A recurring, albeit minor, critique regarding the near-flawless first season of Netflix’s sumptuous historical drama The Crown is that the now multi-award-winning series lacked any serious perforation – especially when it came to chiseling away at the monarchical members’ seemingly impenetrable personal lives.
A ridiculously lavish serial, featuring a steadfast ensemble delivering formidable performances from start to finish, earning John Lithgow (Winston Churchill) a Primetime Emmy and Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II) a Golden Globe for their efforts, The Crown’s first season was a deluge of pomp and circumstance and enchanting personalities that made for highly watchable TV. However, some found creator Peter Morgan’s initial sculpting of the Monarchy more ideal for the powers that be as the royal family were more so seen, rather than heard.
Triumphantly, in its second season, The Crown does away with deference and protocol, unspooling the tightly coiled yarns of several of...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the first two seasons of “Stranger Things.”]
“Stranger Things” isn’t afraid to kill off certain expendable characters, but in Season 2, the show almost bumped off one beloved person even earlier. While fans were horrified to see nerdy good guy Bob (Sean Astin) become a snack for a pack of hungry demodogs in the penultimate episode, the Duffer Brothers had actually considered a different storyline in which he would’ve died much earlier… and at the hands of someone he knew.
On the Netflix after-show “Beyond Stranger Things,” the Duffers revealed that originally, Will Byers (Noah Schnapps) was going to become gradually evil as he was possessed, be fully evil by Episode 4, and then kill someone midway through the season.

“He was going to kill Bob,” Matt Duffer said, adding that it would’ve been the Mind Flayer working through Will. Poor Bob.

There are many questions I was expecting to ask of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. How have Nintendo expanded beyond the increasingly regimented boundaries of their second flagship franchise? How will our hero, Link, fit into a world of Witchers and Far Cries, which have perfected their open worlds over the past decade? There was one question, however, I was not expecting to ask: Is this the greatest video game ever made? For a hundred-hour game, the broader story is simple. You, Link, wake up after a century of stasis, to find that the world of Hyrule has fallen to calamity – namely, Calamity Ganon. Hyrule Castle has been subsumed by his swirling horror, and you are asked (by a mysterious Old Man, of course) to make your way there to find Princess Zelda. Along the way, Link must re-gather his memories. Lots of people seem to remember him,...

Jem Cohen‘s (Museum Hours, Counting) new documentary, World Without End (No Reported Incidents), will be released in the U.S. by Grasshopper Film early next year. From the press release:
Quite close to London, but for many, a million miles away, Southend-on-Sea is a town along the Thames estuary. Jem Cohen’s new documentary, World Without End (No Reported Incidents), is a portrait of this place – everyday streets, everyday birds, unflagging tides, mud, and sky. But it is also about humanity and history, about prize-winning Indian curries, an encyclopedic universe of hats, and a nearly lost world of proto-punk music.

Princess Leia as Alexander Hamilton. Stitch donning Jayne’s cunning hat. Belle getting her nose out of a book to join Doctor Who in his Tardis. These are all beautifully rendered imaginings of Massachusetts-based artist Karen Hallion. Her work includes art nouveau takes on Galadriel, Leia, and Labyrinth’s Sarah, a Norman Rockwell-inspired tribute to Firefly’s Kaylee, and a series featuring the Tardis greeting Disney princesses and other fairy tale characters. Karen’s art is available on prints, notecards, and often on T-shirts on sites like TeeFury and Threadless. Also among her work is a Spirited Away-inspired kimono for fangirl fashion line Her Universe. Last month Karen was at San Diego Comic-Con, where we checked out her booth in Artist Alley on the exhibit hall floor. Explore more of her sweet, fandom-combining art and see her at work on a sketch in the HitFix video below. You...

Nintendo has been hard at work to make their version of "Toys to Life" become more diverse and interactive. They've done just that with their new line of Amiibos coming early 2016.
It all starts with one of Nintendo's best games and their hottest franchise, The Legend of Zelda. On March 4, Zelda fans can get their hands on the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD version for close to $60. Included with the game is a one of a kind Wolf Link Amiibo that allows players to activate a bonus area called, "The Cave of Shadows". This never-before-played cave will act as a new, timed, challenge course.
The other cool detail about this amiibo is that other Legend of Zelda amiibos can be used to provide different perks to Link, including Ganondorf which actually makes Link take double damage. Obviously that would be used as an added challenge.

Sweet Child of Mine: Basinger Buoys Bizarre Psycho Drama
Danish director Anders Morgenthaler (Princess, 2006) returns with The 11th Hour, a strange, psychological drama with the kind of art-house sensibilities that could easily be mistaken for Eurotrash. A German-Danish co-production starring American actress Kim Basinger, there’s more bizarre elements on display than the simplistic yet frustratingly equivocal title can rightly handle.
Slight otherworldly elements and one woman’s insane quest for motherhood offer up an uneasy narrative many will either dismiss outright or react unkindly towards, at least as displayed in this consistently repellant universe. And yet, despite some distractions and flaws, Morgenthaler offers a unique portrait of hysterical motherhood. Though its heroine remains woefully superficial, defined completely by her consuming desire, Basinger is arresting in a film that seems oblivious to all elements audiences hold dear in these unnerving psychological studies.

We meet again, “Daredevil” fans. If you’re joining this recap already in progress, part one is here and part two is here! With “Daredevil” eschewing the traditional format of television by releasing the entire first season at once, recapping becomes a bit tricky. Binge-watch the entire series in one go and I risk spoiling everything and being stoned in the digital streets. But binge-watch too slowly and I become that person who discovered “Breaking Bad” in the last season. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be giving my thoughts on Marvel’s “Daredevil” in all their stream-of-consciousness glory. It’s like “MST3K,” only without the robots and less funny. “Stick” Image Credit: Marvel Entertainment #1. Flee for you life, Asian businessman! #2. Businessman owns a desert eagle he can barely pick up, which means he skipped arm day. #3. Um, excuse me? That should’ve kicked like a son of a bitch.

It may be hard to believe but, we here at BollySpice, do watch other shows created outside of our beloved Bollywood and we recently came across a fabulous show on ABC. For the last 4 weeks, audiences have been treated to the madcap, medieval, magical, musical comedy adventure Galavant. The hysterically funny, fall off your chair show was a big hit! Created by Dan Fogelman, the series featured music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. The incredible eclectic cast included Joshua Sasse as Galavant, Karen David as Princess Isabella Maria Lucia Elizabetta of Valencia, Luke Youngblood as Sid, Vinnie Jones as Gareth, Mallory Jansen as Madalena and Timothy Omundson as King Richard. The show also boasted guest spots by stars like John Stamos, Hugh Bonneville, ”Weird Al” Yankovic, Ricky Gervais, and Rutger Hauer.
To truly give you the feel and flavor of Galavant you can check out videos and watch episodes here.

Dancing With The Stars is rocketing towards its final episodes, and the competition has never been hotter as the show's best couples performed some of their most impressive dances on Monday night's jaw-dropping episode.
The big story going into this week was Alfonso Ribeiro's back injury, which he suffered during rehearsals earlier this week. Everyone tuned in to see how it would affect his performance, but it seemed to only make him stronger and more determined.

Who would want to miss this momentous moment in broadcasting history? All the big guns - Jamelia, Mark Wright and Denise Van Outen - are involved at some point tonight, and we'll be sticking it out for the duration.
We'll be live blogging the whole evening from the Peter Andre kick-off at 7pm to the closing of the reem Towie party at 11pm - just dipping out in time to avoid Joe Swash on Celebrity Dinner Date.

Happy birthday to one of our favourite cult teen classics Mean Girls, which turns 10 today (April 30).
The Tina Fey co-written comedy spawned some of the funniest, most memorable - not to mention impossibly 'grool' - scenes and one-liners, which we're still quoting a decade on.
So to celebrate the movie's milestone, we dig out 22 of our favourite fetch moments below:
1. Damian's face full of processed meat
2. "Your mum..."
Because let's face it, 'your mum' gags are never not funny. Especially when delivered as deadpan as this.
3. "Bye Jason."
You can go shave your back now...
When fellow North Shore pupil - and object of Gretchen Wieners's indiscreet desire - Jason asks Cady is she'd like to be assigned someone to butter her muffin - i.e him, and most definitely a euphemism - Regina publicly shames him with a simple instruction before bidding him farewell.

Hovering around the twenty-one to twenty-four feature film mark with at least a quarter of those films belonging to first time filmmakers, the Quinzaine des Realisateurs (a.k.a Directors’ Fortnight) has in the past couple of years, counted on a healthy supply of French, Spanish and Belgium produced film items, and has been geared towards the offbeat genre items as with last year’s edition curated by Edouard Waintrop and co. To be unveiled on the 22nd, as we attempted with our Critics’ Week predix, Blake Williams, Nicholas Bell and I (Eric Lavallee) are thinking out loud and hedging our bets on what the section might look like or what the programmers might be looking at for 2014. Here is our predictions overview:
Alleluia
Six years after presenting Vinyan at the Venice Film Festival, Fabrice Du Welz finally returns with potentially not one, but a pair of works for the ’14 campaign.

A panel of experts at Cph Pix say that the luxury of public support for Danish film may be inhibiting risktaking and creating a ‘monoculture’ on screen.
If you look in recent lineups of Berlinale Forum or Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, you see an absence of new Danish films. That’s despite the country’s film industry going through something of a golden age of international success from Love Is All You Need to The Hunt to A Royal Affair and Nymphomaniac, with one of the world’s best government-backed support systems for film.
So where are the ‘art’ films? That was the question posed at a panel on Thursday at the Cph Pix festival in Copenhagen.

I’m Here
Director: Anders Morgenthaler
Writer: Anders Morgenthaler
Producers: Marie Gade Denessen, Julie Lind-Holm
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Kim Basinger, Jordan Prentice, Peter Stormare
While his 2006 film, Princess, starring Thure Lindhardt, received a great deal of attention after premiering in the Director’s Fortnight sidebar at Cannes, Anders Morgenthaler’s 2007 sophomore feature, Echo (with Kim Bodnia) never received theatrical release outside of Denmark. After working in television since then, he’s completed his third film feature, dealing with infant prostitution in Eastern Europe. And starring Kim Basinger. Come now, that sounds absolutely delectable. While the original title, Petit was preferable to the generic sounding I’m Here, this sounds like an excellent offbeat showcase for the beautiful Basinger, and we see Peter Stormare is once again part of Morgenthaler’s cast. This could go either way, but it’s definitely a project high on our radar.

Tiff’s Midnight Madness program turned 25 this year, and for two and half decades, the hardworking programers have gathered some of the strangest, most terrifying, wild, intriguing and downright entertaining films from around the world. From dark comedies to Japanese gore-fests and indie horror gems, the Midnight Madness program hasn’t lost its edge as one the leading showcases of genre cinema. In its 25-year history, Midnight Madness has introduced adventurous late-night moviegoers to such cult faves as Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. But what separates Midnight Madness from, say, Montreal’s three and half week long genre festival Fantasia, is that Tiff selects only ten films to make the cut. In other words, these programmers don’t mess around. Last week I decided that I would post reviews of my personal favourite films that screened in past years. And just like the Tiff programmers,...

It must be Oscar season. We are being increasingly subjected to weepy trailers featuring soft-lit corridors, big stars making powerful speeches and tales of apparent importance told in booming, serious and epic tones. The latest in your list of Oscar-bait contenders is Grace Of Monaco, whose first teaser came flying at us from the UK today. Prepare yourselves.
Nicole Kidman stars as Hollywood actress Grace Kelly, the luminous clothes-horse who left Hollywood to marry Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The director is Olivier Dahan, who gave us the Edith Piaf biopic La Vie en Rose, which is at least encouraging. Grace Of Monaco follows the marriage of the actress and the conflict between Rainier and French President Charles de Gaulle in the wake of a tax law dispute in the 1960s. Nothing says riveting filmmaking like ‘tax dispute.’
The trailer gives us very little to go on, except for Nicole Kidman...

The designers were put to the test — and it really wasn’t all fun and games! Read on for all the drama from tonight’s episode, guest-judged by Kelly Osbourne!
All of the designers headed to the famous Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn where they were told they had to break into teams of two and hand out Yoplait frozen yogurt out of a cart! This was the first team challenge, so you could imagine things got a little intense!
Project Runway Recap:
The designers were broken up into teams of two. The teams were: 1. Alexander & Justin 2. Kate & Helen 3. Jeremy & Ken 4. Sue & Sandro 5. Bradon & Karen 6. Dom & Alexandria. The seventh team was Miranda & Timothy, which is very ironic because as the names were being picked out of the hat, Miranda confessed, ‘I don’t want to work with Timothy because there’s some bad blood between us and I just don’t enjoy his attitude.

Regular readers of Twitch should be well familiar with the work of Anders Morgenthaler by this point, the popular Danish cartoonist proving to be a restless and intriguing talent. Already well known in Denmark thanks to his comic strip work, he burst on to the international film scene in 2006 when his ultra violent, satiric animated feature Princess debuted in Cannes. That would be followed by live action effort Echo, children's animation The Apple And The Worm, animated television hit for crude adults who think they're still children The Pandas, and an appearance in anthology project The ABCs Of Death. And now Morgenthaler is back to live action with ultra dark live action feature Petit now under way in Hamburg.Petit tells the story of Maria,...

Yeterday Nintendo hosted another Direct video presentation in which they announced a slew of new games coming to the 3Ds, including another Zelda game set in the Link to the Past universe, and another Yoshi's Island. The Wii U also gets some love in an official release date for Pikmin 3 and the much anticipated announcement that Earthbound is coming to the Virtual Console. Come inside for all the details and information.
Perhaps one of the biggest announcements made yesterday was that a new Zelda game is coming to the 3Ds, which is set in the world of one of the most beloved titles in that entire franchise, A Link to the Past. In fact, the Japanese working title is A Link to the Past 2. While it will retain the top down view, the 3D aspect will play heavily into the gameplay.

Talk about Scottish independence. As was revealed earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Scotland, where Prince William offered a kiss to a 4-year-old girl - who then turned down his offer. The girl was Shona Ritchie, 4, and as her mother, Karen Ritchie, 30, recounted the very special day to People, it began with an early start for the tot. "Shona woke up early at 6 a.m., because she saw in the newspaper that Kate and William were going to be in Glasgow," said Karen, a customer-service worker for the utility company Scottish Power. "I had promised her...

A funny thing happened toward the end of Smash Season 1: Everything changed. Well, not everything. But Theresa Rebeck, the Broadway baby who’d birthed the NBC drama, was not invited back for an encore. Ultimately, Josh Safran — no stranger to spinning New York City-based tales, as a Gossip Girl showrunner – was handed the reins for Season 2, which with its two-hour premiere (airing tonight at 9/8c) promptly updates us on Bombshell team members Karen, Ivy (?), Derek, Tom, Julia and Eileen, while also weaving in fresh faces such as Jeremy Jordan (Newsies) and Andy Mientus (Carrie: The Musical), as the aspiring...

Yes, it's that time again on Sunday night, which can only mean one thing… Welcome to another Dancing on Ice live blog!
This week, there's no kooky 'theme' to the show. It's all about 'The Leveller' - a task which means that the stars will have to skate solo for 30 seconds.
And with Keith Chegwin's rib injury putting his performance in doubt and Gareth Thomas's foot causing him jip, there's worry aplenty in the Doi camp tonight. Quite literally anything could happen. Jason Gardiner might even liken someone's skating to having locked-in syndrome. Again.
So stick with Digital Spy as we see which couples pull it out of the bag, who face-palms the floor and what awful outfits are paraded about. It's going to be great…
20:57Anyway, thanks for joining Digital Spy this evening. Hope you - like I - are just pleased that some goodies (Beth,...

The ABCs of Death is now available on a variety of VOD services and will receive a limited theatrical release on March 8th. If you’re looking to learn more before checking it out, we have a new featurette with a number of the directors involved talking about the movie and their segment.
“Twenty-six directors. Twenty-six ways to die. The ABC’s Of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational books, the motion picture is comprised of twenty-six individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.”

For our feature, we conducted a Q&A with Danish artist and director Anders Morgenthaler, who created K is for Klutz:

Todd Brown of Twitchfilm has followed my work since Princess and we have been meeting up regularly for a couple years. He asked me if I wanted in on the ABC project and saying yes was the only sane answer.
