some real standouts, including what proved to be a breakout turn for Aaron Pierre in the excellent "Rebel Ridge" and the affecting family drama of "His Three Daughters.

Oscar winner Matt Damon, now 54, has given the industry some of the most memorable hits of recent decades. The Cambridge native has shown off an exemplary range of acting with his roles in movies such as Goodwill Hunting, Interstellar, and the Bourne franchise.
While he has undoubtedly had a Hollywood career better than most, there is one area that he has yet to foray into: the superhero genre. This rings even more severe when considering the fact that Damon, as a kid, always wanted to play a superhero.
The actor even sacrificed an ankle for his dream, and while it may be too late to portray a Marvel or DC superhero, another interesting opportunity may as well present itself, in the near future. Damon may be the perfect candidate for a compelling Batman villain, in the form of Thomas Elliot, a.k.a. Hush.

Matthew McConaughey Marvel Hulk (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Imagine Matthew McConaughey as Bruce Banner. The guy who crushed it in Magic Mike and won an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club almost played the Hulk. But Marvel didn’t have it. He spilled the rejection on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, saying, “Wanted it.” He threw his hat in the ring, but Marvel passed with a “No, thank you.” Ouch.
By the time the MCU hit, McConaughey was at the top of his game—A Time to Kill, rom-coms, then the “McConaissance” in Magic Mike, Killer Joe, and Interstellar. With superhero films everywhere, he thought, why not him?
McConaughey’s love for the Hulk goes back to the classic The Incredible Hulk TV show. So when Marvel was casting, he figured he was the guy. But nope. Marvel went with Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk (2008), and by The Avengers (2012), Mark Ruffalo was the one smashing it.

Idris Elba McConaughey Young Odin (Photo Credit – Instagram/Facebook)
So, here’s a fun throwback: Idris Elba once pitched Matthew McConaughey as the perfect young Odin for the MCU. Yep, Thor’s dad. Elba, who killed it as Heimdall in the Thor movies, was all in on the idea after working with McConaughey in The Dark Tower. He even said, “He could be Thor’s dad. Play a young version of him. Smash it.” Bold, right?
Now, if you’re thinking, McConaughey as Odin? Seriously?—same here. But let’s not forget, this was post-McConaissance. The man had left his rom-com era in the dust and was straight-up slaying in Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar, and True Detective. By then, McConaughey wasn’t just back in the A-list club—he was running the show. Marvel even tried to reel him in for Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

While we use movies as an escape from reality, 3D films take this escapism into a whole new dimension, quite literally. Thanks to 3D technology, filmmakers have the freedom to give their audience an immersive experience and bring them into their fictional world. While directors like Martin Scorsese praise this advancement, Christopher Nolan challenges the view and admits that 3D filmmaking is simply not up his alley.

Secret Level is an excellent gaming anthology series similar to Love Death Robots streaming on Prime Video. If you haven’t watched it, do so now. It is a fantastic series. I haven’t played many of the games on this list, and still enjoyed every episode. Now that the show has been renewed for season two, let’s rank every episode in the first season.
15. Spelunky: Tally
Again, there aren’t any bad episodes, but this one lacked in its ability to grab my attention. The game it's based off of is a Roguelike mining game in which you essentially do everything the characters do in the episode. Die, over and over. Like all the episodes, there was a solid theme: each time you die, you still learn something on the adventure. It simply was not very entertaining.

Christopher Nolan has done his fair share of mind-boggling science fiction films that fans believe him to have a stronghold in advanced science. However, that is far from the case. Matt Damon revealed the truth behind this myth when he was filming The Martian with director Ridley Scott. Matthew McConaughey got his big break as a leading drama actor, thanks to his role as attorney Jake Brigance in A Time to Kill. It was Joel Schumacher’s second film adaptation of a John Grisham novel. Interestingly, the studio initially wanted a recognizable name in the role of the young lawyer. The director was among the few who believed McConaughey could pull off a leading role.

One particular story the Interstellar actor shared from the set about filming the most important scene suggests that he and Schumacher were destined to be collaborators for this project. McConaughey’s closing statement had the power to make or break the film, but it was a supernatural connection between the director and actor that helped nail the scene.

One particular story the Interstellar actor shared from the set about filming the most important scene suggests that he and Schumacher were destined to be collaborators for this project. McConaughey’s closing statement had the power to make or break the film, but it was a supernatural connection between the director and actor that helped nail the scene.

So much so, that during the making of A Time to Kill (1996), the Southern gentleman’s charm proved irresistible not just to one but two of his co-stars—Sandra Bullock and Ashley Judd. The Joel Schumacher-directed film, which grossed $152 million globally, became a pivotal moment in McConaughey’s career, not only professionally but also personally.

Over the decades, Christopher Nolan has hardly ever failed to bring to the table something truly epic and immersive, worthy of all the love, praise, and accolades it gets. Interstellar ranks among those very projects, as it perfectly blended the themes of space exploration and humanity’s quest to find new habitable planets while incorporating that emotional element into it all.

To say the least, the film has been as outstanding as could be asked for, as Nolan proved to be the best filmmaker for the project, understanding its vision immaculately. But the film wasn’t always supposed to be this way, for if Steven Spielberg had continued to head the piece, it would have resulted in a sci-fi including aliens, killer robots, and Chinese bases on other planets.

When Christopher Nolan got his hands on Interstellar, he didn’t just give Steven Spielberg’s script a few edits; he basically lit it on fire and started fresh. Spielberg’s warm, feel-good vibes? Gone. Nolan swapped them out for his signature brain-bending chaos, turning a straightforward sci-fi into an emotional rollercoaster wrapped in quantum physics.

Love it or hate it, Nolan’s version of Interstellar made sure no one left the theater without their mind blown — or their heart in pieces.

Why did Matt Damon reject 2 iconic roles? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Wondering why Matt Damon passed on these roles? “Well, Dark Knight was a small role that I was offered,” Damon casually explained. “I was headlining something else and couldn’t squeeze it in.” That “something else” ended up being a big deal, but The Dark Knight was about to change superhero cinema forever. And Matt? Well, he wasn’t part of that ride.
But wait, it gets juicier. Damon didn’t just miss out on Batman—he almost joined another iconic franchise. In a shocking twist, Damon admitted he passed on Avatar, which would’ve given him a sweet 10% cut of the box office.
That’s $250 million left on the table, and Matt? He’s not shy about it. “I’ve left more money on the table than any actor,” he said with a shrug. Ouch. So why would he...

Not many filmmakers can remake a 102-year-old film and still provide a fresh, interesting take. Yet, to nobody’s surprise, Robert Eggers does so with 2024’s Nosferatu. The film is already faring well at the box office, as well as critically (you can check out Bumbray’s glowing review Here) yet this movie has been shrouded in mystery. So, just like with Alien: Romulus, I’m taking a spoilery look at why this worked so well. Because sure, casting actors like Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin, and Nicholas Hoult will certainly help any movie out. But there’s one person that absolutely walks away with this film: Lily-Rose Depp.
Yeah, I’m sure you thought I was going to say Bill Skarsgård and his rendition of Nosferatu and we’ll surely get into that later but it’s Depp’s performance that anchors the film. She is truly spectacular and works as the heart and soul.

Was Cillian Murphy emotionally impacted after Interstellar? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Alright, let’s go full throttle, because Cillian Murphy isn’t here for the bland, generic interviews—he’s keeping it real and revealing his heart in the process.
In a chat with The Independent (via Hindustan Times), Murphy straight-up dropped that Interstellar is the one Christopher Nolan film he wishes he could’ve been in. Let that sink in. Not Inception, not The Dark Knight. Nope. It’s the 2014 sci-fi tearjerker about wormholes, time, and McConaughey crying in space.
But Murphy’s not mad about missing out. “I adore Interstellar just because I find it so emotional. I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart. I love watching his films when I’m not in them because you don’t have to freak...

Many have often criticized Hollywood biggies for living in a bubble, and while this argument is debatable, two stars who certainly are pretty well-versed in grounded reality are Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Having been pals since their childhood, the two have worked on many acclaimed features over the years, with their breakout success being Good Will Hunting.

But apart from excelling in showbiz, the two have proven to be very well acquainted with real-world issues, and they haven’t backed down from sharing their viewpoint on polarizing matters.
