Not DID but more of a Jekyll and Hyde nature. Of course, a murdered. He’s actually referred to as Brooks’ id. So definitely Jekyll and Hyde in nature. If the trilogy went through it would have been bland and predictable, rather than an exploration of the human condition and a reflection of masculinity in conservative society. Even if it indulged in male fantasy of murder and power it would have been a solid reflection.

Unfortunately the villain in this film is indicated by a doctor to have DID (referring to her as having another persona). I don’t like that. Just give it a different diagnosis please. While this doctor doesn’t say it, the parallels between reality and the tv series in the show are obvious. In the TV series they specifically say Dissociative Identity Disorder and link it with crimes. UGH.
It’s even more confusing because the protagonist plays a character who is an actress that has DID, and the villain of the actual movie is the bad guy who we link parallels with.
If it didn’t have the diagnosis and it was just the multiple forms of one’s self battling to be free or true as a result of repression, then I’m fine with that. Which episode 3 of paranoia agent might do except for the damn doctor making it seem like a real condition. Sigh.
I’m fine with the villain having an imposter syndrome thing too or where she’s pretending to be another person. But that is unfortunately confused with DID, which she is indirectly diagnosed with because of the parallels of the inaccurate representation in the film’s tv show and the finale.
