Best Superhero Movies

What makes a Superhero film good? Same thing that makes any movie good. Than you have to add in good special effects. Than you have to have faithfulness to its source material, or originality of concept. Also you have to have a control on the CGI, too much and you have a cartoon. Here is a list in order of what I think are the best.

1. The Dark Knight (2008)

PG-13 | 152 min | Action, Crime, Drama

84 Metascore

When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine

Votes: 2,871,699 | Gross: $534.86M

Perfect Batman movie with a Perfect Joker. Matt Damon as Harvey Dent would have been a better choice.

2. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

PG-13 | 132 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

75 Metascore

The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy

Votes: 745,364 | Gross: $233.92M

Pulls off one of the more complex story lines of any superhero film perfectly. Best thing about it, it was able to erase X-men 3. No explanation of how Professor X exploded and un-exploded.

3. Iron Man (2008)

PG-13 | 126 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

79 Metascore

After being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.

Director: Jon Favreau | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges

Votes: 1,125,193 | Gross: $318.41M

Not enough screen time of Iron man himself in battle; this got worse in sequels. Terrance Howard got better in sequels because he was replaced.

4. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

PG-13 | 149 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

68 Metascore

The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans

Votes: 1,203,796 | Gross: $678.82M

Improved on the source material which is saying something. Haunting, moving, action packed, and simply good. Structure had one minor flaw other than that would have been second under Dark Knight It bothers me slightly that it was so clear of a better way that no one at Disney spotted it.

5. The Avengers (2012)

PG-13 | 143 min | Action, Sci-Fi

69 Metascore

Earth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.

Director: Joss Whedon | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner

Votes: 1,459,676 | Gross: $623.28M

This movie brings all the different characters together and is able to juggle them all. A Hawkeye movie before this one. Other than his small appearance in Thor, would have been use full. They tried to shoe horn his back story into the second Avengers, unsuccessfully.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

PG-13 | 121 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

76 Metascore

A group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe.

Director: James Gunn | Stars: Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana

Votes: 1,273,700 | Gross: $333.18M

A more or less obscure part of the Marvel Universe, that is surprisingly entertaining and funny. Strength of the movie is the cast and their interaction lifts it above typical super hero into a comedic hybrid.

7. Logan (2017)

R | 137 min | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi

77 Metascore

In a future where mutants are nearly extinct, an elderly and weary Logan leads a quiet life. But when Laura, a mutant child pursued by scientists, comes to him for help, he must get her to safety.

Director: James Mangold | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook

Votes: 831,750 | Gross: $226.28M

Finally got a solo Wolverine movie right. Its also better than its source material. The source comic was crude this movie is haunting and heart felt.

8. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

PG-13 | 136 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

After Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.

Director: Marc Webb | Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Irrfan Khan

Votes: 702,546 | Gross: $262.03M

This film does with Spider-Man what Ultimate Spider-Man comic series did with Spider-Man. Took the weight of a long back story off the hero into a reboot. Gwen Stacy is perfect.

9. X: First Class (2011)

PG-13 | 131 min | Action, Sci-Fi

65 Metascore

In the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.

Director: Matthew Vaughn | Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Bacon

Votes: 723,886 | Gross: $146.41M

Major world events if mutants were involved. A Watchmen for the masses without the cynicaliness and sadness Poor choices in some of the mutants choosen obscure reasoning to bring in Scotts younger brother as his older and having to work around the introduction of Iceman and Angel already are minor qualms.

10. Wonder Woman (2017)

PG-13 | 141 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

76 Metascore

When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, Diana, an Amazonian warrior in training, leaves home to fight a war, discovering her full powers and true destiny.

Director: Patty Jenkins | Stars: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis

Votes: 699,811 | Gross: $412.56M

Its amazing that they could pull off making a good Wonder Woman and struggle with Superman V. Batman. Gal can act. Script is great.

11. X2 (2003)

PG-13 | 134 min | Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller

68 Metascore

When anti-mutant Colonel William Stryker kidnaps Professor X and attacks his school, the X-Men must ally with their archenemy Magneto to stop him.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen

Votes: 576,317 | Gross: $214.95M

Tightly story told with tight action sequences. Pacing of the all over story is well done but the villian is not given enough time. Villian has a truly epic quality that is barly touched on.

12. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

PG-13 | 147 min | Action, Sci-Fi

75 Metascore

Political involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.

Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo | Stars: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan

Votes: 850,303 | Gross: $408.08M

Some of the best fight scenes of any of the Marvel Universe films. Great story and script, it is able to juggle a large cast very well. Introducing both the Black Panther and Spiderman as well as keeping all the balls in the air.

13. Watchmen (2009)

R | 162 min | Action, Drama, Mystery

56 Metascore

In a version of 1985 where superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends active vigilante Rorschach on the trail of a conspiracy that will change the course of history.

Director: Zack Snyder | Stars: Jackie Earle Haley, Patrick Wilson, Carla Gugino, Malin Akerman

Votes: 582,669 | Gross: $107.51M

Adult take on Superheros sometimes isn't treated with adult depth in this film. The few times its is this film is great. The ending is acutally makes more sense than the comic version.

14. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

PG-13 | 181 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

78 Metascore

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos' actions and restore balance to the universe.

Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth

Votes: 1,266,413 | Gross: $858.37M

This is overlong. Seems to be a movie written around the contracts ending of some the MCU actors. Slow pacing hurts the story arc. A difficult story to tell but left a few plot holes.

15. Batman Begins (2005)

PG-13 | 140 min | Action, Crime, Drama

70 Metascore

After witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, Liam Neeson

Votes: 1,578,981 | Gross: $206.85M

A realistic take on the superhero sets a tone for the series of films. Weak Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul performances are followed by a not weak Joker performance in the sequel.

16. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

74 Metascore

Imprisoned on the planet Sakaar, Thor must race against time to return to Asgard and stop Ragnarök, the destruction of his world, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela.

Director: Taika Waititi | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Mark Ruffalo

Votes: 816,348 | Gross: $315.06M

Attempt to be to funny story should not be taken serious. Merging Planet Hulk into the mix made th movie from being a pure Thor movie.

17. Black Panther (2018)

PG-13 | 134 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

88 Metascore

T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a challenger from his country's past.

The Dr. Octopus battle was simply as good as it got when the film came out.

20. Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)

PG-13 | 129 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

69 Metascore

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

Director: Jon Watts | Stars: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei

Votes: 557,088 | Gross: $390.53M

Mysterio and MJ well done. Movie could have used a little editing. Huge pacing issue of repeating plot points.

21. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

Director: Scott Derrickson | Stars: Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong

Votes: 805,276 | Gross: $232.64M

Very well done didn't struggle with its source material. Introduced a new layer into the Marvel Cinematic Universe without a problem. There was multiple ways to pull of the Sorcerer Supreme. They took the Matrix route. I am sure it was the easiest.

26. Batman (1989)

PG-13 | 126 min | Action, Adventure

69 Metascore

The Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker.

Director: Tim Burton | Stars: Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl

Votes: 404,363 | Gross: $251.19M

Good at the time it came out. Bad choice to insert a Prince song as to keep it dated forever. Its tricky to feature pop songs in films it makes them at times not age well. You lock the film into that time period forever.

27. Superman II (1980)

PG | 127 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

83 Metascore

Superman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth.

Director: Richard Lester | Stars: Gene Hackman, Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Ned Beatty

Votes: 114,656 | Gross: $108.19M

Not without its faults, the big plastic Superman symbol, the endless product placement and the kiss of forget everything. It is still entertaining and the Donner cut is much better.

28. Thor (2011)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Fantasy

57 Metascore

The powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

Director: Kenneth Branagh | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston

Votes: 900,424 | Gross: $181.03M

The coffee house scene and the emergency room scene are both great. Under the stars with Jane and getting drunk are good. Overall it was a tricky hero to pull off and it is done well. Asgard is not fully fleshed out enough.

29. Aquaman (2018)

PG-13 | 143 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

55 Metascore

Arthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land.

Director: James Wan | Stars: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson

Votes: 520,905 | Gross: $335.06M

Odd in parts better than you would think overall. Could have been better. Mantis is good.

30. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

PG-13 | 141 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

66 Metascore

When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.

Director: Joss Whedon | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth

Votes: 922,055 | Gross: $459.01M

Could of and should been better. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are not written in well. Ham handed changed back story. Olsen is not good enough of an actress to pull the character off. Wanda is not the strongest defined Avenger. Her character is more defined by her relationships. They needed a better actress. Strange pacing of the movie makes it lag for periods and go too fast for bits.

31. The Crow (1994)

R | 102 min | Action, Crime, Drama

71 Metascore

A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée's murder.

Director: Alex Proyas | Stars: Brandon Lee, Michael Wincott, Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson

Votes: 203,251 | Gross: $50.69M

Low budget take on a pulpy work of art by James O'Barr. Great director and great performance by its star. This film is a real life tragedy of the loss of Lee has scared this movie. As well as its silly tacked on "pass his pain on" nonsense. Should have kept the ending closer to the original material. There are scenes that are frame by frame from the source. Why did it change the ending?

32. Spider-Man (2002)

PG-13 | 121 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

73 Metascore

After being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, a shy teenager gains spider-like abilities that he uses to fight injustice as a masked superhero and face a vengeful enemy.

Director: Sam Raimi | Stars: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Willem Dafoe, James Franco

Votes: 880,092 | Gross: $403.71M

There is some bad acting here and some bad editing. There is also a sense of joy and a sense of sadness. The two emotions are what make Spider-Man movies great. He is a child carrying grief and guilt. That is trying to make right a tragic mistake.

33. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

PG-13 | 133 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

73 Metascore

Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.

Director: Jon Watts | Stars: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei

Votes: 719,706 | Gross: $334.20M

This the 3rd reboot of the franchise is a bit overrated in my humble opinion. Keaton does a good job as the Vulture. It is too tightly wrapped up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to breath on its own. Almost as if they knew the last two were independent of it and they tried to force it in every place they could.

34. Hellboy (2004)

PG-13 | 122 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

72 Metascore

A demon raised from infancy after being conjured by and rescued from the Nazis, grows up to become a defender against the forces of darkness.

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Ron Perlman, Doug Jones, Selma Blair, John Hurt

Votes: 350,148 | Gross: $59.62M

Sequel much better but has its moments. Sometimes it seems to think the audience knows things it doesn't. At least I didn't then brings in on the subject, really needed another draft on the screen play.

35. Ant-Man (2015)

PG-13 | 117 min | Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi

64 Metascore

Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world.

Director: Peyton Reed | Stars: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly

Votes: 722,299 | Gross: $180.20M

Douglas's performance seems a bit phoned in. Rudd does a good job. The subject was not one of Marvel's A Team heroes but its a better movie than any of the Hulk films.

36. Dredd (2012)

R | 95 min | Action, Crime, Sci-Fi

60 Metascore

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

Director: Pete Travis | Stars: Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, Rachel Wood

Votes: 294,476 | Gross: $13.41M

As close to the comic as could have been done. Really good action suffers slightly from budget and limited scope of the film.

37. Captain Marvel (2019)

PG-13 | 123 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

64 Metascore

Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Directors: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck | Stars: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law

Votes: 610,936 | Gross: $426.83M

Script is horrible, star seems bipolar and confused. Parts without dialog are the good parts.

38. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

PG-13 | 136 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

67 Metascore

The Guardians struggle to keep together as a team while dealing with their personal family issues, notably Star-Lord's encounter with his father, the ambitious celestial being Ego.

Director: James Gunn | Stars: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel

Votes: 759,851 | Gross: $389.81M

Sequel lets its characters down with poor script and pacing. Characters are still stand out. Humor goes blue in spots for cheap laughs. Kurt Russell is given a script that repeats his lines so frequently it sounds like one of the songs. Aside from its problems the characters from the first are still strong.

39. Superman (1978)

PG | 143 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

82 Metascore

An alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero.

Director: Richard Donner | Stars: Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, Marlon Brando

Votes: 187,577 | Gross: $134.22M

Pompous epic and grand a huge production that even had Marlon Brando in it. Funny and action packed at times and other times just doesn't work. Ending was just dumb.

40. X-Men (2000)

PG-13 | 104 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

64 Metascore

In a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen

Votes: 646,760 | Gross: $157.30M

Pretty much just a setup for the much better sequel. Perfect casting offset a rather weak story. Great scenes and frequently right after awkwardly written ones.

41. Deadpool (2016)

R | 108 min | Action, Comedy

65 Metascore

A wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.

Director: Tim Miller | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein

Votes: 1,126,035 | Gross: $363.07M

Like a little kid who can get away with swearing, Marvel went over the top a bit in their first 'R' rated film. The CGI rendering of Colossus was another problem.

42. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

54 Metascore

When the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.

Director: Alan Taylor | Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård

Votes: 725,232 | Gross: $206.36M

Takes the heart out of the first one and replaces it with much more action and a larger story.

43. Blade (1998)

R | 120 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi

47 Metascore

A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.

Director: Stephen Norrington | Stars: Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright

Votes: 299,059 | Gross: $70.09M

Doesn't know what it wants to be winds up being a bit of B-movie. The much superior sequel shows what it could have been. There is an alternative ending that needs to be seen to be believed. They really had no idea what they were doing when they made this movie.

44. Deadpool 2 (2018)

R | 119 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

66 Metascore

Foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) assembles a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with abilities from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg Cable.

Director: David Leitch | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison

Votes: 645,988 | Gross: $324.59M

Better than the first one; Colussus and suporting case shine.

45. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

PG-13 | 164 min | Action, Drama, Thriller

78 Metascore

Eight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman

Votes: 1,827,988 | Gross: $448.14M

Poor choice in accents hurt this movie, ruined the villain. Poorly written script takes short cuts and breaks from logic to tell its tale. Good scenes are followed by bad scenes on a alternating basis during the whole movie. Robin and Cat Woman are not thought out and not needed. This mess ends in a unbelievable happy ending.

46. Suicide Squad (2016)

PG-13 | 123 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

40 Metascore

A secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.

Director: David Ayer | Stars: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis

Votes: 722,448 | Gross: $325.10M

Some of the characters are developed some aren't; really really bad villain. There should have been a Harley Quinn movie, a Deadshot movie, and a el Diablo movie. The script could not pull all the back stories together.

47. Venom (2018)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

35 Metascore

A failed reporter is bonded to an alien entity, one of many symbiotes who have invaded Earth. But the being takes a liking to Earth and decides to protect it.

Director: Ruben Fleischer | Stars: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze

Votes: 538,520 | Gross: $213.52M

Lame pacing and bad script, has a first draft feel to it with Hardy being the the best part of it. CGI is good villian is weak.

48. Iron Man 2 (2010)

PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Sci-Fi

57 Metascore

With the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.

Director: Jon Favreau | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle

Votes: 868,761 | Gross: $312.43M

There was no reason to create a villain. Stark has plenty from the comics to pick from. The new villain just doesn't have the feel of computer genius. Maybe it was Mickey, who seemed to be cast because of him being on the comeback trail after the Wrestler. Hammer is done well but the focus is on a bad villain,

49. Bloodshot (2020)

While Batman deals with a deformed man calling himself the Penguin wreaking havoc across Gotham with the help of a cruel businessman, a female employee of the latter becomes the Catwoman with her own vendetta.

Director: Tim Burton | Stars: Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken

Votes: 327,560 | Gross: $162.83M

Christopher Walken and Danny DeVito are not given a strong enough script to become a strong enough villain. It becomes a three way battle for the film to focus on as the Catwoman steals screen time. Batman becomes a supporting character in a movie that has some nice scenes but no substance.

51. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

61 Metascore

Bruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.

Director: Louis Leterrier | Stars: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt

Votes: 523,643 | Gross: $134.52M

Norton and Tyler had no chemistry. There is something in Norton's performance that never lets you care about him. Tyler simply does not belong in this movie. All this boils down to boring video game like CGI battle at the end. There is nothing worse than watching someone else play a video game.

52. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

PG-13 | 151 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

44 Metascore

Director: Zack Snyder | Stars: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg

Votes: 752,581 | Gross: $330.36M

Making Doomsday explosive was not a good idea. Had a feeling it was going to boil down to a CGI battle at the end like Man of Steel. Batman is done rather well by Affleck and not the problem with this movie at all.

53. Iron Man Three (2013)

PG-13 | 130 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

62 Metascore

When Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.

Director: Shane Black | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle

Votes: 899,451 | Gross: $409.01M

Ruins a great Iron Man villain and the best Iron Man story line all at the same time. Tony Stark takes over the screen giving Iron Man very limited screen time. This equals a slow moving story. Taking him out of his element simply as a plot device.

54. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

PG-13 | 142 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

53 Metascore

When New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect as well as his loved ones.

Director: Marc Webb | Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti

Votes: 538,148 | Gross: $202.85M

Electro is poorly done and so is the Green Goblin. The best parts of Amazing Spider Man. Peter and Gwen are given limited screen time. Short setup for friendship with Harry rushed into going bad. Completely un-threatening take on the Green Goblin more of a whining kid. Short, clipped, and cliched character for Electro. Really over the top CGI to wrap Electro into a bad boring battle with Spider man.

55. The Punisher (2004)

R | 124 min | Action, Crime, Drama

33 Metascore

An undercover FBI agent becomes a vigilante and sets out to unleash his wrath upon the corrupt businessman who slaughtered his entire family at a reunion.

Director: Jonathan Hensleigh | Stars: Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Samantha Mathis, Laura Harring

Votes: 170,608 | Gross: $33.81M

John Travolta can play a good villain. Sometimes when he is a villain he makes a choice to be a certain over the top villain. It is sort of one his fall back on villain impression number 3. It maybe he simply doesn't understand the character so he acts the same way. He ruins this movie with his performance. There is also a really bad boring ending.

56. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

PG-13 | 144 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

52 Metascore

In the 1980s the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive through bringing destruction to the world.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult

Votes: 461,239 | Gross: $155.44M

This movie was big chance on a huge story that really wasn't paced or thought out enough. Some good scenes and pandering to comic book fans rather than trying to produce the same quality of the last two. Horrible story line that needed space and should have been told over several movies if was attempted. Instead it is condensed and clipped into slow parts that were needed and not much else.

Director: Tim Story | Stars: Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis

Votes: 277,441 | Gross: $131.92M

The best of the two Alba Fantastic Four movies. Strange slammed together crunch of second act and no need to bring Doom back but they do. Huge plot chunks seem to be missing, and a they don't seem to care about the source material attitude. The same feel as the first one but with a really cool Silver Surfer.

59. Justice League (2017)

PG-13 | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Director: Zack Snyder | Stars: Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller

Votes: 478,732 | Gross: $229.02M

Get rid of Zack Snyder save the world. Too many superhero movies turn into CGI battles. The bad ones cross the line into being Video games being streamed by teenagers. Nothing in this movie brings the viewer into it the action where they care. Poor choice of villian also.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, James Marsden

Votes: 291,404 | Gross: $200.08M

Should have been Superman 3, this film could have used Superman 2's cast. Spacey phones in his performance from a cell phone while driving. The rest of the cast doesn't seem to want to be there either or at least know what they are supposed to be doing. Marsden and Langella being the only two who are taking the movie seriously.

Votes: 374,337 | Gross: $75.98M

This cast tries, Keanu tries, the director tries, the movie fails because of a weak script. The ending is very very weak. This is one of those movies that should have ad sequel that would have been better than the first.

Votes: 229,113 | Gross: $102.54M

Poor directory and a studio re-edited movie. That is the problem with this one. The cast is fine and does a good job. The directors cut makes the ending make sense. Crazy they would have released a movie that didn't make sense. Bullseye does what he does making a good villian

Director: Gavin Hood | Stars: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Danny Huston

Votes: 530,730 | Gross: $179.88M

Lets throw as many characters as possible into the movie until we get a script. The last half from Gambit on is terrible. Keep the CGI cheap and make a horrible movie. Hugh Jackman is best part.

67. Green Lantern (2011)

PG-13 | 114 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

Director: Martin Campbell | Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong

Votes: 296,171 | Gross: $116.60M

A disgusting villain, Hector Hammond, in what should have been a movie with a light heart. A bunch of interesting parts of Green Lantern are introduced and never fallowed properly past a scene or two. The CGI is not good enough for what the movie needed to support it.

An art film about fatherly abuse that decided to become a movie about the Hulk somewhere in its development. CGI Hulk in desert vs army was good went on way to long

Director: Mark Steven Johnson | Stars: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Sam Elliott, Matt Long

Votes: 252,322 | Gross: $115.80M

Nicholas Cage is Nicholas Cage he is not Johnny Blaze. The choices he made to flesh out the character. The listening to the Carpenters etc. All made Johnny Blaze more Cage like. Terrible dialog and a villain that was not fully thought out. It seems to not take itself at all seriously but it wants your time and money to watch it.

You have to give it Alec Baldwin for attempting to pull this one off. It was going to be a blockbuster. The film fails to engage the viewer and the last half is a snooze. Putting you to sleep as the action is supposed to pick up.

Votes: 164,705 | Gross: $98.78M

Seth Rogen cannot be funny in a PG-13 movie. Seth is barely funny in a R movie. There is this strange stillness in certain scenes in this movie like they left the camera running while the crew enjoyed the Pineapple express.

Votes: 266,633 | Gross: $184.03M

Okay let Joel Schumacher take over the Batman series. He will use lots and lots of neon colors. Let everyone over act it will be great just like an updated Batman television series, Script is not a script just a series of lines that are all overacted.

So you have a better sequel than the first movie. Your follow up? You stick a hip comedian into the movie to over shadow the whole thing. You hire get this now Robert Vaughn of all people as the villain. Even in 1983 it was obvious that his prime was Napoleon Solo. Its not a Superman film its more of a Pryor film.
