My Favorite Movies

by antiwalkerthe1st | created - 12 Jun 2017 | updated - 9 months ago | Public

A list of movies that I personally adore and highly value. Keep in mind that some of the movies on this list that I rated with a higher score were placed lower than the ones that I rated with a lower score and vice versa. This list is purely subjective, and it has nothing to do with how much better I think a certain movie is compared to another.

1. Back to the Future (1985)

PG | 116 min | Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi

87 Metascore

Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown.

Director: Robert Zemeckis | Stars: Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover

Votes: 1,307,914 | Gross: $210.61M

7/10. Classic feel-good movie with an unrivaled amount of charm. The whole film feels like a sequence you'd probably experience in a dream. Only, it's an experience you'll likely never ever forget. It's like the precursor to Rick and Morty, which might explain why I love it so much.

2. The Matrix (1999)

R | 136 min | Action, Sci-Fi

73 Metascore

When a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.

Directors: Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving

Votes: 2,055,100 | Gross: $171.48M

8.25/10. A very rare case of style and substance working together to create one of the greatest Sci-Fi films ever conceived. The Matrix is one of the coolest and most enjoyable films ever made. It's very rewatchable, awesomely fun and so far ahead of its time that it puts most other great Sci-Fi flicks to shame.

3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

PG-13 | 201 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

94 Metascore

Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.

Director: Peter Jackson | Stars: Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom

Votes: 1,980,740 | Gross: $377.85M

8.3/10. A great end to a fantastic trilogy. I've personally never read the books, but I remember watching all 3 films as a kid and still loving every single one of them to this day. I honestly wish most epic high-fantasy films/TV shows were as epic as this movie was.

4. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

PG-13 | 178 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

92 Metascore

A meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.

Director: Peter Jackson | Stars: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean

Votes: 2,008,604 | Gross: $315.54M

8.15/10. The 2nd best installment in the legendary trilogy. Fantastic as a set-up film, and it still holds up so damn well even after 2 decades. It will probably be a long while before anything beats, much less rival LOTR as the go-to fantasy trilogy to binge through.

5. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (1997)

TV-MA | 87 min | Animation, Action, Drama

Concurrent theatrical ending of the TV series Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995).

Directors: Hideaki Anno, Kazuya Tsurumaki | Stars: Megumi Ogata, Megumi Hayashibara, Yûko Miyamura, Kotono Mitsuishi

Votes: 64,375

9.35/10. One of the most underrated films ever. Closest I've ever come to rating a movie with a perfect 10/10. It was very hard to describe what this film was like for me, as it was, true to its themes, subtle to the core. It was insane and yet strangely euphoric. A real mindfuck if I've ever seen one. I love this film, not because it was conventionally great but because it was a bizarre experience that no other film or TV series has ever come close to replicating.

6. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

PG-13 | 149 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

68 Metascore

The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans

Votes: 1,204,627 | Gross: $678.82M

7/10. An overrated film, but that doesn't stop me from loving almost every second of it. Even though it's a superhero film, the main highlight of Infinity War was actually its main villain, who I genuinely believe to be one of the all-time greatest movie villains ever put on screen.

7. Parasite (2019)

R | 132 min | Drama, Thriller

97 Metascore

Greed and class discrimination threaten the newly-formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.

Director: Bong Joon Ho | Stars: Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-sik

Votes: 961,036 | Gross: $53.37M

8.8/10. One of the greatest foreign films ever made. Parasite is a film with lots of nuances, clever uses of literary devices and is an incredible social commentary that relies on showing (not telling) its audience through the use of clues without having to spoonfeed them. It's a film that you can re-watch constantly without ever getting bored of and is something that makes for a great topic of discussion among fans, which is why I love it so damn much.

8. Oldboy (2003)

R | 120 min | Action, Drama, Mystery

78 Metascore

After being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must track down his captor in five days.

Director: Park Chan-wook | Stars: Choi Min-sik, Yoo Ji-tae, Kang Hye-jeong, Kim Byeong-Ok

Votes: 636,463 | Gross: $0.71M

8.3/10. 2nd Most Favorite Korean film. Oldboy is a great film that has pretty much everything you could ever ask for. Great cinematography, incredible twists, well-written characters and even an open-ended conclusion. I freaking love everything about this film.

9. City of God (2002)

R | 130 min | Crime, Drama

79 Metascore

In the slums of Rio, two kids' paths diverge as one struggles to become a photographer and the other a kingpin.

Directors: Fernando Meirelles, Kátia Lund | Stars: Alexandre Rodrigues, Leandro Firmino, Matheus Nachtergaele, Phellipe Haagensen

Votes: 801,663 | Gross: $7.56M

8/10. Great for its dialogue. Feels like a Tarantino-esque movie. Awesome action and characters you care about. Very enjoyable even if it was difficult to watch.

10. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

PG-13 | 179 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

87 Metascore

While Frodo and Sam edge closer to Mordor with the help of the shifty Gollum, the divided fellowship makes a stand against Sauron's new ally, Saruman, and his hordes of Isengard.

Director: Peter Jackson | Stars: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom

Votes: 1,785,244 | Gross: $342.55M

8/10. Worst of the best and yet still so damn good. LOTR films just hit different. The irresistible charm is what makes it just as special as the rest of the trilogy.

11. Donnie Darko (2001)

R | 113 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

88 Metascore

After narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.

Director: Richard Kelly | Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Mary McDonnell, Holmes Osborne

Votes: 850,562 | Gross: $1.48M

8.3/10. Aside from the film being purposefully puzzling, it's also a great social commentary that is packed with good themes, a great main character, and an incredibly well thought-out story. It's a film that is full of depth and subtleties. A film that you just have to watch more than once.

12. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

R | 180 min | Biography, Comedy, Crime

75 Metascore

Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey

Votes: 1,584,947 | Gross: $116.90M

7.7/10. Some of the most fun I've ever had watching a film. It's not great because it glorifies what Jordan Belfort and his friends/colleagues did, but because it exposes the world for what it really is. It doesn't give a crap about morality. It doesn't care about being just. It simply portrays the rise and fall of a former stockbroker and does so in one of the most entertaining ways possible.

13. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

PG | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

82 Metascore

After the Rebel Alliance are overpowered by the Empire, Luke Skywalker begins his Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued across the galaxy by Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Director: Irvin Kershner | Stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams

Votes: 1,380,932 | Gross: $290.48M

8.25/10. The best entry of the original trilogy and in my opinion, the absolute pinnacle of the entire franchise. No matter how good a future Star Wars entry is, it will always be scrutinized to see if it can even match this, much less compare to it. It's an all-time classic for a good reason.

14. Hot Fuzz (2007)

R | 121 min | Action, Comedy, Mystery

81 Metascore

An overachieving London police sergeant is transferred to a village where the easygoing officers object to his fervor for regulations, all while a string of grisly murders strikes the town.

Director: Edgar Wright | Stars: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy

Votes: 535,602 | Gross: $23.64M

8/10. My favorite comedy film of all-time. Never took itself too seriously, which was a problem that Shaun of the Dead suffered from at some point, and this was what made it that much more enjoyable. Great screenplay, incredible usage of foreshadowing, very clever in its attempts at humor, and a fucking fantastic parody on its own. This is what comedy films should strive to be.

15. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)

PG | 121 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

90 Metascore

Luke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader.

Director: George Lucas | Stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness

Votes: 1,450,801 | Gross: $322.74M

8/10. The one that started it all. Freakin' incredible as a set-up film for the original trilogy, and the worldbuilding is absolutely brilliant. The story might be very simple and straightforward, but it is executed beautifully. Arguably the best Star Wars film/entry, and I could easily see why one would think so.

16. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

PG | 142 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

82 Metascore

Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their third year of study, where they delve into the mystery surrounding an escaped prisoner who poses a dangerous threat to the young wizard.

Director: Alfonso Cuarón | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Richard Griffiths

Votes: 692,084 | Gross: $249.36M

7.35/10. Arguably the best Harry Potter film. Felt more unique compared to the others. And while it may not have been the darkest film in tone, it didn't need to be, as it seemed to find a good level of balance that the future Harry Potter films were lacking.

17. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

PG-13 | 130 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

85 Metascore

Harry, Ron, and Hermione search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord as the final battle rages on at Hogwarts.

Director: David Yates | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon

Votes: 949,206 | Gross: $381.01M

6.5/10. Not the best Harry Potter film but definitely a great ending to the series. It may have felt very Hollywoodized, but I can't deny how amazing it was to watch in theatres.

18. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

PG-13 | 138 min | Action, Adventure, Family

71 Metascore

With their warning about Lord Voldemort's return scoffed at, Harry and Dumbledore are targeted by the Wizard authorities as an authoritarian bureaucrat slowly seizes power at Hogwarts.

Director: David Yates | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Brendan Gleeson

Votes: 633,766 | Gross: $292.00M

7/10. Umbridge is easily the best and arguably most memorable villain in the entire franchise, surpassing even the likes of Voldemort and Bellatrix. She definitely made the film harder to watch, but because of her, the climax is made all the more satisfying as a result.

19. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

PG-13 | 157 min | Adventure, Family, Fantasy

81 Metascore

Harry Potter finds himself competing in a hazardous tournament between rival schools of magic, but he is distracted by recurring nightmares.

Director: Mike Newell | Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Eric Sykes

Votes: 682,050 | Gross: $290.01M

7/10. This is where the series finally decided to mature or in other words, hit puberty. It really sets the tone for the rest of the series to follow, especially with You-Know-Who making his return. Would've potentially been my favorite film in the franchise had it been slower paced, however.

20. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Comedy, Fantasy

69 Metascore

In a magically realistic version of Toronto, a young man must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes one by one in order to win her heart.

Director: Edgar Wright | Stars: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick

Votes: 465,646 | Gross: $31.49M

7/10. Style over substance, except it actually has a valid reason for being that way. It's definitely not great as an adaptation of the comics, but as a standalone film, this is quite good for what it is. It's kind of like the One Punch Man of movies. You watch it just to have fun and not really give a crap about anything else. In fact, it's like playing a video game in the form of a movie, which this film does better than almost any other movie I've watched that tried to pull off something similar (which they have failed miserably at).

21. Toy Story 3 (2010)

G | 103 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

92 Metascore

The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.

Director: Lee Unkrich | Stars: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Ned Beatty

Votes: 893,027 | Gross: $415.00M

7.25/10. Loved this as a kid. Still do as an adult. Darkest film in the franchise but also an excellent sense of adventure that the other films came only somewhat close to matching. Best film in the series in my opinion, with the only other Toy Story film that could contest it being the first.

22. The Dark Knight (2008)

PG-13 | 152 min | Action, Crime, Drama

84 Metascore

When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine

Votes: 2,873,130 | Gross: $534.86M

8.25/10. Somewhat overrated but still a great film regardless. Ledger's performance as Joker is truly otherworldly and is just so utterly compelling as an antagonist. He has so much substantial value that he ends up unintentionally making the other characters look almost weak in comparison, despite how well-written almost everyone is in general. The Dark Knight is easily one of the best psychological cat and mouse movies I've ever watched and is also one of, if not the most quotable.

23. Memento (2000)

R | 113 min | Mystery, Thriller

83 Metascore

A man with short-term memory loss attempts to track down his wife's murderer.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, Mark Boone Junior

Votes: 1,323,817 | Gross: $25.54M

8/10. Basically Donnie Darko but without the social commentary and saving the world plotline. The editing in this film is fucking genius, and I don't think it would've been nearly as good had it been completely linear. A classic mind-fuck!

24. Kung Fu Hustle (2004)

R | 99 min | Action, Comedy, Fantasy

78 Metascore

In Shanghai, China in the 1940s, a wannabe gangster aspires to join the notorious "Axe Gang" while residents of a housing complex exhibit extraordinary powers in defending their turf.

Director: Stephen Chow | Stars: Stephen Chow, Wah Yuen, Qiu Yuen, Siu-Lung Leung

Votes: 150,948 | Gross: $17.11M

7.7/10. Hilarious, entertaining, whimsical... timeless. Exactly what a great comedy action Kung Fu movie should be. Contains lots of subtle (and not so subtle references) to works from the past including but not limited to Kung Fu action movies, wuxia works from The Buddhist Palm and Six Finger Lyre Demon films, etc. It's like Dragon Ball but with intentionally crappy CGI. Like live action anime, but made with passion and respect. Sometimes, all you need for a movie to succeed where others have failed is nothing but pure, unadulterated fun and a hint of self-awareness to remind us all that it's not always about them, but us.

25. Train to Busan (2016)

Not Rated | 118 min | Action, Horror, Thriller

73 Metascore

While a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan.

Director: Yeon Sang-ho | Stars: Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an

Votes: 259,137 | Gross: $2.13M

6.8/10. Favorite zombie film. It's a unique spin on Hollywood's zombie movies that have grown very stale. Feels better done than most of them combined. Has some detestable clichés in the form of characters and a few undesirable concepts added into it but is otherwise surprisingly realistic and executed exceptionally.

26. Cast Away (2000)

PG-13 | 143 min | Adventure, Drama, Romance

74 Metascore

A FedEx executive undergoes a physical and emotional transformation after crash landing on a deserted island.

Director: Robert Zemeckis | Stars: Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt, Paul Sanchez, Lari White

Votes: 639,205 | Gross: $233.63M

8/10. Favorite survival film. It's more than just a long-winded advertisement of FedEx. It's actually very well-crafted. The fact that it made me emotional in ways I never thought was possible says a lot about how much I love it.

27. A Taxi Driver (2017)

Not Rated | 137 min | Action, Drama, History

69 Metascore

A widowed father and taxi driver who drives a German reporter from Seoul to Gwangju to cover the 1980 uprising, soon finds himself regretting his decision after being caught in the violence around him.

Director: Hun Jang | Stars: Song Kang-ho, Thomas Kretschmann, Yoo Hae-jin, Ryu Jun-Yeol

Votes: 31,310 | Gross: $1.53M

8/10. Powerful and ultimately bittersweet. Haven't seen many films commemorate an unknown hero better than A Taxi Driver has. I'm also glad that South Korea was actually willing to show its attempts at its historical injustices instead of repressing them. They seem to have balls made of titanium steel.

28. Logan (2017)

R | 137 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

77 Metascore

In a future where mutants are nearly extinct, an elderly and weary Logan leads a quiet life. But when Laura, a mutant child pursued by scientists, comes to him for help, he must get her to safety.

Director: James Mangold | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook

Votes: 832,256 | Gross: $226.28M

7.7/10. Far more down-to-earth than the other solo Wolverine films. Stakes finally felt high for once. Very gut-wrenching and emotional. All around an incredible watch.

29. Raw (2016)

R | 99 min | Drama, Horror

81 Metascore

A young woman, studying to be a vet, develops a craving for human flesh.

Director: Julia Ducournau | Stars: Garance Marillier, Ella Rumpf, Rabah Nait Oufella, Laurent Lucas

Votes: 89,206 | Gross: $0.51M

7.8/10. Fucked up film but not necessarily in a bad way. Amazing cinematography and great plot twists. Kept me very entertained from start to finish. One of the best cannibal films I've watched that isn't Silence of the Lambs.

30. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

PG | 117 min | Animation, Action, Adventure

87 Metascore

Teen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities.

Directors: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman | Stars: Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali

Votes: 672,485 | Gross: $190.24M

7.35/10. One of my favorite Spider-Man films. Feels original for once, and it has so much charm that it's hard not to love. Overall, one of the best movies Sony has ever produced.

31. Despicable Me (2010)

PG | 95 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

72 Metascore

Gru, a criminal mastermind, adopts three orphans as pawns to carry out the biggest heist in history. His life takes an unexpected turn when the little girls see the evildoer as their potential father.

Directors: Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud | Stars: Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews

Votes: 584,728 | Gross: $251.51M

6.3/10. Somewhat of a guilty pleasure. I do, however, genuinely adore this film. It's lacking in a bit of depth, but the lovable adventures of Gru and his "children" along with his development as a character make it one of my favorite overall movies. It's like Megamind but a little more charismatic.

32. The Truman Show (1998)

PG | 103 min | Comedy, Drama

90 Metascore

An insurance salesman discovers his whole life is actually a reality TV show.

Director: Peter Weir | Stars: Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Noah Emmerich

Votes: 1,197,652 | Gross: $125.62M

8/10. Truly a good film. Has really simple themes that are well-realized and the idea behind the premise and how the story unfolds is very unprecedented among Hollywood movies. You don't often get movies that are this original.

33. The Room (2003)

R | 99 min | Drama

9 Metascore

In San Francisco, an amiable banker's seemingly perfect life is turned upside down when his deceitful fiancée embarks on an affair with his best friend.

Director: Tommy Wiseau | Stars: Tommy Wiseau, Juliette Danielle, Greg Sestero, Philip Haldiman

Votes: 95,067 | Gross: $0.22M

1.6/10. Prime example of those so-bad-it's-good movies. It might even be the greatest movie that fits into that niche category. Tom Wiseau's performance is to thank for this horrifying masterpiece.

34. Spirited Away (2001)

PG | 125 min | Animation, Adventure, Family

96 Metascore

During her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.

Director: Hayao Miyazaki | Stars: Daveigh Chase, Suzanne Pleshette, Miyu Irino, Rumi Hiiragi

Votes: 850,364 | Gross: $10.06M

8/10. All-time classic. Tad bit overrated but still a great watch nonetheless. I don't often come across animated films that convey a bizarre sense of adventure (that is highly akin to experiencing a "fever dream") as masterfully as Spirited Away. Highly recommend this to anyone, honestly. It's kinda like the Japanese version of Wizard of Oz but better.

35. Good Will Hunting (1997)

R | 126 min | Drama, Romance

71 Metascore

Will Hunting, a janitor at M.I.T., has a gift for mathematics, but needs help from a psychologist to find direction in his life.

Director: Gus Van Sant | Stars: Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Stellan Skarsgård

Votes: 1,069,377 | Gross: $138.43M

7.5/10. Very straightforward with its approach. Doesn't need to rely on anything fancy at all to still be profound. It's a character-driven film with well-rounded characters and a great script. It's also a gateway film for people who are probably thinking of getting into psychology.

36. John Wick (2014)

R | 101 min | Action, Crime, Thriller

68 Metascore

An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters who killed his dog and stole his car.

Director: Chad Stahelski | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Willem Dafoe

Votes: 739,737 | Gross: $43.04M

7/10. Simple and straight to the point. Doesn't waste time beating around the bush. I love how John Wick's revenge arc started because of his dog's death and his car being stolen. Makes the character and his actions feel much more relatable. That being said, I love its mesmerizing action sequences and its attention to detail. The makers of this film really did their homework, it seems.

37. Superbad (2007)

R | 113 min | Comedy

76 Metascore

Two co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.

Director: Greg Mottola | Stars: Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader

Votes: 633,321 | Gross: $121.46M

7/10. One of the greatest teen comedies ever made. Has actual depth given to its main characters and is more than just a simple comedy film. Endlessly entertaining and never once unbearable to watch. It was way ahead of its time, judging by how brilliantly its aged.

38. Rush Hour (1998)

PG-13 | 98 min | Action, Comedy, Crime

61 Metascore

A loyal and dedicated Hong Kong Inspector teams up with a reckless and loudmouthed L.A.P.D. detective to rescue the Chinese Consul's kidnapped daughter, while trying to arrest a dangerous crime lord along the way.

Director: Brett Ratner | Stars: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Ken Leung, Tom Wilkinson

Votes: 294,943 | Gross: $141.15M

6/10. Another awesome action-comedy (mostly comedy) hybrid that is just out to have as much fun as possible. Never expected Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan to be as good of a comedic duo as they were in this film. They have such good chemistry.

39. Falling Down (1993)

R | 113 min | Action, Crime, Drama

56 Metascore

An ordinary man frustrated with the various flaws he sees in society begins to psychotically and violently lash out against them.

Director: Joel Schumacher | Stars: Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall, Barbara Hershey, Rachel Ticotin

Votes: 206,802 | Gross: $40.90M

7.45/10. Joker before Joker. A social commentary that tackles themes that are still relevant to this day. One of my favorites because of the main character.

40. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

PG-13 | 127 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

83 Metascore

Peter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a former brilliant scientist named Otto Octavius.

Director: Sam Raimi | Stars: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina, James Franco

Votes: 709,422 | Gross: $373.59M

7/10. Easily the best Spider-Man film in Sam Reimi's trilogy and also my favorite. Love how it goes through Peter's internal struggles and the epic scenes that ensue throughout this film. Tobey Maguire will forever be the best live action Spider-Man.

41. Perfect Blue (1997)

R | 81 min | Animation, Crime, Drama

67 Metascore

A pop singer gives up her career to become an actress, but she slowly goes insane when she starts being stalked by an obsessed fan and what seems to be a ghost of her past.

Director: Satoshi Kon | Stars: Junko Iwao, Rica Matsumoto, Shinpachi Tsuji, Masaaki Ôkura

8.5/10. Classic mind-fuck movie that delves beyond superficial concepts and does so much more with its premise than the average psychological film. Not necessarily my favorite type of genre, but still an amazing movie. Crazy how well this has aged, considering the current times we live in.

7.25/10. Very unique. It's a pretty interesting, if not refreshing take on the cat-and-mouse genre. I like that the villain was the one who was chased because he was given plenty of chances and not necessarily because he couldn't get caught. Great ending as well.

8/10. Amazing character chemistry between Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. A bit confusing at first but only gets clearer over time. One of the most beautifully artistic yet simplistic portrayals of a relationship that was never meant to be. Easily one of Jim Carrey's best works along with The Truman Show.
