After stepping down as working royals, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aired out some of the famous family’s dirty laundry in TV specials, podcasts, their Netflix docuseries, and the duke’s memoir. One of the interviews that garnered the most headlines was the couple’s sit-down with former talk show host Oprah Winfrey. In it, the Duchess of Sussex brought up the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton).
Now, something Meghan said during the interview that was not shown until after the broadcast initially aired has resurfaced online. The clip has drawn anger directed at the former Suits star because she referenced a rude nickname for Kate.

Henry Winkler may have been the breakout on ‘70s sitcom Happy Days, but he was far from having his own on a regular basis. Hidden behind the leather jacket, motorcycle and jukebox-whacking, Winkler was struggling with dyslexia, something that greatly affected his work and confidence.
As detailed in his upcoming book, Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond (out on October 31st), Henry Winkler said that it took him until he was already on Happy Days to even realize he had a learning disorder. In an excerpt made available by People, Winkler writes, “I didn’t find out I was severely dyslexic until I was thirty-one. For all the years before that, I was the kid who couldn’t read, couldn’t spell, couldn’t even begin to do algebra or geometry or even basic arithmetic…Even in the midst of Happy Days, at the height of my fame and success,...

Here’s some news that might even cheer up Oscar the Grouch: The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has created two new Emmy categories for puppetry performance and puppet design/styling. Both awards will be handed out at this year’s second-ever Children’s & Family Emmys.
“Historically, puppetry performers would enter in the live action performer categories,” said NATAS CEO Adam Sharp, in announcing the new competition. “So, if you were the handler of a puppet, then you would go up against a lead actor or lead actress, and that created for some odd pairings. But managing a puppet is a very different kind of performance than a regular live action performance.”
Back when children’s programming was awarded at the Daytime Emmys, it was usually in the “outstanding principal performance in a children’s program” category (which went through several name changes over the years). In 2021, for example,...

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham joined “Jesse Watters Primetime” to torch President Joe Biden, with the notion he is not respected among foreign leaders.
On Tuesday, Biden skipped the Heads of State and Government Dinner at the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. When pressed for the reason behind his absence, an official cited Biden’s heavy workload saying he “has four full days of official business and is preparing for a big speech tomorrow in addition to another day at the summit.”
This did not go over well with Ingraham, who argued that world leaders believe Biden to be a “figurehead president.”
“We should not really be surprised that all these world leaders look past Biden,” Ingraham said.
“He is not running the country,” she continued. “He is not running anything.”

Months after “Jury Duty” unexpectedly stole America’s heart, the Amazon Freevee continued bucking its underdog status by landing four primetime Emmy nominations, a success EP Dave Bernad attributes to the show’s uplifting moments of humanity.
“As we went into Covid, we were in a dark time and the idea was trying to make something hopeful, and specifically part funny that had heart and, most importantly, that highlighted the hero’s journey and the wonderful humanity [that’s] out there,” Bernad told TheWrap. “I think maybe that’s what people responded to in the show, especially in this moment.”
The series nabbed two big scores for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for James Marsden, as well as nominations for Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series, cementing Amazon Freevee as first free AVOD service to receive a major series Primetime Emmy nomination.

The Television Academy recognized 34 performers of color across acting and reality hosting Primetime Emmy nomination categories, a figure that is +3 from last year’s 31, and higher than 2019 when there were only 26 non-Caucasian actors and reality hosts.
2021 continues to hold the record for diverse Emmy nominees at 49, that year propelled by nominees for Disney+’s Hamilton movie musical and HBO’s fantasy drama, Lovecraft Country.
There were only two Emmy categories this year which were completely devoid of nominees from a diverse background: Drama Lead Actress and Comedy Lead Actor. And there were some major overlooks by TV Academy voters including Diego Luna, the star of Andor which nabbed a Best Drama Series nomination and Selena Gomez, the star of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building which landed a comedy series nod.

It’s a good thing that the Television Academy never scrapped the Television Movie Emmy category because original streaming movies stepped up in a major way this morning in the Primetime noms.
Streaming movies notched four of the five Outstanding Movie Primetime Emmy nomination slots including Disney+’s most watched movie ever Hocus Pocus 2, Disney’s Hulu movies Prey and Fire Island, as well as Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. In recent years, there’s been chatter that the Television Academy was pondering a nix of the movie category, but they’ve held on to it, and obviously streamers are delivering product to it.
Even more amazing, streaming movies grabbed three out of the six writing noms in the limited-anthology series/movie slot: Prey, Fire Island (Joel Kim Booster) and Weird: Al the Yankovic Story (Weird Al and Eric Appel).

Fox News’ lineup changes will shift two familiar faces, Jesse Watters and Greg Gutfeld, to primetime — a move that is bound to secure a ratings bump while ushering in a new brand of extremism that media experts warn could be a “liability” for the network in the wake of the Dominion Voting Systems settlement.

Fox News’ Jesse Watters is having a busy week, displaying all the talent that has led him to being the host of “Jesse Watters Primetime” and chief instigator on “The Five.”
Here’s a quick list. (1) He pissed on helping the homeless: “You can’t subsidize antisocial behavior you have to stigmatize it. These are people that have failed in life and they’re on their deathbed.” 2. He casually explained that Donald Trump was just “sifting through [documents] and determining which were personal and which were presidential.” 3. Lachlan Murdoch declined to comment on Wednesday about what’s next for Fox News’ programming after the shocking ouster of Tucker Carlson, but the Fox Corporation CEO predicted that the conservative channel would do just fine without him.
“Our program decisions are made with the long-term interests of the Fox News brand and the Fox News business,” Murdoch said during MoffettNathanson’s Technology, Media & Telecom Conference. “So we make those decisions really thinking broadly or long-term in terms of what’s the best thing for the company … And we’ve done it before, right? Bill O’Reilly was a superstar, Megyn Kelly was a superstar, Glenn Beck was a superstar and we’re able to move forward with programming decisions that ultimately result in long-term growth and profitability of the business.”
Carlson and Fox parted ways on April 24, shortly after the company settled a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.

CNN Mornings anchor Don Lemon is out at CNN.
The anchor shared a post on his social media accounts saying that he was informed by his agent on Monday morning that he was being terminated.
“I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
Lemon when on to say, “At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. In one of the most significant programming moves since joining CNN as its CEO nearly a year ago, Chris Licht has hired CBS Mornings co-anchor Gayle King and NBA on TNT analyst Charles Barkley to host a weekly primetime program, to be called King Charles.
The show was announced on TNT as part of the channel’s NBA playoff pregame coverage.
“What I think is so great for the both of us is that it is live TV,” King said on the program. “Whatever happens, happens.”
King Charles will be an hour long and begin running on CNN later this year and into 2024. King will continue to work for CBS in the mornings, and Barkley will keep his duties at Turner Sports.
Barkley said he was not intrigued about the idea of hosting a show for CNN until King’s name was mentioned. King, similarly, said she “wasn’t looking for another job.

And while the Sussexes don’t seem to have a problem discussing it, Kate does.
Now a royal expert is explaining why the princess refuses to talk about Meghan “no matter how often anyone tries to pick the scab.”

For nearly three decades, DirecTV had the key to a perfect Sunday for fans of NFL football, as the satellite TV provider exclusively held the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket. The package allows viewers to watch every single game going on that day, rather than just the in-market games that are usually pretty limited. But the times began a changin' in December 2022 when YouTube won the rights to Sunday Ticket beginning with the 2023/2024 season. Now, one of the biggest questions with the big change has been answered, as YouTube has unveiled pricing for the season. Without hyperbole, it is a crushing disappointment for anyone who might have hoped this would level the playing field.
According to a press release, NFL Sunday Ticket via YouTube TV will have a base price of $449 for the season. For those who already subscribe to YouTube TV, which offers live TV starting at $64.99 per month,...

The NFL’s Sunday Ticket is making its historic move to YouTube starting next season after Google’s rich, seven-year deal with the league. And unless gridiron fans act soon to take advantage of YouTube’s special early-bird pricing, they’ll have to pay more for the out-of-market games NFL package than when it was carried by DirecTV.
YouTube announced pricing for NFL Sunday Ticket, which is available as an add-on to YouTube TV subscribers as well as to anyone else in the U.S. through the standalone YouTube Primetime Channels. Starting Tuesday (April 11) through June 6, 2023, the Google-owned video platform is offering discounts for Sunday Ticket packages — knocking $100 off the regular full-season prices.
The regular pricing of Sunday Ticket for YouTube TV customers will be $349 for the 2023 season, higher than DirecTV’s $293.94 price tag for the 2022 season. And if you don’t have YouTube TV, you’ll pay even more.

While “Curb Your Enthusiasm” fans rejoiced at the news that Larry David was making a 12th season of the HBO comedy series, they may want to savor the episodes once they drop. The show might be coming to an end after this next season.
“Curb” writer and producer Jon Hayman shared a tweet (which has since been deleted) in which he captured a photo of David “shooting the last scene of the last episode of the final season” of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Richard Lewis, who returned for Season 12 after a health-related absence from Season 11 save for one episode, similarly tweeted “goodbye” sentiments last week, saying it was “hard to believe” they started the show in 2000.
HBO declined to comment.

Fox News topped March ratings, but all of the major news networks saw double digit erosion from the same month in 2022.
CNN saw some of the steepest declines, with it primetime audience down 61% from March of 2022, and dropping 73% in the 25-54 demo.
One factor: The lack of a dominant news story. The Ukraine war dominated the news cycle in the same period a year ago, and CNN actually saw a viewership spike back then.
But the network has been trying to retool its 9 Pm Et hour, scheduling special townhalls and one-on-one interviews. The network has said that the programming is a bit of an experiment that has not seen a full promotional push, while sources say it has been talking to figures like Gayle King and Charles Barkley about hosting a weekly show in the slot. The network also is launching an overhaul of its daytime lineup next month.

Actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke sustained minor injuries after a single-vehicle car accident in Malibu, California.

There’s a lot that’s happening in the galaxy far, far away—but all of it, for now, is happening directly on Disney+. The Kathleen Kennedy-led Lucasfilms shingle has found itself unable to make the jump to hyperspace and get a new feature before cameras.
Deadline has reported that the untitled project intended to come next in the franchise just lost its two writers, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. The announced director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still on board. The outlet suggests that more details about the film were to have been announced at the Star Wars Celebration pep rally in London next month, but with the amount of flux currently going on behind the scenes, there might be less information to share.
Nevertheless, Obaid-Chinoy’s film is still poised to be the follow-up to J.J. Abrams’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” the last Star Wars property to play in movie theaters.

Over the years, Beatles fans have enjoyed a wealth of programming that they can watch about the band. Documentaries have been made about each member of the band, and series like Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back follow the band through archival footage. Here are several films and series that fans of the Beatles should watch.

Each Gunsmoke episode aimed to transport its audience into Dodge City along with its vibrant, likable cast of adult Western characters. However, it wasn’t always the same set that viewers became familiar with that established the territory that U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon sought to maintain justice in. Gunsmoke Season 1 Episode 26 looked quite different due to a history that placed it ahead of the pilot.

According to IMDb, Gunsmoke Season 1 Episode 26 was actually the first episode ever shot, intended to be the pilot. It was shown as the 26th segment of the first season, but “Matt Gets It” aired as the pilot on Sept. 10, 1955.
The Charles Marquis Warren-directed Gunsmoke pilot followed James Arness’ Matt after taking a nearly-fatal wound in pursuit of a skillful gunman named Dan Grat (Paul Richards). Doc Adams...

(Welcome to Best Actor Ever, an ongoing series where we explore the careers and performances of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen.)
We're only six articles into this series, and I've already violated my critic's creed by furthering one of the most egregious filmmaking fallacies in existence. While I stand wholeheartedly behind my selections of Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, Cate Blanchett, Robert De Niro, and Viola Davis, these artists are venerated for capital-a acting. They play serious, complicated people beset by demons both personal and societal. Critics expect them to dazzle us, to shed inspiring or unsettling light on the human condition. For too many years, they did not expect them to make us laugh.
When Streep, after a decade-plus of electrifying dramatic performances, appeared in the 1989 dark comedy "She-Devil" opposite TV superstar Roseanne Barr, many critics felt she was slumming. Ditto De Niro in Martin Brest's 1988 buddy-comedy "Midnight Run.

Jellysmack is known for assisting creators as they expand to new platforms. For its next move, the self-proclaimed “global creator company” has its eye on a buzzy form of distribution: Free, ad-supported television, or Fast. In order to get its partners on more screens, Jellysmack has teamed up with Roku to launch a pair of Fast channels.
The two entertainment destinations, titled Hello Inspo and Mysteria, are now available on devices that support the Roku Channel. The former hub features lifestyle programming from some of Jellysmack’s top creator partners. “If it’s Biden against Trump, Biden will win – that’s a good bet,” Bill Maher predicted to Jake Tapper tonight on CNN of a potential 2024 showdown between the 2020 rivals.
“I think he’s done the job perfectly fine .. generally, he’s restored normality,” the Real Time with Bill Maher host said of the 46th Potus in the first edition of the CNN Primetime on Tuesday. “I don’t mind at all that he’s 82, 84, 86,” Maher added, taking on one of the top Joe Biden critiques. “We have an important decision to make, go to the elders,” the comedian went on to say with a swing at a society that doesn’t value the aged – though Maher admitted Biden was no “James Brown at the Apollo.”
The sometime barbed comedian made a point of noting that if octogenarian Biden isn’t at the top of the Democrats’ ’24 ticket, 76-year old...

While it’s bad news for fans, and possibly for HBO, “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong told The New Yorker magazine that the upcoming Season 4 of the hit series will be its last. The “King Lear”-esque satirical drama set in the world of the one percent has been a water-cooler juggernaut since the conclusion of “Game of Thrones,” with a combined 30 Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy nominations since its inception, and 13 wins – including ones for actors Jeremy Strong, Matthew Macfadyen, and Cherry Jones as well Best Drama Series crowns for its second and third seasons. It has also had five wins off of nine Golden Globe nominations, including ones for Strong, Brian Cox, and Sarah Snook.
Armstrong said about his decision to go out on top that “there’s a promise in the title of ‘Succession.’ I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been...

CNN may be getting ready to take a new swing at fixing its long-running 9 p.m. problem.
CNN is getting ready to launch a new show in that hour called “CNN Primetime,” which is described with a logline that says, “Join CNN’s top anchors for special events and unique conversations about the issues that matter the most.”
Both the show title and the programming descriptions are on display in interactive schedules that subscribers to cable and satellite services can call up to examine programming options. On Thursday, CNN is set to offer a “CNN Town Hall.” Another entry describes a one on one interview between a newsmaker and anchor Don Lemon. A person familiar with the matter says the details were inadvertently uploaded to cable systems and that only the town hall is a go for next week. A launch of “CNN Primetime” may not take place for some time,...

Paramount Global did not end 2022 on a high note — unless you still only care about streaming-subscriber growth, that is.
With soaring costs, overall Paramount operating income sunk 93 percent in the fourth quarter, and the company whiffed pretty badly on earnings. That’s all going to change, Paramount Global chief Bob Bakish said on the subsequent conference call — just give him and CFO Naveen Chopra another (bad) year. The two then laid out a whole bunch of ways they plan to scale the giant mountain (of entertainment) in front of them.
Bakish told investors that 2023 will see the company’s “peak investment” in streaming. That, plus ongoing advertising woes everywhere, is going to hurt the bottom line, he acknowledged — but Paramount will weather this storm through “scale” and “flexibility.” And franchises — my God, the franchises.
In 2024, Bakish foresees “meaningful total-company earnings growth” and “a return to positive free cash flow.” Below...

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.
As far as non true crime offerings go, the third and final season of Hulu...
